"It has been a week since the controversial yet life changing case of Asgore Dreemurr and the Monsters of the Underground and already we are seeing changes in Ebott City. As of now, Asgore Dreemurr is a pedeatric nurse at Ebott General Hospice and despite his crimes, Mister Dreemurr is working very well with the children." The news report was quite the good news today as I watch the TV.
"You did good, kid." A hand gently presses on my head and ruffles my hair.
"I am 28, I aint a fucking kid, Eric." I playfully slap the hand off of my head as I look at the man who had been raising me the past 23 years. "Besides, I barely did anything. All I did was play on the fact all the jury were family folk."
"Still, without your intervention the Monsters would have been executed or locked away again." I watch as Eric sits next to me and begins drinking his beer. "Besides, it isn't just what happened in the courtroom that you did good with. You got out." Got out... those two words sound so plain normally but in my old line of work, those words were a death sentence. I used to be part of an underground mercenary group. Thankfully, Eric is a detective with a Yellow Soul of Justice who taught me everything I needed to know in order to wipe them out when I finally managed to get free. My role was never actually active so there wasn't much of a readjustment to worry about.
"Speaking of 'got out' I been thinking." I put my feet up on the little foot rest in front of us. "What if I went into security for the Dreemurrs? Specifically Frisk. I mean, now negotiations can officially start, they're gonna need a shield." I look over at Eric and there it is. His stupid shit eating grin and I slap his arm. "Oh, wipe that smirk off your face."
"How can I not smile? Not even a week since getting out of the underground scene and you're already making plans to go into a legit job. A job where we will work together rather than me having to avoid arresting you." Before I could react, Eric wrapped his arms around me and begun cheering as he drunk his beer.
"Come on, Eric. It's late. You should sleep. I gotta go out, see if the Dreemurrs will accept me."
"At this hour? I know it's best for your eyes but they might be sleeping." Eric has a point but the alternative is my eyes hurting from the light and a few people who dont like me being on the street.
"I'm sure it'll all be fine. Go on, get some sleep. I'll be back." I grab my door keys and wave goodbye to Eric before walking out. "Long walk to the Dreemurr house inside of Mt Ebott, here we go."
"Oh gods, I have regrets." I pant as I lean against a tree. "Why didn't I give Frisk my number after giving them my name?!" I resume walking again as I groan. "But nooooo, I instead left almost immediately after giving them my name. Now I'm gonna look suspicious as shit turning up in the middle of the night unannounced." I stop in front of the path to the Mountain that leads to where the Barrier once stood. The path now had safety hand railings for walking and I grip the railings. "C'mon, Lucy. Almost there." I stagger up the path with a groan and finally reach a security checkpoint... which was empty. "Hello? Anyone here?" I inspect the checkpoint and find some smoked dog treats. "Odd. What's with these?"
"Movement?!" I jump back as a bipedal dog slowly rose up. "Did I sense movement?"
"Yeah, hi. I'm Lucy, and I'm here t-"
"A human?! Another human?!" Great. A hyperactive guard dog.
"Doggo, what's happening here?"
"Is everything ok?" I turn towards these new voices, and there were two more bipedal dogs, both carrying axes. "Oh, you're the human from a week ago, correct? What brings you here?"
"I'm here to see Frisk..." I look over at Doggo and bite my lip, resisting the urge to pat his head. "Fuck it." I immediately begun scratching Doggo's ears gently.
"Pat? Pat pat pat?!" I giggle as Doggo gets more excited.
"If you may wait here and we shall bring Frisk to you." I look over at the other two dogs while I keep petting Doggo.
"Alright. I can wait." 5 minutes then passed and Doggo was asleep in my lap, tail still wagging as I kept petting his ears.
"Lucy!" I turn to look towards the voice only to find myself glomped. Frisk really is an affectionate person. "I got worried after you left last week." I try to reassure Frisk, but it's hard to breathe, let alone talk, when your face is being smothered. "O-oh, I'm so sorry." Frisk backs away from me and their cheeks were absolutely red with a blush.
"It's alright. I am sorry for the time of my arrival, I just dont do well in the sun." I motion to my eyes, which were glowing in the darkness thanks to my Soul. "The Light Soul really makes my eyes extra sensitive. However, I still could have tried to get in touch with you." I watch as Frisk wakes Doggo, and both me and Doggo become a little pouty.
"Come on, let's go to my home. It's a little cold out here." Frisk started walking back up the path, so I followed behind them. "A Light Soul... what does it represent?"
"Precisely what it says. It's a Twin Soul, really." I note Frisks' confusion at the mention of Twin Souls. "Twin Souls are usually from when one baby in a twin birth survives. There are, however, rare cases where the Soul of a previous baby who didn't come to full term remains and when a new fetus is formed, it creates it's own Soul and takes on the previous Soul as well but only if both Souls have the same properties and it also amplifies the properties due to twice the power. My Soul has the property of... thermal control, as does the Soul of my older brother that I had taken on."
"Oh... I think I know what you mean by Twin Soul now..." I could tell Frisk had their own story, but I weren't about to pry... not yet, anyway. Frisk stopped in front of the opening to the Mountain.
"Ya know, I had only ever been here when the Barrier was still up. Tried breaking it myself a couple of times, but... well, you know the story." I couldn't help but feel I was forgetting something. it wasn't until we stepped into the Mountain and the Dreemurr castle was in sight that I remembered what it was. "Oh yeah!" I turn to Frisk, who looks rather startled with my sudden loudness. "I'm here to ask if I can become your personal bodyguard. I know you got those sentries out there, and who knows who else, but they're all Monsters. You're gonna need a human guard to help with the political side of shit and try to get people more... agreeable." I grin widely as I watch Frisk. Before they could answer, I heard a charge of energy and instinctively dodged away from a laser.
"What are you?" I turn towards the voice, and there stood a skeleton with a blue eye. "An LV of 95 shouldn't even exist!"
