Chapter 15: Lions Pride(Allura's POV)
Allura smiles in relief as she watches the paladins form Voltron and sweep through a part of Sendak's fleet with ease and then fly close to them. "Welcome back again."
"It's good to be back." Shiro responds.
"Now let's take out Sendak's ship and the rest of his fleet."
"Roger that."
But more ships arrive and direct their firepower onto them. The Altas shakes hard, but she manages to stand her ground. "Coran make our heading 5.75 to lessen the surface of how much we get hit."
"Yes Princess."
"MFEs, what is your status?"
"Power dropping."
"Head back to the Atlas and recharge. We could use you later."
"Copy that."
Allura looks over to Kuro as another blast rocks the Altas. "Kuro hostiles on the starboard side. Get ready to fire at them!"
Kuro nods, "Ammunitions to starboard."
More explosions rock the sky and she tenses. This doesn't look good. The Cruiser blockade Sendak has made is stopping them from moving forward and getting near his ship. Gripping the handles of the bridge she says, "Commander Holt, how long before the Zaiforge cannons are in position?"
"Based on their trajectory I'd say then less than sixteen minutes and their conversion point is…."
"Commander?"
"I know what Sendak is planning. He's planning to have the Zaiforge cannons shoot a raised particle ammunition powerful enough to vaporize Earth."
"Is that even feasible?"
"Yes because I gave them the technology. When I was enslaved they had me work on how to raise particle ammunition."
She sighs but stands firm. "Paladins, we need you to halt your attack."
"Why princess?" Shiro asks.
"Because the Zaiforge cannons, if all five of them converge will have enough power to vaporize Earth and everyone on it."
"That's terrible." Hunk comments.
"Yes, so we need you to stop the cannons from converging if we can't make it through this Cruiser blockade and attack Sendak's ship. MFEs, can you take out the cannons on the ground so the Paladins don't have anything extra to worry about?"
"Of course. We're almost fully charged and ready to go. Whatever is powering the Atlas is amazing." responds Officer Griffin.
"Good then we have our course of action. Paladins good luck."
"Same to you Princess," Shiro says and then the transmission with them ends. Looking at the battle it will be a close fight. Their shield isn't working at the moment and they have many more enemy ships to get to before they can even reach where Sendak is.
Determination coursing through her, she asks, "Zoe what's the state of the shield?"
"It still needs some time to recover…."
Another hit rocks the Atlas and Commander Holt comments, "There's a fire in one of the compartments of the ship. Employing fire suppressors."
"We can't take much more hits like this."
"Wait the shield is coming back online."
Just as Zoe says that an orange particle barrier goes up and blocks them from another incoming blast and several other blasts.
"This is getting us nowhere! We're no closer to Sendak's ship and these cruisers keep coming out of thin air." Adrien comments.
"We can win this. Voltron has faced fleets bigger than this. We can win." Allura says remaining firm. "Commander how much more time?"
"About a minute left!"
Then something calls to her, speaks to her. The ship then becomes bathed in a pure blue light and now she suddenly knows what to do. Just like when she piloted Blue. It's a euphoric feeling and she knows it's right.
"Those plates won't hold for much longer! They were only designed to contain short bursts, not a sustained blast."
Now or never. "Everyone, I know what to do."
"Really princess?"
"Yes."
She pushes a button on her command board and suddenly she sees the ships internal structure start to change. And when the ship is done transforming it looks like a version of Voltron, except bigger and bulkier.
Suddenly the plates that the Lions are holding explode and she yells, "Coran move us forward to intercept the beam and destroy those five cannons!"
"Aye, aye Princess!"
She grabs the railings as they shoot across the sky intercepting the beam and suddenly a sword slices all five canons in a quick succession. Moving fluidly they take out the other cruisers along with Sendak's ship in one fell swoop with the sword.
Zoe shouts, "That was amazing it was like the ship was calling me, telling me what I needed to do."
"Just like the Lions," She murmurs to herself.
"What about the Paladins? Are they okay?" Coran asks.
"Shiro, Lance, Pidge, Hunk, Marinette, do you read me? Paladins do you copy?"
She shakes her head, "Nothing. Those blasts must have been quite the hit. Let's get them back to Earth."
Landing on the platform of the Garrison she sighs in relief. The battle is over. There is still a whole universe that needs to be fixed but they won the battle. Suddenly a purple burst shoots through the sky and lands in front of the Atlas. A transmission opens to reveal a red-headed Altean with light red cheek marks on her face and amber eyes.
"I come in peace in the name of Honerva mother of Lotor."
Allura's eyes widen and exclaims, "That cannot be. Lotor said his mother was dead."
"She was in a trance for a while but has finally broken out of that trance and she wants to reunite with her son. Our savior."
"Alright you can meet him, but I can't promise anything."
"That is alright Princess Allura. I just need to speak with him."
A Few Months Later:
Allura stands at the pulpit commemorating their swift victory over the Galra and to mourn those lost in the battle. Standing beside her are the team that led the Altas, Kuro, Adrien, Zoe, Coran and the pilots of the MFEs, Officer Griffin, Kinkade, Rizavi, Leifsdotter and Kagami.
She begins, "Thank you to all who helped us in the fight to free Earth. My comrades and I are grateful that we won and avenged those who were lost in this tragic war. We have all lost someone, but our fire, our spirit has not died out. They thought they could tear us down but we survived and we have rebuilt most of what has been lost. Earth has begun to heal and grow anew. The past is not forgotten and those lost will live on in our memories forever."
