Czemano: In Your Dreams

Clara grinned as she snapped the picture. She had wanted to go to Italy for a long time, and now she was finally there. In Rome, of all places. And while much of it is touristy, it was just one of the things that made this place perfect.

It would have been better if her brother wasn't suffering from a combination of jetlag and travel sickness. She had no idea how long it would take before he recovered. Rome was beautiful, but she didn't feel too comfortable alone in a foreign city.

As she continued to explore, she stepped into a side street. She sighed at the relative quiet, and she continued to go down the street, curious to see where she would end up. She'd heard from a friend that in some of the old European cities, one could often find more amazing sights simply by following the side streets. And it would be quieter than the rest of the city.

She stepped into a plaza, with a beautiful fountain in the centre. Mosaic tiles circled the fountain, and there was a tile missing. She frowned as she stared at the fountain. She knew this place. She'd seen it before, complete with the missing tile. It looked like…

She gasped, before she looked around. She knew this place very well. It was a place she'd seen in her dreams many times. In fact, she had this very dream the previous night, as well as on the flight to Italy. She pinched herself, just to make sure that she was actually there. She could feel the pinch, and she didn't wake up. That must have meant that it was real.

But more than just the place, she always saw the same person there. She would admit that she had developed a crush on him after a few hundred dreams where they would meet in this place. If this location was real, then perhaps…?

She stopped when she saw someone in the shadow of a building, and she gasped as his features came into view. Hazel eyes and brown hair with a stray curl pointing to the right. He stepped forward a few paces and stopped, his mouth falling open.

"Is… is this really…?"

Clara smiled. His voice sounded exactly the same as in her dreams.

"Ciao, Lovino," Clara said.

Lovino shook himself, before he smiled. She liked his smile, especially since it had taken him a long time to feel comfortable enough to show it to her.

He stepped closer and stopped right in front of her. He reached out to stroke her cheek, and she leaned into the warm touch of his hand.

"It's really you," he whispered. "Clara… How is this…?"

"I don't know," she said. "But I'm not complaining. So… how did you know I would be here?"

Lovino blushed, and Clara's smile widened.

"I… I come here every day, when I can," Lovino explained. "I always… hoped that I would see you."

Clara laughed, before she hugged Lovino.

"I can't believe this is real," she said. "I just… I thought this place always looked vaguely Italian, so I thought 'why not go to Italy?' I… I didn't think that I would see this place. Or you. But I'm really glad."

Clara didn't know how it happened, but she was happy that it did. She never thought that she would actually meet Lovino, who she had fallen in love with some time ago. And now… It might actually be possible to pursue this relationship.

The prompt is: 'A woman is on vacation in a foreign city. She is exploring when she suddenly realises she's in a place she's been many times before – in her dreams. She looks around frantically and finally sees him. The man who is always there, in the dream. He smiles and approaches, asking if it's really her.'
