Chapter 9: Families:
Carter's POV:
We drove to my parents' place. "You know, after flying, driving a car just seems... boring," says Kendra.
"Well, we couldn't fly here," I said, "we could risk... everything."
"True," says Kendra, "so, your brothers are also superheroes, your mom just works at home, and your dad... hates superheroes!"
"Yep," I said.
"And your bothers are always arguing because Hank is a fighter and Don doesn't believe in violence," says Kendra.
"You win a brand-new car," I said.
"Okay, I got this," says Kendra.
. . .
We were having dinner with my family.
"So, Kendra, what did Carter do to win you over," asks Hank.
"He just swept me off my feet," says Kendra, "what can I say? When I'm around him, I could fly!"
Hank and Don look at me and I mouthed that Kendra was Hawkgirl. Hank and Don then get it.
"So... anyone hear of Hawkman's new partner," asks Don.
"Just what the world needs," says Dad, "another vigilante! As if we didn't get enough like Green Lantern, Vixen, Batman, Robin, Hawkman, I mean, what's next?"
"Don't forget about Hawk and Dove," says Hank.
"How could I forget about those two," asks Dad, "and believe me, I try."
"I think Hawkman needs someone like Hawkgirl," I said.
"I just worry Hawkgirl might steal the spotlight," says Kendra.
"I'm sure he'd be willing to share," I said.

The next night, I got to meet Kendra's family.
"So, what do you do for a living, Carter," asks Michael Saunders.
"I collect ancient rare treasures," I said.
"That's interesting," says Trina Saunders.
"Have you found anything from the Cheyenne Tribe," asks Stella.
"So far, just Ancient Egyptian stuff," I said.
"Those Egyptians knew how to party," says Cyril.
"But I did read about the old west," I said, "like these two cowpokes... Nighthawk and Cinnamon!"
"They were friends of my Father's," says Stella.
Stella's Story:
Once, my Father, Jonah Hex was chasing after the criminal, Gentleman Jim, with the help of Nighthawk and Cinnamon. Gentleman Jim was holding my Mother hostage and demanded her people give him their treasures. My Father and his friends came and stopped him, and Nighthawk and Cinnamon killed him, but Gentleman Jim declared he would come back one day! My Father was not a handsome man, but my Mother fell for him anyway.
Carter's POV:
"I think I will start looking for Cheyenne artifacts," I said.
. . .
We headed back to the car. "So, think we'll ever see that Gentleman Jim," I asked.
"Maybe he's reincarnated into someone," says Kendra.
. . .
We were back at my place. "Do you think our lives will ever be normal," asks Kendra.
"I think... Normal's overrated," I said.
We then kissed.
