Chapter 6
Without Great Power
The armored man had his hand raised over to Willows head prepared to fire what looked to be a huge replusor blast at her face. In any other circumstance the young woman would have probably given up by now but self preservation is a very good motivator. Willow quickly had the nanomachines reconfigure the jets on her right foot to fire sideways before activating it and slamming her foot into the armors left leg with enough force to trip the giant armor and send it backwards which caused the grip on her to loosen enough to escape. Once she was free she quickly made it to the other side of the room and tried to calm herself down after all fighting while being nervous wasn't going to help her any.
Meanwhile on the roof at the same time that Willow was busy fighting a manic in a giant suit of armor John was on the roof waiting for Alpha-1 to locate where Gerald had placed the bomb. After all it didn't appear as if any other heroes where going to deal with it which left it up to him the guy pretending to be a hero. How did my life come to this point I am just a nerdy kid in high school and now I am trying to find a bomb to save some of my fellow students who to be honest always end up ignoring me...then again I don't really try to talk to them either, John thought to himself.
" Sir I have located the bomb its in the schools failed project storage two floors down and near the back of the building," Alpha-1 said before displaying the fastest route that John could take to the location.
" Um well...looks like my only options are to run their which could let the bomb explode and damage the building and possibly injure some of the students and staff that haven't evacuated yet or swing there and hope that I don't kill myself," John said weighing the two options before running to the edge of the building and jumping off of it. " Hope this works!"
John waited just a couple of seconds of falling before he stretched out his left arm and fired a webline guided by the web swinging program built into his suits A.I. which thankfully had guided the web to attach to the building and John quickly grabbed the line with both hands quickly swinging around to the backside of the building and through a window which shattered when he swung into it letting him into the building. Though due to this being his first time swinging on a webline like that he landed less gracefully then he would like tumbling into a roll and flipping clumsily to his feet. John then took a second to steady himself before running towards the secured door and finding the keypad to unlock it which he hacked to open.
Once the door had slowly began to open he charged inside to look for the bomb which he found rather quickly as Alpha-1had guided the fake Spider-Man to it. Once there he gave the explosive dive a quick once over and notice something very concerning.
" Shit! Alpha-1 we have a problem the bomb has a tamper detection switch on it which means that if anyone tries to disarm it it going to explode," John said looking at the bomb trying to see if there was any way to disable the tamper switch.
" Well we can't disarm the tamper switch looks like there are a ton of fail-safes any attempt to disable the switch and the bomb goes off however it seems whoever mad it made a mistake," Alpha-1 said while examining it through a scan he did of the device.
" What is the flaw Alpha-1 as we may not have enough time," John said his fear and nerves showing in his voice.
" The tamper switch isn't connected to its motion sensor so we can disable that and move the bomb out of the building which would be our safest option plus I calculated a route towards the river," the A.I progam said and John told the program to send him everything he needed to do. Once that was done got to work cutting the wires to the motion sensor in order to disable it and once that was done with he grabbed the bomb and attached it to his back with a thin web strap that he made. Once he did that he ran back out of the room and then to the window he came in though. He quickly jumped out into the city waiting a few seconds before he began swinging towards the river.
He was trying to be very careful with timing his swings as to not to run in to building and was grateful that the program he had put into the suit was doing its job helping him let go of the previous webline and attach a new one to swing from at just the right moment to avoid colliding with a building which would have not been healthy for his normal human body. Though even with the program functioning at what he expected to be tip top shape he was still fairly nervous this being his first time doing this sort of thing I mean he was zooming above the streets and cars by at least tens of stories which made John very nervous and he was trying to contain that.
Once he got to his destination he slowly brought himself down to the ground as slowly as he could mange and as soon as his feet touched the ground he began to think of ways to dispose of the bomb he had strapped to his back. ' Well then lets go with the easy way,' John thought to himself before Shooting two lines of webbing the nearby at a streetlamp. After that was done John carefully placed the bomb into his makeshift sling shot and then pulled it as tight as he could firing it into the air above the river where it exploded safely and John let out a sigh of relief before he jumped up into the air firing another web which attached to a building beginning his swing back to Horizon High. The swing back to the school was handled with a bit more confidence on John's part as he knew the program to determine his path was functioning well enough that he shouldn't make an unnecessary mistake.
He arrived back at the building landing on a street lamp outside of the building only to witness an explosion and a small suit of golden armor falling out of a window. John leapt up launching a web-line to swing over and catch the falling armor which once he let go of the web he caught it in both arms. After he had done that he quickly launched another of couple of webs to make a small net to prevent both of them from hitting the ground. The faceplate on the suit of armor opened to reveal a barley conscious Willow. Gerald stepped up towards the window of the second story lab that Willow was assigned and looked towards the web net.
" Damn it I didn't come to this school for my revenge because I figured an Avenger wouldn't show up and now Spider-Man of all people is here," Gerald said clear anger in his voice with that statement.
" Well I am the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man so of course the earlier explosions drew my attention here tin man," John said trying to mask his nervousness through the quip.
" Regardless if your here that means my revenge is a bust as that bastard must be close behind so I will take my leave now," Gerald said before firing off his boot jets and taking off for the sky to make his get away.
Well that one was close but now that its over I should probably take Willow to the nurse,' John thought to himself before he swung towards the school building with Willow draped over his shoulder. He landed on the second floor lab that was hers and after switching so that she was in a princess carry he quickly walked to the nurses office on the first floor. The nurse once he arrived took one look at him before telling John to place her on a bed in the corner of the room and after the nurse thanked him ( by calling him Spider-Man as he was still in his replica costume ) John left heading for the roof and deciding to swing home before the cops or news crews showed up since the fake hero didn't want to get called out as impostor until he found the original Spider-Man.
After he reached the roof he first, grabbed his backpack with his clothes in it, jumped off and began to swung to his house as fast and carefully as he could. It only took him fifteen minutes to arrive to his apartment building in which he launched a webline up to the roof and climbed up it to reach the roof of the building where he changed back into his normal civilian outfit. After that he went down to his apartment through the roofs stairwell. Once he went through the door of his apartment he walked up to his room and quickly went to take a nap the days events having tired him out.
It took a few hours before John woke up stumbling out of the bed and heading out towards the living room where the rest of his family was. He assumed they probably got home while he was napping though he found it a bit strange he didn't here them come into the apartment. As he made his way to the stairs stumbling the way down the stairs he turned to look at the living room and noticed what the news anchor was talking about.
" Today at Horizon High a supervillian that the students are calling the second coming of the Iron Monger," the woman on the news said and in the background the damage was clearly seen from the previous battle at the school. " The villian had apparently come to the school to attack one of the students named Willow Stark the daughter of the genius billionaire Tony Stark apparently for revenge against the billionaire for some as of yet explained reasons. His daughter is currently in the infirmary after the brutal fight with the villian and is being considered for transfer to a higher end medical facility."
John continued to make his way down the stairs while listening to the news anchor talk about the story. With each passing word he was becoming more worried about of his follow student was doing. Of course he had a feeling that she would probably be fine after all that suit was very durable. Heck this story should be big enough to get the attention of the original Spider-Man if anything which means this hero game might be over soon,' John thought to himself.
" He has apparently fled the seen after the Avenger Spider-Man appeared to the school scaring the villian away," the news anchor said as John reached the couch and sat down.
