Chapter 86
The Three Cupids
The next morning I found myself walking towards the Fairy Tail Guildhall in the aftermath of the Flower Viewing Festival. The town of Magnolia was now back to its original state with not a decoration to be seen like it was just a dream. I was a bit disappointed to have the celebration come and go, but at the same time, I was happy to see everything back to how it was before.
I was now making my way to the guildhall with the hopes of going out on a job to earn some jewel. As I walked along, I couldn't help but be in a good mood. It didn't even matter if some people were glaring because of who I was. I couldn't help but feel happy.
I soon came up to the guildhall` and passed through the doors entering the welcoming atmosphere that was Fairy Tail. As I walked in, I immediately took notice of a certain blonde sitting with Natsu and Happy. I then went to their table.
"Hey, Lucy. Good to see you," I greeted.
Lucy looked up and smiled. "Hi, Willy. How's it going?"
"That's what I was gonna ask you," I replied. "Last time I checked, you were sick in bed and haven't seen you since yesterday."
"She was, but she's gotten over her cold now," grinned Natsu. "Right, Luce?"
"Yup. I'm as good as new," Lucy said. "Although I wish I could have been there with you guys yesterday."
"Well, you had a cold. There's no helping that," said Happy. "We're just glad that your back."
Then suddenly there was a loud slam from the front doors that caused us to jump in surprise. The cause of that was none other than Makarov and Erza who had just come through the doors. Makarov was furious while Erza stood beside him trying to remain neutral.
"ALRIGHT! WHICH ONE OF YOU NUMBSKULL'S UPROOTED THE CITY'S PRICED CHERRY TREE?!" Makarov yelled. "THE MAYOR'S BEEN BREATHING DOWN MY NECK ALL MORNING! WHEN I FOUND OUT WHO DID IT, YOU'RE GONNA WISH I'D KICK YOU OUT OF THE GUILD ONCE I'M DONE WITH YOUR SORRY HIDES! NOW WHO DID IT?!"
I couldn't help but be a bit surprised seeing the Master this angry. Then again, uprooting the cherry tree was a pretty big deal which also made me wonder who would do something like that. Then I looked Natsu and Happy. The two of them were now trembling with fear sweating buckets in their chairs. I then put two and two together and figured it out who the culprits were. I then heard Lucy giggle as she wrapped her arm around Natsu's shoulder and placed a hand on Happy's head giving it a tussle.
"Thanks, you guys," she said.
"Um... uh... what are you thanking us for?" Natsu spoke nervously.
"Yeah! We didn't do anything!" squeaked Happy. "Nothing at all! We swear!"
Lucy could only laugh. "Sure you didn't. But... if I were you, I'd get going while the getting's good. Otherwise, Master'll put you through quite the punishment."
Natsu and Happy then slowly got up from their seats and then tried to sneak out of the guild without being noticed. As they left, I sat down at the table with Lucy watching the two sneak away.
"How much you wanna bet that those two are gonna end up getting found out?" smirked Lucy.
"I would be surprised if those two got away scot-free," I said resting my head on my hand. "I don't even get why those two even did something that in the first place.
"Oh, I think I know," said Lucy. "They uprooted the tree because of little old me."
I then looked at Lucy feeling a bit puzzled and surprised. Then Lucy explained as she looked towards the ceiling wistfully.
"You see, in the middle of the night, I saw the uprooted cherry tree. But it was floating along the canal in a boat. I gotta admit, it sure was beautiful. Even though I didn't go to the party... I still got a chance to see the cherry blossoms glow. It was so beautiful."
"And... you think Natsu and Happy did that? For you? You're kidding..."
I couldn't help but feel completely dumbfounded. It also made me feel somewhat confused. Why would Natsu do something so reckless for Lucy? I understand that it was to cheer her up due to her missing the festivities the other day, but still, it didn't make any sense to me.
"Willy? Is something wrong?"
I then snapped out of my confusion and smiled at Lucy. "Sorry. I'm fine. I was just surprised that Natsu would do something that insane."
"Well, that's Natsu for you," said Lucy. "He always has a habit of going overboard in whatever he does. Even if he's doing a favor for a friend." Then she stood up from her seat. "Anyway, I better go find Natsu and Happy. They're probably gonna want someone to lean on if they ever get found out by Master or Erza. See you later, Willy."
"Oh. Bye Lucy."
And then Lucy left leaving sitting by myself at the table. As I sat there, I still couldn't help but feel some confusion as to what Lucy told me. I knew that Natsu cared deeply about us when it came to the guild, but hearing that made me think that he cared more about Lucy than anyone else.
"Does Natsu really care for Lucy that much? Or is it something else entirely?"
"Hey, Willy~"
I then jumped at the sound of the voice looked to my right and saw Lisanna smiling mischievously.
"Geez, Lisanna! You surprised me!"
"Sorry, couldn't resist," Lisanna said with a wink as she sat down in front of me. "But what's up with you, Willy? You look deep in thought."
"I was just thinking," I replied. "Nothing for you to worry about."
"Say, did you hear about what happened to the cherry tree?" asked Lisanna. "The whole town's been going nuts about it."
"Yeah. I know. Makarov's was throwing a fit not too long ago," I said. "And boy did he look mad."
"Yup. You don't wanna mess with the master when he gets angry," smiled Lisanna. "But never mind that. You know who was the one who did it?"
"Let me take a wild guess. Natsu and Happy, right?"
Lisanna then pouted. "Aww. You already know? I was hoping that you would at least try and guess."
I then chuckled. "Well, Lucy kinda just told me about it not too long ago. Besides, it was kind of obvious. Natsu and Happy didn't exactly do a good job hiding their crime." Then I had a thought. "Say Lisanna, I was wondering. Why do you think Natsu would go through such an extreme like that for Lucy's sake? I mean... I understand that Lucy's a friend of his, but still..."
Lisanna stared at me. Then she erupted in a fit of giggles which puzzled me.
"It figures that you wouldn't understand, Willy. After all, you are a bit shy of brains when it comes to that," she said.
"I'm... not following," I said with a raised brow. "Please explain."
"Isn't it obvious? It's because Natsu's in love with Lucy," Lisanna spoke. "He knew how much Lucy wanted to see the cherry blossoms even though she was sick, so he did what any other person would have done. He uprooted the cherry tree, put it in a boat, and then sent it along the canal so Lucy could see them glow."
"S-Seriously? Natsu did what he did for that reason?" I wondered. "You sure?"
"Oh, come on, Willy. Have a sense for romance," Lisanna said. "Besides, when someone you care or love about has a dream, don't you want to do anything you can to make that person's dream come true?"
I stared at Lisanna a bit taken aback by her question. Truth be told, Then at that moment, Elfman came up.
"Hey Lisanna, Willy. How's it going, you guys?"
"Oh hey, Big Bro Elf," said Lisanna.
"What are you up to?" I asked.
"I was just about to head out on a solo job," said Elfman. "Figured I'd come and say goodbye before I go."
"A solo job? That's a bit surprising," said Lisanna. "You sure you'll be OK on your own, Big Bro?"
"Don't worry about me Sis," smiled Elfman. "I'll be fine. A real man like me needs to go on solo jobs from time to time to test the limits of his power!"
And just to prove it, Elfman flexed his mighty muscles showing off how manly he was. All Lisanna and I could do was nod and accept what he said.
"All right then. You take care, Elfman," I said. "Make sure you're careful."
Elfman answered with a wave and he went on his way. Lisanna then turned back towards me.
"So? What do you say? Don't think I've forgotten."
I then thought about what Lisanna asked me. Then after giving it a few seconds of thought, I spoke.
"Well... truth be told, I've never really thought about doing that. But I would like to if I ever find someone to do that for. It kinda sounds like something you'd read from a fairy tale."
Lisanna then smiled. "That's what I'd thought you'd say, Willy," she said. "So kind and yet so innocent."
"Hey. Are you complimenting me or insulting me?" I spoke feeling insulted.
"No. It's nothing like that," said Lisanna. "I'm just glad that you're still the same little boy that I grew up with as a child. And I'm also glad that I get to talk to you like this. Truth be told, it was lonely without you in the guild back when you were... you know."
I then knew what Lisanna was talking about. No doubt that she was referring to when I was under the control by Brain. The thought alone made me shiver a little and bring up a few bad memories. But I quickly put those memories out of my mind.
"Yeah. I know. I apologize for that," I said. "But I'm here now and that's all that matters, so let's try not to think about the past and focus on the here and now. OK?"
Lisanna nodded. "OK. So, you got any plans today?"
"Not really. I was planning on contacting Finn, Master, and Sieri and then do some reading," I said. "I don't have to go on a job for quite sometime before the rent's due, so not very much. Unless you count reading."
"Aww. How boring," pouted Lisanna. "I would have thought that you'd want to hang out with Mira or something."
"Come on, Lisanna. You know that she's probably busy with work," I said. "Besides, I don't wanna be a bother to her while she's working. In the meantime, I'm gonna head home and write a note to Master. Tell Mira I said hi if you see her."
And with that, I got up from the table and walked away walking until I left the guildhall.
NO POV
Lisanna watched as Willy left the guildhall. As soon as he was gone, she let out a large and exasperated sigh.
"Man! Why the heck is Willy so slow?" I said to herself. "I knew he had no experience about love, but I didn't think it would be this bad. Not to mention that he has no idea about a certain someone's feelings."
"Who are you talking about, Lisanna?" asked a voice. "Who has feelings for a certain someone?"
Lisanna then looked up and saw Cana and Erza who had now appeared next to her.
"Oh. Hey girls," greeted Lisanna. "Don't mind me. I was just mumbling to myself."
"Sure doesn't look like it," said Erza. "You definitely were talking about something. Something about Willy?"
Lisanna then gulped. "Oh! Um... it was nothing! Really! Like I said, I was just rambling!"
Cana then smirked mischievously. "Now we know you're hiding something. Spill the beans, girlie. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to force it out of you."
Lisanna then sighed as she looked around making sure no one was listening. Then while speaking as low as she could, Lisanna told Cana and Erza about Willy and Mira.
"So you're saying that Mira has a crush on Willy?" asked Cana.
"And Willy has no idea about love?" asked Erza.
"That's pretty much the sum of it," said Lisanna.
"Wow. Talk about your one-sided crushes," said Cana. "I knew Willy was innocent, but that that much."
"It's pretty understandable if you think about it," said Erza. "I mean, after all, Willy hasn't exactly had the time to learn about such things. By the way Lisanna, why are you so worried about Willy getting with Mira anyway? This isn't your business after all."
Lisanna was then silent as she looked down at her fingers twidling them.
"Well... I just want Mira to be happy," she said. "I mean... she's always working and she never exactly has had time to be a girl and stuff. Even as a child, she was forced to work hard for me and Elfman. She practically was a workaholic. Then Willy came along and saved her life and she immediately fell for him and even started opening up to him. I've never seen her look so happy. Then... Willy disappeared after we found out his sickness. Before I disappeared due to the Anima, Mira was so sad because she missed Willy so much. I remember seeing her look at the necklace whenever she was alone and she would almost cry. Then Willy came back and when I found out how he returned from Mira, she looked so happy. It's as if all of her sadness was a distant memory. But she's still working hard to the bone and tries to keep her feelings locked up. That's why I want her to at least try and be a girl for once and have some fun once and a while."
"And you think that Willy becoming her boyfriend is the way to do it?" asked Cana thoughtfully.
"I don't know, but it's a start," said Lisanna. "I mean Mira is always busy and needs to have a day off sometimes or at least some time to spend with Willy. I know it sounds selfish and it's none of my business, but still..."
There was a long silence. Then Cana spoke up.
"Alright then. Let's be his cupids then," she said.
"Cupids?" puzzled Lisanna and Levy.
"Yeah. Since those two don't know anything about their feelings for each other, I'm thinking that we could be their cupids and help them whenever they have love problems," suggested Cana. "Granted, Mira already knows a thing or two about love, but Willy's definitely gonna need all the help he can get in that regard, so I suggest we keep it secret from Mira and help Willy in the shadows."
"I like that idea! It sounds like fun!" said Lisanna her eyes sparkling with delight.
"I don't know guys. Do we really know anything about love?" asked Erza. "Besides, shouldn't we just let the two of them sort out their feelings on their own?"
"Oh, come on, Erza. Don't be such a stick in the mud," said Cana. "Besides, think of this as an opportunity to learn some things. Like learning how to get a guy so you can get married?"
Erza then blushed bright pink. "H-Huh?! What are you mean by that?!" she squeaked. "I don't need to learn how to get a guy! Besides, I don't even like anyone!"
"That's funny. I don't recall ever mentioning anyone," Cana smirked mischievously. "Not to mention you're blushing, Erza~"
The redhead blushed even redder than ever, her face as red as her hair. "Sh-Shut up! I'm not blushing!"
Then Mira came up to them. "Well, you three seem to be getting along."
The girls were a bit surprised that Mira showed up seemingly out of nowhere, so they kept quiet about what they discussed.
"Oh! M-Mira! How's it going, Sis?" Lisanna asked.
"Oh, nothing much. I just came over here to see if you girls wanted anything," said Mira.
"In that case, gimme a beer," said Cana. "And make it a big mug, OK?"
"I had a feeling you'd say that, Cana," smiled Mira. "And what about you Lisanna? Erza?"
"I'm OK," replied Lisanna.
"Nothing for me either, thank you," said Erza.
"Alright then. One mug of beer for Cana," said Mira. "I'll be right back."
And then Mira walked away and the girls then resumed their chat.
"Alright. From this moment on, we'll be Willy and Mira's special cupids," whispered Lisanna. "And neither Willy or Mira can know and we won't rest till those two are together!"
"Sounds good to me!" said Cana. "What do you say, Erza?"
Erza looked at Cana and Lisanna the two of which giving them expecting looks on their faces. After a few seconds, she let out a sigh, but she smiled too.
"I guess I suppose I'll help out too," she said. "Besides, this could be a learning experience."
"Alright then! Operation Love Cupid is a go!" squealed Lisanna.
Cana and Erza stared at Lisanna and groaned at how corny the name sounded.
"What? What'd I say?" wondered Lisanna feeling confused.
WILLY'S POV
I soon came back to the apartments and had just gotten back to my room. I then went to my desk and got a piece of paper and quill. I then wrote my letter.
Dear Master, Finn, and Sieri,
I'm writing this letter to you all to let you know some major changes that had happened in my life. But the biggest change is one that might shock even Master. I'm pleased to report that Lisanna, my dear friend that we all presumed to be dead, is alive and well and is with Fairy Tail right now. It turns out that she didn't die after all. She was actually in another world called Edolas, a parallel yet opposite world to ours. We were all so happy that she was alright. And in honor of that, I was hoping that we could all celebrate together by either you coming to visit us or us coming to visit you. It would be great for all of us to get together again like before. Sieri would certainly be happy to see Lisanna again and truth be told, it would be great to see you all again. Please make sure to reply soon and hopefully, I'll see you all again soon.
Sincerely yours,
Willy Falconer
I then had the letter sealed in an envelope and placed it on my desk. I then stretched feeling a bit satisfied.
"Well, guess that takes care of that. Now all I have to do is put it in a mailbox and wait for them to reply. Until then..."
I then looked next to the letter and saw the book that I hadn't finished yet. Since I had plenty of time, I might as well do some reading. After all, I never had a chance to read it. I grabbed the book and sat on my bed and started to read. So far in the book, the main hero was at the enemy's base and was desperately searching for his one love. But I had barely just read a couple of pages when there was a knock on my door. I then placed my book down and walked over to the door opening it. In front of the doorway was the landlady.
"Oh. Ms. Landlady. Is something the matter?"
"Nothing really. I just have a letter for you," said the landlady.
The landlady then handed me the letter and I looked at it. Once again, it didn't have a return address on it. The only words that were written on it were: To Willy Falconer. Urgent.
The landlady then walked off leaving me standing alone in the doorway.
"Do you have any idea who sent it to me?" I called out as she left.
"I don't really know," said the landlady as she disappeared into the stairway. "But I do know that the person who sent it to me was an emissary from the Magic Council."
The Magic Council? Those words made my heart leap a bit. What could they possibly want with me this time? Hopefully, it wasn't something bad. At least it wasn't a random letter like the other one with that symbol. Well, however much I had a bad feeling about it, I knew I had to read it. I then walked back into my room and sat on my bed while looking at the letter. I stared at the letter for about a few seconds until finally I slowly opened it and I took out a note and started reading.
Dear Willy Falconer,
I apologize for not telling you this sooner back when I had the photo of you and your parents, but I didn't have this info at the time. This also may come as a shock to you, but I wanted to let you know as soon as I could. Upon further investigation, I have discovered your mother's and your father's bodies. At the time, I didn't realize that they were your parents, but now I know for sure. We made sure to give them a proper burial at the location written on the paper that came with the note. I only apologize if this seems disrespectful and it also may open up some old wounds, but it wouldn't be right for you not knowing where your parents are even though they are deceased. I only hope that you can find some sort of closure knowing that your parents were given proper respect and a proper burial.
Master Org
I stared at the letter my hands trembling slightly from what I just read. My eyes also began filling up with tears as they trickled down my face. I then felt another piece of paper behind the first paper. I looked and just as the letter said, there was an additional paper that showed the coordinates to where my parents were buried. As I continued to stare at the paper, I continued to let the tears stream down my face.
I also began to remember back when I was little when I saw my Mama's lifeless body. The image still was haunting in my mind and the mere thought of it made me shudder. I stared at the papers in my hands thinking about what I should do. It was great that my parents had proper burials and graves, but I didn't know if I would be OK seeing their graves. Especially now I was feeling better about everything after the Edolas incident. I sat there on my bed staring at the two pieces of paper unaware of the minutes that passed by.
"What should I do? I wanna go see my parents, but... I don't know if I want to... Man... I hate it when I get like this..."
I then looked at my necklace around my neck. I took it out of my shirt and held it in the palm in my hand as it glistened in the light.
"Aquadia... what do you think I should do? What would you do if you if you were in my position? I don't want to deal with my past any more than I already have. What do I do?"
Obviously, no one replied because I was alone. Then I heard a chirping noise coming from outside of the window causing me to look up. Outside, I could see a mother bird taking care of her two baby chicks in her nest. The mother bird fed her young with two worms and the babies eat them happily. That was when I made my decision. I then went over to my desk once again and placed the papers on the desk. Then I got another piece of paper and began to write once again.
Nothing much in this chapter so far.
Right now, I'm trying to decide an anime song to go with the next arc I have in mind.
So I made a poll to help me decide. If you wanna vote, check me out on my Deviantart page: Dragomaster767.
