"Aubrey, I am...late for class, bye!" I ran out the bathroom and to our first period class, nearly on the verge of a panic attack. I literally burst through the class door and every pair of eyes turned to me, I froze in my spot not knowing what to do.
"Beckett, you're late, this is the second time which means detention, if your late to my class again I'll be calling home." Mrs. Beale said, "s-sorry, I wasn't trying to, my bad." I stuttered, right as I was going to my seat someone grabbed me by my shirt and pulled me out of the classroom, "what the hell!?" I swung at them, before realizing it was Aubrey, "dude!?" My voice cracked, "I should be, 'dude-ing' you, first you pull me into a bathroom, raise the suspense of something that you don't even tell me, and duck out of the place before I could ask any questions, and then, on top of everything else you make me LATE!" Aubrey yelled at me, causing some teachers in the hall to look at us.
Mrs. Beale came out in the hall, thankfully saving me from my embarrassment, and started questioning us, "what is going on between you two?" she asked, "ask Beckett, he's the one acting weird." Aubrey said, so Mrs. Beale turned to me, "uh, well I was just- it's nothing." I said quietly, looking down, "well, all I know is that you were both late to my class, twice, which means detention for both of you. Now please go in quickly and quietly and sit down." Mrs. Beale said, and we both nodded.
I sat down at my desk, putting my head down, hoping this day would just end, but as fate would have it the last person I wanted to say something to me had to open his mouth. "I hope you're ready to get your ass handed to you. My friend Tom doesn't like when people mess with me." Chicago said, I groaned before saying, "well if I could pound your face in, I'm sure your little bud won't be much of a problem." Chicago only scoffed, turning in his seat to face the front, before saying, "we'll see."
If it was any other day, I'd respond with a snarky ass comment, but I was way to drained to entertain him.
The first part of the day flew by, and before I knew it, I was sitting at a table with my friends. "Are you ok?" Stacie asked, when she noticed I wasn't talking as much, "yeah, just a little drained." I took a risk looking up at Aubrey, and caught her eye's lingering on me, so I quickly looked back down at my lap, "well I hope you feel better later, word around the halls is that Tom is looking for you." Stacie said. Which by the way, made me feel a lot worse at the time. I looked up at Chloe and she had a face full of concern, I mouthed "It's ok." To her. I could still feel Aubrey's eyes on me but still never looked over.
Lunch ended and I headed to literature arts, when I got to the class there was a piece of paper taped to the door, that read, "sorry for the inconvenience, but today you will be dispersed for class." There was another paper attached to it, that had where each student was suppose to go. I got an uneasy feeling, but chose to ignore it, rather than dwell on it and headed to my class for the day which was another literature teacher. When me and about 4 other kids went up to the class door, the teacher was already there greeting other students coming in her class. I walked up to her and introduced myself, "hi, I'm Beckett, and we are dispersed to your class today." she looked at me and sighed, "ok, chose any desk in the back." she said, I walked through the door and could feel a few other students looking at me, as I walked to the back someone stuck out their foot and tripped me, I caught myself on a desk, and quickly recovered looking at them, I was shocked to see a familiar face. "Tom..." I whispered under my breath, narrowing my eyes as he smirked. I just walked to the back choosing to ignore him. Some time passed before he started messing with me again, this time he threw a piece of paper at me that read, "if u think your so bad meat me at the sqwhere at 3 pm" he was not very good at spelling obviously, but aside from that, I threw back a piece of paper that said, "alright, but no backing out now." When he read it he looked at me and smirked.
The rest of class I felt anxious, but didn't let it show. After that class ended I went to the restroom and locked the door so no one could get in and just let all my emotions from the day out, I sat in a corner silently crying, barely being able to catch my breath. The only thing I could think was, 'who was I kidding, I'm not who everyone thinks I am, I'm not some cool wannabe jock, I'm just another fake'.
All these thoughts flooded through me like a ton of bricks, I didn't know how much time had passed but I recollected myself and splashed some water on my face, before unlocking the door and walking out. I was on my way to the gym, but the bell rang signaling that the class had ended and the halls started to flood, so I just headed to my dance class.
Upon getting there, I seen the girls already there waiting outside the class, I walked up to them and they started talking frantically, "calm down, I have no idea what either of you are saying." I said, they stopped talking and Chloe took the lead, "where have you been, everyone was saying you missed your last class and haven't seen you since 4th period?" she asked, "it's not important, I'm fine now." I said, ignoring the question, not looking any of them in the eyes and instead looking at my shoes. Thankfully the five minute bell rang and we headed in to class, Gail walked in shortly after the bell and started class. "Are you sure you're ok?" Stacie asked me, she was sitting beside me on my right, "yeah, I'm fine." I nodded, I wasn't paying attention to what Gail was saying until she said something about stretching and getting into position.
After class ended I walked out of class and waited for the girls, when they got there I asked them the question I'd been wondering all day, "where's the square?" they all looked at me, showing the same disappointment that a mother would show when the school called home, "Beckett, don't tell me, you got challenged to a fight?" Aubrey shook her head, "what happens if I say I did?" I asked, "by who?" Chloe asked, right as I was about to answer everyone's phones chimed, signaling a message was just sent.
"Tom vs Beck. Who will win? Fight at the square at 3." Stacie read aloud, "surprise?" I said, but it came out more as a question. "ARE YOU DUMB!? You can't fight Tom right now, basketball tryouts are this week, if you get into another fight coach will never let you join the team. Hell you may not even still be walking to tryout!" Chloe said. "Well what should I do?"
A/N: I was thinking of a ship name for Stacie and Beckett, because obviously Steca won't work. So I welcome to you, Steckett. It's the best I came up with, but if you have something that is 'better' suggests it.
