Chapter 16: Work Mode
The plane soared through the skies, carrying Jade towards the nostalgic embrace of Kidtopia Studios in Orlando. As the miles stretched between her and Los Angeles, memories began to weave through her consciousness like a series of vivid flashbacks.
She remembered the first time she walked onto the set of Kidtopia, the anticipation bubbling within her. The vibrant colors of the studio, the laughter of children echoing in the hallways – it was a time when innocence and excitement filled her heart.
There was a particular scene she recalled filming, a funny mishap on set that had the entire crew bursting into laughter. The camaraderie among the cast and crew was palpable, creating an atmosphere that felt like a second home.
As the plane descended towards Orlando, Jade's mind flashed to the day she landed a lead role. The elation, the cheers, the sense of accomplishment – it was a moment etched into her memory. Kidtopia had given her the taste of success, and for a while, it was a place where dreams came true.
But intertwined with these happy recollections were moments of strain and disillusionment. She remembered the pressure, the expectations, and the realization that the shiny facade of the entertainment industry could hide its darker sides. The price of fame, the compromises she had to make – these were shadows that cast themselves across the sunny memories.
The plane landed, and Jade stepped onto the familiar ground of Orlando, where the past and the present collided. She felt a mix of emotions – nostalgia for the joyous times and a subtle tension as she confronted the ghosts of her past.
Kidtopia Studios awaited her, a place that held both the echoes of triumph and the whispers of challenges. As she embarked on this journey back to where it all began, Jade couldn't help but wonder what revelations and reflections awaited her amid the familiar sets and hallways of Kidtopia.
The Genius High set buzzed with energy as the climactic scene unfolded. Jade, in her role as the villain Emma, stood at the center of a futuristic lair, surrounded by a group of exceptionally bright and gifted children, the little geniuses she had managed to outsmart throughout the series.
The set design reflected the complexity of Emma's mind – walls adorned with intricate diagrams and plans, technology humming in the background, and an air of calculated malevolence that permeated the atmosphere.
The little geniuses, in their super genius uniforms, stared at Emma with a mix of fear and curiosity. Jade, fully immersed in her character, allowed Emma's righteous arrogance to seep through.
"Listen closely, my little prodigies," Emma declared, her voice dripping with a sinister charm. "You see, being gifted isn't enough. It's what you do with that gift that matters. And what I've chosen to do is embrace the darkness, the shadows that others fear."
The children exchanged uneasy glances, uncertain of the revelation unfolding before them.
"You're all destined for greatness," Emma continued, pacing with calculated steps. "But not the kind of greatness that the world applauds. No, you'll be great in ways they can't comprehend. Imagine if you can't forget anything you ever see. It gives you time to plot out all the angles and plan the perfect crime."
The geniuses, now wide-eyed, absorbed every word, torn between the allure of Emma's charisma and the fear of the path she was revealing.
One brave genius mustered the courage to ask the question that lingered in the air, "Why? Why did you become evil?"
Emma, with a twisted smile, looked directly into the camera, breaking the fourth wall as she shared the motivation behind her character's villainy. "Because, my dear, if I failed, I knew I would get it right the next time. Failure is not an option for those who see the world as I do."
The revelation hung in the air, leaving an indelible mark on the young minds that had once looked up to Emma as a mentor. As the scene unfolded, Jade, immersed in the complexity of her character, relished in the intricacies of playing the villain
Shortly after wrapping, Jade called a car to get to her hotel, but before she confirmed, Someone who looked just like Tori walked up to her. "Tori?" Jade said blinking.
"Shelby…" The other woman said. "I did say I was Tori so they'd let me in. sometimes having this face helps."
Jade's eyebrows furrowed in confusion as the Tori look-alike introduced herself as Shelby. She glanced at the other two girls, standing with Shelby. While she knew of the sisters, Cat's gaze made her feel like she was under scrutiny.
"That's Trina, and this is Cat," Shelby said as if trying to reassure Jade.
Jade smiled politely, still processing the unexpected encounter. Trina, with a directness characteristic of her personality, spoke up. "We need to talk to you, Jade."
The women headed to a local bar in Orlando. They sat together at a table with drinks in hand. Trina and Cat exchanged glances, gauging each other's reactions. Trina started, "We've been watching Tori's lives, you know?"
"Have you been hearing the things she's saying?" Cat asked looking at her best friend's girlfriend.
Jade nodded, a bit taken aback by the sudden scrutiny. "Not really, but I've been caught up with work lately. What's going on?"
Shelby, with a hint of concern, leaned in. "Tori's been talking about you a lot. Like, a lot a lot. We're a bit worried."
Jade frowned, the weight of responsibility settling on her shoulders. "I didn't realize it was that serious."
"Why didn't she come with you?" Trina asked.
Jade sighed, "She's got commitments in L.A., I honestly didn't even know she was from here or I would have had her come."
"We need to know, Jade, how do you feel about Tori?" Shelby asked
Jade met the questioning gazes of Trina, Shelby, and Cat, each of them waiting for her response. She chose her words carefully, not revealing the fabricated nature of her relationship with Tori. "It's complicated, but I didn't intend to hurt her. I didn't know she felt this strongly."
Trina's expression softened slightly, concern evident in her eyes. "Tori's been through a lot, Jade. We just want to make sure she's okay."
"I get that," Jade replied, her tone earnest. "I care about her, too. I didn't expect things to get this intense."
Shelby crossed her arms, her concern deepening. "What are you going to do about it, Jade? You can't just leave things hanging like this."
"I know," Jade sighed, feeling the weight of the situation. "I need to talk to her. Figure out where we stand."
Cat, who had been silent, finally spoke up. "Good. Because Tori deserves to be with someone who genuinely cares about her."
Jade nodded, acknowledging the truth in Cat's words. "I'll talk to her."
Trina looked at Jade with a mix of empathy and caution. "Good. Just don't play with her feelings, okay? Tori deserves better than that."
"I won't," Jade promised, a sense of responsibility settling in. As they continued their conversation, Jade grappled with the realization that the pretend relationship had consequences far beyond her expectations.
That night as she settled into bed, Jade tuned in to Tori's channel she was doing a cityscape across her face. It was ingenious, but As Jade watched Tori's livestream, a growing sense of unease settled within her. Tori's demeanor appeared erratic, and her words seemed to dance on the edge of coherence. The worry in Jade's chest deepened as she observed Tori's behavior, which seemed more than just an eccentricity.
Without hesitation, Jade reached for her phone, swiftly changing her flight details to the earliest available. She dialed Tori's sisters, urgency in her voice as she explained the situation. "Something's not right with Tori. I don't know if she's okay. Please come to LA as soon as you can."
Tori's well-being was now a priority, and Jade felt a sense of responsibility to ensure she was safe. The wait for her sisters to arrive felt agonizingly long, and Jade could only hope that Tori's condition wasn't as dire as it seemed through the screen.
As the plane touched down in LA, Jade's mind raced with worry. She knew she needed to find Tori, unravel the mysteries of her behavior, and provide the support she seemed to desperately require.
