Chapter 6: Speeding On the Highway

(Speed Highway)

Sonic and Chaos were standing on the roof a large skyscraper in what appeared to be a large city. Chaos stood towards the edge and tried to get familiar with the area.

Chaos- I take it this is from one of your adventures? I don't recognize any of this.

Sonic- Yeah, it was. This is the city of Station Square. Eggman was trying to resurrect some ancient creature with the power of the Chaos Emeralds and I traveled through this highway in search of one of my friends after I lost her in an amusement park.

Chaos- What's an amusement park and what's a highway?

Sonic- Never mind. Those things won't be around in your time.

Then Chaos took one end of his scarf, held it to his nose, and made a long inhale.

Sonic- Uh…what are you doing, Chaos?

Chaos- Just trying to pray for luck from my lucky scarf.

Sonic- Lucky? You actually believe in that stuff?

Chaos- Not really, but it was Rainbow who made and gave me this scarf. I'm reminded of her every time I wear it. So, I always bring it whenever I go on my adventures for luck. …Oh shit…

Sonic- What's wrong?

Chaos- I just remembered…Rainbow is pregnant in the time where I was plucked from! I was running through the fields to gather some dahlia flowers since Rainbow loves them so much. But then that thing pulled me into this place with you before I could get back home. If I don't return home before Rainbow gives birth to my own child…I don't know if I'll be able to face Rainbow again!

Sonic-This is time travel. I'm sure once we get everything fixed, you and Kyuubi can return in plenty of time. Not that you need much time with speed like yours.

Chaos- I suppose you're right.

Sonic- Come on! Race you to the finish!

Then Sonic dashed off the building and onto the highway.

Chaos- Oh, it is on, Sonic!

Then Chaos dashed onto the highway as well.

(Another part of Speed Highway)

Chaos was running on a road that was moving downward towards a lower area. Once Chaos landed there, there were several robots driving those hover crafts that make police sirens, like in Sonic Adventure.

Chaos- Strange. I don't think I've seen James make any machine like that.

As soon as the robots noticed Chaos, their sirens went off and Chaos covered his ears.

Chaos- Damn it! And why do they have to make such an annoying sound?!

They tried to run Chaos over, but Chaos jumped into the air and destroyed on with his homing shot and stopped the siren sound.

Chaos- Much better.

Before the other two robots could do anything, Chaos quickly smashed them with a spin dash and continued through the Speed Highway. After n bouncing up from a spring pad, Chaos landed on a road. However, a car almost ran Chaos over. Luckily, Chaos avoided the car by jumping over it.

Chaos- Hey, I'm running here!

The cars just honked their horns at Chaos, though Chaos didn't understand why the people driving the cars seemed so angry at him. Instead, Chaos just continued running through Speed Highway. Eventually, Chaos found a rocket with a handlebar coming out of a small platform. When Chaos grabbed it, the rocket launched Chaos through a glass window of a nearby building.

(In another part of Speed Highway)

Sonic was dashing on the sides of buildings. Using his speed, he was running to run on the glass windows, but they were shattering behind him as Sonic stepped on them. Eventually Sonic got back on the highway road.

Sonic- I don't see Chaos anywhere. He must be taking a different path than I am. No matter. I'll make him eat my dust.

Then Sonic continued dashing along the road when he saw the grabble bucket of a bulldozer at the end of the road. Sonic remembered them and ran into them. This caused the grabble bucket to move Sonic to the higher roads of the highway. From those higher roads, Sonic boosted his dash and ran on the roof of a tall building with a helicopter on it. The helicopter was about to take off and Sonic grabbed hold of one of the rails before it took off. While the helicopter was still airborne, the rocket Chaos was riding was crashing through a building and near the helicopter. When the rocket flew past the helicopter, Chaos ditched the rocket and grabbed the other rail on the helicopter.

Sonic- There you are, Chaos! Decided to hitch a ride too? Guess great minds do think alike!

Chaos- This is one crazy time you live in, Sonic! All of these machines and loud noises!

Sonic- Sorry, guess technology isn't a think in your time.

Chaos- So…what do we do now?

Sonic- On my mark, we both let go!

Chaos- What?!

Sonic- This is what I did when I ran through Speed Highway. Trust me!

Once they got over this one building, Sonic remembered what happened next.

Sonic- Ok, now!

Then Sonic let go of the rail and dropped down. Chaos was hesitant at first, but he also let go and dropped down. They both landed on a glass roof. However, it began to crack under their feet after they landed.

Chaos- Uh…Sonic…is this supposed to happen?

Sonic- Yeah, this is what happened last time. But I'll race you to the bottom!

Chaos- Uh…what now…?

Then the glass roof shattered and Sonic and Chaos began falling down. But then they began running down the walls and avoiding pillars that were placed down that path.

(Back in the timeless limbo)

Sonic and Chaos were exiting the Speed Highway area and they were laughing and smiling like crazy.

Sonic- I'm telling you, I reached the bottom first!

Chaos- No way! I beat you by a millisecond!

Then Sonic and Chaos wrapped one arm around and other's shoulder as they continued laughing like crazy.

Palutena (telepathically to Sonic and Chaos)- Well…you two seem to be getting along…

Viridi (telepathically to Sonic and Chaos)- I guess it's been too long since Chaos sensei or Sonic had any real competition. This must be a breath of fresh air for the both of you.

Chaos- You could say that, Viridi.

Just then, Sonic and Chaos saw Cream and Cheese being restored and returning to normal.

Cream- Thanks for saving me, Mr. Sonic! It was scary in the dark, but I tried to be brave.

Sonic- You did fine, Cream.

Chaos- Cute! This another friend of yours?

Sonic- Yeah, this is Cream the Rabbit and her pet Chao, Cheese.

Cheese- Mr. Sonic, who is that white hedgehog? He looks almost like you do.

Sonic- This is Chaos. He was the hedgehog who was part of the original Super Mario Brothers' Team.

Cream- I guess that's Mr. Chaos looks like you. The same way Mr. Marco looks like Mr. Mario.

Chaos- Mario…?

Sonic- He's Marco Mario's descendant and the leader of the current Super Mario Brothers' Team. In fact, Mario was the one who rebuilt the team after Tabuu returned.

Chaos- I guess that makes sense. But the real question is where to next?
