Chapter 4: Running Through the Sky

(Sky Sanctuary Zone)

Chaos was standing on this one platform and looking at the scenery around him.

Chaos- A large structure in floating in the sky? Reminds me of Angel Island. Then again, these almost look like the ruins of the Echidna civilization. But Stone Fist and his tribe wouldn't let the Master Emerald shrine fall into a state of disrepair.

Then Chaos looked over in the distance and saw what appeared to be the Death Egg rising from the clouds below.

Chaos- The Death Egg? No, that obviously isn't the same one that James built. That one looks a little more advanced in technology compared to the one I remember me, Kyuubi, Marco, Prince Calmly, and Icarus destroyed. First a chemical plant that looks like something James could've made but I don't remember him doing…and now a place that looks like a part of Angel Island but I don't remember seeing…what is going on?

Then Chaos looked up and saw what looked like a spiral road going up to the top of the sanctuary.

Chaos- Maybe I'll find some clues up there.

Then Chaos began jumping off of the pillars to get to the fountain-like spiral road leading upward, but as soon as Chaos landed, the road began to crumble behind him.

Chaos- Must not be as stable as I thought! Better move fast like I always do!

Chaos began running up the road as the platforms behind him crumbled away. Luckily, Chaos managed to reach the top of the Sky Sanctuary before the road fall completely apart.

(In another part of the Sky Sanctuary Zone)

Sonic was riding a grind rail through the Sky Sanctuary until he landed on a platform below.

Sonic- I remember this place. This is where Tails and I chased Eggman after he stole the Master Emerald to power his Death Egg as Angel Island began falling from the sky. Stange, I keep entering locations from my past all of a sudden. First Green Hill Zone, then the Chemical Plant Zone, and now the Sky Sanctuary Zone. What's next?

Then Sonic remembered how Mario and the others were sucked into those portals when that strange monster crashed his birthday party.

Sonic- I wish I had Mario and the rest of the team by my side right now. I'm sure they could help me get to the bottom of this mess in no time. I just hope they're ok. But right now, I better find Knuckles and restore him like I did with Tails and Amy!

Then Sonic ran into the sanctuary ruins. But unlike the path Chaos was taking, the path Sonic was running on seemed to be going downward instead of upward. Also, Sonic was running into the core of the floating sanctuary instead of the outside. When Sonic got to the bottom, there was what appeared to be a garden with three Eggman robots with jetpacks and a laser gun there. Each of the robots fired at Sonic once they noticed him, but Sonic easily dodged their shots and smashed each of them with his spin jump and homing shot attack. Then Sonic saw a red orb on a platform nearby.

Sonic- I remember this! If I stand on that, it will beam me up to the area above! That was how Knuckles was able to get me and Tails to the Death Egg before it launched into space! Hope it still works.

Sonic jumped on the red orb and a beam of light shined over Sonic. The next thing Sonic knew, he was being transported to the upper parts of the Sky Sanctuary Zone. Once there, Sonic saw the Death Egg rising above the clouds and moving just above a familiar looking platform.

Sonic- I also remember this. This was here I jumped off and got onto the Death Egg. Guess I better back up there!

Then Sonic dashed up the road. But like with the road Chaos was running on, the road was falling apart behind Sonic. But Sonic was too fast for the collapsing to keep up, just like with Chaos.

(Back in the Timeless limbo)

Sonic had gotten out of the Sky Sanctuary Zone and saw Knuckles was returning to normal like how Tails and Amy returned to normal.

Knuckles- Thanks for the help. Not that I needed it! But it's good to have my sanctuary back.

Sonic- Some things never change, I guess.

Knuckles- So, what is this place? It's all white and creepy looking.

Palutena (telepathically to Knuckles)- You appear to be in a place outside of time and reality.

Knuckles- Say what now?

Sonic- I don't know all of it, but I keep finding myself in locations from my past adventures ever since I got here. But it also appears to restore everyone trapped inside of them back to normal as I run through them. By the way, Palutena, Viridi, you find anyone else?

Viridi (telepathically to Sonic)- Not sure, but we've detected something that feels like a Chaos Emerald.

Sonic- A Chaos Emerald?! I could use those! Where?
