Makalaurë watches the waining of Laurelinincë atop a branch of the Tyelperionincë. The lake of Cuivienén illuminates in the brilliance of the lights, bright gold mellowing to a luminous silver. The Two Trees of Cuivienén, Laurelinincë and Tyelperionincë, bear the light of their predecessors. Perhaps not as powerful as their sires, but Makalaurë was content.

The seedlings he received from Elendil the Tall, after the Battle of the Last Alliance. He had visited the White Tower of Minas Anor. The White Tree of Gondor bore fruit as Makalaurë wondered past. It felt right to plant the seedlings in Cuivienén, where the Silmarils have restored with their light. It appears while Tyelperion was the sole sire of the seedlings, the memory of Light remain. Cuivienén is almost as Aman before the Darkening.

Elemmírë

His beloved Elemmírë is still with him asundered. No joy or beauty can fill that deep empty void within him.

Elerondo had visited and was filled with awe, seeing the majesty of the Light which he had heard from his fathers. He brought many elves who wished to live in the land of their Awakening. He had promised to come back once his duty as the Herald of Gil-Galad concludes.

Gil-Galad, Arákano, will be taking his people back to Valinor. In their minds, the Age of the Firstborn is ended, and the Dominion of Men has come.

But not Makalaurë. The future belongs to all the Kindreds, and as Ñoldorán, he will guard the land given by Eru so long as he lives. He shall be the protector of the Quendi, should they seek him. He shall guide the Secondborn, if they wish to live in light and wisdom, and the Dwarrow, to the extent accepted by their pride.

Yet, it is not good for a nir to be alone. His helper and beloved, Elemmírë, he shall never see again till the end of the world, until Arda Unmarred.

In truth, Makalaurë is quite conflicted. Duty or love? To serve his people, or to uphold his betrothal vows?

In truth, Makalaurë wished he was a Man, bereft of immortality. The Secondborn were given the Gift of Men. It was very ill-understood, by the Eldar and Atani alike. Makalaurë would claim he undertsand why it is a gift now, to rejoin his beloved in Eru's embrace.

He cannot simply give up on his hroa or to perish in some way. Even before the Darkening thr Valar were set against the House of Fëanáro. To perish is to likewise languish till Arda Unmarred, and to forsake his responsibility.

He sighed as he laid against the tree, strumming the harp to compose a new song:

"Beneath the dusk in the days of old... silver threads among the gold..."

This is setting up for a future fic. No ETA on that yet but it shall be a much greater project than HKoE, and it shall be the same series.
