Roxanne and I had plenty of fun on this outdoors vacation with my family and our friends. On some days, we went on hiking trips around Flathead Lake and seeing all the beautiful trees and plants and the amazing wildlife.
One day, we all went to the Big Sky Waterpark and we all had fun sliding down on the water slides, playing volleyball, playing miniature golf and watching my godchildren have fun on the Krazy Kars.
One day, we all went to the Flathead Lake Alpine Coaster and we all enjoyed riding on it.
One day, we visited Whitefish Lake State Park and we had a fun day there, walking around it and then renting a speed boat so we could water-ski, wakeboard and jet ski on the lake. The only ones who didn't do the water sports were PJ, who would drive the speedboat, and Lucy and Roxanne who would be the spotters – and they were very good at it – and watch the kids while we would have our fun on the water. Then we did a spot of fishing, where my dad and I taught everyone about the Perfect Cast.
This vacation was one of the best I ever had in my life. It was amazing and it was right up my street and everything, but the next part I'm going to tell was the very best part of the whole vacation.
One night, I was doing some late-night swimming in the swimming pool at the resort. In the hot tub were Roxanne, Stacey and Lauren. After I took a break to catch my breath after doing a lot of laps, I must confess I unintentionally started to listen on the conversation Roxanne was having with her friends.
"Oh, I'm sure you'll find another boyfriend, Roxanne," Stacey assured her. "You're kind and smart as you are beautiful. Any guy would be lucky to have you."
"I don't think so, Stacey," Roxanne said. "Jeremy and Nathan didn't think so when I was their girlfriend."
"Then those two are idiots," Stacey said. "You know who they remind me of?"
"Who?" Roxanne asked.
"Chad."
"Oh, yeah. I completely agree with you on that."
They chuckled a bit.
"But, seriously, you won't get another boyfriend or find a guy that you want to spend the rest of your life with if you give up now," Stacey said.
"If I may, Roxanne?" Lauren asked.
"Yes, Lauren?" Roxanne asked.
"How do you feel that your first boyfriend Max is back in your life after one whole year?" Lauren asked. "And how helpful has he been to you?"
Roxanne took a deep breath. "The absolute truth is I feel so much better that he's back in my life. He hasn't changed too much since I had to leave him and he's still a great friend and he's helped me turn my life around for the better by helping me get into the college he works at. Deep down, I want to have a new relationship with him. I know most couples don't get back together after they break up and I've not forgotten that he has suffered an awful lot with what that Mona did to him and the last thing I want to do is make him go through that again, but he was a great boyfriend in high school and he's still a great guy to be with and I'm happier when I'm with him and I'm sad when I'm not with him and that's why I feel that way."
For a while, I was speechless. I was really touched by Roxanne's words and made me do some thinking. Then when I saw Roxanne and her friends get out of the hot tub, I continued to do my laps in the pool to make it look like I didn't eavesdrop on their conversation.
Then the next night, after spending a very fun day at City Beach with Roxanne, my family and our friends helping my godchildren have as much fun as they could on the beach, including building sandcastles and paddling in the water among the fun activities we did, I ordered room service as a surprise for Roxanne. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries and teas for myself and some mushroom pizza for her. When she came in, she was very surprised.
"This is great, Max," Roxanne said to me, as we had our delicious room service dinner. "Everything about this is great. What's the occasion?"
I took a deep breath before I said these words to her. "Roxanne, I won't lie to you. While I was doing my swimming laps last night, I heard everything you, Stacey and Lauren said in the hot tub."
"Okay," Roxanne said, unsure how to feel. "Go on, Max."
"Well, the truth is that I've always been in love with you since the day I first saw on the first day at high school in September 1994. And I was so lucky that I had you as the wonderful girlfriend you were when I did. I know I had plenty of girlfriends since you had to move to Texas and they are all special in their own way, but still none of them are you. Out of all the relationships I had, I missed ours the most. And you coming back into my life and has me made feel happier than I had ever been in a very long time and you helped me get over the trauma Mona caused me to have. What I'm trying to say is I want to have be in a relationship with you again, even if that means building it again from scratch."
"Oh, Max!" Roxanne squealed very happily.
"But my only worry is that I'm going to do something very unforgiveable to you and you won't even want me as a friend or want me to be in your life anymore, let alone be your boyfriend again."
"Oh, Max," Roxanne said, holding my hands. "I'll never want you out of my life. Ever! In fact, I don't even think I can even live my life without you in it anymore. I know because I've lived eight years without you being in it and it's been nothing but miserable. But since you've come back into my life, it's been so much better and happier. You were an amazing person back in high school and you still are. And I will never ever want to lose you again. So, yes, I accept your offer to be your girlfriend again."
I was very delighted to hear that. "Thanks, Roxanne."
"And thank you, too, Max." Then Roxanne hugged me and kissed me on my lips. I hugged and kissed her right back. Then we stripped down to our underwear and we made out in our bed. What a great way to start a brand-new relationship between us again! And since then, we continued to do that every night.
The Flathead Lake vacation came to an end. Max and I said goodbye to my family and friends and thank them for an awesome vacation. And then we drove back to my house in Spoonerville and to get ourselves ready for college in September and to have more fun in my bed every night now that we started our brand new relationship.
