Tobias' POV

When Max and I arrived at Candor, the receptionist had already been informed to send us up to Jack Kang's apartment. When we arrived, I was surprised to see Andrew Prior looking upset and out of sorts. Did he already know what happened last night? As Max and Jack were exchanging pleasantries, Andrew began to look even more irritated.

He's interrupted exasperatedly, "Okay, enough. I have something I need to get back to in my own faction and don't have time for secretive emergency meetings. Marcus was found last night by another council member. He'd been stabbed by a factionless member while trying to save my daughter who's still missing. I'm hoping that's why Natalie was summoned to Yellow House."

"Yellow House?" Questioned Jack.

Max supplied, "It's a clubhouse of sorts that the kids in our family like to play in."

I realized he wasn't offering too much information on Yellow House. I think Max has plans for Yellow House and wants to keep it under wraps.

I asked, "Marcus helped Beatrice?"

"Yes, and almost died in the process. She was very confused after having been attacked by a factionless man, and she herself, scratched and hit Marcus in the process. Fortunately, the knife had some trouble getting through the thick, Abnegation jacket Marcus was wearing, or he'd be dead. He was taken to the Erudite hospital." Andrew explained.

Max and I exchanged troubled looks. This wasn't going to go down easily for Andrew. He'd been working with Marcus for years and considered him a friend. He would have to watch the video footage. I started setting up my laptop, while Max started explaining what they were about to see.

"Beatrice, or Tris, as she prefers to be called, has been wearing an invisible camera for some time now. She kept being approached by a man who made her feel uncomfortable." Max began, only to be interrupted by Andrew.

Irritably, Andrew asked, "Why didn't she tell us about this factionless man who'd been harassing her?"

Max looked at him with one eyebrow raised answering, "Considering who the man was, I would guess that she didn't think you would believe her. Four is setting up his laptop so we can view the footage of what led up to tonight's events and the truth of what really happened."

Andrew furrowed his brow and asked, "The truth? Are you saying Marcus' story isn't true?"

Then Jack, obviously trying to keep things calm, stated, "Let's just watch the videos so we can make our own conclusions."

I played the first video with Marcus harassing Beatrice and Andrew didn't look bothered by it. I waited for discussion before playing the second video.

"Why are you all looking at me like that? Marcus talked to me, and we discussed having Beatrice over to help him around the house and with meals. He's a very busy man and he's alone. She was being rude and selfish to him. I discussed it with Natalie and before I knew it, she had Beatrice scheduled for ten plus hour days at the Distribution Center."

We all sat in silence. How could he be so clueless? I played the second video of Beatrice punching Peter.

Andrew glared at the screen, saying, "She really shouldn't be punching people, but how is this related to what happened tonight?"

I answered, "The kids have been recording for almost two years, they deleted all the unnecessary footage, but it seems they kept what they thought was important or, in this case, amusing."

Andrew rolled his eyes, and I played the third video of Marcus talking inappropriately to Beatrice. Again, Andrew didn't see what was happening right in front of his face.

"I can't believe my own daughter is so rude to poor Marcus." he says annoyed.

I mumbled under my breath, "Oh yes, poor Marcus indeed."

Andrew glared at me, "What was that, Four?"

I glared back and spat, "Poor Marcus indeed. You obviously don't know him as well as you think you do."

"And you do? You must be one of those Dauntless Beatrice hangs out with, who taught her how to be rude and inconsiderate of those in need." Andrew spat back.

I jumped up and stood over him and said, "Yes, I think I do know my own father better than you."

Max pressed me back down into my seat and Andrew and I just kept up our glaring contest.

I played the fourth video of Tris confrontation with my mother. Finally, something actually surprised Andrew.

"But she's dead. We went to her funeral." He stuttered out.

"Marcus had a fake funeral for his wife when she left him. She was sick of all his beatings." I let out angrily.

Andrew just started shaking his head.

Max burst in," Let's just watch the last video. I think it will be quite revealing about Marcus Eaton's true character."

I played the fifth video showing Marcus' kidnapping, physical assault on Beatrice, and attempted rape. When the video finished, the room was silent. Andrew looked like he was going to be sick.

Jack finally broke the silence, saying, "I'll go over to the hospital myself and serve the arrest warrant for Marcus. My men will stand guard and make sure he can't get away. We will need to have a truth serum trial when he's well enough and Beatrice will also need to be questioned."

"Does she need to be questioned today? She's been through a lot." Max questioned.

Jack responded, "Yes. We need to record her session, so she won't have to testify in front of a full courtroom. She won't even have to go if she prefers not to. I'll try to keep her from being held accountable for almost killing him, but you know how Jeanine is. She's very letter of the law."

"Will you question Marcus live at the trial?" Max asked.

Jack grinned and chuckled, "Oh yes, I want to see how he does under truth serum, publicly. I also want to see his face when we play the video."

Frowning, I asked, "You think Jeanine will push for punishment for Beatrice? It was self-defense."

Jack thought for a moment, then answered, "Yes, and if it's being looked at objectively, she shouldn't be punished at all. However, according to our laws, it's illegal to attempt to kill someone under any circumstances. Jeanine is cruel and will likely recommend that Beatrice be made factionless and have her memory wiped."

We're all sitting there, mouths agape. They can't wipe my Beatrice' memory! I would be factionless to be with her, but if she couldn't remember who I was, it would break me.

"And what will happen to Marcus?" I asked belligerently.

Andrew answered this time, "He will have his memory wiped and become factionless. However, he will be given a sentence of remaining in prison for a period, so he can think about his crime."

"I wish she'd killed him." I said quietly.

They all nodded their heads.

Ever the pragmatist, Jack said, "Yes, but then Jeanine would want her blood, or we'd have to do a cover up. I'm not going to allow a girl to be executed for protecting herself from such a heinous act."

"Alright, it's time for you to take me to my daughter. What time should we return for Beatrice' interrogation?" asked Andrew.

Jack answered, "Let's meet again at 2pm. I'll have the receptionist send you up to my office. We'll do a private interrogation."

Max, Andrew and I all left after that and headed to the train station. I wondered if Andrew knew how to jump a train, but when it was coming, he started running along with us, so I figured it wasn't his first time. When we were all on the train and settled, Andrew sat next to Max, and I sat across from them. They were talking quietly amongst themselves, but I did hear Andrew ask how he could have been so wrong. I think Max told him he should have listened to Natalie; she's always been a good judge of character. After that, Andrew just sat with his head in his hands.

We jumped off near Dauntless but not the actual Dauntless stop. This was closer to Yellow House. When we arrived, I was shocked to find everyone there. Zeke, Charlie, Shauna, Lynn, Marlene, Uriah, Brax, Xander, and even Caleb. I guess it's a family reunion plus me. Someone had brought food and it smelled heavenly, seeing as I hadn't eaten since last night at dinner.

Beatrice was sitting on the couch surrounded by her friends and cousins. She looked a thousand times better than she had last night. The swelling on her lip and her black eye had gone down some and she looked happy to be with her people.

Andrew, Natalie, Caleb, and Beatrice got up and went to another room to talk. I wish I could be a fly on the wall for that conversation. The rest of us talked and goofed around while Hana and Vi were cooking in the kitchen. It smelled heavenly, like spaghetti and meatballs.

Finally, the Priors came back in, and we all had a family style meal. It was amazing to be with these people who obviously cared about and loved each other. It was the first time I ever really felt like part of a family. When we finished, all the teens cleaned up and everyone decided to play some games. I was just going to keep to myself in a corner, but Beatrice approached me, grabbed my hand, and asked me to come talk to her.

She led me to the same bedroom she was lying in last night and hopefully slept in. We both sat on the bed, next to each other.

"Tobias. I'm so sorry about your dad." She began.

I looked into her eyes and said, "He didn't die, Beatrice. Not that you should have felt guilty if he had."

I could see the relief she felt at not having taken a life. Monster though he was, she was struggling with her guilt. I was grateful I could ease her pain. We sat against the headboard, holding hands, in a comfortable silence.

Beatrice turned to be with a mischievous grin and said, "Now, about that kiss..."

"Sorry, did you not like it? I shouldn't have done th..." I stuttered out before she interrupted me with her lips on mine.

She moved onto my lap, and I pulled her closer to me by her waste. She wrapped one arm around my neck and her other hand was in my hair. I was in heaven.

When neither of us could breathe, we simultaneously broke apart, both of us panting hard and needing to calm down. I rested my head on her forehead. We sat there looking into each other's eyes, breathing the same air. Her breath was so sweet, like vanilla. I could smell her. She had a unique scent, like sun ripened apples. I would never get enough of this girl!

Finally, we both knew we had to join the others before her dad barged in. We stood and embraced for a few moments. God she's so tiny, but she fit perfectly in my arms. We needed to head out for Candor and her interrogation soon. I just didn't want to let her go. She went up on her tiptoes and kissed me again and I deepened the kiss, when the door slammed open.

"Well... well... well..., what do we have here?" asked Uriah with a goofy grin on his face.

Beatrice glared at him and said, "Go away Uri! Like you wouldn't be sucking face with Marlene if you weren't such a pansycake."

Uriah looked horrified and insulted as he put his hand on his heart, "You wound me!"

Our moment had been ruined, so we headed back out to be with the rest of the family. I caught glares from not just Andrew, but Caleb and Zeke as well. I think those "don't mess with my daughter, sister, cousin", talks will be coming soon.
