Chapter 1: Simple Mission Gone Wrong
Location: Los Angeles, California
Date: May 5th, 2028
Time: 10:05 pm
It was a calm and peaceful night as the full moon shined brightly over the destroyed ruins of the city of Los Angeles, which was completely barren and devoid of all life and illuminated over a lone military issued M35A3 6x6 transport truck with a camouflage cargo cover that was steadily driving down a vacant street towards the remains of the once beautiful and glorious American city. Riding inside the M35 were a six man unit of Resistance fighters, which consisted of five teenagers: two boys and three girls all in their mid to late teens and their commanding officer, an African American man in his mid 40's whom was driving behind the wheel as they neared the remains of L.A.
"Is everybody keeping their eyes open?" The African American man asked in a gruff but kind voice as he glanced up to the rearview mirror and noticed how deeply nervous several of the young soldiers under his command were as they attempted to sit as comfortably as they could while holding their military issued Colt M16A4 assault rifles close in the cargo bed.
"Yes Staff Sergeant Everett, the others and I are keeping our eyes peeled for any Tin Cans." One of the young resistance soldiers, a Caucasian teenage boy who appeared to 18 years with stone gray eyes and light brown hair in a buzzcut style answered as he informed his squad's commanding officer, SSgt. Lee Everett that he and his fellow troops were keeping a look out for any Machines that were probably lurking throughout the entire city.
"Heh, excellent answer PFC. Harris." The squad leader, SSgt. Lee Everett stated with a proud grin on his face as he was deeply pleased by the young soldier's professional answer.
"Excuse me SSgt, but what exactly are our orders? Why did HQ send us to Los Angeles?" Another young Resistance fighter, a teenage girl who appeared to be the same age as PFC. Harris, 18 with tan skin, long reddish brown hair in a pony tail and tan brown eyes asked as she and the rest of the squad were curious to why their superiors had sent them to L.A.
"Our orders didn't come from headquarters, Pvt. Parker, they came from South Division. Apparently, at 2030 hours, Commander Baron's people had picked up an SOS signal originating from Baldwin Village and due to her forces spread thin as it is, Baron couldn't risk sending any of her more experienced fighters for a search mission. So...she 'thoughtfully' contacted Capt. Aguilar and 'respectfully' requested that he send a small squad to investigate." Lee answered truthfully as he explained to his men on how South Division had picked up a distress call from human survivors taking shelter in Baldwin Village, which was famously know back in the day as 'The Jungle' and how South Division's strict and no-nonsense leader, Commander Jessica Baron had 'asked' their commanding officer, Captain Miguel Aguilar to send a squad to investigate, as she couldn't spare any of her surviving soldiers for a search and rescue mission, which they instinctually knew would've ended up being a wild goose chase.
"Um, where did the distress signal come from?" The 2nd female resistance fighter, a young Caucasian teenage girl who appeared to 16 with short auburn hair with spiked/trimmed ends and caramel eyes asked as she and the rest of the squad were deeply curious to where the SOS first originated from.
"Baron's people were able to pinpoint the source of the SOS to Hillcrest Drive Elementary School." SSgt. Everett answered as revealed to the young soldiers under his command that Commander Baron's people had traced the distress signal to Hillcrest Drive Elementary School.
"So, what's the call for when we reach the school?" Another young resistance fighter, a teenage boy who also appeared to be 18 years with tan skin, gray dyed hair with white streaks and cobalt blue eyes asked as he and his fellow soldiers were curious to what their orders were after they had reached Hillcrest.
"Our mission parameters are simple: as soon as we reach the school, we're going split up into three teams and search for any survivors...if there are any." Lee answered plain and simple as he explained to his men that once they had arrived at Hillcrest Elementary, they would split up into teams of two to search the school grounds for the survivors who broadcasted the distress call...whilst softly praying that there would be anybody alive for him and his squad to rescue with the five young soldiers hoping the same thing.
"We're going to have to work fast though. Even though the Tin Cans have been reported to be mainly in Downtown, there's a slight chance that some stragglers might be lurking around Baldwin Village." He softly added, stating that they would have to search the school as quickly as they could: as their secured military satellite had detected several Machines patrolling around Baldwin Village.
"What kind of Machines are we talking about Sarge?" PFC. Harris asked as he and his squad mates were curious to what kind of Tin Cans they were expected to encounter.
"Ahh, mostly small fry like Spider Scouts and Scout Drones, nothing that serious." Lee answered truthfully as he revealed to his chalk that the Machines they would probably encounter would be Spider Scouts and Scout Drones; which were the earliest and weakest units ever created by Skynet at the beginning of the War against the Machines.
"What about backup?" The 1st female resistance fighter asked, as she and the rest of her squad were curious what they supposed to do if something went wrong during the mission...and would be left speechless by the answer.
"...There isn't any. We're on our own." SSgt. Everett hesitantly answered as he reluctantly and painfully revealed to his chalk that they wouldn't be receiving any assistance from the other Resistance units throughout California once they had reached Baldwin Village!
"Ohh, that's just great. That's just...That's just fuckin' perfect!" The 2nd male resistance fighter softly muttered in annoyance after hearing how both HQ and South Division expected him and his squad to carry out their mission by themselves without any backup!
"(Tsk) I swear...Baron won't be happy until she kills us herself." PFC. Harris softly muttered with an equally annoyed and angry glare on his face while pointing out Commander Baron's rather unsettling habit of sending the troops under her command on suicide missions.
"That's for sure. That coldhearted bitch seems to think we're all expendable." The 2nd female resistance fighter replied with an equally angry glare as she strongly agreed with both Harris and her other fellow squad mate about the ruthless and seemingly unfeeling commanding officer in charge of South Division.
"Alright, now that's enough. We have a job to do and I need everyone on their game. Is that clear?" Lee automatically stated as he reprimanded his squad for trash talking Commander Baron (even though he couldn't blame them) and reminded them on how they would approaching a battlefield and that he needed all of them to have a clear head.
"Understood Sergeant!" Harris and the other four young resistance fighters cried out in unison before softly glancing back to their fellow teammate: an African American teenage girl who appeared to be either 16 or 17 with light brown skin, curly dark brown that she had tied up in a short ponytail that landed on her her shoulder and tan brown eyes whom had been sitting at the far end on the right side of the cargo bed with a distant look in her eyes.
"Clementine, are you good?" Lee called out again as he glanced at the rearview window and noticed how abnormally silent the 3rd teenage girl on his chalk had been, which snapped her back into her senses.
"Yes, Staff Sergeant. I'm good to go." Clementine replied professionally as she informed her squad leader and teammates that she understood their orders.
"Alright, then." SSgt. Everett stated with a soft smile as he continued to drive the M35 transport truck across the war torn streets of Los Angeles.
"...Clem? Are you sure you're alright?" The 2nd teenage girl softly asked while turning to Clementine, as she was equally concerned by how quiet her friend and fellow resistance fighter had been after they had left their base, which was set up in the remains of San Diego.
"I'm fine Molly. I'm just a little...nervous, I guess. I mean, we just completed our training two weeks ago and we're already being sent into the field." Clem answered truthfully as she admitted to the brunette, Pvt. Molly Ganz, that she was slightly nervous about their current assignment: especially since she and their fellow cadets had just finished their basic survival training and Commander Baron was practically sending them into the meat grinder without any backup from any other Resistance units.
"Relax Clem. It's just a simple search mission: we reach the school, look for the people who sent the SOS and we'll be back at the base in half an hour." The gray haired teenage boy replied casually as he informed Clementine that she was worrying over nothing and stated on how their 'simple' search and rescue mission would be a walk in the park.
"Yeah well, we just hope you're right Bill." The 1st teenage girl replied while scoffing softly at her teammate's, Pvt. Bill Morris's arrogance as she couldn't help but agree with Clementine's concerns about their mission.
"Aw you, Clementine and Molly need to learn to chill out Sarah. Trust me...for all we know, nothing's going to happen." Pvt. Morris countered coolly as he felt that his three female teammates were fretting over nothing and casually pointed out the possibility that they wouldn't even encounter any Machines in Baldwin Village.
"What do you think Clark?" He swiftly asked while turning to PFC. Harris, whom was sitting right beside him on the left side, along with Molly whilst Sarah and Clem sat across from them on the right.
"...I think we'll just need to prepared for whatever we see." Harris answered plainly, showing that he also shared Clem's and Sarah's concerns about their assignment, much to Morris's shock.
"(Tsk) I'm surrounded by a bunch of pussies. AHHH!" Morris muttered softly underneath his breath before crying out in pain after Molly angrily stomped her left foot down on his right foot and Sarah landed a sharp kick to his shin.
"Oh, so sorry. Did that hurt princess?" Both Sarah and Molly sarcastically asked at the same time while Clem and Harris couldn't help but laugh out loud as soon as they heard the nickname the redhead and brunette gave Bill as he massaged his aching foot and leg.
After they had drove down the vacant and war town streets through the ruined remains of Los Angeles for what felt like a whole hour, Lee and his chalk eventually arrived at Baldwin Village and after following the road, they had arrived at their main destination; Hill Crest Elementary School. Once they had found a suitable place to park the M35 transport truck, Clementine and her squad mates had climbed out of the back while Lee climbed out of the cab.
"Alright this is it. Is everyone ready?" SSgt. Everett softly stated as he reached into the cab and took out his own M16A4 assault rifle and asked the five young teenagers if they were mentally prepared before they began their mission.
"Yes Sergeant!" Clem and her squad mates answered at the same time, showing that they ready while preforming disengaging the safety pins to their M-16s and performing a standard brass check so their assault rifles wouldn't jam on them.
"Alright then. Clementine, you and Pvt. Ganz search the left side of the school. PFC. Harris, you and I will search the right. Pvt. Morris, you and Pvt. Parker are on look out. We do this quick and clean and we all make it make it back home alive, together. Hoorah?" Lee swiftly replied as he assigned Clem and Molly to search the left side of the school for any survivors while he and Harris searched the right side whilst assigning Bill and Sarah to stand guard and keeping an eye out for any Machines passing by Baldwin Village.
"Hoorah!" The five teenagers replied professionally, showing that they understood and strongly agreed with their orders.
"Clementine." He softly added which immediately earned the African American teenage girl's attention as both Harris and Ganz stepped inside the school while Morris and Parker stood on the opposite sides of the threshold of the school's main entrance.
"Yes Staff Sergeant?" Clem softly asked, even though she had a rather good idea to what it was her squad leader wanted to tell her.
"...I know you're still nervous about this mission, but there's no need to be sweet pea. As long as we stick to the plan, we'll make it out of here together." Lee softly answered, claiming that he knew she was still worried about something horrible happening as they searched the school for any survivors and reassured her that nothing would happen.
"Dad...I'm alright, really. Let's just find those survivors so we can get the hell out of here." Clementine stated with a soft grin as she addressed her squad leader as her father and reassured him that she was alright to carry out the mission.
"Okay, let's get to it." Lee softly replied with a proud grin, showing that he was convinced his teenage daughter was indeed fine before they joined Ganz and Harris, whom were waiting patiently for them while Parker and Morris were leaning casually against the still standing doors.
Once they had stepped inside and joined their respective partners, Clem and Molly had walked down the corridor on the left side of the school whilst Lee and PFC. Harris headed down the right hallway. As the two teenage girls cautiously and silently walked down the empty hallway with the sound of their own footsteps echoing out, they had thoroughly searched every classroom and much to their good fortune, had found a number of salvageable items they and fellow resistance fighters could use to craft lock picks and pipe bombs. As they continued to search the current classroom they had just entered, Rm. 111 which ironically was World History with Molly going through the teacher's desk and utility closet, Clem had searched the students desks before she suddenly stopped, as she came upon a note written by one of the students and silently read it.
This is totally fucked up. There are Machines everywhere throughout Los Angeles and they're killing every human that cross their path. My folks, kid brother, girlfriend and best bud saw at least three of those...Terminators execute a small group of survivors whom were trying to duck into Sal's Auto Garage...or what was left of it back on Wall Street when we drove past Downtown. Mom had to hold Timmy the entire drive...but Dad and I couldn't blame her: especially since he saw those metal fuckers waste those poor people. There aren't that many places for us to go...and the car is almost out of gas. Dad says the best thing we can do is find a place outside the city for us to hide and hope that someone eventually finds us. That is...tsk, if anyone ever does. ~ Craig
"Clem, you okay?" Molly asked as she noticed her quiet her friend and teammate had been as she finished searching the teacher's desk and closet for anything useful.
"Yeah, I'm alright Molly. I just found this letter from some kid left behind." Clementine answered in all modesty as the brunette walked up towards her and handed her the letter she had just finished reading, which her friend casually accepted.
"Oh my God...things out here are just getting worse every day." Molly muttered softly as she stared deeply shocked after she read the part on how a small kill squad of Terminators had slaughtered a small group of survivors in Downtown...and how the little boy, Timmy had been traumatized after he, his family and the people with them witnessed it.
"Skynet isn't going to stop until it sees all of us dead." Clem softly muttered with a saddened expression on her face while pointing out the rather obvious fact on how the Machines weren't going to be 'satisfied' until they had wiped out what was left the human race.
"...C'mon. We need to keep to looking." Molly stated as she softly placed her hand on Clem's shoulder and reminded her friend/teammate that they still had a job to do.
"Yeah, you're right. Maybe Lee and Clark found something." The young African American teenage girl replied as she agreed with the brunette and hoped that her father and Harris had found something on the right side of the school as they continued to search the classrooms for supplies that their resistance fighters could use to craft improvised weapons.
~Meanwhile with SSgt. Everett and Harris~
As they walked down the right hallway, Lee and PFC. Harris had thoroughly searched the classrooms on the opposite side of the school, looking for any signs of the survivors whom had sent the SOS while collecting as many useful salvageable items as they could find. However, as they searched every classroom...both Lee and Clark couldn't help but frown in deep silence as they searched the Art class room: as they spotted at least six mummified corpses; three adults and three children, possibly early teenagers lying sprawled out across the classroom floor.
"Oh my God." Clark muttered softly as he managed to bring himself to speak after seeing the positions and state of the six mummified bodies.
"Goddamn fucking soulless Machines." Lee softly muttered with a soft glare on his face as he and Harris could see the still horrified expression on one of the mummified corpses, which they fairly guess must've been a teacher: as he or she had feel to the floor on their back and had their arms out...as if he/she pleaded the Terminator standing over them not to shoot but was executed anyway, due to the single gunshot wound to her chest.
Although, as they continued to look at the mummified remains of the three students and teachers, Lee and his 2nd in command had swiftly snapped back to their thoughts: as they glanced over their shoulders and caught a glimpse of someone running right past the Art classroom and down the hallway.
"Hey wait!" SSgt Everett cried out as he and Harris stared shocked before exiting the classroom and spotting the mysterious figure turning right down the main hallway where they, Molly and Clementine first entered the school!
"Who is that?" Clark asked out loud as he and his squad leader gave chase and spotted Clem and Molly running down the parallel hallway with their M16's drawn out!
"Sergeant, Harris! What's going on?" Ganz asked as she and her partner had heard their sergeant shouting and loud footsteps running down the hall echo out after they had searched another vacant/deserted classroom.
"We saw someone, possibly a survivor." Harris answered for his squad leader as he informed Clementine and Molly that he and Lee saw one of the survivors they had been searching for!
"You and the Sarge found a survivor?" Clementine asked as she and Molly turned to each other with eyes widened in surprise.
"Yeah. He ran right down that hall." Clark added while pointing down the main corridor with the two girls glancing in the same direction he was pointing at while hearing the sound of the mysterious figure's footsteps echo out as he ran down the hall.
"What do you think Staff Sergeant? Should we risk going after him?" Molly asked while turning to Lee, wondering if they should risk chasing after the fleeing survivor.
"We should follow him. If he is one of the survivors, he's probably heading back to whoever else is with him." SSgt. Everett answered plainly with Clementine, Ganz and Harris nodding as they trusted his judgement.
"Okay. Let's go." Clark softly stated as he naturally took point with Clem and Molly right behind him and Lee guarding the rear as they ran down the hallway while turning the side mounted tactical lights attached to their M16s on and illuminating the dark hallway.
As they walked down the hallway while cautiously glancing around with their fingers resting carefully on the triggers, Lee and his squad came to an immediate halt: as they heard a soft clanking coming from the boy's Gym locker room and three different voices: two males and a female softly bickering from the closed door.
"Hello! Is anyone in there?" Lee called out as he banged his hand on the closed locker room door while hoping for a response and much to his and squad's relief, there was.
"Whose there?" A male voice demanded from the opposite side of the door.
"We're a rescue team from the Resistance! We picked up your SOS! We came here to rescue you!" Lee answered as he informed the man on the other side of the door that he and his men were with the Resistance.
"A rescue team?! Oh thank Christ! Hold on, I'll open the door!" The man cried out in delight after hearing SSgt. Everett reveal that he and his men were with the Resistance and immediately unlocked the door to the locker room.
As soon he stepped back as Lee opened it and come face to face with a man in his mid 30's, Caucasian with light brown and olive green eyes and spotted a teenage boy, whom was around the same age as Harris and Morris with dirty blonde hair and teal blue eyes standing a few feet behind him holding an aluminum baseball bat tightly in his hands.
"Is that your kid?" SSgt. Everett asked while gesturing to the young boy holding the bat with the brown haired man, whom he fairly assumed was the boy's father glancing over his shoulder.
"Ohh for God's sake Craig, put the bat away. These people are with the Resistance!" The brown haired man stated while groaning softly at his son's foolishness and informing him that the four soldiers were a rescue team sent by the Resistance to help them.
"Sorry Dad." The young boy, Craig softly stated as he reluctantly dropped the bat like his father said and kicked it across the rust covered ceramic tiled floor.
"Sorry about, sir. Please forgive my son. He sometimes acts without thinking." The brown haired man stated as he immediately apologized to Lee for his son's brash behavior while giving him a disappointed look.
"It's alright." Lee softly stated as he assured Craig's father that he and his chalk weren't upset with Craig, especially since they spotted a woman, whom they fairly guessed was his mother who holding a 6 year old boy close to her chest and two other teenagers, a boy and girl whom were sitting on the floor with their backs pressed against the wall outside the teachers/coaches office.
"Are those you family?" He softly asked even though he already knew the answer.
"Yeah, they are. My name is John Andrews. This is my wife Clara and our two boys, Craig and Tim. The girl with us is my son's girlfriend, Becca and the boy is his best friend, Tyson." The man answered with a nod while introducing himself as John Andrews and confirming that the people with him were in fact his family while introducing his wife, Clara and his two his children; Craig and Timmy along with the teenage boy and girl, whom were in fact Craig's best friend and girlfriend.
"It's nice to meet you and family John. I'm SSgt. Everett and this is my..." Lee stated as he introduced himself to John and his family and was about to introduce the three young teenagers under his command before he was immediately cut off: as the military issued ear radio wedged in his left ear came online and softly winced as he heard Morris shouting and the unmistakable sound of gunfire over the radio
"Parker, stay behind cover...Gahh!" Morris cried out as he ordered Sarah to get behind cover before crying out in great pain.
"Bill!" Parker cried out in dismay as she fired another burst of gunfire as Lee, Clementine, Molly and Clark overheard the commotion through their own radios and couldn't help but dread about what happening outside.
"Parker! Morris, come in! What's happening?!" Lee cried out in concern as he contacted Bill and Sarah whilst Clem, Ganz and Harris turned to each other in equal concern as they deeply dreaded on what was happening outside the school.
"Parker! Morris! Respond!" He stated as he and the rest of his chalk heard heavy static interference and immediately tried again and much to his, Clem's, Molly's and Clark's relief...they heard Sarah's voice over the radio.
"Sarge...pant...pant...I'm here." Sarah answered while panting softly over the radio much to her sergeant's and teammates' concern.
"Sarah, what's wrong? Are you hurt?" SSgt. Everett asked while swallowing softly as he and the rest of his team were greatly worried after hearing how worn out Sarah was...along with the pain in her voice as she winced softly over the radio.
"I'm...I'm not that injured Sarge...but Morris is." Parker answered while still panting softly as she assured her teammates and squad leader that she wasn't that seriously injured...while painfully revealing that Bill was!
"Have...Have you and the others found anyone in the school?" She softly asked while taking in deep breathes to control her breathing.
"Affirmative. We located six survivors hiding out in the school's locker room and we're on all our way back to you and Morris." Lee answered as he informed Parker that he and the rest of their team had found six civilians and were heading back to the main hallway to make their exfil and heard a short burst of gunfire and a small explosion erupt out over the radios.
"Uhhh, please hurry. Morris and I...we're running out of ammo." Sarah muttered weakly as she begged her squad to hurry while stating that she and Bill were running out of ammo for their M16s.
"Hold on! We're coming!" Clark cried out over the radio as he, Lee, Clementine and Molly just knew by the way that Sarah panting/breathing and how weak she sounded...that she no doubtingly badly wounded.
As soon as they broke contact and immediately got John and his family, Becca and Tyson to get out of the locker room and promising that they would protect them, Lee and his squad had ran down the corridor back to the lobby with the six survivors right behind them...and skidded to a quick stop and stared/gasped in shock and horror: as they spotted the remains/components of numerous destroyed Spider Scouts and Scout Drones that laid scattered on the front steps outside the threshold...along with Morris, whom was sitting on the floor with his back against the left wall, dead; with a deep gash around his right and left ankles and a massive cauterized wound with 1st degree burns to his lower stomach.
"...Oh my God." Molly softly muttered in sadness as she and Clem covered their mouths with their hands after seeing their friend and teammate, whom was now dead.
"Ohhh Bill." Clark softly muttered with an equally saddened look on his face, especially since he and the gray haired boy had become close friends during their time in basic training.
"...Sarah." Clem softly stated as she, Molly, Clark and Lee also saw Sarah, who was sitting right beside Bill's lifeless corpse and holding/pressing her right hand over her waist with blood covering her fingers and much to their relief, she was still alive as her chest was lightly moving.
"...pant...pant...H-Hey guys. Glad you could...could make it." The redhead muttered softly with a weak smile as she struggled to stay conscious even though she could feel what little strength she had left was slipping away.
"...Sarah, what happened after Clem, Harris, Ganz and I left you and Morris to search the school?" Lee softly stated as he knelt down beside Sarah and asked on what happened while he, Clementine, Molly and Clark had searched the school for supplies before eventually finding the Andrews family and the two other people with them.
"...pant...pant...Short...Shortly after you and the others...separated to search the school, an Aerial HK had passed along with a huge group of Scout Drones and Spider Scouts. At first...the Machines didn't see us, but eight Drones and six Spiders that were lagging behind eventually saw us. We tried to hold out as best as we could...but they overwhelmed us. The Drones kept moving...distracting us long enough for the Spider Scouts to get close and blast us with their...electric...electric shocks." The dying redhead answered softly with tears slowly building in the corner of her eyes as she revealed to her friends and teammates on what had happened while they searched the school: how an Aerial Hunter Killer had flown by with a huge squad of Scout Drones and Spider Scouts following it on the ground...and how they were unfortunately spotted and relentlessly attacked by several stragglers that had fallen behind before she gave one final breathe as she slowly closed her eyes with her head tilting to ground whilst Lee, Clem, Clark and Molly somberly closed their eyes and bowed their heads in respect...along with John, his family and the two teenagers with them as they witnessed Sarah slowly die right in front of her friends/teammates.
"You and Morris will be avenged, Sarah." Lee stated as he promised both Sarah and Bill that he and their fellow Resistance would avenge their untimely deaths with Clem, Harris and Ganz nodding their heads in agreement as he collected their dog tags and handed them to his 2nd in command for safe keeping, which he accepted and placed in his right pants pocket.
"...C'mon. We need to get these people to safety." He softly added as he informed Clementine, Molly and Clark that they needed to complete their mission.
"What about Bill and Sarah?" Clem softly asked.
"...Clem, believe me that the last thing I want to do is leave Morris and Parker here. But right now, getting these civilians to safety is our..." Lee softly started off, showing that he didn't want to leave Bill's and Sarah's bodies behind before he was cut off.
"I'll help you carry them." John softly stated as he volunteered to carry and load Sarah's and Bill's bodies into the truck.
"Mr. Andrews, that's very generous, but..." SSgt. Everett stated as he and the rest of his troops were caught off guard by John's offer to help carry Bill and Sarah into the truck.
"Hey, you and your men risked your lives to save me and family. It's the least I can do." John automatically countered as he wanted to repay Lee and his remaining soldiers for saving him and his family.
"Craig, help with the boy. I've got the girl." He added as he turned to his son and ordered him to help carry Bill while he carried Sarah.
"Alright, pop. Ty, give me a hand." Craig stated as he turned to Tyson, whom nodded in agreement as they walked up to Bill's lifeless body, picked him up and threw his arms around their shoulders while John knelt down and lifted Sarah's body off the ground as he carried her bridal style.
After John, Craig and his best friend had lifted Bill and Sarah off the ground, they followed Lee and his remaining soldiers as they exited the main entrance with Clara, whom was still holding Timmy in her arms and Becca right behind them. Once outside Lee, Clem, Harris and Ganz had led John and his family down the stone steps while stepping over the parts/components of the destroyed Scout Drones and Spider Scouts to the M35 transport truck: where Clara placed Timmy on the ground before climbing into the back of the truck and sitting down on the bench on the left side of the cargo bed with her six year old boy sitting right beside her after Becca lifted him up and climbed in herself and sat down across from them. As soon as Clara, Timmy and Becca boarded the truck and were seated, Clark had climbed in and assisted John as they placed Sarah's body into the truck...and instinctively covered her body with a dirty camouflage canvass that they kept underneath the right bench.
As Clark and John loaded Sarah's lifeless body in the truck, Lee, Clem and Molly had stood guard with their M16's ready as they kept a sharp lookout for any other Machines whilst Craig and Tyson glanced around anxiously as waited for his father and Harris to finish so they could load Bill's body into the transport truck as well. However...as they waited, that was when something truly...unexpected happened: as a squad of 13 Scout Drones that had been flying high in the night sky slowly descended with their sole optical eyes glowing crimson red.
"Oh, shit...Sarge! Clem! We've got incoming!" Molly cried out while glancing to her friend and squad leader, whom stared just as surprised as the brunette the moment they spotted the 12 medium sized drones that were slowly and steadily advancing towards them.
"Sweet Jesus!/Oh fuck!" Craig and Tyson cried out as they also saw the small army of Scout Drones that were slowly approaching the transport truck.
"Hey, don't either of you even think about running!" Lee immediately exclaimed while swiftly glancing back to the two teenage boys and giving them a stern look as he instantly knew that Craig and Tyson were thinking about running, which luckily caused them to pause in their tracks.
"Clem, Ganz! Wait for them to get close enough and aim directly for their eyes: that's their main weakness! And remember to make your shoots count; we don't have that many mags on backup." He swiftly added while turning back to the two teenage girls as he reminded them to only shoot the Scout Drones in their eyes; which was their weak spot before he leveled the iron sight of his M16 with his right eye and fired a burst of 5.56mm bullets, that struck one of the advancing Drones and severely damaged its metal chassis!
"Roger that Sergeant!" Both Clem and Molly cried out as they understood their orders and immediately followed their sergeant's lead: as they took precise aim and fired a small burst of rounds at the medium sized Machines, which struck two of the Drones directly in their red glowing 'eye' and severely damaged their weak armor as sparks flew out and their chassis caught on fire!
As the two teenage girls continued to open fire on the small army of Scout Drones and luckily shot down the first two, they witnessed Lee shoot down two Drones himself before they swiftly knelt down to reload their M-16's after their current magazines ran dry. However...as soon as they had reloaded their assault rifles and stood up to continue fighting, Clementine had stared and gasped in surprise/shock as Molly had unexpectedly cried out in pain: as one of the Drones had fired a jolt of electricity from its main prod like weapon that struck the brunette on the left side of her waist!
"Molly!" Clem cried out in alarm while unleashing a hail of medium caliber bullets that severely damaged the Drone and forced it slowly back away...before exploding after Ganz finished it off after firing a short burst of rounds from her assault rifle!
"Gah...I'm alright Clem. Just focus on the fight!" Ganz stated as she assured her friend and squad mate that she wasn't that seriously injured whilst wincing softly in pain as she automatically placed her hand on her left side of her stomach/waist: as the raw electricity from the Drone's weapon burned through her clothing and left a nasty 1st degree burn on her skin.
"Ganz, is right Clementine! You need to stay focused on the battle!" Lee automatically replied as he reminded his teenage daughter that he and Harris needed her focused on the fending off the Machines as he swiftly shifted aim and fired a burst of rounds that luckily shot down and destroyed another Scout Drone!
"...Alright." The young African American teenage softly replied as she did as her squad leader and teammate asked and swiftly unleashed another small hail of bullets that damaged and destroyed another advancing Drone, followed by Ganz; whom slowly recovered and shot down another Drone whilst panting and wincing softly in pain as she firmly placed her left hand over her wound.
"Craig, what the hell are you and your friend standing around for?! Get Morris into the truck and get your asses in there as well!" Lee demanded in an agitated tone as he noticed how John's teenage son and Tyson had pressed themselves against the right side of the M35 the moment the Drones started attacking and ordered them to load Bill's body into the heavily armored transport truck while swiftly reloaded his M-16 and unleashing another hail of bullets that severely damaged and destroyed another Drone!
"Don't need to tell us twice...dickhead." Craig softly muttered underneath his breath as he and Tyson shared an annoyed glance with each other before they got out from behind cover and rushed over to the back of the 6x6, where his father assisted them in lifting Bill up by underneath his armpits and softly placing him next to Sarah's body whilst he and Tyson climbed into the truck and sat down next to Becca across from his mother and younger brother and witnessed Harris rush out to assist his teammates with the remaining four Drones.
"Sarge, behind you!" Harris cried out as he a caught of glimpse one of the Scout Drones attempting to sneak up on his sergeant as he was preoccupied with the Drone that he was attempting to shoot down and was preparing to shock him with its prod like weapon...but thankfully never got the chance: as he swiftly fired two short burst of rounds that struck the Drone and ripped through its weak armor; causing sparks to fly and its prod like weapon to short-circuit before it ultimately exploded and crashed onto the hard concrete!
"Thanks for the quick save, PFC. Harris." Lee stated with a soft grin as he thanked Clark for his swift reflexes as he shot down and destroyed the 2nd remaining Scout Drone that desperately attempted to stay airborne before it fell to the ground with its chassis blazing on fire and exploding shortly afterwards.
"Anytime." Harris replied with a casual smirk as he and his squad leader turned and smiled as they witnessed Clementine and Ganz shoot down the remaining two Drones.
"Is that...the last the last of them?" Molly asked while panting softly.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure that we got them all Ganz." Lee replied with a soft nod, confirming that they had destroyed every single Scout Drone with a soft grin...which slowly changed into a look of concern: as he, Harris and Clem noticed the deep breathes that Molly had been taking as she held her hand to her waist.
"Molly, you okay? That hit you took is pretty nasty." Clementine asked as she was deeply worried about her friends wound.
"Y-Yeah, I'm alright Clem. Nothing that the medics back at base can't..." The brunette replied with a soft grin on her face as she assured her friend and teammate that her wound wasn't that life threatening...before stopping in mid-sentence: as her squad leader automatically raised his right arm up.
"Everyone, shh." Lee stated as he ordered Clem, Harris and Ganz to be quiet as possible...as they heard something rather peculiar: multiple heavy footsteps echoing out.
"What the hell is that?" Harris asked while whispering as softly as he could as he and his two remaining teammates turned to each other with frightened expressions on their faces: as they glanced towards the road on the left side of the school where the footsteps echoed out from and eerily grew louder...and stared in great shock/horror once they saw where the footsteps came from: a small kill squad of four T-800 Terminators armed with R95 plasma rifles.
"Oh, my God..." Clark muttered softly while Molly whimpered softly in fear as she held her hand to her side.
"Terminators." Clem stated softly as she and her remaining friends/squad mates immediately identified the intimidating humanoid like Machines...and stared/gasped in horror as the T-800's somehow spotted them and immediately opened fire!
"FUCK! GET DOWN!" Lee cried out as he ordered his daughter and remaining two soldiers to duck for cover, which Clem, Clark and Molly automatically did without hesitation!
"Lee, what do we do?!" Clem cried out as she turned to her squad leader with exasperated look on her face as she, Harris and Ganz glanced upwards and stared in shock as they saw the hail of red plasma bolts passing over them and much to their fortune, had hit nothing and more importantly, missed the truck!
"Get on the truck! Get on the truck, now!" Lee answered as he ordered his three remaining soldiers to climb into the truck: as they all knew that their assault rifles and any other weaponry they had were practically useless against Terminators!
"Yes, sir!" Harris, Clem and Ganz cried out as they broke into a fast run and sprinted towards the M35 as quickly as they could while skillfully avoiding the unrelenting plasma bolts the T-800's unleashed upon them!
As they avoided the continuing hail of red plasma bolts, Clementine had climbed into the back of the truck first and helped Molly, as she pulled her up by her right hand, much to the brunette's gratitude while Harris ran along the right side of the truck and climbed into driver's side of the cab. However...as soon as the two teenage girls had boarded the truck, they stared in great shock and horror: as one of the T-800's had took precise aim and fired a single and precise plasma bolt...which struck and passed right through Lee's lower stomach!
"SARGE!/LEE!" Ganz and Clem cried out in horror as they saw the look of shock in their sergeant's/squad leader's eyes as he nearly tripped over his feet before bracing himself straight on the back on the truck...and coughing out a mouthful of blood, that deeply alarmed them, John and his family!
"C'mon Sarge! You can make it!" Molly cried out as she implored her gravely wounded sergeant to climb onto the truck as he panted/wheezed softly.
"Dad! Dad, give me your hand! You can do it!" Clem added after her friend/teammate as she rushed over to her father and held out her hand to help pull him onto the truck...which he weakly/softly accepted and much to hers and Ganz delight, he managed to climb in.
"Clark, Sarge is hit! Get us the fuck out of here!" Molly cried out as she informed Harris that Lee had been injured and ordered him to get them back to their base while banging her hand on the back of the cab!
"Fuck. Alright, everyone hang on tight! We're outta here!" Clark softly muttered, as he was deeply shocked after hearing that SSgt. Everett had been seriously wounded and ordered Clem, Molly, John and his family to brace themselves as he turned the key that Lee had left in the ignition on and pressed his foot down hard as he drove the M35 transport truck down the war torn streets as fast as it could with the T-800's still firing in their direction before they soon stopped.
A/N: There it is everyone, here is the 1st chapter to my new Walking Dead/Terminator crossover. I had previously planned to have the first chapter posted before Christmas...but I felt that it would've been better if I had saved it for New Years. I would also like to apologize if the first chapter seems lacking in details or beating around the bush. It was the best that I could do with what I could think of at the time. Anyway, Happy News years and welcome to the beginning of 2024! Until, next time bye!
