Chapter 1: Going Topside

"Zuzu, you alright?"

Zuzu groaned as she opened her eyes, coming face to face with…
"Yuya?"

Yugo chuckled.

"Sorry, not this time."

Zuzu shook her head, finally clearing her vision.

"Sorry, I'm still getting used to all of this."

Yugo waved it off, though.

"It's fine. I've had to stop myself from calling you Rin half a dozen times."

Zuzu looked around, taking in their surroundings. One thing was for sure, they weren't in Paradise City anymore.

"Where are we?"

"My home dimension. Zuzu, welcome to New Domino City!"

The cityscape was impressive, with tall skyscrapers far off in the distance. If Zuzu didn't know any better, she'd think the buildings were floating.

"Nice view, isn't it?"

"Breathtaking…"

"Tommy, get away from that!"

Their conversation was cut short by the shriek of a mother grabbing her son as he tried to touch Yugo's Duel Runner.

"Honestly, what an eyesore!"

"HEY!" Yugo shouted. "That's my Duel Runner you're talking about!"

"Then you should be ashamed of yourself! Honestly, such a filthy thing has no right being seen in Stardust Park!"

Yugo was about to retort before doing a double take.

"Stardust Park? Uh oh."

"Yugo, what's wrong?"

"We've got to go, now!"

Before Zuzu could probe him for more information, he had already dragged her onto his bike, tossed a helmet into her hands and drove off, the girl just barely having enough time to put it on.

"Yugo, what's wrong?"

"No time to explain!"

"Help, Sector Security!"

Yugo drove as fast as he could, weaving around honking cars as he tried to get as far away from the park, Zuzu screaming all the while. At last, they reached a bridge, and Yugo began to slow down.

"Sorry about that, Zuzu, but it was important that we got out of there, and fast."

"But why?"

"Take a look down there."

Zuzu glanced down over the side of the bridge. As opposed to the bright, spacious cityscape in front of them, the buildings beneath them were grimy, small, and cramped together.

"What is that dump?"

"My home."

"Oh, uh…"

"No, you're right. You see Zuzu, New Domino is separated into two halves: the haves, and the have nots. The haves, or The Tops, control all the wealth and power, while The Commons are left with the scraps they throw away."

"Yugo…"

Before he could continue their conversation, police sirens blared behind them.

"Shit," Yugo grunted. "Sector Security."

"Pull over, Yugo! You won't escape me now!"

"Oh god, not him."

"You know that guy?"

"Unfortunately. He's Officer Trudge, and he and I have a history."

Trudge smirked.

"Time for some payback, scum. This is Officer 227 to headquarters, requesting permission to engage the criminals."

In the police headquarters, a man in a purple suit watched the events unfold from the news feed of a passing news helicopter. His interest peaked when he saw just who Trudge was chasing.

"Those two…Hmmm… permission granted, Officer, but bring them in alive. I have a few questions I'd like to ask them."

"Over and out, sir! I activate the field spell, Speed World Neo!"

Yugo grunted as his duel disk was forcefully activated.

"Yugo, what's going on?"

"Hang on Zuzu, we're about to Turbo Duel!"

"What? You mean we're about to duel on this thing?"

"Do you have a better idea?"

"Yeah, surrender peacefully!"

Yugo scoffed.

"Sorry, but these Security goons don't know the meaning of peace! In this world, you duel and you either win, or you lose! And I don't plan on losing!"

DUEL!

Yugo: 8000

Trudge: 4000

"Even though you have an unfair advantage, I'll let you take the first move, since I'm a nice guy."

Yugo rolled his eyes, but complied.

"I'll start with the tuner monster Speedroid Den-Den Daiko Duke (1000/1000) in attack mode! Next, since I control a Wind Monster, I can special summon Speedroid CarTurbo (800/1200) from my hand! Now, my Duke will give CarTurbo a Tune up so I can Synchro Summon! Come on out, Hi-Speedroid Kendama! Now I'll banish Den-Den Daiko to use his effect to deal you 500 points of damage!"

Trudge: 3500

"Typical of scum like you to resort to such dirty tricks! I'm adding assaulting an officer to your list of charges!"

"Yeah yeah, whatever. I'll set one card face down and end my turn."

"About time. Now I'll show you how a real duel is played! First, I'll summon Marauding Captain (1200/400) in attack mode! And with his effect I'll special summon Jutte Fighter (700/900)!"

"Big deal, all you can make is a level 5!"
"Are you sure about that? By decreasing the attack points of a Synchro Monster on the field by 500, I can special summon Sasumata Gardna (1000/2000) from my hand!"

"Uh oh (2200-1700)."

"Uh oh is right, because my level 2 Jutte Fighter now tunes with my level 3 Marauding Captain and my level 3 Sasumata Gardna! Come on out, Goyo King (2800/2000)! Time to pay you back for all of the times you escaped me. Goyo King, attack Hi-Speedroid Kendama! And it's about to get worse for you Yugo, because when my King attacks an opponent's monster, he gains 400 attack for every Earth Warrior Synchro monster I have on my field (2800-3200)!"

Trudge's massive warrior cut Kendama in half with one swipe of his sword, the backlash from the attack nearly sending Yugo off course as Zuzu clung to him for dear life.

Yugo: 6500

"And when Goyo King destroys a monster, I can add it to my field. Now Kendama, attack your former master and put him in his place!"

Zuzu ducked, expecting the sword to strike her, but Yugo had other plans.

"Go, Reverse Brainwashing! This returns all monsters on the field to their owners, so Kendama is right back where it belongs."

Trudge snarled as the monster he stole returned to Yugo.

"Commoner scum, always pulling out these underhanded tactics. I end my turn."

"What are you going to do, Yugo? None of your monsters can beat that thing."

"Simple, I'm going to win! And to start, I'll activate the spell card Iron Call to bring back Speedroid CarTurbo! Next, I'll summon Speedroid Red Eyed Dice (100/100) in attack mode! Now my level 1 Dice will tune with my level 3 CarTurbo to Synchro Summon! Come on out, Hi-Speedroid Puzzle (1300/1600) in attack mode!"

"You're joking, right? It's still too weak!"

"I didn't say I was done, did I? I activate Carturbo's effect from the graveyard! By banishing it and Red Eyed Dice, all Wind Monsters I control gain 800 attack (2200-3000) (1300-2100)! Now Hi-Speedroid Puzzle, attack Goyo King!"

"What? But my King is still stronger!"

"Hi-Speedroid Puzzle's effect activates! When it battles a Special Summoned monster, its attack doubles (2100-4200)!"

"What?"

Trudge could only watch as Yugo's monster shot puzzle pieces out of its arm cannon, ripping his to shreds.

Trudge: 2100

"Now Kendama, finish him off!"

Trudge tried to swerve out of the way, but Kendama was faster, piercing him and dropping his life points to zero.

Trudge: 0000

Smoke billowed out of Trudge's duel runner as he was forced to a stop, Yugo and Zuzu speeding off as he scowled and shook his fist.

"I'll get you one of these days, Yugo! Mark my words!"

In his office, Roget scowled as the live feed was cut.

"Pathetic. Tell Officer Trudge he has been relieved of duty, and that he will report to the relocation center tomorrow."

"Yes sir," replied one of his aides before they walked away. Roget was just about to get up and leave before an alert came in on his computer.

"What's this? Dimensional transport energy? Could it be…no, they wouldn't…but best to be safe…"

He pressed the button on his desk to start the intercom.

"Mina, dispatch a squad of officers to Sector B-Alpha, immediately."

"Yes, sir!"

Roget sat back down, resting his chin on his hands.

"And so it begins…"
