Chapter 24: Animalistic

A/N: I was so excited for this chapter, so I just decided to upload early lol, hope you like it! Also, TRIGGER WARNING ️ Talk about baby loss in this chapter!

"Sango, meeting in the office, now!" Inuyasha growled, irritated about all the shit that was going on, as he headed straight for his office. "Kagome you come too." He called over his shoulder as he continued his way to his office with Miroku following close behind him.
Kagome and Sango both stood up and ran after the men. When they entered the room, they saw Inuyasha already seated at his desk and Miroku took up residence on one of the couches.
Inuyasha rolled his chair back, swiveled it toward Kagome and opened his arms to her, inviting her to sit on his lap during the meeting.
A small smile curled Kagome's lips as she accepted Inuyasha's invitation and sat on his lap while Sango sat beside Miroku. When she sat down, she felt as Inuyasha moved her hair off her back to hang it over her shoulder before he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him as he buried his nose in the crook of her neck and took a long deep inhale. She felt as his muscles relaxed just by her being in his arms and strangely wanted to cry because of it but she held her tears at bay.
"What's going on?" Sango asked as Miroku wrapped his arm around her shoulders so he could pull her closer to him.
Inuyasha sighed as he moved his nose away from Kagome's neck so he could look at Sango and Miroku. "This Kio and Naraku situation is getting out of hand."
"What happened this time?" Sango asked as she watched as Inuyasha dipped his face back to Kagome's neck.
Seeing Inuyasha was preoccupied with trying to calm down some more, Miroku took the liberty of answering Sango himself. "The dealers that we had to give new supplies to informed us that they've been offered to switch sides and join Naraku for more money. They refused to betray Inuyasha, though, they said there were quite a few of our men that did stay behind."
"So, what are we going to do about it?" Kagome asked as she tilted her head to the side to give Inuyasha complete access to her neck, her lips curled in a small smile when she heard him growl in approval.
"I have Shippo spying on all the dealers that's on my payroll with orders that if they even utter even a single syllable about double crossing me that he is to take them to the warehouse and call me once he has all of them there." Inuyasha answered before burying his face into Kagome's neck.
Kagome nodded; she knew what happened there - she'd done damage there with her own two hands. She knew that people rarely left there alive.
"What happened while you were at Mr. Haiku's house?" Sango asked.
"He tried to stick with the story that he didn't have the payment, however, when I threatened to sell the shit that he bought with the loan he folded and paid me his payment plus twenty percent." Miroku answered since Inuyasha was busy giving Kagome's neck a thorough sniffing.
"Twenty percent?" Kagome asked as she looked over at Miroku.
"For being a dickhead and pissing me off." Inuyasha answered with a shrug as he finally calmed his nerves the rest of the way, he took his face away from Kagome's neck and rested his chin on her shoulder.
"Oh." Kagome giggled as Inuyasha nipped at her shoulder.
"We need to make a surprise visit to Naraku's house to see if they are still there." Miroku mentioned as he thought out loud. "Though, we haven't seen any of them so it's doubtful that they are still here, right?"
"Not necessarily." Kagome replied with a shake of her head. "Mom and Kikyo are probably lying low, Naraku still has that bracelet, remember? So, he could be anyone and anywhere."
"Oh, that's right, he does." Sango murmured as she began thinking. "Have you smelled his scent, Inuyasha?"
"No, but if dad made him a bracelet to change his identity, what's to say that he hasn't made one to change his scent - or even block it?"
"Hmm," Sango hummed as she thought, "it could be possible. I'll call him really quick." She decided as she pulled her phone out of her pocket, dialed her dad's number and placed the call on speaker.
"Sango, dear, what can I do for you?" Toga answered the phone on the first ring.
"Hey, dad, I have a question." Sango said.
"I might have an answer," Toga joked, "shoot your question."
"Do you remember that bracelet that you made for Naraku, the one that allows him to change his appearance?" Sango asked.
"Yes, I do, why?"
"Did you make him anything else, or was that it?" Sango questioned.
"That was it, why do you ask?"
"Because Naraku and the others had gone into hiding and Inuyasha isn't able to track his scent, which made me wonder if you made him something to either change his scent or block it?" Sango explained.
"Oh, yes, he requested there be a function in the bracelet that blocks one's scent." Toga replied.
"That makes things more difficult." Miroku mused out loud with a sigh.
"I do apologize for causing so much trouble for you guys." Toga responded with a sigh.
"It's okay dad," Sango reassured as she pinched the bridge of her nose with her pointer finger and thumb, "you didn't know."
"Let me know if you require any assistance." Toga said.
"Just keep on the look-out for right now, I'll call you if we need anything else." Sango replied.
"Okay, will do."
"Alright, bye dad." Sango said as she hung up the phone.
"What now?" Kagome asked as she leaned closer to Inuyasha.
"Now, we wait for Shippo's word. I need to call Mayor Watanabe really quick to set up a meeting." Inuyasha answered as he grabbed his phone, dialed the number and placed the call on speaker.
"Hello, Phantom, how goes it?" Mr. Watanabe's loud cheery voice sounded from the phone.
"It goes good." Inuyasha answered. "However, I do have a few rats that are trying to take me down. Do you think we can set up a meeting soon with you and Koga?"
"Oh, absolutely! Just let me pull up my calendar to see when I have availability." Watanabe replied as he clicked his tongue. "The only time I have available is in two weeks from today at one in the afternoon."
Inuyasha was hoping for a meeting much sooner than that, but he'd take what he could get. "Okay, see you then."
"That's the same day as my doctor appointment." Kagome said as she looked at him.
"Shit, I forgot." Inuyasha cursed as he went to call Watanabe back. "I'll have to reschedule the meeting."
"No, don't." Kagome stopped Inuyasha as she pushed his phone down. "Watanabe is probably overscheduled as it is. There's hard telling when you'd be able to get another meeting with him, so you better keep it. I can go by myself."
"I can take you." Sango suggested.
"Okay, that works for me." Kagome nodded as she saw the regret in Inuyasha's eyes, she smiled and kissed his nose. "It'll be okay."
Inuyasha sighed as he shoved his nose back into the crook of her neck.
*A Week Later*
Kagome, Inuyasha, Sango and Miroku were at the church that they had chosen to hold the funeral at. Kagome was going over a list and checking everything off as she went about making sure everything was in order before the few people that were coming got there.
Decorations, check.
Flowers, check.
Music, check.
The coffin was where it needed to be, check.
Pastor was here to perform the service, check.
Food and drinks were in the other room, check.
'Well, seems like everything is in order.' Kagome thought as she folded the piece of paper up before sticking it in her dress pocket. She walked up to the casket, a small beautiful white casket that had blue and pink flowers along the edges - since they didn't know the gender they went with both colors - and a baby angel in the middle. Inuyasha and she had picked it out together once they both fell in love with it. Before the baby was placed inside, Kagome had put both of the onesies that she had ordered in first so the baby could have them forever.
Kagome ran her finger along the flowers as tears gathered in her eyes. Inuyasha stepped up beside her and placed his hand on top of Kagome's as she continued to trace the flowers with her finger. He didn't try to stop her, no, his touch was just light enough for her to keep moving her hand the way she wanted too - his hand a reminder that he was here with her and that she wasn't alone. She'll never be alone again.
"When does this hurt end?" Kagome asked in a whisper as she took in a deep shuddering breath as silent tears flowed freely down her face while she continued to look down at the casket.
"I don't think it ever does." Inuyasha whispered as a few his own tears fell from his eyes, however, he wiped them away - he needed to be strong for Kagome right now. He moved his hand so that he could lace his fingers with hers before turning her around to face him. "But I promise that you'll never have to go through this hurt alone." He promised as he brought his free hand up to cup her cheek. "I will always be here for you, and Sango and Miroku are here too."
Kagome didn't say anything, just a chocked sob as she crushed her body to his in a bone crushing hug as she soaked his shirt with her sobs. He wrapped his arms around her and held onto her tightly as he laid his head on top of hers and closed his eyes, a few more of his own tears dripping in her hair before bringing a hand up and drying them from his eyes.
Sango came up to put a comforting hand on Kagome's back while Miroku did the same for Inuyasha. They also had tears falling down their faces, as their hearts broke for their loss.
Just then the doors opened making Inuyasha open his eyes, though he didn't pull away from Kagome, to see who was there. He watched as his parents and Sesshomaru walk through the doors followed shortly by Shippo.
Inuyasha's parents walked up to stand in front of Kagome and him with sad expressions on their faces.
"Oh, dear." Izayoi whispered with tears in her eyes, she felt so guilty. If she just stood her ground and put a stop to kicking him out, none of this would be happening right now. She never wanted her son or her daughter-in-law to feel this kind of hurt, it wasn't fair to them, and she took all the blame. "I'm so, so sorry for your loss."
Inuyasha still wasn't too fond of his parents at this point in time, however, he was grateful that they came to give their respects and to be there for them. He sighed as he pulled away from Kagome and surprised his mother by pulling her into a hug.
"Thanks for being here." Inuyasha whispered in her ear as he pulled away before shaking his father's hand thanking him as well. However, Toga surprised Inuyasha by pulling him in for a hug.
"I am so sorry, son, for everything." Toga murmured as tears gathered in his eyes.
"Thanks dad." Inuyasha replied as he hugged his father back before pulling away to find that Kagome was in the embrace of Sango and Miroku as all three of them cried together. He looked away from them towards Sesshomaru before giving him a nod of Thanks, they have never been close enough to hug it out, before walking over to where Shippo stood.
"Hey, runt, thanks for coming." Inuyasha spoke as he gripped his shoulder.
Shippo nodded with tears in his eyes, he looked up at Inuyasha as an older brother. This man saved him from certain death, he didn't deserve this, neither did Kagome, especially when they do so much for everyone else. It just wasn't fair.
"Is everyone here?" The pastor asked softly as he came up and stood beside Inuyasha.
"Yeah, everyone is here." Inuyasha replied with a nod as he looked at the pastor. "We can get the service started."
The pastor nodded as he made his way to the stage. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are about to start, so please fine your seats." The pastor ordered gently once he got to his podium.
Inuyasha walked over to where Kagome was while both Sango and Miroku pulled away from her. He grabbed her hand before leading her to a couple of chairs so they could both sit down. Once they were seated, Inuyasha dragged Kagome as close to him as possible, he needed her right now just as much as she needed him.
Sango and Miroku sat beside them while everyone else sat in the pew behind them.
Once everyone was seated, the pastor cleared his throat before he began speaking. "We are gathered here today to morn a great loss. Baby Takahashi never got the chance to live life, taken before even having the chance to live. Life seems cruel sometimes and it often feels like the hurt will be never-ending, however, though it may never go away completely - it will lessen. I would like to use this time for anyone that would like to come up and say a few words."
Kagome sighed before standing up and walking toward the stage. "Um," she mumbled as she stood at the podium before clearing her throat, "when I was younger, I always dreamed of having a big family. And though I wasn't completely ready to become a mom at such a young age, I was overjoyed when I had Hiro. I was scared but excited when I found out I was pregnant for the second time. Possible names started running through my mind, whether the baby would be a girl or a boy. I hoped for a little girl, I imagined having tea parties, painting each other's nails, playing dress up or barbies, everything a little girl would love to do." She stopped as she took in a deep breath and held it in for a few seconds before releasing it. "I would've been happy with another little boy, though, Hiro and I used to play dart gun wars, go on hikes, go camping, play with dinosaurs and in the mud." She laughed sadly. "I would've loved to do all of that again or experience something completely different, but I can't because my baby was cruelly ripped from me. I'm trying so hard to keep myself put together when all I want to do is fall apart at the seams." She took another deep breath before continuing. "However, I have some pretty great people in my corner that's helping so much by keeping me together, I don't know what I would do without any of you. I appreciate each and every one of you, thank you so much. I can only hope that my father and the baby are together in Heaven." She finished as she stepped away from the podium and off the stage.
Inuyasha stood up as Kagome walked off the stage and opened his arms for her to fly into and sob her heart out. It took her several minutes for her to gather enough strength to slow her tears and pull away from Inuyasha so he could give his speech.
Inuyasha stood up at the podium and cleared his throat before speaking. "I never gave much thought about being a father, the idea never even crossed my mind. However, once I meant Kagome and her son, I knew I would burn the world down for the both of them. From the moment the I meant Hiro, I accepted him as my own, that day I wondered what it would feel like to have a child that has my blood running through its veins would feel like. When I found out that I was about to be able to experience just that and become a father to my very own baby, I was filled with happiness but also, I was very terrified. I was scared that I wouldn't be good enough to be a father, that I'd mess up royally. However, my happiness outweighed my nervousness. I couldn't wait for the baby to be here and to experience the life of a father." He paused as he gathered his thoughts before continuing. "But it wasn't meant to be. Something horrible happened and my baby was lost in the process. I'd do anything to be able to wind back the clock of time and redo that day, maybe - just maybe - I'd be able to stop what happened. I want to say sorry to my baby, it wasn't fair what happened, I wish I could take back that fateful day." He finished before walking back off the stage to sit back beside Kagome.
As he walked down from the stage, Sango walked up to say her speech.
As Sango began talking Inuyasha pulled Kagome up before sitting down and bringing her to sit on his lap. He buried his nose into her neck before taking in a deep calming inhale of her scent.
Sango took a deep breath in before letting it out as she began. "When I found out I was going to be an aunt, it was during a time that was very scary. I prayed with everything in me that both Kagome and the baby would be fine, I only got half of my wish - and I'm so happy that I got my sister back. I'm so sorry for not praying hard enough, I'm so sorry that everyone has to deal with this kind of loss. I wish I could fix this, but I can't. I'm sorry." Sango finished with a sniffle as tears ran down her face. She walked away from the podium as Miroku walked up to give his speech.
Kagome stood up before bringing Sango in for a hug as Miroku began to speak. "I'm not sure what to say, nothing I can say will ever take this pain away - no matter how badly I want to fix all of this. I want so badly for this to be just a horrible dream that everyone would wake up from and everything will be better. I wish I could've done so many things to change what happened, but the only thing I can do is say that I am so sorry for what happened." He finished as he stepped off the stage to accept hugs from Kagome and Inuyasha.
The pastor stood back up at the podium before clearing his throat. "Would anyone else like to say anything?" He paused to see if anyone were to stand up but when nobody did, he continued. "There's some food and drinks in the next room over, please go help yourselves and then we can go to the grave site."
Once everyone was done eating, they moved to the grave site, where luckily Kagome was able to get a spot right next to her father. The hole had already been dug and everyone said their final goodbyes as the casket was lowered into the ground. Kagome and Inuyasha picked out a male angel holding a little baby angel in representation of Kagome's father holding their baby in Heaven and placed it between the matching headstones they got for both her father and the baby.
Kagome walked over to her father's grave before kneeling down and placing some flower decorations around her dad's grave. "Hi daddy." She breathed out before sucking in a deep breath as her tears kept falling down. She cleared her throat before continuing. "I'm sorry I haven't been by lately to see you; I've just been falling further and further down a hole." She let out a humorless laugh as she wiped the tears off her face only for them to replace with fresh tears. "So much has happened since I last saw you that I wish I could tell you. I got married, I think you really would've liked him, he's so good to me daddy. So many bad things happened to us because of me, and he still stuck by me, though we were forced to get a divorce but maybe soon we can fix that and get remarried. I wish you were still here, but will you take care of my baby for a while?" She paused as she took another deep breath as she wiped at her eyes once again. "I love you daddy and promise that I'll come visit more often."
Kagome stood up before turning around to kneel down next to her baby's grave, and with the help of Inuyasha
*The day of Inuyasha's meeting and Kagome's doctor appointment*
*A week after the funeral*
Kagome walked out of the bathroom still wrapped in a towel as she brushed her damp hair out and walked her way to the closet to find something to wear, she had a smile stretched across her face, she was bubbly and happy despite their current situation. She had got a call a few days ago saying that Hiro had woken up and was doing better than expected, they had spent every minute that they could with him at the hospital.
Inuyasha, who was still lying in the bed with his arms behind his head, tracked her every movement with his eyes. He watched as a bead of water dripped down from her hear, followed it as it ran over her collarbone and over the swell of her breast before being absorbed by the towel. "Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?" He asked as she walked into the closet for a short time before coming back out dressed in one of his shirts. He was very pleased to find that she had taken his rule to wear his shirt so seriously, she hardly ever wore her own shirts anymore which suited him just fine. She had a pair of her hip-hugger jeans on and her black sneakers. She had also found on of his ballcaps in the closet and had that on as well. "I could cancel this meeting and make it for another day." He suggested for the thousandth time as he stood up and walked over to where she stood before flipping the bill of his stollen ballcap with his pointer finger then grabbing the front of her, his, shirt and pulled her closer to him as he gripped her hips with his hands.
Kagome smiled as she wrapped her arms around his neck and stood on her tippy toes so she could place a small kiss to his nose. "I told you already that if you cancel then you'd might not be able to get another one for a long time and you need to talk with him as soon as possible. I'll be okay with Sango."
Inuyasha sighed as he brought a hand up to slip under her hair so he could cup the back of her neck, he knew she was right and he knew that he definitely needed to talk with Watannabe sooner rather than later, but that didn't mean he haad to like it. His grip tightened on the back of her neck as he pulled her in for a kiss. "Okay, I'll see you later." He said once he pulled away.
"Okay." Kagome said with a smile. "I love you."
"I love you too, baby girl." Inuyasha said as he pulled her in for another kiss then leaving the room.
Kagome watched him leave with a happy sigh as she finished getting ready for her appointment.
A few minutes later, Kagome walked out to the living room where she found Sango watching a movie while curled up on the couch. It wasn't time to go to her appointment yet, so she sat beside Sango to watch the movie.
"Morning." Sango smiled as she took a sip of her coffee. It was a little past noon, but everyone just rolled out of bed about an hour ago, not that anyone really wanted too.
"Morning." Kagome replied as she stood up to go get her own cup of coffee.
Once the movie was over, it was time to leave for Kagome's appointment. "You ready to go?" Sango asked as she turned the TV off.
"Yes!" Kagome said with a smile as she stood up, she was ready to hear that she was fully healed. She felt like she was, she had no more pain at all and was ready to move on with life with no restrictions.
"Alright, let's go." Sango said with a giggle as they walked out the front door.
Walking into the doctor's office, Kagome signed herself in before taking a seat next to Sango in the waiting room as she waited to be called back.
A few minutes passed before she was called back. Her vitals were taken by the nurse before being told that the doctor would be in soon to see her."
"How are we feeling?" The doctor asked as he came into the room a few minutes later.
"I'm feeling okay." Kagome replied.
"Any more pain in your arms?"
"No." Kagome responded with a shake of her head as the doctor moved her arms up, down, to the side, to the front and to the back.
"Did that hurt any?" The doctor asked as he let go of her arms.
"No." Kagome said with a smile.
"Lay back." The doctor ordered lifting up her shirt when she did. "Does this hurt?" He asked as he used his hands to put slight pressure on Kagome's stomach.
"No." Kagome answered as the doctor poked and prodded around her stomach area.
"Good." The doctor nodded gesturing for Kagome to sit up. "Are you still bleeding?"
"No," Kagome answered shaking her head, "that ended last week."
The doctor took down some notes in her chart before looking back up at Kagome. "I'm giving you a clean bill of health; you no longer have any restrictions."
*With Inuyasha and Miroku*
Pulling up to Watanabe's house, Inuyasha and Miroku got out of the car and knocked on the door and waited for the butler to answer the door. Once allowed inside, they followed the butler to where Watanabe and Koga were waiting for them to show up.
"Ah, Phantom, Mr. Miroku!" Watanabe exclaimed joyfully. "Welcome, welcome, please come take a seat!"
"I hope we didn't keep you waiting long." Inuyasha spoke as he shook their hands before he sat on one of the couches with Miroku sitting right next to him.
"Not at all." Koga responded with a shake of his head. "I just got here not too long ago."
"So, who are these rats that you speak of." Watanabe asked getting straight to business.
"There's actually three rats." Inuyasha informed as he brought his foot up to rest on his knee. "Naraku Ito, Kikyo and Ai Higurashi."
"Did you say Ai Higurashi?" Koga asked before he went on when he saw Inuyasha nod. "I've been keeping my eye on her for suspected murder. I never got enough evidence though, to place her behind bars."
"She did it," Inuyasha admitted as he nodded his head, "she admitted it herself to Kagome. You won't have to worry about putting her behind bars, Kagome wants to take her life with her own two hands. I'm sure that's not a problem? He asked as he looked at Koga with a raised brow.
"I did hear what happened to Kagome. I'm truly sorry for what she's been through and of course she should have her revenge." Koga agreed with a nod. "The police will not come after her. I'm guessing that none of the ones involved are going to end up behind bars?"
"They fucked with my family." Inuyasha bit out in his icy tone that sent danger warning shivers down Koga's spine. "They will be dealt with accordingly by no one else but by me and my family."
"Yes, of course." Koga readily agreed trying to get Inuyasha to return to his normal voice, he hated that icy voice of his. "You have my permission to deal with them however you see fit."
"I've been keeping my eyes out for them, but they are nowhere in sight." Inuyasha remarked as he placed his hand on his chin in thought. "It's like they fell off the side of the Earth."
"We're going to be making a surprise visit to their house in a few days. We are just waiting for Kagome to get a clean bill of health before we do anything." Miroku explained.
"She said that they also have a beach house and a villa in the south, so if they aren't at their house then we will go down south." Inuyasha added.
"How is Kagome doing?" Watanabe asked with concern in his eyes.
"She's doing a lot better, she's not in any pain anymore. Though, I'm afraid that the emotional pain will always be there, for me as well." Inuyasha responded going back to his normal voice tone making Koga breathe out a sigh of relief. "She's at the doctors now getting a checkup."
"I'm sorry for both of your loss. But it's good that she isn't in anymore physical pain, send her my best wishes please?" Watanabe pleaded. "We need to set up a lunch date just because."
"Mine too." Koga replied with just as much concern in his eyes as Watanabe.
"Will do, thank you." Inuyasha responded with a nod. "Anything else before we end this meeting?"
"Yes, we need another donation to repair the community center, the roof caved in." Watanabe answered.
"Give me the details and the amount needed and I'll go over it and give you an answer in a few days." Inuyasha replied then raised an eyebrow. "Anything else?"
"Yes, I need another refill please." Koga spoke up.
"Oh, me too." Watannabe mentioned with a nod.
Inuyasha nodded as he got them their drug of choice before collecting their money.
They shook hands and bid their farewells as Inuyasha and Miroku took their leave.
Arriving home, Inuyasha and Miroku noticed that the girls weren't home yet, so they decided to sit and watch some TV while they waited.
They didn't have to wait long, about ten minutes later they heard two car doors close prompting Inuyasha to get up and open the front door to see Kagome and Sango walking up the porch steps.
"How did the-" Inuyasha started but stopped when Kagome grabbed a fistful of his shirt and dragged him down the hallway, however, halfway to their room Inuyasha grabbed her by the upper arm before pinning her to the wall. He gathered both her wrists in one hand and pinned them above her head. "I take it went well?" He husked as he dipped his head down so his lips were right by her ear and his breath fanned across her skin making her shiver. He didn't give her time to answer as he crushed his lips against hers in a rough demanding kiss as his free hand squeezed her hip, pushing her harder against the wall while also pushing his body closer to hers causing a deep moan to sound in her throat.
Inuyasha ripped her off the wall and they stumbled the rest of the way to their room with their lips still connected with each other. He opened their bedroom door, walked in and then kicked the door shut with his foot. Kagome pushed away from him and took several steps back.
They both were staring at each other, both breathing hard, both of their hearts beating wildly in their chests as a shiver of deep seeded desire made its way down Inuyasha's spine at the purely wild animalistic look that shone brightly in Kagome's eyes as she looked at him like she was stalking her prey.
One beat.
Two beats.
Three beats.
Kagome started running the short distance between her and Inuyasha before jumping and wrapping her legs and arms around him at the same time as her mouth crashed hard against his.
Inuyasha caught her with one arm around her waist while his other hand fisted in her hair, pulling her even closer to him as he kissed her back just as hard as she kissed him. He walked to his bed before tossing her down in the center of the bed.
Seeing Kagome breathing hard and still staring at him with the animalistic look swirling in her eyes made a feral growl of want escape from his chest as his own animalistic side woke up.
Kagome shivered when she heard Inuyasha's growl as he made his way to hover over her body. He roughly squeezed her hips as he gave a hard thrust against her core making her moan and arch her back. Her hands shakingly came up to start unbuttoning his shirt, however, she lost her patience after the second button and grabbed his shirt before roughly ripping his shirt apart and making the buttons pop off, she jerked the ruined shirt off his arms and threw it on the floor.
