Chapter 4 - the prince's new protector
5,000 years in the past - In ancient Egypt
The Royal Palace - Throne Room
Pharaoh Aknamkanon had finished with evening court when his security priest Maha'ad informed him that his son, Prince Atem wanted to speak to him.
Prince Atem onto the main chamber frustrated, "Father, earlier at morning ritual, priestess Isis said that I would receive a protector! Are you the one assigning me one? If so why, I don't need a protector." He finished his tirade folding his arms.
Pharaoh Aknamkanon was stunned by this news, for he did not believe his son needed one anymore unless he left the palace. "Son, I was not the one who is assigning you a protector unless you do not leave the palace for a certain amount of time." He confirmed.
That brought the prince off guard, Atem's face fell from frustration to confusion, "Then who is and why?"
The trill of a hawk penetrated the silence that fell upon the chamber. Both Pharaoh, prince, and priests turned to the center of the chamber to see a flash of light. When it dimmed the gods Horus and Ma'at appeared with a stranger.
All the Egyptians immediately bowed to the two gods, "Lord Horus! Lady Ma'at! How may we be of service to you?" They chorused together.
Horus stepped forward to address them while Bumblebee stayed silent next to Ma'at. "Greetings, we to speak to the pharaoh and prince."
"Of course, Lord Horus," the two royals responded together, as they returned to the throne the priests stayed kneeling but raised their heads.
"Prince Atem," Horus gained his attention. "We the Egyptian gods are the ones who are assigning you a bodyguard and protector." He motioned Bumblebee to come forward.
As Bumblebee moved forward his head bowed to them but remained silent.
"Prince Atem, this is Bumblebee, an Asim, a wolf-like creatures assigned by we gods to protect their assigned Pharaoh or prince. We have seen what's to come in your and Egypt's future. This is why he will protect you until it's time to enter the afterlife and fulfill your destiny." Ma'at explained.
Atem stared at them in shock, "Mighty gods, I thought Asims were just myths for they've been seen a few times throughout the dynasties. Also, why do I need a protector/guardian?"
Horus looked at him sternly while replying, "Prince Atem We the Egyptian gods are the ones to assign an asim to specific pharaohs that we believe deserve to have one. This asim, Bumblebee, will be yours. He knows what to do and helps you throughout your destiny, as you will have many troubles. Bumblebee knows what he needs to do to help you, however, we have also told him not to reveal certain things because it would mess with the timeline. So in the future, you are not to blame him for not informing you." Horus then turned to Bumblebee, "You know your duty, take care of him and yourself. When it is time to retrieve you for the next stage."
Bumblebee listened to Lord Horus, "I understand Lord Horus, I will do my best to protect Prince Atem." He viewed as he bowed his head to the god.
Both Ma'at and Horus spoke as one, "Good luck asim Bumblebee, we are with you if you ever need us." Then They vanished.
'Bee turned back to the Pharaoh and prince, "May we go somewhere to get to know each other, Prince Atem?" He formally asked them.
The pharaoh looked at the asim then looked at his son, "I agree with Bumblebee, Atem. You should know each other better to prevent miscommunication in the future."
Atem sighed, "Yes, father." He walked down the steps of the throne. "Follow me." He ordered him as he walked by; Bumble bowed to the pharaoh and then followed the prince.
They left the audience chamber of the throne room to travel through the palace. They then came to a large room on the east side of the palace, Bumblebee looked around in amazement at how elegantly the room was.
Prince Atem turned his head to the asim, "These are my chambers, and I guess yours too..." trailed off with a jerk of his head indicating for 'Bee to go into the room before him.
'Bee did as he was silently told, he watched Atem sit on the edge of his bed. The prince waved at him to sit at one of the chairs near the window. As he did so he spoke, "Please forgive my rudeness, Prince Atem. I can understand that don't want a bodyguard or a protector, for you are almost the pharaoh of Egypt. I was taken from my home until I completed my mission."
Atem was startled at hearing this, "Taken from your home by the Egyptian gods?" He questioned, "What is your mission?"
Bumblebee stayed silent for a moment thinking back on the conditions the gods had on the amount of information that he could disclose to the prince without revealing much about the future. "At first I was taken from my family by our enemies to be used as a bargaining chip against them. During the battle I was rescued by the gods, they gave me a human-like form, so I could hide better among you. However, I am to protect you and fight with you until you succeed in fulfilling your destiny only then will I be allowed to go back home to my friends and family," he paused.
Atem stared at him, 'Fulfill my destiny?' He frowned in confusion. "Do you mean that you are to remain by my side until fulfill my destiny. Only then can you go home? Then why did you agree to those terms," he asked.
'Bee looked at him in the eye, "Because my hidden secrets were about to be revealed to them, a secret that can be potentially dangerous for me as my kind were hunted don for they feared us. So, to answer your question, I agreed to take this mission by the Egyptian gods of your culture and speak with my god to allow this. I am the last of my kind, to protect myself and hopefully to prevent them from figuring out my secret, I'm afraid that despite them raising me as their own, they could hate me for what I am and from hiding from them. Sadly, I did not want to be there to see what would happen, not to mention I felt that I had to come here. I will protect you to the best of my ability if you will let me. For the two of us are stuck together, for a long time, Prince Atem."
Atem was silent as he processed what he told him. 'His secret must be quite big if he's afraid that his chosen family's opinion could change how they would see him,' he thought to himself then his attention to Bumblebee, "I may not like having someone who has to be my protector when I'm already surrounded by guards all the time because I'm the prince of Egypt. However, I am not foolish enough to disobey the gods."
'Bee calmly stared at him before speaking, "I understand Atem, more than you think. I'm also one of the few younglings amongst our people that are left. So they treat me as if I can't protect myself sometimes. I'm not meant to be a burden to you but as a companion as well as a protector."
Atem looked at him with acceptance although with reluctance, "Alright, I cannot change how the gods want this to happen. Let's just get some sleep, it's going to be a long day tomorrow." He sighed lying on his bed, falling asleep after a few minutes.
Bumblebee waited until Atem was asleep before moving around the room, making sure that there were no threats to the prince. After confirming there were no threats, he walked back towards the balcony and then unsubspaced a fur/pelt bed, placing it in the entryway. 'Bee changed into his new dire-wolf form to allow him some comfort to be able to sleep and it heightened his senses even more than when was in humanoid form.
'If you only know, Prince Atem. Your father is dying and you will become the new pharaoh; not only that your journey to fulfill your destiny is about to begin. For what it's worth my prince, I'm so sorry...' 'Bee thought to himself as he stared at the stars with tears falling from his eyes and slowly fell asleep.
Two and a half months go by as Atem and Bumblebee get comfortable around each other; Atem's father died during this time. Maha'ad, Mana, Isis, Seto, and Bumblebee helped and supported the prince throughout this time. Now it's the of Atem's coronation ceremony to become the new pharaoh.
