Chapter 12
Kira sighed as she glared at the bowl of soup in front of her.
"Kira, it's just soup. It's not going to kill you." Tommy said, making her turn her glare on him. "It's either soup or I blend something." She grumbled but ate the soup anyway, not in the mood to clean up again if he uses the blender.
"Hey guys." They turned and saw Conner walk into the kitchen. "Jaw still hurting, Kira?" He asked as he saw the soup, the slight growling sound she made the only answer he needed.
"It's an unusual side effect from what Tanya said." Tommy said, laughing slightly at Kira stuck her tongue out at him. "Apparently she always gets it for the couple of days after chemo, and no matter how many painkillers she takes, she still can't chew without being in pain."
"And the no talking?" Conner asked as he sat down at the table. "Not that I mind. Hey!" He exclaimed as Kira kicked his shin.
"Hurts to talk." She grumbled, making Tommy lift his mug to hide a smirk. "Bad jaw. Massive ulcers. Bloody chemo."
"Not that we mind, but to what do we owe the visit, Conner?" Tommy asked, putting his hand on Kira's leg as he sat next to her.
"Hayley asked me to make sure Kira hadn't killed you yet." He replied with a slight smirk as Kira bit back a laugh. "She said something about Elsa calling to say you had called in sick."
"Ok, I may have stayed here today." Tommy said with a slight laugh as he wrapped his arm around Kira's shoulder and pulled her close. "But since I finally have my girlfriend back after 4 months, I wasn't about to go to work and leave her."
"Ok, now I feel sick." Conner muttered, making Kira throw a towel at him.
"Plus, when I tried to leave someone wouldn't let me." He said, smiling at Kira who just shrugged and smiled back. "How was training?"
"Oh, you know, kinda boring." He said, making Kira frown. "I'm not a massive fan of running drills like we did today. I'd rather just play games." Kira and Tommy shared a look before Kira opened the laptop next to her, spinning it around to show Conner that she was looking at a plot of land for sale. "This is in Reefside. You guys thinking of building a new house?"
"It's not for us." Tommy said, pulling a piece of paper out and passing it to him. "It's for you." Conner looked at the paper and sighed, looking up with a sheepish expression.
"Where did you get this?" He asked, looking down at the plan he had drawn for his idea of a soccer camp.
"You handed it in with an assignment when you were in my class." Tommy said, making Conner shake his head. "I was going to give it back, but Kira suggested keeping it to give back to you when you needed it."
"Or as a bribe." She mumbled, making Conner glare as she smiled sweetly at him.
"The land we found would be perfect, if you still wanted to set up your camp." Tommy said, making Conner look at them in shock.
"You want me to buy this land?" He asked, unsure of what to do. "I guess I can talk to the bank and see if I can get a loan." Kira shared a look with Tommy, but their bracelets going off interrupted their conversation.
"Guess Zeltrax didn't want to stay put for long." Tommy muttered as they stood up and hurried down into the lab. He sat at the computer and frowned at what he saw. "Ok, I guess it wasn't Zeltrax."
"What is it?" Conner asked as he and Kira stood behind Tommy.
"There's a strange energy signature coming from a warehouse downtown." He said, making Conner and Kira share looks.
"Strange how?" Kira asked, the words coming out quiet and slightly mumbled as she tried to talk without moving her mouth much.
"It's similar to the signal I got from the DinoZord eggs." He said, frowning at the screen. "If I've found the signal, then it's safe to say that Zeltrax has probably found it too."
"We need to find it." Conner said, stepping away from the computer. "We can't risk Zeltrax getting a Zord again." Kira nodded and moved towards him, only for Tommy and Conner to frown.
"Kira, maybe you should stay here." Tommy said, only to flinch as Kira turned around with a glare and her arms crossed. "Zeltrax might turn up, and we know that he wants you for some reason."
"Or he's using it as a distraction for me to be alone here." She said, wincing slightly at the pain as she talked.
"Kira's right, Tommy." Conner said, making Tommy glare at him. "Don't look at me like that. You stay here and monitor the cameras in the area. Let us know if something happens. And if Zeltrax does show up, then you call Ethan and Trent and surprise him."
"Conner…" Tommy started.
"I'm the leader. And I say Kira goes with me." He replied, a serious look on his face. "I'll keep her safe."
"Fine. Look after her." He replied, making Conner nod.
"You ready?" Conner asked as he looked at Kira.
"Ready." She replied. They flicked their wrists, making the morphers appear in place of their bracelets. "Dino Thunder! Power up! Ha!" They jumped onto their bikes once they were morphed and sped towards the warehouse. They parked up outside and jumped off the bikes, cautiously walking into the unit.
"How's the mouth?" Conner asked, glancing at Kira as they walked.
"Better." She replied, fiddling with the scanner she grabbed from the lab. "I might just stay in morph for the next couple of weeks. Avoid the side effects."
"What does the scanner say?" He asked, looking as she used the scanner to search for the energy signature.
"We're close." She replied, looking at the screen as she moved the scanner. "This way." They walked through the warehouse, Conner looking around them as he did.
"What is this place?" He asked, looking at the boxes and various items around.
"I think it's storage for some company." She replied. "Behind this box." She said, putting the scanner down as Conner helped her to push a box out of the way. They both shared a look as Kira raised her morpher to her mouth. "Hey Tommy, I think we've found the signal."
"What is it?" Tommy asked.
"Eggs." Conner replied with a frown. "There's three. One red, one blue and one yellow."
"So they may not be Zords…" Tommy said, his mind running through the various possibilities of what could be inside them. "Bring them back and we'll scan them."
"Got it." She replied before lowering her wrist, grabbing the backpack that Conner had brought with them. "What do you think is in them?" She asked as they put the eggs carefully into the bag, zipping it closed.
"We'll know soon enough." He replied as they stood up. "Hopefully something that will keep the Raptors busy and stop them bugging us."
"Those eggs aren't for you." A voice snapped, making them spin around to see a monster that looked like a combination of a raptor, a pterodactyl and a shark.
"Great. Just what we wanted." Kira grumbled as she and Conner slipped into fighting stances.
"You're not getting these eggs!" Conner snapped. The monster ran at them, causing them to jump apart to avoid being hit. Conner and Kira played keep away with the backpack, passing and throwing it between each other as they fought the monster, both managing to land various hits as well. Conner threw the bag to Kira, who flipped over the monster as she caught the bag and kicked the monster as she landed. She was about to spin around when she was hit by one of the wings on the back of the monster, sending her to the ground.
"Kira!" Conner called, running to her.
"Get the bag to the lab." She said, passing the bag to him as she stood up.
"What? What about you?" He asked, his helmet hiding his concern.
"I need to kick some ass." She muttered, making him back up slightly before leaving the warehouse.
"Hey! Bring those eggs back!" The monster yelled, attempting to run after Conner, only for Kira to stand in his way.
"You're not the only one with wings." She snapped. "Super Dino Mode!" The white diamonds on her suit elongated into small spikes and her suit stretched at the back to form wings that stretched form hand to hand. She jumped off a box next to her and flew at the monster, striking it multiple times with her wings and landing kicks. She pushed off the wall and landed a two footed kick to the monster, sending it flying into a pile of crates and smashing them.
"This isn't over!" The monster hissed as it stood up, jumping into the invisiportal that opened above it. Kira sighed in relief and took a moment to gather herself before jumping on her bike and speeding back to the lab. She entered the lab and parked her bike in the corner, looking over at Conner and Tommy in the centre of the room with the three eggs placed on a scanner.
"Kira, are you alright?" Tommy asked as he walked over to her.
"I'm fine." She replied, smiling under her helmet. Tommy put an arm around her shoulder and led her to the sofa, sitting her down before giving her a nod. "Power down." She felt the exhaustion hit her like a ton of bricks, and groaned as she leant forward and put her head on her knees.
"Here." Conner said, passing her a bottle of water he had grabbed from the desk and some chocolate. She accepted them gratefully and had a drink before putting the chocolate in her mouth, letting it melt as the pain in her jaw returned now that she was no longer morphed.
"Damn Zeltrax." She muttered, making Tommy smirk.
"She's fine." He said, ignoring the glare she threw his way. "Right, let's see if we can figure out what these eggs are."
"Ethan and Trent are on their way." Conner said, looking at his phone. "Trent said Hayley will be here later when she closes the café."
"Great." Tommy replied as he moved to the computer. "Well, they're definitely not Zords. Whatever they are don't have the right energy signature."
"So what are they?" Kira asked, sitting back on the sofa.
"The scans still running. We probably won't find out for a while." Tommy said with a sigh as he stood up. "Let's head upstairs while we wait."
"But what if Zeltrax comes for the eggs?" Conner asked, making Kira smirk. "He's broken into the lab before."
"Hayley and Billy updated the security before Billy went back to Aquitar." Tommy said, smirking as well. "And Hayley added in a few adjustments when he went. If anyone tries to come through the tunnel without a DinoGem, it won't end well."
"And I'm guessing you never told Billy about the adjustments." Conner laughed as Tommy helped Kira up. "Well, at least we know it's safe."
"And it would probably end our Zeltrax problem for us." Kira mumbled, making Conner look shocked as they started up the stairs.
"What? What did Hayley do? Guys?"
