The first rays of the morning sun filtered through the dusty windows of the old schoolhouse, casting long shadows over Y/N as he slept on an old, dirty mattress on the floor. The room was sparse and uninviting, filled with cobwebs and dust. The only sign of life in the entire building was the room used by the Occult Research Club (ORC), a place Y/N had yet to explore.
As Y/N stirred and sat up, feeling the stiffness in his body, a memory flashed in his mind—a memory of his master's final words.
"There are forces out there that will see you as nothing more than a speck of dust. Never think you're the strongest."
The words echoed in Y/N's mind as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. Those were some of the last things his master had said before he died, and they lingered with him, a constant reminder of the vast world beyond his understanding.
"Man, this mattress sucks... Note to self: when I have enough money, get a new one, and maybe a bed frame too," Y/N muttered, pushing the memory aside. His dorm wasn't much—just a bed, a bathroom, and a small area for kitchen supplies. He headed to the bathroom, turning on the shower as he glanced at his reflection in the mirror. "Alright, Y/N, you've never been to school before, but it can't be that hard. Probably filled with training, like what my master called 'math.' Bet it's a super intense form of training," he chuckled, brushing his teeth before stepping into the shower.
After finishing his shower, Y/N grabbed his backpack, which he had been using as a pillow. "Master said I'd need this... Wonder why? Maybe they'll give us weights to put in them," he mused as he slung it over his shoulder and headed to the door. Exiting his dorm, Y/N wandered through the old school building, curiosity tugging at him. He considered exploring more but decided against entering the ORC room out of respect. Instead, he made his way to the main building, where he saw a large group of students heading inside.
"Man, there sure are a lot of people here... None of them look that strong either, what a shame," Y/N muttered as his stomach grumbled. "This is going to be a long day," he sighed, following the crowd into the school.
As Y/N looked around, a bell rang, startling him for a moment before his curiosity took over again. The halls buzzed with activity, students hurrying to their classes. As he wandered, a girl with short black hair in a bob cut and violet eyes approached him. The moment he laid eyes on her, he felt it—a strong, demonic aura radiating from her that made his blood boil with excitement, an urge to challenge her surging within him, even if he knew he might lose.
"Aren't you supposed to be in class?" she asked.
Y/N looked at her, puzzled. "What's a class? Is that where you do training?" he replied, then added with a smile, "Also, I'm new here. Pleased to meet you, I'm Y/N."
Souna, though slightly taken aback, responded with a polite smile. "Ah, you must be the new student. I'm Souna Shitori. It's a pleasure to meet you. If you'd like, I can give you your schedule and a tour of the building."
Y/N nodded, grateful. As they walked, Souna asked, "So, what brings you here, Y/N?"
Y/N casually placed his hands behind his head. "Well, after my master died, he told me to come here and that everything would be taken care of," he said, gazing up at the ceiling.
Souna raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "You must mean your guardian, right?"
Y/N shrugged. "I guess you could call him that. I just called him 'master.'"
As the tour continued, Souna realized Y/N had never been to a school before and thought he was there to fight people. Amused, she explained the basics of subjects like math, science, English, and history. Y/N caught on quickly, so she didn't need to go into much detail.
"Man, this sucks! I thought school was somewhere I could train!" Y/N exclaimed, frustrated.
Souna chuckled. "You're an interesting person, Y/N. Well, that concludes our tour. It's about time for the bell to ring, so congrats you didn't have any classes today. Oh, I forgot to ask, where do you live? If it's a long walk, I could suggest getting a bike or something."
"Oh, I live in the old schoolhouse. My master set it up for me," Y/N replied.
Souna looked surprised. "How interesting... Well, best of luck to you. If you ever need my help, I'll be in the Student Council room," she said before walking away.
"Man, what a nice lady. I'm kind of bummed this place isn't for training... Oh well, I'll do that on my own time. She was super strong, though. I wish I could fight her one day," Y/N muttered as he walked back to the old schoolhouse. "I need food, too. I think I have enough money to get something... I think I saw some ramen place on the way here. My master used to make the best."
As Y/N approached the old schoolhouse, he noticed a few people gathered in front of the door, each radiating that same demonic aura he felt from Souna but 2 of there auras felt strange. Among them was a tall woman with long onyx-colored hair and violet eyes what his master would've called "GIANT MELONS, GIVE ME DEATH BY SNU SNU." Next was a slim man with blond hair and blue eyes, and lastly, a short, cute girl with white hair and gold eyes. Y/N blood boiled again at the thought of fighting one of them or hell all 3 even though Y/N knew that even if he fought one of them he would lose.
"Yo," Y/N greeted them as he approached.
The blond-haired boy, Kiba, responded, "Hello, I'm Kiba. Is there something you need?"
Y/N looked at him for a second before replying, "Nope, but could you move, please? I left my wallet in my dorm, and I'm starving."
Kiba looked confused for a moment but then stepped aside. "Thank you. You said your name was Kiba, right?" Y/N asked.
Kiba nodded.
"I'll keep that in mind. I'll be looking to see you guys later, especially you, cutie," Y/N said, winking at Koneko. He wasn't a pervert like his master, but his master had taught him something important: if you ever see something you want, make it yours. His master had said that after sneaking into the women's side of a bathhouse.
The group exchanged glances as Y/N walked into the old schoolhouse. He heard them walking behind him but realized they were just heading into another door the ORC room.
"Oh, they must be part of that club. Maybe I'll check it out when I get back," Y/N thought to himself.
As Y/N wandered the streets of Kuoh, he came across a cozy ramen place and decided to eat there. The meal was surprisingly affordable, and he shocked the staff with how much he ate. All in all, it was a pleasant evening the staff were friendly, and the food was delicious. Satisfied, Y/N made his way back to his dorm room.
When he reached the old school building, he noticed that the lights were still on, indicating that the ORC members were likely still there. He was surprised by this, considering how late it was.
Entering the old schoolhouse, Y/N quietly made his way to his dorm, careful not to disturb whatever activities the ORC members were engaged in. Once in his room, he changed into his training gi and began a simple workout pushups, pullups, and sit-ups. After finishing his exercises, he took another quick shower.
Afterward, Y/N removed the top part of his gi and stuffed it, along with his uniform, into his backpack to use as a makeshift pillow. Before settling down to sleep, he took out a small, strange ball with four stars on it from his backpack. Holding it close, Y/N took a deep breath and said, "Well, Master, I think I did pretty good on my first day, and I'm kind of excited for my second. Good night, Master." With the ball held close to his chest, Y/N lay down and drifted off to sleep.
