Chapter 1: Heorot:
Beowulf's POV:
The story actually begins with Hrothgar, king of the Danes.
"Be careful with that," says Hrothgar, "soon, my warriors, Heorot will be finished!"
. . .
Heorot was then completed, and Hrothgar celebrated with his wife and the warriors. They sang and dance, but then a monster attacked! It was Grendel, a troll like monster that is said to be descended from the biblical Cain. The sounds of joy bring pain to him. Grendel attacks the hall and kills and devours many of Hrothgar's warriors while they sleep. Hrothgar and his people, helpless against Grendel, abandon Heorot.
. . .
That was when I came in. My name is Beowulf. I'm from Geatland. I heard about the King's troubles, so I decided to speak with him myself.
"Your majesty," I said to my king, "with your permission, I would like to travel to Heorot to speak with King Hrothgar!"
"Very well, Beowulf," says the King.
"Beowulf, are you sure about this," asks Olwette.
"I'll be fine," I said.
. . .
I then traveled to Heorot.
