The ministry was oddly dark and quiet for the hour it was. Hermione ran across the marbled floors to the lifts alongside Luna, Neville and Ginny with Harry and Ron in the lead. "We must get down to the department of mysteries. I know he's there; I know it! I saw it! Voldemort has Sirius! He needs help." Harry was very distraught at the thought that Sirius needed help.
"Harry! HARRY STOP! What if it's a trap?" Hermione tried her best to get Harry to stop, but he kept on and on while the lift took them to their destination.
A cool voice came through the lift. "Stopping level 9 Department of Mysteries."
Everyone got out of lift noticing the silent and empty hallways, Ron questioned, "Harry are you sure that Sirius is here? It's awfully quiet down here. I don't even see any Unspeakables."
"Yes, for the last bleeding time, HE'S HERE I KNOW IT! He's got to be behind one of these doors. Come on and HELP ME!" Harry starts yanking on any door he can get a hold of. Finally, one opens.
The room harry opened is empty. It's just more doors leading to more hallways. "This way, this it I know it! I saw this in my dream." Harry ran in and started pulling on more doors frantically.
Following Harry, the rest of the group came into the hallway, but the door behind them then slammed shut. "Harry, it's pretty silent down here. Are you positive Sirius is behind a door here?" Hermione tried to point out that there was only them here.
"YES, FOR THE LAST FUCKING TIME! I can feel him Hermione. He's through one of these doors. Try them all!" Harry ordered us to start opening doors. Only one opened and no one had even touched it yet. "This way, he's between a shelf at the end. I can feel it in my bones that he's through this door." Harry darted through the open door without any precautions.
The rest of us slowly followed Harry, however something didn't feel right. The place shouldn't be this empty, especially at this time of night. There wasn't a guard or anyone else in sight. Harry ran in between the aisles looking at the ends. "Where is he? He's supposed to be here."
Pops were heard all around us. Turning around, Death Eaters descended upon them. "Harry, I told you it was a trap. Sirius isn't here. He was never here. Voldemort planted the idea in your head." Hermione tried again to reason with Harry, but even now he did not believe her.
"Shut up shut up SHUT UP! YOU'RE LYING! HE'S HERE, I KNOW IT! HE'S HERE!" Harry had finally flown off his broom handle. "YOU KNOW NOTHING! YOU'RE JUST A MUDBLOODED BITCH! YOU'VE NEVER CARED ABOUT ANYONE BUT YOURSELF!"
Hermione was floored. How could one of her best friends talk to her that way? "You know Harry, I'm sorry I have tried continuously to keep you alive. I hope you make it through tonight. Look around! This is a trap Harry and you've led us right into it." Hermione gestured around them for emphasis on the obvious truth.
"If I were you POTTER, I'd listen to the know-it-all mudblood. She's right you know. You fell for the dark lord's trap, hook line and sinker. Now he wants something from row 205, you'd best scuttle along and get it for him." Lucius Malfoy pointed his wand at Harry. "Imperio! Potter go down to row 205 about halfway and grab the orb that's sitting there with your name on it."
"Harry! Don't do it! Fight the curse, Harry! Don't hand him that orb!" Luna slid up next to Harry trying her best to get through to him. "You must drop the orb, Harry. Let the mist go into the ether! Drop it! DROP IT NOW HARRY!'
Harry dropped the orb he was holding. The white mist rose up in the shape of a woman, her voice echoing in the room. "For neither can live while the other survives."
More pops were heard around the room, the Order having arrived. Help had finally come. "Pup, why? Why did you come here and bring your friends?" Sirius had come with the Order, looking at Harry despondently.
"But Padfoot, HE HAD YOU! He had you tied up!?" Harry was shaking his head. "I saw it, I know he had you tied up just there." Harry turned and pointed towards the darker end of one of the rows. "He was torturing you. I heard your screams. I heard them!"
"Harry you've been played. I was at home eating dinner when I got the call that you lot had taken off on a rescue mission." Sirius looked at harry and shook his head. "All you had to do was send me a fire message or an owl."
Harry looked around and shook his head. He started walking towards Sirius.
"Let's get you lot out of here and back to school." Sirius grabbed Harry and gave him a hug. "I'll see you to the fireplaces, come on."
Leaving the room was a mistake, spells were flying everywhere. They were backed into a corner and ended up in a dark room with an archway that was speaking to them. "NO DON'T! Don't go near that arch! It's not a good thing. Can't you hear the whispers!" Luna was wise beyond her years, using her otherworldly instincts to warn them.
"She's right Harry, you can't go near that veil." Sirius tried to pull us away from it, only to stop when a high-pitched laugh cut through the darkness.
"Run Harry! You mustn't stay here, no matter what happens, you have to take your friends and leave. We'll hold her off, Bella is no match for you all. Your only way of helping is to get back to school and stay there. I'll send you a letter when I've dispatched her." Sirius pushed the group towards the exit, trying to keep an eye on Bellatrix.
"BELLA! Come out and fight like a witch! You won't make it out of this chamber tonight if I have anything to say about it." Sirius spun around looking for Bellatrix, having lost sight of her.
"Cousin, cousin. Cousin. We both know better than that, you can't best me." Bellatrix pointed her wand right at Sirius, aiming for his heart. "You marked your death by coming here tonight." She shot a spell towards Sirius who in turn blocked it with protego.
Spells flew back and forth lighting up the death chamber. One finally hit its target, the green light had landed right on Sirius's chest, making him fly backwards through the Veil with a surprised look on his face.
"NOOOOOOOOO SIRIUS!" Harry screamed and tried rushing towards Bellatrix who was cackling madly.
"I KILLED SIRIUS BLACK! I KILLED SIRIUS BLACK!" She was cackling and dancing around the room mad as a hatter.
Hermione yanked Harry's arm, eventually getting him to turn and run out of the room. "We must go Harry! Sirius would want us to leave. He'd want us to get out and go after her later. We need to let the adults take care of things!"
Harry spun and pointed his wand in Hermione's face. "It's your fault. He'd still be alive if it wasn't for you. You were the one standing next to him. She was aiming for you and Sirius took the spell. You're nothing to me anymore, you're nothing but a worthless mudblooded bitch. SIRIUS WAS KILLED BECAUSE OF YOU!" Harry's voice was soft at first, but escalated until he was roaring in Hermione's face.
"Don't worry Hermione. Harry doesn't mean it. He'll calm down later." Luna took Hermione by the arm. "We'll get out of here and let Dumbledore know and he can fix it."
"Dumbledore can't fix this one Luna. Sirius fell through the death veil. He's never coming back and it's all that mudbloods fault. She's supposed to be the smart one and she couldn't even stop him from falling backwards though the veil." As always Ron had piped up and took Harry's side.
Hermione was softly crying, everyone not knowing she and Sirius had secretly been dating before this mess of a night. She wasn't about to tell anyone that though, no matter how devastated and heartbroken she felt at his death. Wiping her tears she shoved to the front of the group and left through the closet fireplace back to Hogwarts. She was going to pack her things and move out of Gryffindor Tower. She had nowhere to go, but that was ok, she would figure it out.
The rest of the group followed Hermione through the fireplace and once back at Hogwarts, Harry took off on his own. Hermione didn't care where he went as long as he left her alone. "Why are you crying? You don't deserve to cry. Sirius was nothing to you, but he was my GODFATHER! MINE! You don't deserve anything. I don't want to see your face again." Harry had turned back around to yell at Hermione, rage clear on his face.
"I'll just be going then Harry. I'm sorry about your godfather, but it wasn't my fault. You can't survive the killing curse Harry, you know that!" Hermione looked at Harry with tear filled eyes, hating the ugly look he is sending her way. "You won't see me again Harry."
"If you can't survive the killing curse, then how did I do it? Sirius had finally gotten free; I was going to live with him and have a real home, but you went and fucked that all up didn't you? You should've never gone to the ministry with us. You're just a waste of a witch." Harry stalked off and up the stairs, yelling behind him. "Don't even think about showing up to Grimmauld Place for the funeral. You won't be welcomed!"
Ron brushed past, glaring at Hermione. "Yeah bitch, what Harry said. I always knew you were worthless."
"If I'm so worthless Ron then why have I been the one to do your homework for you through the years? I won't be doing it again, you can count on that! Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be going since I'm apparently not wanted here." Hermione spun on her heels and walked off.
"Ronnekins she's got a point. You and Harry always had Hermione to do your homework for you." Fred and George turned around from their comfy chairs by the fire. "Think on that while you go upstairs."
"I don't care about that bitch. She's not that smart. I can do my own homework now." Ron stalked off after Harry.
The twins just looked at each other and turned back to the fire. They knew that Ron and Harry were making a huge mistake. One day they would learn, one day they would get their comeuppance.
