It was a very normal in Godric's Hollow, well as normal as it could be with a very dark wizard on lose gaining power. These events did not prevent the marauders from giving the Easter feast. The house was bursting with colours and decoration for the feast. The hosts of the party gave the all in preparing for it even though they knew that not many people were going to come as those were dark times and it was crazy enough to get out of the houses during the day. But as usual the marauders did not care .
The attention of people inside the house for suddenly attracted as a barn owl knocked at the glass window pane. It had a piece of yellow parchment on its beak. It looks like a a letter but wasn't enclosed in an envelope. A young man with long black hair and sparkling grey eyes went to get the note. His face fell a bit as he scan the message on the note.
" What's the matter Padfoot ? What's in the note?" the man with his eyes and unruly black hair, concerned for his friend.
"Wormtail has bailed on us again, hasn't he?" The other boy with sandy brown hair asked. His Blue eyes glinting with a knowing look.
"Yeah I wish he would tell us what's wrong with his mother though. " Sirius black said with a sigh. " We are his friends after all " .
The other two boys nodded their head in agreement.
"Why do you three want to force him into telling this so much. Maybe he is bailing because he need some time for his own. And if it is, I want blame him a bit. With you 3 together it's difficult enough to breed properly let alone get some free time. "A soft voice came from the direction of the door as the door open slowly.
"LILY".
James Potter rushed to hug And greet his girlfriend. After breaking free from her boyfriend Lily Evans went up to hug the other two 18 year olds in the room.
"What are you doing here so early? The party starts at 7 right? " James asked his girlfriend happily.
"Your best friend called me over. Said he had some errands to be done before the party starts. And its 6:30 anyway people will be arriving soon enough. "Lily said smiling.
James Potter turned around, "What errands do you have Remus ?"
Remus Lupin gave a laugh but before he could say anything Sirius pulled a hand over his heart and said with a pout.
"I am deeply hurt Prongs. Why is it that you assume that it is Remus who always has errands to run, not me?"
James Potter looked at his other best friend with a very surprised look. He then turned back to Remus and asked, "Hey Moony, did the sun rise from the west today? Sirius Black running errands? I am not in heaven, am I? "
Lily and Remus burst out into laughter while Sirius just pouted."It's not funny, I really have some work to do.""And what is that?" James asked.
"I have to babysit my cousin" Sirius said and Lily gave him a doubtful look as if not trusting him."What is that look for?""Well Lily and I were just thinking that who would be mad enough to trust their child with you." Remus said with a slight smirk on his face, James gave a snort.
"What's happening here?" Marlene McKinnon walked went up to her best friend, "Apparently Sirius has to go and babysit his cousin." Lily said after giving Marlene a hug."Nice joke Lils" Marlene said laughing but when she noticed Sirius pout more she stopped, "Wait, you're serious?""Apparently yeah." James said laughing at the shocked expression of his classmate."She's my second cousin, okay. And she's not exactly a baby. She's 7 already. And if you all are done with laughing on me can I go? Because I don't want to be hexed by Andy.""Andy as in Andromeda Black?" Lily asked curiously.
"Tonks now, but yes her." Sirius said nodding."She is Bellatrix's sister, isn't she?" Remus asked."Yes, but she is nothing like her. Just because her sister is a crazy, lunatic doesn't mean..." but before Sirius could say further Remus interrupted him."I did not mean that. Anyway I don't get to judge anyone, cause I am the Werewolf myself." Remus said with a somewhat saddened laugh."Oh come on Remus, you know that nobody cares about that." Marlene said to him. Remus didn't argue further on the topic.
"Hey Prongs, do you mind if I bring Nymphadora here? Andy and Ted are having a night for themselves, It's their anniversary.""Of course not, bring her in."'The more the merrier." Added Lily."Nymphadora?" Marlene asked after Sirius apparated."It's his cousin's name. The Blacks do have a strange taste for names." Remus said smiling.
An hour passed and the drawing room was almost filled with people for the party. The people invited were not more than 10-12. There was Alastor "Mad-eye" Moody who was James and Sirius's mentor. James had sent almost 30 letters before Mad-eye finally decided to give in. Then there were the Prewett Twins who were there with their sister Molly and her husband Arthur Weasley. Then there were Marlene and Lily along with the Marauders (except Peter).
Lily and Marlene sat with Molly talking and gossiping while Remus and James sat on the floor playing exploding snap with the Prewett twins. Arthur sat with Mad-eye talking aboutthe happenings at the ministry when suddenly the floo turned green. Everyone turned their heads to see Sirius stepping out with a young girl.
Sirius smirked at the girl and looked at everyone in the room."Guys, meet my cousin Nymphadora Tonks."The aforementioned girl turned red at the greeting, and to the surprise of everyone in the room her hair started turning red too."Don't call me Nymphadora" the girl said with a threatening glare at Sirius and then turned to the others and smiled softly. "It's just Tonks."A wicked smile broke into the faces of Fabian and Glidon Prewett."She is-""quite""feisty,""Isn't she?"They finished together. The others just stared at the girl. Even Moody seemed a little bit startled at the feistiness of the girl.
"Do you go to Hogwarts dear?" Molly asked breaking the silence."No, I am not of age yet.""How old are you then?" Arthur Weasley asked,"I'm Seven." The girl said proudly.
Everyone smiled at her and the party started in full swing. Even Tonks seemed to be enjoying herself among the elders. She stood in front of James and Remus showing them hermetamorphic abilities while Sirius sat with Lily and Marlene complaining about how a seven-year old was stealing his best friends from him.
Everything was perfect until there was a sudden knock on the door. Everyone paused on whatever they were doing."I will go and see" Lily offered."CONSTANT VIGILLANCE Evans, these are war times. You cannot go and open the door for any random stranger" Moody growled."It's alright Lily, I'll go and see. Offered Remus."Who's there?" Remus asked, his wand ready just in case the intruder tried to do something."Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore" A very familiar voice gave the answer to their question.
"Dumbledore?" James asked."What would Dumbledore want at this time?" Sirius said skeptical."Ask him something" Mad-eye growled seemed to think for a moment and then asked, "What is your favorite type of Jam?"All gave Remus a surprised look except for James and Sirius who were smirking.A small laugh came from the other side of the door, "Well asked Mr. Lupin" Remus could hear appreciation In Dumbledore's voice. Then after a small pause the answer came."Raspberry"Remus quickly opened the door to let Dumbledore in. Dumbledore went inside and Remus went back to his seat."How did you know what Dumbledore's favorite jam is?" Remus turned around to see a curious looking Nymphadora Tonks looking at him. Remus gave a sheepish smile."Maybe you can find that out when you go to school yourself." Remus replied
"So you really are a marauder. Sirius might have mentioned that it's not easy getting something outta you guys. "Tonks said after thinking for a bit."So, what made you think that I am not?" Remus asked, a smirk on his face."You looked too innocent." Tonks said shrugging. Remus laughed."And people would say you are 14 or something with the nature of questions you ask, not seven.""So It's good then, isn't it? Dad says I am mature enough to become an auror.""At seven?" Marlene Interrupted, apparently she was listening in on them from the beginning."No, not now I guess. But I will be one when I grow up a bit." Tonks said firmly."But according to Sirius you are quite clumsy, can't say I haven't seen you falling sometimes today itself. So how are you planning on catching the dark wizards." Remus said teasing."Stop teasing her Remus. We all know she would be a great auror when she grows up." Lily says smiling encouragingly at her."Okay okay, but why were you two eavesdropping?""They were not" Tonks said giving a smile at Lily and Marlene. "They were just listening.""You can't win arguing with her Remus, come here before my cousin drives you mad. I think Dumbledore has something to show us." Sirius called from the other end of the shook his head and went towards them while Lily, Marlene and Tonks just giggled at them.
"What's the problem Dumbledore?" Remus could hear the others questioning Dumbledore. Remus went up to them to see Dumbledore sitting on the sofa with a wooden box infront of him."What's in the box Albus?" Moody asked,Dumbledore gave a sigh. By that time Lily, Marlene and Molly had joined them too. Dumbledore opened the box slowly. The box had seven vials of a silvery liquid which glinted in the lights."What are these?" Marlene asked curiously."Memories" Lily and Remus said together."I have read about them" Lily defended herself when she got skeptical glance from Moody."Right you are." Dumbledore said with a mysterious air around him."Whose memories are those Albus? Is it of some Death-Eater's?" Moody asked.
Dumbledore shook his head.
"I know you all are in between a party and I am quite ashamed to Interrupt you at this moment but something has come up which can't be handled by me alone."Everyone just stared at Dumbledore as he spoke, what could have happened that even Dumbledore can't handle it himself. And why was he there at Godric's Hollow of all places..
Dumbledore gestured them to take a seat. Everyone sat circling him forgetting the seven year old sitting by the armchair."These memories are from the future." Dumbledore said."FUTURE?" the occupants of the room gasped.."How can these memories be from the future?" Lily asked uncertain."Dumbledore, this""Isn't some""broad joke""that you're""playing on us,""Is It?" The Prewett twins asked."Because if it is we are glad about the effort you made but""we are not convinced." James finished Sirius's sentence just like the Prewett Twins."Of course it's not a joke, Dumbledore wouldn't joke about something like this," Remus said to his friends.
"I am sorry Mr Black but I think I will have to agree with Mr Lupin on this." Dumbledore said shaking his head."But how is this even possible?" Moody looked at Dumbledore demanding an answer."I think I will have to start from the beginning then." Dumbledore said."As you all know I have been trying a spell to get to the end of Voldemort for the past few days," Dumbledore paused and the others nodded their heads to show that they were listening."And yesterday I thought that I finally got something useful. But alas, what I got wasn't the thing I wanted.""And what does that mean?" Molly asked speaking for the first time."What it means Molly is that, the spell I used helped me to get to the end of Voldemort literally." But on everyone's confused look Dumbledore elaborated. "It won't help me to defeat Voldemort, It would help me to see Voldemort's downfall, before it actually happened."
A silence fell into the room, everyone just glanced at each other before Moody finally spoke."So you think that these are the memories that will show us how Voldemort was defeated in the future?""Yes, I suspect exactly that Alastor." Dumbledore nodded his head."But why do you need us for?" James asked after a bit of thinking."You see Mr Potter that future is something not to meddle with and I myself cannot be an exception to it. And to see these memories I need more than one person or else the memory will collapse. Which is the reason I am here. Each one of you are remarkably strong witches and wizards and I thought that it would be best if you all join me in it.""But what will happen if we don't see the memory at all? And if we see those things beforehand won't that meddle with the timeline? Remus asked Dumbledore.."I can understand your concerns Mr Lupin but the memories won't vanish until someone sees them and if Voldemort himself gets access to them it could create quite an havoc. And as for the meddling Mr Lupin, I will personally make sure that each one of us gets oblivated after seeing these seven memories. So will you all join me in it?" Dumbledore asked."Of course." Arthur Weasley repiled."If this could be our contribution towards the greater good we will definitely do it." Molly Weasley clutched her husband's hand to show their support."Yeah, every single person in this room will see those memories." James said in the behalf of everyone in the room as the owner of the house. Everyone in the room nodded theirheads in conformation.
"I would still like to warn you all, seeing the future might mean that you could witness your own deaths. Are you all prepared for that?""Don't worry about that Professor, if this contributes-""even a little towards the downfall of that bastard then we all are in." The Prewett twins stood up and conjured something which looked like a metal basin, It had strange symbols carved in it and was fitted with precious stones. The ones who had never seen a pensive before stared at it eagerly."So, we are going to see the memories in this?" Sirius asked."Yes Mr. Black." Dumbledore smiled and then with a single wave of his wand he closed all the windows and doors of the house.
"So, we are ready to go in." Sirius of them turned towards the pensive but they were suddenly Interrupted by a voice they almost had forgotten was there."And what about me, don't I get to see those memories too?" Tonks asked stared horrified at his cousin, "Oh no, how could I have forgotten about her? I need to get her home." Sirius said almost petrified at the thought of his little cousin seeing what could be a bunch of very dangerous memories."I am afraid you can't do that Mr Black. All of your words are taken and she was in the same room." Dumbledore said to Sirius.
"But Albus she is only a kid, not any older than Charlie" Molly whined."I am sorry to say this Molly but what's done is done. We have to take her in too." Albus reassured her."But her mom?" Sirius said still scared at the idea."I will send a note to Ted and Andromeda Tonks informing them that their daughter will be staying here for a week." Dumbledore replied."Albus, If you don't mind can you send a note to Arthur's mom as well?" asked Molly, "It's just that Bill, Charlie and Percy were supposed to come back after two days and if wehave to finish the memories I guess that it would take longer than that.""Of course Molly " The Headmaster smiled."So, am I going to see the memories?" Tonks asked again."Yes girl you are, but remember if you fuss about coming out of it then..." Mad eye gave a glare towards Tonks."She is a kid Mad-eye" Arthur tried to reason but Mad-eye kept his glaring contest on."I will not" Tonks said suddenly. "I will not fuss about anything and I am not a kid." She said with a glare back at Mad-eye. Everyone was taken aback by her sudden of the kids were usually afraid of Moody but Tonks seemed to be something else."Now come on everyone gather around." Dumbledore said as he gathered everyone around the pensive after sending the messages. And then all the occupants of the roomdisappeared inside the metal basin leaving the drawing room completely empty.
