Yami rubbed the back of his head, 'I really hate attending those meetings…'
Three days since his wounds on his back have healed, and once again he was assigned to another raid within a week. The teen didn't like it, but at least Jaden wouldn't be involved this time.
No, it was the younger gang members' turn to steal some food for the week.
'At least Jaden can run fast,' thought Yami.
He entered to his somewhat room where he shares it with the young brunette. He dropped his back onto the bed before looking up at the evening sky. He then took out the card pendant and looked inside once again.
'…who am I? Is Yami really my name?'
His thoughts were interrupted when Jaden barged into the room with two paper bags.
"Jackpot! Here catch," said Jaden as he tossed a paper bag to Yami.
The teen caught the bag, placing the pendant into his pocket. He opened the bag and saw inside there was a decent meal.
"I know you're fast, but I didn't think you would be able to get these much."
"Yea, normally we only could get a bit, but this time the food trucker was a friend of ours. So, he gave us a decent amount of food," explained Jaden before biting an apple.
Yami chuckled before the two ate their food.
"So… did he…" started Jaden.
"Mm, oh, no. They got decent goods from that house, so just a few punches I got," said Yami.
Jaden coughed, "Just a few?! You still got hurt though!"
Yami smiled, "Trust me, you only wish to get just a few punches from that guy."
"If you say so," murmured Jaden before biting his lower lip, "What… What if he finds out about the escape plan?"
Yami sighed, looking down a bit, "If worst comes to show, you need to run as fast as you can. Run to the nearest police station."
Jaden widened his eyes, "What!? W-What about you?!"
Yami sighed, "It's alright."
"But…" started Jaden.
"Jay, I've done so many raids and killed a few since I was ten. If I step foot in a police station, it will be a one ticket to prison," said Yami.
Jaden thought for a moment, "What… What if you tell them that you're a missing kid as well? Then you wouldn't be arrested."
Yami frowned, "Even if I tell them Jay, stealing and killing is a crime. I may not be sent to an adult prison but a juvenile one instead."
Jaden looked down, sadly.
"Hey, now, don't look upset," said Yami.
"But then you'll never escape from this place," argued Jaden.
Yami shrugged his shoulders, "It's not like I have a place to return to. Anyway, I'll be right back. You better be in bed when I returned."
Jaden nodded, slowly and watched the teen walk out of their room. The brunette sighed as he lay down on his bed and looked at the sky, determine to find a way for the teen to get away from this god-awful place.
In the morning, at the Kaiba mansion, Seto and Solomon were having their breakfast while Mokuba just left for school. As Yugi was an early riser due to his nightmares, he would leave the mansion and wait for his friends at their usual spot to go to school.
However, for the first time, that was not the case.
Suddenly there was a high pitch scream that made Seto and Solomon to cover their ears.
"I'M GOING TO BE LATE!"
"Well, that's a first," murmured Seto as he picked up the paper he was reading.
Solomon nodded just as Yugi dashed into the dining room.
"I need a ride, cous," said Yugi.
Seto smirked, "Wait for me at the entrance."
By the time Yugi made it to school, the first bell rang, and everyone was heading to their homeroom. Seto would only go to school to pick up his assignments for the month since he does have a company to manage.
"Well, this is a first to not see you at our waiting spot, Yug," said Joey, grinning.
"I know. And I would've been late if Seto didn't drop me off," said Yugi, rubbing his tired eyes.
"What made you come late?" Tristan asked.
"Was it another nightmare?" Tea asked, softly.
Yugi was about to reply when the homeroom teacher came in. He leaned over to them, "Tell yea at break. Meet me at the rooftop."
The three nodded before the students sat down to their seats.
Just as promised, Yugi and his friends were at the rooftop of their school.
"So, what's up?" Joey asked.
Yugi sighed, "It's… complicated. It was a dream, but the same time, it was a nightmare."
Joey and Tristan had confused looks on their faces.
"How can it be a dream and a nightmare?" Joey asked.
"I don't know… like I said, it's complicated," replied Yugi.
"Maybe it will clear up if you tell us about it," suggested Tea.
Yugi crossed his arms and closed eyes, "Let's see… I was with my brother, but he looked much older. All of us were hanging out with him. As if he never disappeared."
Joey, Tristan and Tea smiled at the thought of having Yugi's brother back to them.
That's when Yugi looked down, "But then… out of the blue, we were separated from him. The darkness took him… that's when I woke up and saw that I was going to be late."
Tea tapped her chin, "Well, that does sound complicated, but…"
Joey, Tristan and Yugi turned their attention to their female brunette friend.
Tea sighed, "I can't believe I'm saying this, but I believe what Joey said the other day was right."
Joey was confused, "And, um, remind me what I said."
"Oh brother," murmured Tristan.
"That Yugi and his brother have some kind of connection," stated Tea before looking annoyed. "I still can't believe that idea came from Wheeler of all people."
"Hey! Don't you dare start like moneybags!" Joey snapped.
"A… connection," murmured Yugi before looking up at the sky. "If that's true… then the nightmares I've been having are really visions of some sort."
"Most likely," said Tea after hitting Joey on the head. "So, if we could figure out what your dreams mean, then we can find out about your brother."
"Right!" Joey said. "Let's start right now!"
"Idiot let's finish school first," said Tristan.
Joey fell onto the floor, "…right."
Yugi and Tea laughed before the four went back to class. After school, Yugi had the limo to pick them up and drove them to the mansion.
"Looks like Kaiba is working late again," said Joey as the four went to the living room.
"Yea, something about creating a school," said Yugi.
"School? For what?" Tea asked.
"Duel Monsters," replied Yugi. "Of course, it includes the standard subjects as well. He's just adding Dueling lessons."
"That's not a bad idea," murmured Joey.
"Right, let's start," Tea took out several papers, "Tell me the first dream you had."
When Seto got home, he found his cousin and his friends sleeping in the living room floor, papers scattered around.
Seto lifted his left eyebrow before picking one of the papers.
'This is one of Yugi's nightmares,' he thought before looking over at them.He closed his eyes before dropping his suitcase on the table, hard.
"What?! Huh?" Joey said as he looked around with tired eyes.
The others woke up as well.
"Oh, Seto? What time is it?" Yugi asked with a yawn.
"Late, but since it's Friday, I'm letting it slide," Seto looked down at the papers. "Now, mind telling me, what are you four doing?"
"Um, well," started Yugi, knowing his older cousin doesn't believe in magic.
"We're trying to crack the code in Yugi's dreams," said Joey, fully awake.
Seto blinked his eyes, "Crack the code? In Yugi's dreams?"
Tea sighed, "Joey – no, we think that Yugi has some sort of connection with his brother. We guess that's why he's getting those dreams nonstop."
"Tea, you know that I don't believe in that sort of things," said Seto before frowning, 'But it is strange that Yugi is getting those dreams since the day his brother disappeared…'
"Seto, I know this sound ridiculous to you," Yugi looked at the scattered papers, "But, these nightmares… something is telling me that my brother is still alive – I just know it!"
Seto widened his eyes, recalling the times when Yugi's brother would know if Yugi was hurt or was having a nightmare. It was that the two shared a room together.
Seto then smirked, "Well, then, get some sleep – all of you. You have the whole day tomorrow to 'crack' your nightmares, Yugi."
Yugi smiled, "Right."
As Seto was heading to his room, he heard Joey and Tristan arguing who will get the bed.
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Sapporo, Yami and Jaden were running through the alleys. While Yami was in raids for the past month, Jaden would sneak to Hirutani's room and grab some money and two cloaks.
The day of raiding a rich house, Yami and Jaden sneaked away. As they were close to the city, Yami stopped.
"This… This is as far as I can go," he murmured before looking at a disbelief brunette, "Go. I can easily report that you were captured."
"But…" Jaden stopped as Yami handed him the bag with all the supplies they could snag from the warehouse.
"Go," murmured Yami before heading back.
Jaden held his tears before dashing into the city but stopped and looked back.
'I… I can't… I can't leave him behind. Who knows what will happen if he finds out about this? I… I need to get him out of there…'
As Yami was returning to his post, he sensed someone was following him. The teen gritted his teeth before he started to run through the alley ways.
'I hope it's just one person that followed me, but with my luck, I highly doubt it,' he thought.
Yami was about to turn a corner when he heard gunshots. He knew who was following him, but did he bring others?
The teen made another turn when he felt a tight pressure in his left leg. He fell to the ground, face first before wincing from the pain in his leg.
'Damnit… why did it had to be him for all people?'
Slowly, Yami used the walls to get up and began walking again. But he only took a few steps when he felt another pressure on his right leg before falling to the ground again.
"Now, is that a way to show gratitude to your family, boy. Must I take you to your father, again? So, you can learn your lesson."
Yami winced before turning around to see it was his father's right-hand man, Chiyo. With his dark blue eyes, the man grinned viciously toward him.
He smirked, "At least now you can't run off… I'll have your father deal with you while I fix up your freaking mess. I can't believe you set that brat free…"
Yami glared at him before wincing as Chiyo kicked him on his stomach.
"Akio, take him to Hirutani while I go and find that other brat," ordered Chiyo.
A man with black hair nodded, but just before he could grab Yami, there were another set of gunshots.
"Shit! Let's get out of here!" Chiyo said.
"And the brats?" Akio asked.
"Leave it to me," said Chiyo as he took out his gun. He aimed at Yami before firing the gun.
