"You called on a vengeance demon?" Charles asked, astonished.
"Accidentally, I was feeling rather wrathful regarding whoever was responsible for last night's fiasco and she showed up. I invited her along."
"And you wished vengeance on behalf of the injured and dead?"
"Yes."
Charles looked thoughtful and then laughed. "Gods, Molly, remind me never to make you mad."
"Never make me mad." She grinned ruefully at him. "How are the kids doing?"
"Alex and Cordelia are experiencing emotional shock, they tried to help as many people as they could and found a number of dead and injured. There wasn't anything they could do about the dead at the time, but they were able to mark their locations and their bodies are being collected. Jesse and Aura reverted to Wolfbloods when the spell ended, to everyone's relief. It'll be awhile until we have a total on the number of dead, but far too many of them are children. And Buffy has reported her sister Dawn is missing. She and Joyce Summers are waiting for word on whether the police have found her. Alex is still running in Miller Woods with Cordelia, I sent them out to run off some of their stress from this mess. He's the only one in the tame pack who can do Eolas, when he gets back I'll have him search for Dawn. Reports from the hospital show the injured remained injured even after the spell ended. I had hoped maybe, but no, they stayed."
"And Rupert Giles knows Ethan, the man who preformed the spell, he expected him to show up last night, but he never did. I waited even after Ethan was collected. That should prove an interesting conversation, don't you think?"
"Very." And now Charles was back to grim, the Watcher/Librarian was proving to be a major pain in the butt.
Willow woke up with a headache and tried to focus passed the pain. She cracked open her eyes and saw a picture on the wall. She didn't recognize it, she rolled over onto her back and immediately squeezed her eyes shut as sunlight from a window hit her. Wait, she didn't have a window in her bedroom, she had a balcony. That begged the question, who's room was she in? Oh and why did her head hurt?
"Buffy, tell me again what happened last night." Joyce ordered.
"I don't know, Mom! How many times do I have to say it? Dawn and I were trick or treating, that's the last thing I remember. The next thing I knew I was blocks away from the last place I remembered being and nothing in-between. I wish I could tell you something, anything, but I don't know anything. The police said gas pipes burst all over town and caused fires and hallucinations. I must have been caught up in it, like a lot of people were. Dawn too, I guess. I didn't abandon her on purpose, Mom. I wouldn't."
Joyce sighed. "I know, honey, I'm sorry, I'm just so worried. After what happened just a few weeks ago with that weird cult at Crestwood College and those girls being kidnapped, I just can't help worrying."
"I know, Mom, I'm worried too. The police are looking, but apparently a lot of kids got hurt and the Mayor's right, those pipes should have been replaced a long time ago, Sunnydale has had several gas leak related problems and this was the worst one."
Willow sat up on the bed and was relieved to find her costume was still on, but it still didn't explain where she was or what happened to her. She carefully stood up, her head feeling like it was going to fall off if she moved too fast and made her way to the door of the strange bedroom and eased it open. She walked down the hall and found a bathroom,. After relieving herself and winching at the sight of her pasty looking face in the mirror, she made her way out of the bathroom and began exploring. She found the living room and discovered the scent of coffee calling her name and followed it to the kitchen.
"Morning." Oz said. "Coffee." He handed her a cup and she gratefully sipped it. "You smoked pot last night." Willow spit out the sip she'd just taken.
Alex caught a scent that didn't belong in Miller Woods and knew from the way Cordelia went on alert that she smelled it too. Following the scent they padded through the woods on silent feet searching for the source of the new scent. They found a young girl laying by a tree, asleep. Alex transformed and knelt beside her.
"She smells like a wolf." He told Cordelia, who'd also transformed. "But not like a Wolfblood or any werewolf I've ever smelled before. I wonder who she is?" He spotted something on her wrist and found an ID. "Uh oh."
"What?" Cordelia asked.
"The ID bracelet says Dawn Summers."
"As in Buffy's sister?! She's dressed in a furry costume, the spell, Alex -."
"Left her changed. But into what?" He carefully picked her up and carried her back toward where they'd stashed their clothes. He set her down and quickly dressed. "She must be exhausted." He commented as he picked her up again and carried her toward the house, Cordelia walking beside him. "This could be permanent, whatever this is."
"Which means her life just changed forever thanks to the idiot who did that spell."
