Chapter 23: Scaling Up

Tori sat at the kitchen table, flipping through the audition script, her brow furrowed in concentration. Jade leaned against the counter, watching her with a mixture of amusement and concern.

"Do you think I should be going on auditions right now?" Tori asked, glancing up from the pages.

Jade considered for a moment before replying, "Well, you're not in the union, so technically you're not bound by the strike. Plus, even if you do audition, they won't start production until the strike is over. No production team worth their mettle would break the picket lines."

Tori nodded, still unsure. "But wouldn't it be better to show solidarity with the other actors? I mean, I don't want to be seen as crossing the picket line."

Jade pushed herself off the counter and walked over to Tori, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "I understand your concern, but remember, you're not a member of the union yet. You have to do what's best for your career right now. Besides, once the strike is over, they'll be clamoring for actors like you."

Tori sighed, feeling torn between her desire to support her fellow actors and her own career ambitions. "I just don't want to feel like I'm betraying anyone."

"You're not betraying anyone, Tori," Jade said softly. "You're just doing what you need to do to succeed in this industry. And trust me, when the time comes, you'll be ready to stand with your fellow actors again."

Tori smiled gratefully at Jade, feeling reassured by her words. "Thanks, Jade. I needed to hear that."

Jade returned the smile, squeezing Tori's shoulder gently. "Anytime, babe. Now, go nail that audition. I'll be here cheering you on every step of the way."

As Tori nervously sifted through the audition script, a wave of uncertainty washed over her. She felt a pang of doubt about her ability to deliver a stellar performance, especially now that she was medicated. Turning to Jade, she mustered the courage to ask for help.

"Jade, do you think you could help me get ready for this audition?" Tori's voice was tinged with anxiety as she looked up at her girlfriend.

Jade's response was immediate and reassuring. With a warm smile, she nodded and said, "Of course, babe. I'll drop everything to help you."

Tori felt a rush of gratitude for Jade's unwavering support. Together, they dove into the preparation process. Jade was surprisingly helpful and loving, far from the prickly persona that most people associated with her. She patiently listened as Tori read through the script multiple times, absorbing every line and nuance.

After Tori had familiarized herself with the material, Jade offered invaluable pointers and suggestions to enhance her performance. They practiced the scenes together, with Jade offering gentle encouragement and constructive feedback along the way.

As they worked through the audition script, Tori began to feel a newfound sense of confidence growing within her. With Jade by her side, she knew that she had the support and guidance she needed to give it her all.

"Thank you, Jade," Tori said, her voice filled with gratitude. "I couldn't do this without you."

Jade smiled warmly, her eyes reflecting pride and admiration for her girlfriend. "You've got this, Tori. Just remember to be yourself and let your talent shine through."

With Jade's words of encouragement echoing in her mind, Tori felt a renewed sense of determination.

As Tori stepped into the audition building, her nerves began to fray at the edges. The familiar sensation of anxiety crept in, tightening its grip around her chest. She tried to shake off the feeling, reminding herself to stay focused and confident.

But as she waited in the crowded lobby, surrounded by other hopeful actors, the anxiety swelled within her until it threatened to consume her entirely. Her heart raced, her palms grew clammy, and she struggled to catch her breath.

Just as panic threatened to overwhelm her, a familiar voice cut through the chaos. It was Andre, her friend from the picket line, who had spotted her distress from across the room. He made his way over to her, offering a comforting presence in the midst of her turmoil.

"Hey, Tori, you okay?" Andre's voice was steady and reassuring as he sat down beside her.

Tori nodded, unable to find her voice amidst the rush of emotions. She felt a wave of relief wash over her as Andre's calming presence enveloped her.

"It's just nerves," she finally managed to say, her voice trembling slightly.

Andre nodded understandingly. "I get it. But you know what? Use that energy. Let it fuel you in the audition. Turn that anxiety into passion, into raw emotion. Trust me, it'll make your performance even more powerful."

Tori listened to Andre's words, finding solace in his guidance. She took a deep breath, drawing strength from his words and the newfound resolve within her.

As they walked together to the audition room, Tori felt a sense of camaraderie and solidarity with Andre. They exchanged encouraging words and supportive smiles, their shared experience forging a bond between them.

When Tori stepped into the audition room, she channeled all of her pent-up anxiety and fear into her performance. Every line, every gesture was infused with raw emotion and intensity, fueled by the adrenaline coursing through her veins.

As she left the audition room, Tori felt a sense of pride and accomplishment wash over her. She may not have been perfect, but she had given it her all. And for now, that was enough.

Tori was lost as she and Jade made out one afternoon. They had decided not to go to the picket line that day, as Jade was in a particularly amorous mood.

They had been in bed all morning when Tori's phone rang. The Latina was prepared to ignore it but the actres disengaged from suckling on a breast and looked at the phone, sent the call to voicemail and turned it on to listen to it real time and went back to what she had been doing.

Tori shivered in delight as the two listened intently as the voicemail played, Jade's lips trailing kisses along Tori's neck as they waited to hear the message. When the news of Tori's callback came through, Jade felt a surge of excitement mingled with concern for her girlfriend's reaction.

As Tori stiffened beside her, Jade sensed her apprehension and sat up, her eyes meeting Tori's with a mixture of reassurance and understanding. She reached out to gently cup Tori's cheek, her touch tender and comforting.

"It's okay, babe," Jade said softly, her voice laced with warmth. "A callback is a good sign. It means they liked your initial audition and want to see more of you. It's a step closer to landing the role."

Tori nodded, her expression still tinged with uncertainty. "But what if I'm not ready? What if I mess it up?"

Jade shook her head, a confident smile playing on her lips. "You're more than ready, Tori. You've been working hard, and you've got talent and passion to spare. Trust me, you're going to nail it."

Tori's shoulders relaxed slightly at Jade's words, a flicker of hope lighting up her eyes. She leaned into Jade's touch, seeking solace and support in her girlfriend's embrace.

"Thanks, Jade," Tori murmured, her voice tinged with gratitude. "I don't know what I'd do without you."

Jade smiled, her heart swelling with love for the woman beside her. "You'll never have to find out," she said, pressing a gentle kiss to Tori's lips. "I'll always be here for you, every step of the way."
