Chapter 122
Remembering Problems
WILLY'S POV
After a while, I finally felt well enough to get out of the hospital and was released. I was now wearing a plain green t-shirt with a pair of shorts with bandages wrapped around my legs and my arms. The doctor insisted that I stayed a little bit longer to rest, but Macao reassured him that I was okay and would take care of me. After we went to the hospital, the other members that were there went back to the guildhall, while Macao and Wakaba stayed with me as the three of us took a walk around town.
The three of us then continued walking along the streets. As we did, I couldn't help but take in the scenery of the town. It seemed like an excellent place to live. It was thriving with many people, and the atmosphere seemed pleasant. I couldn't help but let out a sound of amazement.
"This sure is a nice town you guys got here," I said. "Where exactly is this?"
"This is Magnolia, and you live here too, you know," said Wakaba. "Man, you did lose all of your memories again, didn't you? You sure you don't remember anything?"
I then took a minute to think as I felt my head with my hand. "Well... this place does seem to be vaguely familiar now that you mention it. I mean I kind of remember that this is the town where I live, but anything beyond that is all murky for me."
"Well, you shouldn't try and push yourself considering that you're still plenty banged up in mind and body," said Macao. "Wakaba and I will take you home, so that you can go ahead and rest up for a little while.
We soon arrived at a building close by a canal. The building itself seemed to be a two-story house that was red, and had a brown roof that slopped with two chimneys on top of it.
"So what's this place?" I wondered. "Some apartment?"
"Yep. This is where you've been living," said Macao.
"No way. You must be pulling my leg," I spoke with a hint of surprise. "I live in a fancy place like this one? Wow, I must have really lucked out."
"Well, I did hear that Lucy hooked you up with this place, so I guess that's one way of looking at it," said Wakaba. "To be honest, this is the first time I've seen this place myself."
"Me too," said Wakaba. "Got to say, even I think this is a nice place."
At that moment, someone came walking out of the building. It was a little old lady that was stout, had purple hair, wore a red dress and high heels, and had a long boa around her neck. As soon as she saw me, she was delighted.
"Ah! Willy! How are you, my boy?" the woman greeted with a smile.
I looked at the woman feeling a bit puzzled.
Then Macao stepped in. "Excuse me, Ma'am, but are you the landlord of this building?"
"Of course I am," said the woman. "Is there something that I can help you boys with?"
"Actually, we were wondering if you help us with something," said Wakaba. "Willy lives here, right? So, therefore, you must have the key to his room."
"Yes, and your point being?" the stout woman asked with a raised brow.
"Well, we were hoping that you would take Willy up to his room," said Wakaba. "We don't exactly have a key to his room, but you most likely do."
"Why would I do that when Willy could just walk in?" asked the woman. "He's got a key, don't he?"
"Well... actually, ma'am, I'm not sure if I do have a key," I said. "Well... I didn't even know that I lived here until these two told me about it."
"Willy? Are you alright in the head?" asked the woman. "You seem a little out of it."
"It's a bit complicated, but all we can tell you is that his brain's a little bit scrambled right now," said Wakaba. "So we were kind of hoping that you would take him to his room so he could rest up."
"Well, if it's for one of my tenants, I can do that," said the woman. "Come with me, Willy. I'll show you where your room is."
"Thank you very much, Ma'am," I said. "I very much appreciate it."
"Anything for my tenants. Especially one who has been so polite and on top of his rent," said the woman. "Right this way."
The woman then grabbed a large set of keys on a ring and led me, Macao, and Wakaba upstairs and soon came into a room just a few doors down in the hallway. The woman took a key and unlocked the door, and opened it. I then walked inside and looked around. The furtiture looked nice, there was a nice big fluffy bed, and there was even a large spacious bathroom and kitchen. The place looked modest, but it was perfect for any person living by themselves.
Even Macao and Wakaba were impressed.
"Man, check this place out," said Wakaba. "I can see why Lucy and Willy are living here. It's pretty nice."
"Yeah. It's got everything in one little room," said Macao.
"Is this place really my room?" I asked. "It is nice, but... it looks too good to be true."
"I appreciate the compliment, but it's true," said the woman. "This is indeed your room, and for seventy thousand jewel per month."
"You're kidding! Only seventy thousand jewel?!" Macao and Wakaba cried. "That's a freaking steal!"
"Now, I'm jealous. I wouldn't mind renting a room this cheap," said Macao. "If I did, Romeo and I would be living the dream."
"I'm with you on that one," agreed Wakaba. "I could use a space to get away from my wife."
I walked in and took a look around, slowly taking it all in. As I did, I started to feel a sense that this was really my home vaguely, but I still wasn't very sure if it was. I went over to my bed and sat down on it, letting my bottom sink into the soft mattress. It felt incredibly soft, like a fluffy cloud, and I couldn't help but lay down as a grin spread my cheeks.
"Wow. This feels so nice," I sighed with content. "If this is my room, then I must have been living a happy life."
"Does being in your room bring back any memories?" asked Macao.
"Not really," I replied. "But this room does seem a bit familiar to me. I just can't believe that this one's mine."
"Well, boys, I've got to get back downstairs and man the front desk," said the woman. "If you boys need anything else, feel free to give me a shout."
And with that, the woman left, as I continued to look around my supposed room feeling as curious as a child entering its first playground.
NO POV
Macao and Wakaba watched as Willy inspected his room with raised eyebrows as they spoke to each other, so Willy didn't hear them.
"Geez. I knew that losing his memory would be bad, but I didn't think it'd be this bad," said Wakaba. "He doesn't even remember that this is his room. Not to mention that he's like a child."
"Well, the doctor said that it would take time for him to recover his memory, so we shouldn't try to rush it," said Macao. "But I do wish that there was a way to help him start remembering faster. You got any ideas?"
"Hmm... Let's see... he is a water dragon slayer, so he likes water. Maybe we should have him soak in some water or something?" suggested Wakaba.
"Nah. That won't work. There's got to be something else that can help Willy besides that," Macao said while shaking his head. He then pondered what to do for a few seconds before giving up. "Actually, if I'm being honest, I don't know very much about Willy other than we was childhood friends with Mira and her siblings."
"Me either," said Wakaba. "He did keep to himself back then too."
Macao then sighed. "Well, I suppose we can take him to the guildhall. Maybe seeing that along with the others will restore his memory. Heck, we can even take him out on a job."
"Whoa, hold on, Macao. First of all, we can't just take him out on a job. Not when he's like this," said Wakaba. "What if the job we go on ends up turning into a fight, and Willy forgets how to use his magic? He'd end up putting himself in danger, and not just that, things are probably a little crazy over there considering what just happened. You know that as soon as they see him, they're going to be pelting him with questions."
"I know, but I honestly don't see any other way to help him," said Macao. "Besides, everyone else in the guild is probably wondering the same things we are when it comes to Natsu and the others despite what those Magic Council guys told us. Willy's the only one who knows what happened, and restoring his memory is the only way to find out. We'll nix the job thing, but I think we should at least let him see the guildhall. Besides, he could use some friends right about now."
Wakaba went silent as he let out a sigh as he looked back towards Willy, who was still looking around his room like a curious kitten who had found a toy to play with.
WILLY'S POV
After a while, Macao, Wakaba, and I left my apartment, and were out in Magnolia's streets again. Just before I left, the landlady gave me another copy of the apartment key, so I could come back without being locked out. In the meantime, Macao and Wakaba were going to take me where the town's guild was, which the three of us were a part of.
As I walked, I happened to glance over at some of the townspeople that were walking around. Some of them were going around their way, either walking around themselves or doing errands. Others were staring at us as we walked by, particular at me. Most of them were more curious, but others appeared to be more fearful and showed that they didn't want anything to do with me, which made me feel a bit confused, and also a bit uncomfortable.
"Um, Macao? Wakaba? I've noticed that there's a lot of people that are staring at me," I said. "Do either of you two know why that is?"
Macao and Wakaba looked at one another, appearing to be uncomfortable themselves before looking back at me.
"Well... that's a pretty tough question to answer, kid," said Macao. "The thing is, you're quite well known around here in Magnolia, and not in a good way."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
Wakaba then spoke up. "Long story short, you were brainwashed into working for a dark guild," he said. "Some guy named Brain cast a spell on you into doing his dirty work."
A look of concern then crossed my face. "A dark guild? Do you mean like a group of bad wizards?"
"Hey! Wakaba!" Macao spoke while nudging his elbow. "You're laying it a little thick there."
"Oh, come on down. We are trying to get Willy's memories back, right? There's no reason to sugarcoat anything, so we might as well tell him," he then turned back towards me. "Anyway, this Brain guy warped your mind and treated you like a puppet, but thankfully, Natsu and the others were able to break the spell off of you. After that, you were taken by the Magic Council and were put on trial and stuff, but you eventually came into our town and joined the guild."
"That's... quite a story," I said. "But is that the reason some of these people are looking at me funny? Because I used to be a member of this dark guild even though I was brainwashed?"
"That would appear to be the case," said Macao. "I mean if it were me, I would probably feel the same way."
I then looked down towards the ground, feeling saddened and even a bit confused. "I... I don't understand. If what you're telling me is true, then why can't the people trust me? Is it because they refuse to accept me because they're angry about what I did in the past? Or is it because they still think of me as the enemy that I once was, and believe that the past defines who I am rather than my true self?"
Macao and Wakaba then stopped walking as did I as a long silence passed between us. At that moment, I felt a strange sensation pass through me. Something unpleasant and yet vaguely familiar somewhere in the back of my mind, which gave me a slight headache, but went away after a couple of seconds.
"Hey. You alright, Willy? You remember something?" asked Wakaba.
"No, it's nothing," I replied, shaking my head. "I just... spaced out for a bit. Anyway, let's keep going."
Macao and Wakaba shrugged, and then went on their way, while I followed them.
Soon enough, we came to what Macao and Wakaba called the Fairy Tail guildhall. It was a large two-story building that looked just like one of those traditional buildings from faraway lands with a belltower on top of it. It also had several banners and signs that all had the same symbol, an emblem that appeared to be a strange f shape or a creature of some kind. There was also an outdoor cafe to my left, and a gift shop to the right with dozens of people either buying things from the gift shop, eating at over at the tables, or just walking into the building itself.
We then walked inside, and it was just as crowded inside as it was on the outside. There were dozens of people sitting at tables either talking or drinking, enjoying themselves, each one having the same symbol like the ones outside, stamped somewhere on their bodies. I couldn't help but soak in the atmosphere as I looked around.
"Wow! This place is just as big inside as it is outside!" I said with wonder. "And look at all of the wizards that are in here!"
"Yup. This is our Fairy Tail guildhall! The strongest and biggest in Fiore!" Wakaba spoke proudly. "And we're all its members too."
"You're kidding. That's so cool!" I spoke, feeling impressed. "Am I a member too?"
"Yup. In fact, you should have a guild mark like ours on your right arm," said Macao. "But sadly, your right arm was pretty messed up when you were found."
I then looked at my arm, noticing the bandages that covered it. Wanting to see if I had the mark of Fairy Tail underneath it, I started taking it off, but then Macao stopped me.
"Whoa, hold on there, Willy," Macao said. "Don't go taking your bandages off. You have to leave them on so your body can heal. Unless you want to end up getting an infection or hurting yourself."
At that moment, three of wizards in the guild came walking towards us. I recognized them to be a couple of the wizards that were there at the hospital earlier in the day. One of them was the man with the tall brown hat with carrot-colored hair, the second one was the other man with black hair that looked like a plant, and the third was the girl with short purple hair with glasses.
"Hey there, you guys," said the girl. "How's it going?"
"Well, I suppose things could be better," said Wakaba. "Willy's still having trouble getting his memories back, so we'd figured that we'd bring him to the guildhall to help things along."
"I see," the girl sighed with a hint of disappointment. Then she looked at me. "So, you've completely forgotten everything, Willy? Including your friends as well as your guild?"
"Sadly, yes. I apologize if I don't remember you, Miss..." I spoke hesitating a bit for not knowing her name.
"Laki," introduced the girl. "My name is Laki, and it's okay. If you lost your memories, then we'll do whatever we can to help you get them back."
"Yeah. Count on it," agreed the carrot-top man. "The name's Jet by the way."
"And my name's Droy," said the black plant haired man. "Nice to mee you. Again."
"It's nice to meet all of you," I greeted back. "And thank you for your kindness and hospitality."
"Say, Willy, since you're here in the guildhall, why don't Droy and I reintroduce you to everyone?" asked Jet. "Maybe if you get to know everyone again, you'll remember something."
"Yeah, and everyone's been wondering how you've been doing since we saw you at the hospital," said Droy. "It would help rest a lot easier seeing you."
"Well, at this point, I'm willing to try anything to get my memory back," I said. "So why not? To be honest, I was hoping that I would stick around a little longer. You all are such friendly and good people, and I wouldn't mind if I got to know everyone, even though I lost my memory and I probably forgot about you."
"In that case, let's go then," said Jet.
And with that, Jet and Droy led me towards the people of the guild, as I smiled all the while looking forward to meeting them.
NO POV
Macao, Wakaba, and Laki watched as Willy left with Jet and Droy.
"So it's true then," said Laki. "Willy's acting completely squirrelish now."
Macao and Wakaba then looked at Laki like she just blurted her favorite kind of wood.
"What's she saying about squirrels?" wondered Wakaba.
"She means that Willy's acting scatterbrained right now," Macao groaned slightly irritated. "Seriously, Laki, how many times do I have to tell you to think before you start talking?!"
"Well, you both should understand me by now, but you're both still completely dense!" Laki pouted huffily.
Warren and Max then walked up.
"It's kind of hard to believe that Willy has amnesia again," said Max. "You'd never suspect considering that he looks the same as he always did."
"Any luck getting him to remember anything, Macao?" asked Warren.
"No dice," replied Macao. "And after we took him home and told a little about him."
"Man, I sure wish Wendy was here right now," said Wakaba. "Her healing magic is just what we need to fix him."
"I'm not even sure if Willy's healing magic could help him right now," said Max. "He probably doesn't even remember how to use it."
"Well, there's got to be something that we can do to help him," said Laki. "We just need to think of something."
There was a long silence as everyone tried to think of any ideas that could help him. Then Macao had an idea.
"Hey! Maybe we can get that Tu-Chi lady to help him?" Macao asked. "I mean she was able to restore his memory before, she could do it again."
"That is a good idea, but it's going to be a bit hard trying to contact her," said Max. "I heard that Tu-Chi is constantly traveling around training and such."
"But it's worth a try, ain't it? We are running out of ideas, so we should go for it," said Macao. "If all else fails, then we'll just have to give up and wait for Willy to get his memories back."
"But what about the others back at Tenrou Island?" asked Warren. "Should we try to form a search party and look for them? I mean I'm still feeling worried after what that Doranbolt guy told us."
"Then that's what we're going to do," said Macao. "Laki. You, Max, and Warren try to get a search party ready to go to sea. Meanwhile, Wakaba and I will try and see if we can contact Tu-Chi."
"Sounds like a plan," said Wakaba. "But how come you're the one ordering us around? It's not like you're the guild master."
"Give me a break. This isn't the time to be worrying about who's ordering who," said Macao. "Right now, we got to make sure that everyone on Tenrou Island is alive and well, and we have to make sure that Willy gets back to normal. I just hope that everyone's alright over there."
Meanwhile, in another part of Magnolia Town close to the south, another guild hall stood. It was somewhat large, but smaller compared with Fairy Tail's building and had a rustic Japanese look about it. It also had a pair of giant horns decorated on top of the roof, bearing a flag with a symbol that was a helmet with two spikes with three triangles on the bottom, two large chains that connected the ground and the main gate, and an ogre face with two crossed spikes behind it with the words "MAKE MONEY" on it. Finally, just below the Orge face, the name of the guild was displayed that said: TWILIGHT ORGE.
Inside this building, the members were all inside lounging around. Most of them were big, and some were unruly, but they were as mean as mean could get. Among them were a couple of particular men that picked on Willy in the past before he gave them a firm talking to, and just so happened to be members of Twilight Orge. Ever since then they felt humiliated by letting one person get the better of them, and now they were wanting payback, but they didn't know how to.
"Damn it all! I hate the fact that we let that Willy bastard scare us like that!" the fat thug said as he took a swig of beer. "Just you wait, next time I see him, he's going to get it!"
"Come on, man. Let it go," said another thug. "It's been weeks since that happened, and I think we can let it go. Besides, you know that we can't just pick a fight with him now, especially since he's ain't a pushover anymore."
"Not to mention that he's a member of Fairy Tail," said a second. "If we even lay a finger on him, we'll all get our asses kicked!"
"I don't care!" snapped the fat one. "That bastard made an idiot out of me, and I intend to make him pay! One of these days, he'll get his!"
"Now, now. Take it easy, boys. What seems to be the problem here?" asked a voice.
The three boys then looked up and standing before them was a man who had a strange and muscular man with poofy dark hair, wore a light red shirt with short, puffy sleeves with dark padding over the shoulders, a cloth-covered with spots around his waist with dark pants underneath, and had light buckled shoes. He also had a light band circling his head, which had a pair of short horns like an oni's.
The three then gulped upon seeing him.
"Th-Thibault! H-How much did you hear?" asked the fat thug nervously.
"Long enough to hear about your little problem, and I have to say it makes you look like a cry baby," said Thibault. "But then again, I don't blame you. Fairy Tail's always have been a thorn in our guild's side since, and I think we may have an opportunity to show them who's boss."
"How so?" wondered the second.
"Word on the street is, all of Fairy Tail's main forces are over at some training camp," said Thibault. "Which means they're not going to be as strong as they were before."
The fat one raised a brow in interest while his friends appeared to be confused.
"So what? What does that have to do with us?" asked one.
"Would you think for a minute, you dodos?!" snapped the fat one. "If their main forces aren't there at the guild, then it's our chance to get some good old fashioned payback without having to worry about the others!"
The fat thug's friends let out an ahhhh of understanding and smirked with interest. Thibault was smirking as well.
"And if Thibault and his crew are with us, there's no way we can lose to those chumps!" said the second thug. "We'd stomp their faces into the dirt
"You know what, I think me and the boys will come along with you three," Thibault said. "After all, this Willy guy sounds like an interesting fellow. I want to see what he's like. That way, me and the boys can take our time punishing him."
