"What If Things Work Out?"
Olivia stood at the edge of the reception, her eyes sweeping over her team. Fin and his wife were laughing together, the kind of happiness that made her chest tighten with a strange longing. She smiled at the sight, then noticed Carisi leaning down to kiss Amanda, a sweet, quiet moment between them that seemed to belong in a different world—a world where people let themselves be happy, where love wasn't so complicated.
She sighed softly, wondering what exactly she was afraid of. She had spent years burying her feelings, keeping her heart guarded, afraid of what might happen if she let someone in. But now, watching her friends with their partners, their faces alight with love, she couldn't shake the thought that maybe she was the one standing in her own way.
She knew who had already broken through her walls, who had made her feel again after so long. It was him. It had always been him.
Elliot.
He was back, had been for some time, and he had been trying—trying to win her over, to show her that he was still the man she could trust. But the truth was, he didn't need to try anymore.
He already had her.
"They're a good-looking couple," Elliot's voice came from beside her, his tone soft and warm as they both watched Fin and his wife. "How'd they meet?"
"She's a cop," Olivia said, glancing at him with a small smile. "His first partner."
Elliot chuckled, and they exchanged a brief, knowing glance before turning back toward the sea, the sound of the waves in the distance calming her.
"To partners," Elliot said, lifting his glass toward her, his voice steady and filled with meaning.
Olivia looked at him for a moment, feeling her heart skip a beat. She had spent so long being afraid, so long holding back, but now, something inside her was shifting. What if this was the moment she'd been waiting for? What if things actually worked out?
"How about," she began, her voice low but certain, "to 'what if things work out?'"
Elliot's eyes met hers, searching her face for any sign of doubt. "You sure?" he asked softly, needing to hear it from her, needing to be certain she was ready.
She nodded, a small, but sure smile spreading across her lips. "I'm sure. I don't want to run anymore."
Elliot's eyes softened with relief, and a flicker of something deeper—desire, perhaps—crossed his features. He stepped closer to her, his voice hushed as he murmured, "You have no idea how badly I want to kiss you right now, but I don't want to embarrass you in front of the team."
Olivia laughed lightly, feeling the weight lift off her chest for the first time in what seemed like years. She gazed up at him, her heart full and steady. "Elliot Stabler," she whispered, leaning in just a little closer, "just kiss me."
Elliot didn't need any more encouragement. His hand reached up to cup her cheek, his thumb brushing tenderly over her skin as his forehead gently rested against hers. His other hand slid around her waist, pulling her closer with a familiar, protective ease. He looked into her eyes for a moment longer, as if memorizing the moment, and then, with a soft breath, he closed the gap between them.
The kiss was gentle at first, their lips just brushing in a tentative, tender dance. But the moment their lips met, something inside them both unlocked. Olivia's hands found their way to the back of Elliot's neck, pulling him closer, deepening the kiss as they let years of tension melt away in that single, perfect moment.
It was as though the world around them disappeared, leaving just the two of them in their long-awaited embrace. There was no more fear, no more doubt—just the warmth of his body against hers, the taste of his lips, the feeling of being whole again.
From the sidelines, Fin grinned as he watched them. "I believe I've got some cash to collect," he said with a smirk, clearly amused by the turn of events.
Amanda smiled, crossing her arms as she nodded toward the couple, who were still caught up in their kiss. "I think you owe me fifty bucks," she teased to Carisi, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Sonny glanced at her, his expression a mixture of disbelief and admiration. "You called it, huh?"
Amanda grinned. "I did. But tell you what, instead of paying up, how about you take me out instead?"
He chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief but clearly charmed by her offer. "You've got yourself a deal," he said with a smirk, slipping an arm around her as they turned back to watch their friends.
Olivia and Elliot finally broke apart, their foreheads still pressed together, eyes closed as they caught their breath. Olivia smiled, feeling lighter than she had in years. She had taken the leap, and it hadn't broken her. Instead, it had brought her back to him—to the man who had always been her home.
"What if things work out?" Olivia whispered again, her voice soft but full of hope.
Elliot smiled against her lips, his heart pounding with love and certainty. "They already have, Liv."
And as the ocean waves crashed in the distance and the laughter of their friends filled the air, Olivia knew that he was right. Things had already worked out—because they had found their way back to each other, where they had always belonged.
