Chapter Eleven: Accident
They'd planned on continuing their game of battle at the library this evening. He'd even brought his own deck of cards from home just in case.
All those plans had gone out the window the second she'd kissed him during lunch. They'd spent the rest of their break on the roof. Neither of them had eaten anything during that period, so by the time they'd left school, they'd chosen to hit up a small café before heading to the library as they'd originally planned.
They were no longer hungry but he couldn't say that he was eager to play any card games at the moment.
Touya paused at the sound of heavy footsteps passing by the closed conference room's door. There was no window for anyone to peer through but it'd be easy for strangers to walk in since it did not have a locking feature.
Kagome pressed her lips to his once more. He felt her sigh against him, causing his veins to flare with a familiar heat.
Touya paused, drawing back from Kagome just long enough for them both to catch their breath.
It wouldn't do for them to get caught like this. As much as he wanted to take things further, they were technically still in a public space and this was only their first day of being an official couple.
"I think it's been close to an hour," Kagome shifted to readjust her school's blazer. He'd managed to pull it halfway off of her shoulders earlier and would've done the same to her shirt if she'd let him. Naturally, Kagome did have her reservations about going too far. Especially with their relationship being so new and not having a truly private place that they could retreat to. So he would respect her boundaries and just take things one step at a time.
Touya's lips dipped into a pout, "Five more minutes?"
He already knew what her answer would be.
"Unfortunately no. You made a promise to your brother, right? We can see each other tomorrow. You shouldn't let him down if you promised to train with him today." Her hands fixed his collar, pulling it back into place as if nothing had ever happened.
Touya lowered his head onto her shoulder. He circled his arms around her frame as he pulled her flush against his chest.
Earlier, when their classmates had insinuated that he'd be utterly disgusting to become intimate with, he honestly felt degraded and at a loss. He, more than anyone, understood how horrifying his injuries were to look at. He knew how awful the notion of touching him must've sounded. Yet Kagome managed to surprise him yet again. She'd essentially proclaimed to the entire school that she was interested in him and found him physically attractive.
It didn't matter to her that her own taste in men had been called into question. He knew that for Kagome, this was a point of pride.
"I was going to use the bet to ask you out." Touya confessed.
He actually wanted to use the Sports Festival as a means of impressing her. He knew that even if he couldn't use his quirk like he wanted to, he could still take the top spot. Plus seeing the idiots who'd snubbed them eating crow would be an added benefit of reaching the top spot.
He felt her arms wrap around his back and she nestled against him.
"Well how about you decide what we do that weekend if you win and if I make the third round then I'll decide. That sound fair?" Her fingers dug into the cloth of his shirt, signifying that she wasn't quite ready to leave yet either.
They both knew that she didn't have a shot in hell in making it that far. Without a usable quirk that they knew of, there was no way she'd be able to make it past the first round. Kagome didn't appear interested in trying for it either.
"Just don't regret that choice later." Touya smiled as he drew back.
His eyes lowered to her neck and his face suddenly flamed.
"Uh, you might want to…" His voice trailed off, gesturing towards his own neck.
A dark bruise the shape of his mouth hard formed upon her pale skin. At the center were the all too familiar imprints of his teeth.
He'd lost himself earlier and now it would seem that everyone would know exactly what they had been up to. Especially the eagle-eyed librarian.
His face flushed with embarrassment.
He hadn't meant to leave such physical evidence on her yet.
This had been purely accidental.
At least that was what he kept telling himself over and over again in a desperate attempt to convince himself that it was true. His actions certainly had nothing to do with the brief thought of her having been in a relationship before, nor the idea that her ex was the entire reason any of them had crossed paths in the first place. It most definitely didn't have to do with notion that her ex was someone who'd known her since childhood and thus had a stronger basis for their now severed relationship. No, that certainly was not the reason for his sudden lapse of judgment earlier.
"Touya!" Kagome hissed out his name in shock when she finally spotted the oversized bruise. He hadn't missed the sudden lack of an honorific either. The notion filled him with a small sense of pride, not that he'd tell her that.
He scratched at his cheek sheepishly, "That wasn't intentional."
Besides, he didn't hear her complaining when it'd happened.
"How am I supposed to cover this?" Her tone grew several pitches higher in her panic.
Touya bit his tongue. The words 'you don't' fought to break free but he kept his silence.
"Here," He reached over, gently sweeping her hair to one side and over her shoulder. His fingers twitched, lingering upon the ends as he marveled at how soft it was to the touch. "That should at least cover you until we leave. I'll take the side closest to the librarian so she shouldn't notice."
He shifted his hand to intertwine their fingers together.
"We'll figure something out tomorrow. I think we've got a few scarves hanging around the house that you can borrow." Touya stepped forward, encouraging her to walk with him. "I'll bring it to you in the morning. That sound fair?"
He could feel her temperature increasing through the warmth of her palm. If she was blushing, then he was sure that he was as well.
"Thanks Touya," Kagome's voice was soft as they left the conference room. "I appreciate it."
His fingers curled around hers all the more, "We're dating now, right? I'd be a pretty terrible guy if I didn't at least do that much for you."
Especially since this was almost entirely his fault. Kagome did start it though, so she shared some of the blame.
He cast a quick glance over his shoulder, "We'll just deal with it like we have everything else. What's the worse they can say?"
Whatever crap their classmates threw at them, he was confident that he could handle it.
Touya threw his girlfriend a wide grin, "If anyone pitches a fit, we've still got the Sports Festival to teach them a lesson."
His smile turned sharp.
That was something he was definitely looking forward to.
