Written for the day five prompt: body swap. Enjoy!

The Ever After is full of surprises. Even after all the strange things that Ruby has seen while traveling through Remnant, she still never could have imagined all of the wild and unbelievable stuff that they keep running into in this fairy tale world.

Still, this one definitely takes the cake for the weirdest thing that's ever happened to Ruby.

"Ruby, look out!"

Upon hearing Penny's frantic call, Ruby glances ahead, spotting a strange, golden mist up ahead of her on the path. Well, that's probably not good. She tries to slow down enough to stop, or veer to the side of the strange cloud, but she has too much momentum and ends up skidding right through the mist.

Oops.

For a moment, there's a strange tingling feeling on her skin. It starts off in her hands, the first place that had gone through the weird golden cloud, before spreading all over to the rest of her body. It's not painful, and it only lasts a few seconds before it goes away just as quickly as it started.

Huh. Well, maybe she dodged a bullet this time. Maybe it was just a harmless bit of mist.

"Ruby!" She hears Penny calling her name again. "Where are you?"

"I'm right here!" she yells back. Something about her voice sounds a bit off, but she can't quite place why. "I'm okay, but you should probably wait until we figure out what's going on with this stuff before-"

Her warning comes too late. She sees Penny pass through the mist before coming to a stop, glancing around to try to find Ruby. "Ruby?"

"Penny?" Ruby replies. Once again, her voice doesn't sound right. "Are you okay?"

"I-I think so," says a voice that doesn't quite sound like Penny. If anything, it sounds more like Ruby's voice. But how? And why?

What is going on here?

Ruby looks down at her hands, startled when she realizes that she's suddenly not wearing her gloves. Her eyes widen when she realizes that her arms are bare as well, and that she's wearing a short-sleeved green dress instead of her usual clothes. A green dress that looks just like . . .

She looks up at Penny again and yelps. Penny isn't there. Instead, Ruby is looking up at-herself? Whoever she is, the person who looks just like Ruby looks just as startled as Ruby feels. "Penny?"

And now she realizes why her voice sounds so weird. It's not Ruby's voice. It's Penny's voice, somehow coming out of Ruby's mouth. Somehow, the two of them have switched bodies.

How are they going to get out of this mess?
