C15: Remembering Dad.

December 19th-(1998)

One night, in the Book cabin in the snowy mountains, 8-year old Jamie, with his hair neck-length long, was up in his room, lying on his bed on his stomach, holding a green pencil with his right hand, with a topless yellow notepad in front of him. The boy was working on his Christmas list to give to his parents...but he hadn't written a thing down. For he did not know what he wanted for Christmas. Jamie was shirtless and he wore gray sweat-pants and white socks.

There was a knock at his door.

"Come in." Jamie said.

39-Year old Drake Book opened the door and poked his head inside. "Knock, knock. May i come in?"

"Sure." Jamie said.

"Thanks." Drake said before entering inside the room and closing the door. "Sooo, uh...what are you up to in here?"

"Ah, nothin'. Just working on my Christmas list, is all." Jamie said.

"That's great, how's it comin'?" Drake said as he went over to Jamie's bed.

"Not so good. I can't think of a thing i want for Christmas this year." Jamie said.

"Well, i can help you with that." Drake said.

"I'm all ears." Jamie said as he looked at his father.

"Well...since you can't figure out what you want for Christmas...why don't you make a list of what to get someone else." Drake suggested.

"Gee...i never thought of that. But who would i make the list for? I've already gotten you and Mom your presents." Jamie said.

"Well, what about all your friends?" Drake asked.

"I got them presents too. I'm afraid there's no one left in town that i know who i haven't gotten a present for." Jamie said.

"Oh, Jamie...you don't have to know somebody to get them a gift." Drake said.

"I don't?" Jamie asked.

"No, it's the month of Christmas. A time of giving to the less fortunate." Drake explained.

"So it doesn't have to be anyone i know?" Jamie asked.

"No, it doesn't. It just has to be someone you feel is in need of a little Christmas cheer." Drake said.

"Like who?" Jamie asked.

"Like orphan kids, street kids, homeless people or a struggling family." Drake answered.

"Wow. Sounds great. I'll start working on the list right away. Thanks, Dad." Jamie said, smiling.

"Anytime." Drake said, also smiling.
