Chapter 21: Side Effects.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha!

"Oh," Kagome mumbled as she took the delivery box out of Sango's hands before looking down at it with sad eyes as she traced an invisible pattern on it, "I had forgotten that I ordered this." She whispered with tears in her eyes. She knew exactly what was inside the box, she had ordered it right after she found out that she was pregnant.

"What's inside?" Sango quietly asked after seeing Kagome's sad reaction as she took the box away from her.

Kagome didn't say anything as she sat back down on the couch before placing the small box on her lap and ripping the tape off. She opened the box and took out two onesies, one for a girl and the other for a boy since she didn't know what gender she was having yet. She just felt so excited at the time and couldn't wait, so she decided to order at least one thing for the baby before she even knew what the gender was. Now, though, she was seriously regretting that decision as she looked at both of the onesies as she felt cracks mare her heart. However, it wasn't sadness that filled those cracks, oh no, it was deep seeded anger that made her blood boil and her hands itch to get revenge.

Kagome then hopped off the couch before placing the onesies in her back shorts pocket and then made her way to her room that she shared with Inuyasha with Sango following right behind her. She made it time to hear Kagome scream at the top of her lungs as she tore the bedding off the bed before throwing them across the room. She then walked over to the nightstand before throwing the lamp that sat on top of it across the room causing it to hit the wall, smashing it into millions of pieces leaving a dent in the drywall in it's wake. She then ripped the drawer out of the nightstand, that held multiple pens, notebooks, change and other miscellaneous things inside, and threw that across the room - causing all the items inside to go flying all over the floor - into a wall leaving a hole in the drywall before turning back around and pushing the nightstand over and making her way to the other one and doing the same thing with that one as she did to the first.

Sango just stood there and watched, she knew that Kagome needed to let out her emotions and if this was the best way for her to do it, then so be it. They can replace a few broken items and fix holes in the drywall with no problems at all. She watched as the young woman then went to the dresser, that held seven drawers - three small drawers that sat side by side that held their socks, underware, wifebeaters and other small items and then four larger drawers underneath the three smaller drawers that sat one on top of the other that held their night clothes, shorts and other clothes that didn't need to be hung up. She watched as Kagome jerked each of the smaller drawers out one by one before throwing them across the room into the wall on the other side of the room leaving three separate holes in the drywall. She didn't utter one word, just screamed and growled as she went on dealing with her internal battle.

Kagome took a small break as she looked around the room with wild eyes while breathing heavily, her hair was in disarray, her clothes rumpled from her going on a warpath, her heart beat wildly in her chest and her arms and belly were screaming in agony. However, none of that mattered because her blood was still boiling and her hands were still itching to end the lives of the fucking son's of bitches that took everything from her. She let out another scream as she turned back to the dresser and was about to take the first large drawer out before Sango ran over and stopped her by wrapping her arms around Kagome and holding her tightly as she walked away from the dresser.

"Shhh," Sango soothed in a whisper as she rubbed her back with her hand, "it's okay, you're okay."

"It's... not... fair!" Kagome gasped out as she sobbed into Sango's neck while she held onto her like her life depended on it.

"Shh, I know, I know." Sango whispered as her own silent tears ran down her face.

Kagome pushed away a few minutes later and walked into the bathroom, she placed her hands on the sink as she looked at herself in the mirror. She looked absolutely feral, she could barely recognize herself at that moment - she didn't know what happened, what caused her to lose control so badly as to destroy an entire room. 'Inuyasha is going to hate me.' She thought as she choked out another sob as she sunk to her knees before falling down onto her side before curling up into a small ball as she took the onesies out of her pocket and clutched them to her chest and gave into the deep body consuming sobs.

Sango ran in after as she fell to her knees beside Kagome and immediately started to run her fingers through her hair and whispering reassuring words in her ear and doing whatever she could to console her best friend. She was so focused on Kagome that she almost didn't notice the men coming into the bedroom.

"What happened?" Inuyasha asked as his heart broke in his chest.

"She received a package in the mail right after you all left." Sango answered without looking away from Kagome.

"What is it?" Miroku asked as Inuyasha stepping into the bathroom.

"She ordered two onesies for the baby before everything happened, they just arrived right after you two left." Sango explained softly not looking away from Kagome and not stopping running her fingers through the young woman's hair.

Inuyasha's heart cracked even more as he stepped into the bathroom and crouched down next to Kagome. "Can I see?" He whispered looking at the onesies that she still had clutched against her chest.

Kagome nodded as she loosened her hands and felt as Inuyasha gently took the baby clothes out of her hands. She let out a small whimper at the feeling of nothing in her hands and her heart broke even more. There will be no baby to fill her hands or the onesies that she had bought, no baby to fill the cracks in her heart. Nothing. Nothing would be able to heal this kind of hurt.

Inuyasha looked at the first onesie, it was for a little boy that read 'At last, the prince has arrived' then looked at the second one, this one was for a little girl that read 'At last, the princess has arrived'. His heart shattered in his chest as he stared down at the onesies thinking that he'd never get the chance to see his little baby wearing it. He sighed sadly as he moved until he was lying next to Kagome before scooping her up into his arms and whispering reassuring words to her.

Miroku tapped on Sango's shoulder before jerking his head when she looked at him, silently telling her to come with him and give the grieving parents some privacy.

Sango nodded before standing up and walking out of the room with Miroku.

Inuyasha held tightly onto Kagome as she cried while a few tears left his eyes as well.

"It's... not... fair!" Kagome spoke between sobs as she snuggled closer to Inuyasha's chest and tried to catch her breath.

"I know." Inuyasha breathed as he began to run his claws through her hair.

"I'm... so... so... so...rry, Inu...sha!" Kagome continued to sob. "I... should... have... been... able... to do... more!"

"Shhh." Inuyasha shushed gently as he continued to run his claws through her hair. "You have absolutely no reason to be sorry, okay love? None of this is your fault in any way, shape or form."

"But-"

"Nope, no buts." Inuyasha ordered softly as he sat up bringing her with him so he could look in her face. "Repeat after me, this is in no way my fault."

"This is... in no... way... my fault." Kagome repeated with gasping breaths as tears still fell down from her eyes.

Inuyasha nodded in satisfaction as he stood up before helping Kagome up off the floor. "Now let's go lie down and relax." He suggested as he led her through the room.

Seeing what she did to Inuyasha's things had her filling up with guilt. "Inuyasha, I am... so sorry for... destroying your... room." She apologized still trying to catch her breath. "I'll clean... it."

Inuyasha turned around to cup her face in his hands. "Hey, it's okay. Don't worry about it. We can stay in your old room, I'll call the cleaners and have them come clean the room and fix the holes in the walls, okay?"

Kagome sighed but nodded her head in agreement.

Inuyasha sent her a small smile before turning back around and heading out the door, across the hallway and into her old room before crawling into bed and pulling her in beside him before wrapping her up into his arms. He then took out his phone before texting Miroku that they were in Kagome's old room and to call the cleaners to have them clean his room. He then put his phone down before pulling her closer to him and kissed the top of her head. "You didn't hurt yourself when you destroyed our room, did you."

"A little." Kagome admitted softly. "My arms really hurt and so does my stomach."

"Let me see." Inuyasha ordered gently as he pulled away from her so she could lift her shirt up. "Looks like you popped a few of your stitches out, I'll call Miroku in to fix them for you." He offered before grabbing his phone again and calling Miroku.

"Yeah?" Miroku answered when he accepted the call.

"Hey, grab your stitches kit and bring it in here, Kagome popped a few of her stitches out and needs you to fix them." Inuyasha explained.

"On it." Miroku answered before ending the call.

A few minutes later a knock sounded at the door before opening revealing Miroku and Sango. He stitched her up before leaving once again to give them privacy.

Inuyasha pulled her back against him before rewrapping his arms around her and before he knew it, her anxiety medication kicked in and she fell asleep.

*X*

Kagome slept peacefully in Inuyasha's arms as he ran his claws through her long black hair. He didn't know how long they laid like that when there was a knock on the door before it opened.

"I ordered us some food, it's here if you guys want to come out to eat." Sango informed as she poked her head in the door before leaving once she told them the food was there.

"Kagome, Love." Inuyasha whispered as he dragged his claws gently across her cheekbone.

"Hmm?" Kagome murmured with her eyes still closed as she snuggled closer to Inuyasha.

"Food is here, are you hungry?" Inuyasha asked as he went back to running his claws through her hair.

"Mmhmm..." Kagome mumbled but made no move to get up.

Inuyasha chuckled as he bent down to place a kiss on her forehead. "Come on, let's go get you fed and then you can come right back to sleep." He promised as he gently sat her up making her crack her eyes open, she released a yawn as she slowly stretched her arms out. Inuyasha leaned in and captured her lips with his in a slow kiss that lasted only a few seconds before he pulled away. "Let's go eat."

"Kay." Kagome agreed still sleepily as she tried to stand up, however, due to her fatigue - she started to fall but before she could fall to the ground Inuyasha grabbed her around the waist and pulled her close to him.

"Careful, are you alright?" Inuyasha asked as concern clouded his eyes.

"Mmm, yeah, 'm fine." Kagome mumbled as she leaned into Inuyasha's hold.

Inuyasha sighed, he didn't like the effect this medication was having on her, he'd have to call up the doctor to see if this level of drowsiness because of the anxiety pill was normal, or if they could get her on something else that wouldn't cause this much tiredness. He supported most of her weight as they walked to the dining room where Sango and Miroku were probably already eating.

Walking into the kitchen and sitting Kagome down once they made it to the table, Sango sat Kagome's take-out box in front of her, though Kagome didn't move to eat any of it. Her head was bowed and the three others sitting around the table looked worriedly at her.

Inuyasha moved her hair out of the way so he could see her face and noticed that she was asleep again. "Hey, Kagome, wake up." He whispered as he gently shook her.

"Huh?" Kagome mumbled as her eyes opened just a crack.

"How are you feeling Kagome?" Sango asked looking at her with concern at how tired she looked. She's been asleep since around noon and it was now six. Should she still be this tired?

"Hmm, sleepy." Kagome answered as she slowly raised her hand to grab her fork to eat the take-out Ramen that Sango had ordered for them.

"Is it normal for her to be this tired?" Miroku asked as they watched as Kagome took a slow small bite of her Ramen before chewing slowly while her eyes were closed.

"I don't know." Inuyasha responded as he took a bite of his own Ramen. "But I am going to call the doctor tomorrow morning to see if we can switch the medication, I don't want her to be affected this much just because of one pill."

Kagome was only able to eat a few more bites before her fatigue won, she moved her Ramen out of the way and placed her head down on the table and fell asleep.

Inuyasha sighed as he stood up before gently scooping Kagome up in his arms and walked back to Kagome's old room to place her back in bed. He came back out a few minutes later as he plopped back in his chair before blowing out a sigh and thrusting his hand through his hair.

"I hate that she has to go through this." Sango mumbled as she looked down at her food and she used her fork to move it around on her plate.

"Yeah," Inuyasha sighed as he too played with his food with his fork, "they are going to pay for her suffering." He growled.

"You can count on that." Miroku agreed with a nod of his head.

Inuyasha growled ferociously as he threw his fork down before slamming his fist on the table making Sango and Miroku both jump as he stood up and walked back to where Kagome slept.

Walking to the bed, Inuyasha stood at the edge of the bed for a long while just watching Kagome sleep before he climbed back in bed with her as he wrapped his arms around her, burying his hand in her hair. He placed her head on his chest and held onto her tightly as he tried to calm is emotions, he knew getting overly pissed wouldn't help him any, he needed to go about this with a clear head so he didn't make any mistakes.

Kagome mumbled something in her sleep that Inuyasha didn't understand as she snuggled closer to him as her arm slipped around his waist causing his heart to skip a beat as well as calming his nerves and relaxing his muscles immediately. A small smile curled his lips as he buried his nose into her hair and took a deep inhale of her scent as he held onto her tighter. He knew he'd burn down this whole city just for her, he'd do anything that she'd asked him without a second thought. He took another inhale of her scent before closing his eyes and falling asleep.

*X*

The morning sun shone on Kagome's face causing her to squint and bury her head further into Inuyasha's chest causing him to wake up. He looked down at her as he ran his claws through her hair.

"How are you feeling?" Inuyasha asked as he gently hooked a finger under her chin pulling her face up so he could look into her eyes. His frown deepened when he could still see sleepiness in her eyes, he sighed as he brushed the pad of his thumb across her bottom lip.

"I still feel a little tired and my arms still hurt but I'm okay." Kagome answered as she sat up and carefully stretched her arms out. "I don't think I want to continue to take those pills, they didn't make me feel right and I couldn't even stay up long enough to even eat!"

"I don't want you taking them either. It worried me that you couldn't stay awake even if you tried." Inuyasha agreed as he brushed her hair out of her face. "I'm going to call the doctor today to see if you can be put on something else that won't cause you to be overly tired."

"Okay." Kagome nodded as she slowly got up to use the restroom.

Inuyasha sighed as he watched her walk to the bathroom. He was happy that at least she could walk by herself today and was also able to form a complete sentence. He sat up and stretched out his own muscles as he arched his back, popping it in the process. A few minutes later, Kagome walked out of the bathroom before announcing that she was going to find something to wear since all of their clothes were in Inuyasha's closet. Inuyasha nodded and followed her to their still trashed room, the cleaners were supposed to be here this afternoon to clean it, however, instead of following her to the closet - he walked into the bathroom to use the toilet and take a shower.

Once he was done in the shower, he got out before wrapping the towel around his waist and exiting the bathroom. As he walked out, his eyes landed on Kagome who was wearing one of his shirts and a pair of her shorts. He let out an approving growl as he made his way to her before wrapping his arms around her and pulled her close to him.

"Fucking tease." Inuyasha joked as he ran his nose along her jawline, smiling as he felt the shiver go down her spine and her hands came up to fist in his wife beater that he was wearing. "How do you expect me to keep my hands off of you when you do shit like this." He growled as his hands made their way down her sides before gripping her hips and pulling her even closer to him as he started planting open mouth kisses on her neck causing a shiver.

Kagome tilted her head as she hummed in appreciation as he kissed her neck. "Mmm, I don't know what you're talking about." She jokingly said as she wrapped her arms around his waist.

"Uh-huh, sure you don't." Inuyasha replied as he pulled away just far enough for him to be able to claim her lips with his in a hard passionate kiss that stole Kagome's breath from her lungs and made her weak at the knees. "Are you hungry?" He asked huskily when he pulled away and placed his forehead against hers before chuckling as a deep rumble sounded from her stomach. "Come on, let's go get you something to eat." He said as he grabbed her hand and led her out of the room towards the kitchen.

As they walked into the kitchen, they saw that Sango and Miroku were already in there cooking breakfast.

"How are you feeling this morning, Kagome?" Sango asked as she placed some sausage into the frying pan.

"I feel a little better, though I'm still tired, I feel like I can at least stay up long enough to eat this time at least." Kagome answered as she watched Sango cook.

"Did you take another pill?" Miroku asked as he looked at Kagome with concern.

"No, I'm not going to take that medication anymore, Inuyasha is going to call the doctor for me to see if I can get on anything else." Kagome answered as Sango finished cooking.

"Good." Miroku nodded as Sango announced it was time to eat.

"We need to discuss Naraku, Kikyo and Kagome's mom." Inuyasha decided as they all sat down at the table causing Kagome to stiffen, though, she took a deep breath and nodded to Inuyasha who was watching her to make sure she was okay.

"Do you think they went back to their house?" Sango asked as she began to eat.

"I'm not sure but we are going to search there first, and if they aren't there then we will go over our next move." Inuyasha answered as he placed a comforting hand on Kagome's thigh and gave it a squeeze.

Kagome sent him a small smile as she placed her hand on top of his and laced their fingers together. "They have a beach house and a villa in the south." She informed as she took a bite of her food. "I could show you where they are if you promised me something."

"And what would that be?" Inuyasha asked with a raised eyebrow as he looked at her knowing his answer would already be yes no matter what she asked.

Kagome looked back at him with fire in her eyes that Inuyasha knew was ignited only by deep saturated anger. "If anyone is to spill my mother's blood, it'll be me." She growled as she tightened her grip on his hand. "She killed my father and took the possibility of me having any more children away from me! I can't let that go unpunished, so promise me that I'll be the one that will end my mother's life."

Inuyasha stared deep into her eyes before nodding his head. "You have my word; your mother's life will be taken by your hands and no one else's. I too have a request, Naraku is mine to kill. He killed our baby, so his death is mine and mine alone."

"Thank you." Kagome smiled, easily agreeing to his terms as she went back eating her food.

"When are we going to start tracking them down?" Miroku asked as he took a drink of his orange juice.

"We are meeting Leo and Guiseppi today for lunch, then Sal tomorrow - we can start coming up with plans as Shippo locates them." Inuyasha said as he watched Kagome steal a bite of his eggs, he chuckled as he pushed his plate over so she could finish his food. "Sango, I need you to stay with Kagome today. Once she heals fully then she can start coming with us again and we can start making more concrete plans on taking them down."

"I-I'll be okay on my own." Kagome mumbled as she looked down at the plate that Inuyasha had pushed her way as she moved the eggs around on the plate. "Sango can go with you."

"Absolutely not, don't even argue Kagome, you won't win this time." Inuyasha growled as he looked at her.

"But-"

"No buts Kagome!" Inuyasha demanded as he hooked a finger under her chin and pulled up so he could look in her eyes. "She's staying and that's that!"

Kagome huffed out a sigh as she moved her head away from Inuyasha's finger and looked down at her plate again while biting her bottom lip. She didn't like that she was standing in the way of Sango doing her job, it wasn't right or fair for her.

Inuyasha sighed as slipped his hand under her hair so he could gently squeeze the back of her neck. "Don't worry, Love, you'll be good as new soon and will be able to go with us again."

Kagome sighed and nodded as she started eating once again.

Satisfied that she wasn't going to argue any more, Inuyasha bent down and placed a kiss on her temple causing a smile to curl her lips. He then hooked a finger under her chin bringing her face up once again so he could place a long slow kiss to her lips. He pulled away and gently moved her hair from her face before cupping her cheek in his hand and rubbing the pad of his thumb across her cheekbone. "I love you, Kagome." He whispered as he placed his forehead against hers.

"Now who's the tease?" She asked with a laugh as she grabbed his wrist with her hand to keep his hand on her face. "I love you too, Inuyasha."

Inuyasha chuckled as he claimed her lips once again before pulling away a few seconds later and left the table to call the doctor for Kagome.

*X*

Lunch time rolled around, Inuyasha and Miroku pulled into the restaurant's parking lot where they were meeting Leo and Guiseppi. Exiting the car, Inuyasha straightened out his suit jacket as he and Miroku walked inside the restaurant, they were led to a table right away. They were the first one's there, they were handed menus and gave their drink orders while they waited for the other two men.

They didn't have to wait long, about five minutes later, Guiseppi walked into the restaurant and soon after Leo showed up.

Guiseppi stuck out his hand to shake with Inuyasha's, Inuyasha stood up to shake hands properly. Miroku also stood up to shake hands with Guiseppi, they stayed standing since they saw Leo coming their way and shook hands with him as well before sitting down.

"So, tell me about the man that showed up at your place." Inuyasha spoke getting right to the point.

"Oh, yes," Leo said as he nodded, "like I said - had long black greasy hair and red eyes. He came with plans to overrun you; he even had a step-by-step plan on what he was going to do and how he was going to do it." Guiseppi nodded as Leo told Inuyasha what was happening.

"And what was the step-by-step plan?" Inuyasha asked with a slight growl behind his voice.

"He said that step one was a failure, he didn't tell what that step was, only that it was unsuccessful." Guiseppi answered as he brought his hand up to rub his chin in thought. "The next step he said he was going to take was to ruin you financially by turning everyone that has borrowed from you against you."

"Hmm." Inuyasha hummed while he nodded, that explained why his clients were holding his money from him. "Anything else?"

"He said the next step after taking all your money was to destroy everything you own, including the people around you." Leo went on telling what he knew.

"And once you've watched everyone you care about die, the last step would be killing you slowly and painfully and then taking over your part of the city." Guiseppi finished.

"Shit." Miroku muttered under his breath, Naraku had his shit together of what he wanted to do and if he did have Sal on his side this was going to become dangerous real fast. Sal was the second most dangerous mafia boss, Inuyasha being the first, he knew they were in for a hell of a time if they were going against Sal. "Do you think he visited Sal?"

"Oh, without a doubt." Leo nodded. "The guy said that he wanted to build an army to help take you down."

"Why isn't he here?" Guiseppi asked.

"I have a meeting with him tomorrow." Inuyasha answered. "He didn't call me like you two did to let me know that Naraku had visited him, if I find out that he's double crossing me, he will die."

"Seems like something the stupid fool would try and do, anything to get more power to his name." Guiseppi added, shaking his head while Leo nodded.

"Speaking of power." Miroku spoke straightening up some. "What did he say would be in it for you if you were to have joined him?"

"Just the norm, more money than we could count, a different woman every night and he'd make sure that everyone shook with fear with just the sound of our names." Leo answered.

"And you didn't want that?" Inuyasha asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Eh," Leo shrugged, "I have more than enough money, I don't need anymore - and I have a lady friend that I've been seeing for a few months now, I have no need for women. As for people fearing my name, I never wanted that, I want people to be comfortable around me. I only show the ones that try to screw me over how evil I can be."

Inuyasha nodded before looking at Guiseppi. "What about you, why did you refuse his offer?"

"I get all of what he was offering on my own, why would I need his help in getting what I already have?" Guiseppi answered with a chuckle.

"Indeed." Inuyasha agreed with a nod as he placed a hundred-dollar tip for the waitress. "One more question, if a fight were to break out, could I count on you to have our backs and fight with us?"

"Oh absolutely!" Leo nodded in agreement as he too laid some money down on the table. "I don't take this kind of threat on another mafia boss lightly.

"You can count me in too!" Guiseppi decided with a nod of his own as he also laid money on the table.

"Good to hear." Inuyasha nodded as he stood up and stuck his hand out to shake the men's hands in farewell. "It was good meeting with you two, we shouldn't wait this long to have lunch with each other again." He said as he shook both of their hands when they stood up as well.

"Yes, we should meet up again soon!" Leo agreed as Guiseppi nodded in approval as they shook hands with Miroku.

"Thanks for giving us some of your time." Miroku said.

"You're welcome!" Leo and Guiseppi exclaimed at the same time as they all left the restaurant at the same time.

On their way home, Inuyasha swung by the pharmacy to pick up Kagome's new prescription before going home.

Hope you enjoyed this chapter! Until next time, bye!
