Adrien's arms were growing tired. He was in a middle of a fencing match, and before that, he and Ladybug had faced a difficult akuma. Adrien knew winning wasn't everything, but he hated the scowl on his father's face.
"We love you, Adrien!" A voice called. "Go, Adrien!" two voices chimed together.
Realization dawned on the young fencer. That was Marinette cheering him on, and her parents, who he adored. He felt a wave of sudden emotions as Marinette's parents were busy and they had taken time to come see the match.
With renewed energy, Adrien battled back his opponent, winning the match.
"Mama Cheng! Papa Dupain! Marinette!" Adrien called, jogging over after he'd changed. "Good job, My boy!" Tom boomed, swooping Adrien into a hug. Good job? Adrien felt his throat grow tight with happiness. "Tom, I know you love Adrien, but don't squash him."
Adrien laughed as he was set down, and Mama Cheng gave him a kiss on the cheek. "You looked a little tired out their honey, but then you seemed to catch a second wind?" "I heard you cheering. Your so special to me."
"And speaking of special," Marinette ran up and gave her boyfriend a kiss and took him by the hand. "Mama and Papa whipped up a little surprise for you!"
"Okay, lead him through, honey!" Mama Cheng called. Adrien grinned from ear-to-ear as he led through the doorway, wearing a blindfold.
"Surprise!" The Dupain-Cheng's shouted as Adrien removed his blindfold.
There, on the table was a cake shaped like a fencing sword. Adrien's mouth wobbled, and Sabine rushed forward. "Honey?"
"Sorry, I don't know how to respond," he whispered, holding one of her hands tight, while wiping his eyes with the other. "Then don't," Marinette said. "And enjoy some delicious cake."
Adrien did so, and though the cake was delicious, what Adrien loved most was spending time with his family.
