Chapter 1: Moving Forward(Shiro's POV)
"How's the clone doing?" he asks Marinette, who is watching over the clone.
"He should be fine, I think." She then sighs, "It's so weird, all this time, we've been hanging around a clone. He was our friend. He was you to us…."
"And that's not your fault. You didn't know and I had no way of contacting you."
"I know, but…. If we knew…." "Marinette… What's really troubling you? Is it about what you said before I connected with Black?"
"A little. It's just, I was chosen to be Ladybug, but I got whooshed over here, became the Red Paladin and filled in as leader becoming the Black Paladin. But you're back and I don't know what's become of my partner or what's become of Hawkmoth….."
"Hey, you've done fine."
"Shiro's right Marinette. Things might not have turned out as we expected but it's been a great experience. And Ladybug has helped Voltron out." Tikki replies.
Marinette smiles, "You're right Tikki, Shiro. I just hope Earth is okay. I can't wait to see my family again. To feel the fresh scents of my parents' bakery."
Shiro chuckles, "I know how you feel. I can't wait to see Adam…"
His eyes widened in realization, "Oh god, Adam…"
"Did this Adam and you have a falling out?"
"Something like that. He didn't want me to go on the Kerobos mission afraid that I might not make it back. It is a harrowing trip, one of the longest for Earth's current technology anyway. But I was stubborn and wanted to go and Adam didn't like that because he thought that since I've broken every record there is to break, what's the point?"
"Maybe he just wanted to settle down with you." Marinette proposes.
"Perhaps, but I didn't leave Earth on the best terms with him."
"Well when we get back you can make it up to this Adam guy."
"I hope so."
Marinette smiles and he smiles back. God he hadn't thought about Adam in a long time. With a pang in his heart he hopes that Keith and Adam are okay and that he can reunite with them. It would be painful not to have closure with those two. He knows Adam cared for him, but exploring space was his passion. Being a pilot is his passion.
"Sorry to interrupt, but Pidge has some news," Allura says, interrupting any more conversation to be had.
"Well Pidge what is it?" Marinette asks eagerly.
"I'm afraid it's mostly bad news. I haven't found a way to connect to the Voltron Coalition and I haven't found any signals from them either. There might be some distortions I'm not picking up but…. Or it might be because we're not high enough in the atmosphere…"
Lotor adds, "Yes I've been having trouble reaching out to the Empire as well.."
"Well Lions aren't going anywhere without fully charged power cores." Hunk comments.
"The battle with Zethrid severely depleted them. If we had the Castle of Lions we would be able to charge them, but…"
"Is there another way to recharge them?" Pidge asks quietly.
"They could be recharged naturally given time and ambient energy but that might take phoebs."
"Is there anything else we can do?" Marinette asks.
"Well," Coran responds, "We are on the Dalterian Belt, home to the element faunatonium."
"And how is that going to help us?" Lance asks skeptically.
"Well the process involves gluon field fluctuations…."
"You know what? Never mind. Magic or something? Sure."
"That's not far off. We're going to use the faunatonium to expand the energy particles within the cores. I'm not sure how long it will last, but it's the only solution I can think of. And we're going to need a Yalmor."
"Yalmors?" asks Hunk, surprised, "There are Yalmors on this planet?"
"How do you think we find the stuff? Yalmors have a nose for it."
"Well at least we have a plan. I'll go with you to find this faunatonium…."
"I'll stay with Shi…. the clone." Allura says.
"Then the rest are with us I guess."
"I'll also stay, I might be able to help even if I've exhausted all my knowledge from Oriande." Lotor replies.
"And I'll stay in case something attacks us," Krolia adds.
Shiro nods, "Then we'll get started."
Allura's POV
She can't believe it, the Shiro who she's fallen in love with and the Shiro who loves her back is merely a clone. Not even Shiro at all. But he is real, his feelings real, and her feelings as well. With all that's been going on she hasn't been able to process the whole clone thing.
"Hey he'll pull through." Lotor comments, trying to reassure her.
"I know."
"But…."
"I just don't know how to feel about the whole clone thing. He was Shiro to us for many months and now…"
"And now that perspective has been broken."
"Yeah," She touches the healing pod.
Marinette's POV
"What if we're this quizacking small forever?" Romelle asks, annoyed.
"It's pronounced 'quiznaking' and yes thank you Romelle. What if?" Hunk states exasperated, while pulling off his boot water coming out of it.
"We'll think of a way, we always do. Pidge, do you have any ideas?" Shiro asks in a calm manor.
"I think I might. Coran, you said that the faunatonium works on gluon field fluctuations, right?"
"Correct. It expands atomic distance."
"Maybe we could use it to make ourselves big again."
"You might be onto something Number five." Coran murmurs.
"But how are we going to find the faunatonium again? It's not like we have a yalmor on standby or anything," Marinette comments. "I could try my luck charm, and see if that works."
"Or we could just lure a yalmor to us."
"Lure a yalmor? To us? Like this?" Romelle asks, skeptical of the plan.
"Romelle has a point, Coran. I could use my…."
Coran waves her suggestion off, "There'll be no need for that. It will be incredibly dangerous and Hunk is our only hope."
"How is Hunk our only hope?" she asks. She doesn't like what Coran might be implying.
"He'll be bait."
"Bait? I could just use my lucky charm and…"
"No, we need something that is live and can create sounds. Hunk is the biggest meal out of all of us for a predator and he screams the loudest. It's a sure plan."
"No, no, nononono, no. I am not being bait." Hunk protests.
A Few Moments Later:
"I can't believe we're actually doing this," Romelle says.
"You can't believe it, I am literal bait! I can't believe that I got roped into this!"
"It's like Coran said, you're the biggest meal out of all of us and you scream the loudest." Shiro says.
"I don't care that I…!"
Suddenly a loud crashing noise is heard and Marinette smiles. Looks like it worked. Coran is right, a live bait did attract the yalmor. She hears Hunk start screaming and Pidge shouts, "Now!" They all pull the rope and jump off the tree.
The landing on the yalmor is surprisingly soft. That worked better than expected. Hunk falls onto the yalmor shortly thereafter. "Nice work Hunk,"
Hunk mutters something incoherent and suddenly the yalmor shifts. And then it starts to run. She grabs onto its fur for dear life. God this is so much trouble just to return to our original forms. But it has to be done.
"This is worse than being bait!" Hunk screams.
Romelle agrees with him, "Then at least you were the only one in danger!"
"Hey!"
Suddenly the yalmor stops and Marinette breathes in relief. She wasn't sure how much longer she could hold on for. Her arm muscles sting from the pressure that was exerted on them.
The yalmor then makes a sound. Suddenly more yalmors appear and Pidge asks, "What's going on?"
"More yalmors!" Coran replies cheerfully, "If they link at the ears then we're on top of a faunatonium wizplute!"
They link at the ears and blow bubbles from their elongated snouts.
"Jackpot!" Coran cheers. "Pay attention Paladins, this is how you work together!"
"Alright let's go." Pidge says determined.
Marinette nods. Ready to go, however Romelle and Hunk not so much, "Wait, what?" They both gasp.
Pidge responds, "Look if we want to be our regular size again we have to go in there."
Marinette follows them and she slides down the yalmor's trunk with Coran and Pidge in the lead. Soon enough they leap into the air and start falling. Bubbles surround them and eventually she gets trapped in one. Floating up into the sky.
A magical glow blinds her and then her bubble pops and she lands on top of Hunk, and others fall on her. Making it a Paladin dogpile. She groans from the weight, but she's experienced worst.
They also scared off the yalmors.
"Quiznak," grunts Romelle.
"My back," Hunk groans.
Allura's POV
"Look at that his vitals are stabilizing," Lotor comments.
Allura smiles as the blue shield on the pod glimmers away revealing the clone.
He opens his eyes and sits up. "What happened?"
She hugs him and answers, "Nothing too important. I'm just glad you're okay."
"You call facing off Zethrid in the ships I designed and saving all realities nothing important." Lotor huffs.
"You saved all realities?" Shir… the clone asks confused.
Allura blushes, "Yeah, but…."
The hangar opens up and she turns her head around to see Shiro and the other paladins along with Romelle.
Krolia asks, "I tried contacting you but with no avail. Where were you guys?"
Lance replies, "Well we got shrunk by a magic skunk and had to find a yalmor so it could lead us to the faunatonium and then used it to unshrink ourselves." He smiles and adds, "So ready to charge up the Lions?"
Author's Note: I have decided to forego Shiro's disease as it's never really been brought up expect in Season 7 episode one in cannon and I feel like if Adam and Shiro were really a couple there'd be more than just his life is at stake arguing going on about. Amway's I hoped you guys enjoyed the chapter:)
