Chapter 125
It's Who You Are
WILLY'S POV
We soon made it back to Magnolia, after going through another ride on the train much to my displeasure. When we got back to Magnolia, we headed back to the guildhall, and decided to make plans for the search. I honestly didn't do anything much, but I did what I could to help out the others.
Eventually, it was once again evening, and I was walking home along with Macao and his son Romeo.
"You know, you don't have to come along with me, Macao," I said. "I don't want to be a burden to you and your son or anything."
"It's no burden at all," smiled Macao. "Someone's got to make sure that you get home safe. Besides, we're heading up in that direction anyway, so it's killing to birds with one stone."
"You know, you and the rest of Fairy Tail have been so kind to me, despite everything that's happened," I said, while staring up at the evening sky. "I only hope to repay that favor once my memories have returned."
"Say, Willy? Do you think that Natsu and the others are okay?" asked Romeo. "And if they are, will they come back soon?"
Macao looked down at Romeo and gave him a ruffle on his head. "Don't worry, Son. I'm sure they're just fine," he reassured. "No need to worry."
Now, I knew Macao wasn't too sure about this either, but I knew that he didn't want his son to worry, since he idolized them so much, so I didn't say anything.
Macao then looked up toward me. "Say, Willy. I just now realized, you've been having those bandages for quite some time now. Have your wounds healed yet?"
"Well, they've been hurting a lot less than before, but they're still pretty messed up underneath," I replied as I touched my bandaged right arm. "I probably won't take them off until a little bit later when they're a lot less black."
"What a shame, because when we're done, they're going to be changed into a black and blue," said a voice.
Macao and I looked back, and much to our shock, we saw the same man with the mace and his gang walking up to us, appearing ready to sport a fight. As soon as he saw them, Macao immediately stepped in front of Romeo and me.
"Not these guys again," Macao said under his breath. "Didn't we tell you guys to back off?"
"Sorry, but we've got some unfinished business with your friend there," said Thibault. "And since there's hardly anyone around, there'll be no one to bother us. After all, it's payback for how your friend treated my dear comrades."
"Now, hold on. This had to be a misunderstanding," I spoke, stepping forward. "I don't know what I did to you guys, nor do I know you, but we're not looking for a fight here. So why don't we all take it easy and-"
At that moment, Thibault suddenly raised his leg up and then gave me a swift kick to the sternum blowing me backward to the ground in a heap. He surprisingly had a significant amount of strength from that kick alone despite his skinny appearance.
"Wow, did you see that?! He went down with just a single hit!" laughed a lackey. "That's our boss for you."
"How dare you do that to Willy?!" Macao snapped. "You punks are going to pay that!" He then turned towards me. "Willy, why didn't you use your magic to fight back?!"
As I sat up, wiping the spit and dirt off of my mouth, Macao came over to me as did his son. Macao then stood bravely in front of me as Romeo helped me up.
"Look at this guy, he thinks he can take on all five of us," laughed a second lackey. "He's either brave or really stupid!"
"Come on! Get out of the way, Old Man. We just want the guy behind you," said the fat lackey. "Just hand him over, and you and your kid won't get hurt."
"Yeah. We wouldn't want your son to see his dear old daddy get hurt," mocked a third.
"Like hell, I would," Macao spoke bravely. "You just made a big mistake, and I ain't going to let you get away with that!" He then looked at the two of us. "Willy! You and Romeo get out of here, while I take care of these punks!"
This made my eyes widen. "Macao, you can't!"
"But Daddy...!" protested Romeo.
"Don't argue with me! These guys are looking for a fight; they got one!" Macao said. "Besides, I'm not about to let a member of my guild or my son get hurt by these punks! Now get out of here! PURPLE FLARE!"
Macao then faced Thibault and his men, and unleashed a powerful torrent of purple flames from his hands, only for Thibault to take his mace off of his back and with a mighty swing, not only dispersed Macao's flames, but the force alone was enough to send him flying into the canal with a splash.
"Dad!" Romeo cried.
"Macao!" I also cried.
"How pathetic. Guess all that talk was just a bunch of hot air," Thibault scoffed. "He was so weak; I'm surprised that he went down so easily."
"You heartless monster!" I scowled while shielding Romeo. "How could you do something like that to Macao?!"
Thibault then looked at me. "Because, I felt like it. Besides, I told you that you're the one I want," he said. "After all, my buddies here tell me that you gave them a hard time a while back, so I'm here to repay the favor. Not to mention, there's the fact that you're a wanted man, kid, so you're in need to be punished."
"I have no idea what you're talking about!" I snapped. "I haven't seen you guys before in my entire life, and what do you mean about me being a wanted man?"
"You don't know? I'm surprised that you haven't heard about it," Thibault said coolly. "Everyone's been talking about it, how you and the rest of your Fairy Tail friends went on some mission and you were the only one to come back alive. The way people see it, you were the one responsible for their disappearance."
"I what?!" I exclaimed incredulously. "What are you are talking about?!"
"Come on; you should know this by now. You're the Traitor of Barem Alliance and were once a Dark Mage," went on Thibault. "And you just went and joined a legal guild, without thinking about how hated you'd be or how much trouble you'd be causing your guild? Not very smart if you ask me, but then again, I'd joined a guild like Fairy Tail if I was in your position." He paused briefly as a cruel smile, curled on his lips. "If I wanted to get revenge, that is."
This made me flinch as a strong sense of deja-vu overtook my mind as my blood seemed to run cold from hearing that word, as Thilbault's thugs laughed.
"R-Revenge?" I spoke. "What reason would I want to have revenge against Fairy Tail after they treated me so kindly?!"
"Isn't it obvious? You were a part of the Oración Seis, and Fairy Tail went and beat them up got them locked up by the Magic Council," Thibault went on. "The way I see it, you were biding your time, waiting for your chance, and then when all of your so-called friends were in one place, you took out every last one of them all by yourself!"
"You're wrong!" I shouted. "I would never do anything like that!"
"Of course you would. After all, you've got the motive, and you were the only one that made it back alive," the fat one scoffed. "Not to mention, that despite you being a part of a legal guild, you can't be trusted because of who you were in the past, so you were the one that took them out. You may claim to be the good guy, but in truth, you're the heartless monster and always will be!"
The feeling of deja-vu grew even stronger as little bits of my dream flashed into my mind as a wave of guilt, confusion, and shock coursed through my body, as I fell silent, not being able to say anything back. I had no memory after all, and it did make the behavior of the citizens of Magnolia towards me make sense. Could I have been responsible? Was I the one responsible for the disappearances of Natsu and the others, and I just didn't remember it? This made my heart hammer in my chest, wanting to proclaim my innocence, but somewhere deep in my heart, I wasn't sure if I was.
Then, just as I was about to give in, a single voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
"You're wrong!"
My head snapped up, my eyes looking in front to see that Romeo now stood bravely in front of Thibault and his lackeys, trembling a bit from fear, but he wouldn't back down.
"Willy isn't a bad man! He's one of the coolest Fairy Tail wizards ever!" Romeo spoke bravely. "And it's not his fault people think he's evil! They don't know how awesome he is! He would never do anything to hurt us, and if anything, you guys are the ones looking for revenge, so you're the bad guys!"
"That's right!" said a voice from the canal. "That's the way to tell them, Romeo!"
Everyone else looked towards the canal, and saw that Macao was now out of the canal, dripping wet, but alright, much our relief.
"Dad! You're alright!" Romeo cried.
"Willy's also a member of our family!" went on Macao. "And anyone who dares mess with our family is going to get a beating they'll never forget! So if you know what's good for you, you'll leave my boy and Willy alone! Otherwise, you're both going to get it!"
Thibault scowled crossly. "Is that so? Then how about we call you out on your bluff? And while we're at it, how about we give all of you a good beating?!"
Thibault grabbed his mace from his back and got ready to swing it at Macao as he stomped towards him.
"Leave my Dad alone!" Romeo cried as he tried to rush over to try and help, only to have the chubby one, and the others cut him off.
"Mind your own business, you brat!" snapped the chubby one, as he brought his hand back, preparing to hit the boy.
Before I had a chance to warn him, the chubby one, pushed Romeo, making him hit the ground. At that moment, seeing that, something snapped inside of my mind and inside of my body. Memories began to pour into my mind, memories of me being with Fairy Tail, being with Natsu and the others, and the bad memories of me being scorned because of my past, which showed up most of all.
Macao saw his son on the ground, and was livid, his hands igniting with purple blames.
"You bastard! How dare you do that to my son?!" Macao roared. "I'll make you guys pay for that!"
Thibault smirked smugly as Macao came at him, as he gave him a swift kick to his chest, sending him to the ground once again, rolling until he was at the edge of the canal about to fall into the water. Seeing this, I felt even more horrified as Thibault looked back at me.
"You see that punk?! This is what's going to happen, the longer you stay with them!" Thibault said. "Because of what you did in the past, everyone in your guild is going to suffer! All because you decided to join a legal guild despite your background! Someone like you has no place in a legal guild, and are better off in a dark guild!"
He, along with his friends then laughed as if they thought the whole thing was funny, while I sat there staring at Macao's body frozen with shock. I could feel my deja-vu being the strongest as it's ever been as more memories flood my mind. The memories of me being in similar situations, people, and enemies alike. At that moment, I could feel something grow within me, getting stronger and stronger, and my head felt like it was throbbing as my vision faded away.
"D-Damn it...! Why... why does this... feel so familiar?! It reminds me... of... of..."

Thibault feeling pleased with his work then turned towards Macao, and got ready to knock him in the water, his mace at the ready, but then there was suddenly a scream as something shot past him hitting the wall in the canal. It was the chubby lackey who was stuck in the wall for a brief few seconds from the force; then the fell right into the water with a splash.
Thibault then looked back and saw something that made him raise a brow. Willy was on his feet, standing before the other lackeys, his body radiating in a dark shade of navy blue and black. His eyes also were a brilliant shade of gold and green as he took one look at the four enemies that stood before him, and glared menacingly.
However, the four lackeys foolishly didn't back down, wanting to avenge their comrade.
"You bastard! How dare you do that?!"
"We're going to kick your ass!"
Willy then looked up and spoke in a low tone of voice that was as cold as ice at Mount Hakabe. "Is that a fact? Then I hope you all said your peace, because I intend to crush every last one of you."
Feeling angered even further, Thibault's remaining for lackeys all came at Willy at once, only for him to immediately let out a scream as an invisible blast of force erupted from his body, sending all four of them backward. Thibault immediately charged at Willy; his mace raised high as he prepared to swing.
"Take this, you punk!" Thibault roared, as he swung with all of his strength.
Thibault's mace swung hard, wanting to bash Willy to the ground, and Macao was about ready to jump in to help, but Willy raised his hand and stopped the mace just before it hit him with ease.
Thibault gawked with disbelief as he tried to take his mace back, but for some reason, it wouldn't move. He tugged, and he pulled desperately as a Willy straightened his hand, cloaking it with black water and gave a few quick swipes with it. In a manner of seconds, the mace was reduced to pieces. As Thibault stared at his destroyed weapon in disbelief, Willy clenched his water-cloaked hand into a fist, and decked him square in the face with a straight punch. Thibault was knocked flat on his back as he held his face, letting out a scream of pain.
A lackey, which managed to get back up on his feet, came charging; his fists raised preparing to use his magic. However, just as he was about to, Willy cloaked his leg with the same black water and gave him a roundhouse kick square in the gut, making the poor soul's eyes bug out in agony as he was sent flying.
Two more of the lackeys then came at Willy from both sides hoping for an ambush, but reacting quickly, the boy jumped up and then, while performing a split in midair, kicked them both in the face making them both stagger. Then while they both were stunned, Willy shot towards one and landed a few sharp and strong blows all over his chest and midsection and finished him off with a powerful uppercut knocking him out. After that, he gunned towards the other attacked with a rapid-fire of water cloaked kicks and landed a powerful roundhouse and finished that one off too.
Willy soon was the only one standing, turning his attention towards Thibault. The man was now was trembling in fear as Willy slowly walked over to him, like a cat that cornered a mouse. He grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt and pulled him up.
"N-No! Please! Don't hurt me!" Thibault whimpered. "Please don't hurt me!"
"What's the matter? You guys start acting tough one minute, and the next, you're all acting like a bunch of wimps?" Willy spoke in a monotone voice. "How pathetic and unsightly."
He once again straightened his hand, cloaking it with water making it into a long sword. Thibault's face immediately paled as Willy pointed the blade at him, aiming right for his chest.
"Wh-What are you doing?!" Thibault yelped, his voice filled with dread.
"What do you think?" Willy spoke, his eyes boring into him. "Since you and your friends treated mine so horribly, I think you and your party are due for some punishment. And I indeed to give you plenty of it."
Thibault was now terrified. "N-No! Please! You can't do this!" he shrieked as he tried to break free. "Y-You're in a legal guild! I-If you kill me, you'll look like the bad guy for sure!
"What does it matter? You said it yourself, someone like me doesn't belong with a legal guild, remember?" Willy said. "Besides, there's no talking your way out of this one. You hurt people that I care about, and I intend to take revenge, so prepare yourself."
Thibault's skin was now white as a sheet as Willy brought his sword back, ready to kill as it seemed, but then he heard a voice.
"Willy! Stop it! You're taking this too far!"
Willy glanced towards the canal, and saw Macao. He was back on his feet, appearing to be okay, but he looked very unnerved for what Willy was about to do.
"Why should I? This man is need of being punished, and I intend to teach them a lesson for what he and his pawns did," Willy spoke. "So, don't get in my way."
"Trust me, man. You've made your point!" Macao said. "There's no sense in taking this any further, so calm down and let them go! Right now, you're acting just as they said you were, and you're not like that! So let him go, please."
Willy stared at Macao until he heard another voice from behind him.
"Willy? What are you doing?"
Hearing this, Willy looked behind him and saw Romeo, who had finally recovered from being hit. He gazed straight into Willy, his eyes wide with confusion as well as some fear as if he was wondering what was going on without freaking out.
Willy saw this, and almost immediately, the cold golden-green colored look in his eyes dissipated and almost immediately, came back to his senses, his blade of water dispersing.
WILLY'S POV
I was angry. Very much so. I wanted to make Thibault and his friend pay for what they did to Macao and Romeo, however, seeing the look on Romeo's face, and Macao's words made me calm down as I let Thibault go. Upon falling to the ground, Thibault took off running, appearing to be as scared as a deer hearing a gunshot, as his henchmen followed in hot pursuit.
"You'll pay for this, you bastards!" Thibault wailed. "I swear, you all will!"
"Hey! Boss! Wait for us!" cried the fat chubby lackey. "Don't leave us behind!"
As soon as they were all gone, I rushed over to Romeo, checking for any injuries.
"Romeo, are you alright?" I asked worriedly. "I'm so sorry! I-I don't know what came over me! I was... Then they..."
"I-It's alright," said Romeo. "I'm just glad that you scared those guys off."
Macao then came over. "You alright, Romeo?! They didn't hurt you too badly, did they?!"
"I'm fine, Dad," said Romeo. "Don't worry."
Macao sighed in relief as he looked across to me. "Willy, thank you. For listening to me, I mean. I'm just surprised that you didn't start beating them up sooner."
"Well, I was hoping to try and make peace with them, but it seems they didn't want to," I said. "Not to mention after they pushed Romeo down, I... kind of lost it. I'm sorry if I scared you guys."
"It's no big deal," smiled Romeo. "Besides, it was kind of cool they way you beat those guys up without even getting touched! Not to mention, I've seen my fair share of even scarier stuff."
"That's my boy! Tough as nails, just like his old man!" Macao chuckled.
As the two laughed, I couldn't help but smile along with them feeling relieved that they were alright.

Soon afterward, the trio then arrived at the apartments. The sky had already grown dark. As Willy was about to walk inside, he couldn't help but look back at Macao and Romeo, feeling a bit worried.
"Macao? Are you sure that you and Romeo will be okay heading home by yourselves?" Willy asked. "Maybe I should walk back home with you?"
"Don't worry. We'll be fine," reassured Macao. "If you're worried about Thibault coming back, I wouldn't be worried. After giving him that much of a scare, I don't think we'll be seeing him or his friends for a while."
"I still feel bad for what I did," I said. "I just hope that there won't be any repercussions for fighting them."
"There's no need to worry, Willy!" said Romeo, his face filled with admiration and conviction. "If those guys try to pick a fight with Fairy Tail, you, my dad, and everyone else in Fairy Tail will show them who's boss! Right, Dad?"
"Well, I don't know about that," chuckled Macao sheepishly. "But he's right, Willy. If those guys try to stir up trouble again, we'll deal with them when the time comes. In the meantime, make sure you get plenty of rest and focus on getting your memories back. Okay?"
Willy was still a bit hesitant, but he decided to talk Macao's word for it, and with a final wave goodbye. He walked into his apartment and went to his room.
However, what Macao didn't realize was that something happened during that confrontation with Thibault, and thanks to his cruel words, Willy had finally snapped out of his amnesia and regained his memory.
"I know who I am now," Willy said to himself. "I... am Willy Falconer, and yet..."
He looked at his bandaged hand for a brief few seconds. Then he took the bandages off, revealing that his right arm was still a bit burned from whatever he suffered, but now showed signs of healing. He took off all the other bandages that wrapped his body revealing the battle-scarred skin underneath it. He was the same Willy Falconer as he always was, however, the bandages he wore were hiding one significant difference.
The Fairy Tail guild mark on his right arm wasn't there.
The next day, Macao and Wakaba were at the apartments once again, to pick up Willy. However, when they arrived at his room, they were surprised to see that Willy's room was completely empty.
"What the...? Where's Willy?" wondered Macao. "He should be here."
"Don't know. Maybe he already left and went to the guildhall or something," suggested Wakaba.
Macao then took notice of something on Willy's bed. It was a small white envelope with a red seal on it that read: To the people of Fairy Tail. Macao walked over to the bed and picked it up.
"Looks like he left a note for us," said Macao.
He then opened up the envelope and took out the note and started to read it. It took him a few seconds to read it entirely, and when he did, his eyes went wide with disbelief as his hands began to tremble.
"Hey, Macao. What's the matter with you?" asked Wakaba. "You look like you've seen a ghost. What's it say?"
Macao not saying another word, handed Wakaba the letter, and he read it too. After reading the entire letter, Wakaba was shocked too.
"You've... you've got to be kidding me!" Wakaba said. "This has to be some kind of joke!"
The two of them then rushed out of the room leaving the empty room and the letter behind them, which read:
To all the people of Fairy Tail,
First and foremost, I bring you some good news and some bad news. The good news is, I managed to regain my memory, and I know who I am. However, the bad news is, I'm not the person you all think I am. I can't really say who I am truthfully, but the only thing I can say is that I'm not the person you all know. Not only that, but it's been made clear that the longer I stay with you all, the more Fairy Tail will suffer. So, I have decided to leave Magnolia for your own safety. I am sad to leave you all, but I'm also grateful that you all have shown such kindness to me. I wish I could say that our paths may cross again, but somehow, I find that unlikely.
Until then, thank you for everything, and I hope you see your friends again.
Wishing you the best.
On the outskirts of Magnolia, standing on top of a hill gazing at the view, a lone figure stood along wearing a dark cloak hiding his body. The gentle wind made his cloak billow about and flutter, as he continued to stare at the city.
Then after saying a silent goodbye, the figure turned on his heel walked silently away leaving Magnolia behind him.
If you understood what this ending means, then good on you! ^^
