A/N: There is some Hank and Olivia in this chapter but it's centered a little more on Ed and Diana. I don't own any of the characters except my own.
Hank had dozed off for a little while and then Olivia started waking up.
"Hank?"
"Huh?"
Hank opened his eyes.
"Hey."
"Sleepy."
"Go back to sleep then. Get your rest."
"Don't leave."
"I'm not going anywhere."
Hank kissed her and then she fell back to sleep for a while. They moved her back to her room. She had woken up and was a little more alert by that time. Erin was back and was in with them.
"There she is."
"Here I am."
"How are you feeling?"
"Right now, I feel nothing. Good drugs."
"Everyone from Chicago is still here. Ed and Kara left but came back."
Diana came in.
"How's the patient?"
"Right now, she feels nothing."
"That's a good thing."
"You ok?"
"Ed said he wants to take us to meet his family. What if they don't like us?"
"If they don't, I doubt it'll change how he feels about you. You're already married."
"I know but still."
"Don't worry about it. Since when do you care what anyone thinks? You chose to have a baby on your own."
"I know but I really wasn't planning to ever meet his family."
"It's a big step for you. He really wants to do this."
"I just wish you and Olivia were going to be there with us."
"I was with him a few months and never met anyone except his cousin. Even then, I don't think he knew we were together. When are you doing this?"
"Tonight."
"He got a text from one of his sisters earlier. He said he thought it was time to introduce you two to his family. You and Kara are his family now too and nothing will ever change that."
Then Ed came in.
"How's it goin'?"
"I feel nothing right now. These drugs are great."
"Honey, I'm nervous about meeting your family. What if they don't like me?"
"You'll be fine. I called them when Kara and I went to grab lunch and I explained everything."
"Everything?"
"Everything. They are so excited about meeting the two of you. I should warn you though. It's probably going to be the entire family, including my aunts, uncles and cousins."
Diana rolled her eyes.
"I told Fin that if he needed me, to call me."
"Ok."
"Did you hang out with SVU today?"
"No. I had IAB stuff to do today. I recused myself from the investigation into the accident."
"That makes sense. Does everyone else agree that it should be investigated?"
"Oh, yeah. They also know that I'm going to be filling in for Olivia."
Olivia fell asleep again and they knew she had because she was snoring.
"Do you want me to stay here again tonight?"
"No. Stay with Jay, Olive and the kids."
"Ok."
"How was your lunch with Olive?"
"It was great."
"Good. I'll be back."
Hank stepped out to go to the washroom and then he told everyone else to go back to their hotel. He told Jay that Erin was going home with him and that maybe he could call and have the kids talk to Olivia tomorrow. He was fine with that. Everyone except Jay, Al and Trudy left and then Hank went back to Olivia's room.
"Did you want to grab something to eat while we're still here?"
"Nah. Olinsky and Platt are still here."
"Ok."
Erin kissed Olivia's forehead and then she gave Hank and hug and a kiss.
"Love you."
"Love you too."
"Me too, Erin."
"Love you, Mom."
Erin left and went to find Jay. They left and headed to the house. Diana and Ed both kissed Olivia's forehead and Diana hugged Hank before they went to get Kara. They headed home, so Diana could change before they headed to meet Ed's family. Ed drove to the pub and then they got out of the SUV. Ed took Diana's hand and the 3 of them walked in. It wasn't one of the busier nights, so just his parents and siblings were there.
"Hey, everyone."
"Hey, Junior.
"This is Diana and this is Kara. This is my mom Colleen, my dad Ed, my brothers Brian and Shawn and my sisters Patty, Bridget and Erin. Where's everyone else?"
"At home. Let me look at you."
Colleen pulled Ed into a hug.
"You don't visit enough."
"I know, Ma."
"Sit."
The 3 of them sat down at the bar.
"So, is this where you grew up?"
"Yep. I washed dishes young, I bussed tables and I tended bar."
"Wait, you tended bar?"
"I did."
"Are you going to do this again now that you're retired?"
"I haven't decided yet."
"Eddie, when did you retire?"
"Just recently."
"Why didn't you tell any of us about your family and about you retiring?"
"The thing with us getting married just kind of happened. We started seeing each other in March and we got engaged around my birthday. We got married a month ago, so obviously we weren't engaged very long. I never said anything because I wasn't sure how the family felt about me in general after what happened with Eugene last year."
"He brought that on himself."
"I could have lost my job because of him. A part of me wanted to put my papers in then and just retire. I was seeing someone then and I almost cost her her job. Her unit was the one doing the investigation and she never told anyone that we were seeing each other."
"You never have to worry about us not supporting you. Eugene never should have done what he did and he's where he belongs. How long were you seeing this other woman?"
"It was less than 6 months. She had developed feelings for someone else and she wasn't being honest with herself about those feelings, so she wasn't being honest with me either. They've been together for over a year and they got married 7 months ago. Olivia and I are still close and her husband and I are friends. Olivia and Diana found out they're half-sisters and Diana has known Olivia's husband Hank for years."
"You're a single mom?"
"Until recently, yes. This is actually the first relationship I've been in."
"You had to have been involved with her father, right?"
"No. I was artificially inseminated. I decided that if I wasn't in a relationship by the time I was 40, I was going to have a baby on my own, so that's what I did. It wasn't easy but we did ok. She did miss out on a lot by not having a father growing up. Hank did a lot around the house for me and she had him wrapped around her little finger ever since I can remember."
"You two were never romantically involved?"
"No. Kara was 3 when Hank's first wife Camille died from cancer and it took him a while before he was ready to move on. We've known each other a long time and we were both with the Chicago Police Department for years."
"What type of cancer did she die from?"
"Ovarian."
"My mother-in-law died from that. How old are you, Sweetie?"
"I'm 10, Ma'am."
"We're family now, so if you wanted to, you could call me Grandma. I think that would be ok."
Kara had tears running down her cheeks.
"I've never had a grandma before."
Colleen wrapped her arms around Kara. Diana told them about her past and what she did before they ordered something to eat. Ed went to help himself to stuff behind the bar. He watched his entire family interact with his new wife and daughter.
"Pop, you still playin' poker?"
"Always. Why? You interested in joining us?"
"No. I was just askin'. I have a group that I play with pretty much every Friday night. We play for fun usually."
"Good group of people?"
"Yeah. Olivia's husband Hank is retired from the Chicago Police Department and we normally play at their house. Olivia is a Lieutenant, so her Sergeant and one of her Detectives play with us and then the other two are lawyers. If Hank's daughter and his former squad is visiting, some of them will play as well."
"Is this the Olivia that was held hostage by that William Lewis?"
"Yep."
"You two just found out you were related?"
"Yes. I moved here from Chicago about 6 months ago. She and Hank have two adopted kids. Kara stayed in Chicago until the school year ended. At first she was staying with her best friend but they started not getting along. She then stayed with Hank's daughter and her now husband. She's known Erin her entire life. Erin and Jay got married just before Ed and I did. After Hank and Olivia came back from Chicago with Kara, we sprung the news on them that we decided to get married. The 4 of us and the 3 kids went to Paris for a week."
"I had invited Olivia and Noah last year but we broke up. Diana arranged the entire trip for my birthday, which included Disney. Kara stayed with Hank and Olivia while Diana and I went to the wine country and spent the night. I'd like to take my girls to Ireland."
"We were thinking about going next year, so maybe we could go together."
"We'll see what we can work out."
Ed's sister brought the food out. Kara took a bite of her cheeseburger.
"This is so good! Mom, try this."
Diana took a bite.
"Oh, wow! This is good."
"They've gotten awards for the food."
"Wow! We should come here with Aunt Olivia, Uncle Hank, Noah and Rachel when Aunt Olivia is feeling better."
"Yeah, we should."
"What happened?"
Ed told his family what happened the day before.
"She took the brunt of it and you had nothing happen to you?"
"That's exactly it. I was scared when she was unconscious. I still care about her and she's now my sister-in-law. I stayed with her until Hank got to the hospital."
"Do you think if she hadn't gotten together with this Hank guy and you hadn't met Diana, you would have gotten married?"
"Probably not. She told me she didn't love me that way. I'm fine with the way things turned out and we still care about each other."
Colleen walked over to Ed and kissed his forehead.
"My children's happiness is the only thing that matters to me. You know I never liked the other one you were married to and I don't blame you for wanting to wait. She did a number on you."
"I've known Olivia a long time and we didn't always see eye to eye. She was one of the first people I learned to trust besides family in a long time. She stood by me during that investigation last year when no one else really did and I'm sure mostly everyone in the NYPD wanted me to go to prison. I'm sure Eugene would have had no problems letting me take the fall for something he did."
"None of the family blames you for any of that."
"There has always been something a little off with Eugene anyway, even when we were growing up."
"Even as kids, he would blame me for stuff he did. He became a priest? I want to make a more conscious effort to spend more time with all of you. I think my job was getting in my way and I just couldn't handle it anymore. When I transferred out of IAB and into Hostage Negotiation, I felt like there was some hope that things would get better. After Olivia and I broke up, I wasn't so sure at first but then I started spending time with Hank and the others. Hank and I didn't have to become friends but we did."
"You definitely seem more relaxed now. You always seemed so tense before."
"I blame it on the job."
"Diana, whatever you have done to him, please keep it up. You have really brought him out of his shell. We were starting to think he was going to live like a hermit for the rest of his life."
"I can't take all the credit. Olivia deserves some of it. When she's feeling better, maybe Ed and I can have you over for dinner and you can meet Olivia and Hank."
"We're closed on Sundays, so those tend to work better for us."
"Ok. I will keep that in mind."
"You can meet our spouses and kids as well."
"Kelly, my youngest is 10, so maybe the girls can do something together sometime. My son Connor is 12. I just have the two. Everyone else has four. My husband and I decided we only wanted two kids."
"I wanted more than one but I knew it was a risk at 40. That sounds great. Kara hasn't really met anyone here yet. I was able to get her registered at the school near our house."
"Where do you live?"
Diana told then where they lived.
"No kidding. That's the neighborhood we live in."
"Olivia and Hank are close by too, which is great. Hank's daughter-in-law Olive and her 3 kids live with them."
"Is their last name by any chance Voight?"
"Yes."
"My husband works where she works."
"Wow! Small world."
"It is. I'm glad to know that my big brother lives so close. Maybe we can have lunch sometime."
"Yeah, maybe."
"You ready for dessert?"
"Sure."
They decided what they wanted and then someone went to get it. Everyone sat and talked for a while. By the time they had decided to call it a night and head home, Kara could barely hold her eyes open.
"We should go."
"Yeah, we should. Someone can barely hold her eyes open."
They got up and then hugged everyone.
"Diana, it was so nice meeting you. You too, Kara."
"You too."
"It was nice meeting all of you too and hopefully we will see everyone again soon."
"I'm sure we will. We're family now."
Ed, Diana and Kara hugged everyone, left and headed home. As soon as Kara got into the car, she fell asleep.
"I think they liked you both."
"We liked them too. I was a little nervous about meeting them."
"They can be a little overwhelming sometimes."
"Erin seems to really look up to you."
"We all got along but Erin and I were pretty close growing up, even though there's 10 years between us. Of the 3 brothers, I spent the most time with her as a baby and I was pretty protective of her. Her son's middle name is Edward."
"Can you stop at Hank and Olivia's? I need to talk to Erin about something."
"Yeah, sure. I'll stay here with Kara."
"Ok."
Ed drove to Hank and Olivia's and when they got there, Diana got out and went to ring the doorbell. Olive answered it.
"Hey, Diana."
"Hey."
"Come on in."
"Thanks."
Diana walked in and they headed into the kitchen. Mostly everyone from Chicago was there as was Amanda.
"Erin."
"Hey."
"Can you do a favor for me?"
"Of course."
"See if you can get Hank to get some proper sleep tomorrow. I don't think he needs to be there with her the entire time she's there. I know he came home and took a shower, while Ed and Kara stayed at the hospital. I get he doesn't want to leave her but he cannot be comfortable sleeping in that chair."
"Believe me, I understand and I will try to convince him to come home at least for a while. Mostly everyone is leaving tomorrow but Jay and I are staying through the weekend."
"What time is your flight?"
"Noon."
"Trudy, did you want to have breakfast with me tomorrow?"
"Sure."
"Great."
"Where's your hubby?"
"He's out in the SUV. Kara fell asleep."
"I'd like to get to know him a little bit better."
"Maybe we can drop Kara off here in the morning and then Ed and I can meet you. He can drop me off at the office and then he wants to go see Olivia anyway."
"We want to stop to see her before we leave anyway. Olinsky and I kept Hank company after everyone else left and she seemed to be doing pretty well."
"She seemed like it when we left. I should go. Why don't we meet you at your hotel at 8?"
"That sounds fine."
"Ok. Goodnight everyone."
"Goodnight."
Diana left and then she and Ed went home. They woke Kara up, so she could got into the house to get ready for bed. Everyone at the Voight's left and headed back to the hotel to go to bed. The next morning, everyone got up to get ready for their day. Ed and Diana dropped Kara off at Hank and Olivia's and went to meet Trudy for breakfast. After breakfast, they took Trudy back to the hotel, so she could get her stuff together. Ed took Diana to work and went to see Olivia. Everyone else had gone to see her as well and Hank went home for a while. That afternoon, the group from Chicago headed home and Olivia started her therapy. They told her the harder she worked, the quicker she would be able to go home.
