An: Thank you to me Beta Sammie1746
Hermione slammed the portrait hole shut when she marched from the common room. "I'm the worthless one huh? Who is the one that's made sure they survived this whole time? The one who checked their homework, and in some cases did it for them? I'll show them one day. They won't know what hit them. I swear on their graves I'll find a way to teach them a lesson."
She stalked off down the corridor. She was heading out the front doors when they swung open and Professor Dumbledore came through them. "Hermione dear, please come up to my office and tell me what happened tonight, please?"
Hermione nodded her head, tears threatening to spill down her face as she thought about everything that happened. "Yes professor." She spun on her heels going back up the stairs she had just come down.
Eventually she stopped outside the gargoyle to wait for Professor Dumbledore to come along. It wasn't very long before he was beside her speaking the password. "Pumpkin pasties," the gargoyle sprang aside.
Hermione looked at Professor Dumbledore. She knew he liked to use sweets as his password, but she couldn't have guessed he would use that one. She climbed the stairs first up to his office, looking around she took a seat in a chair that looked oddly comfortable.
"Now dear, would you like a lemon drop." Dumbledore held out a dish full of the sour yet somehow sweet treats.
Hermione shook her head. "No sir. Thank you though." She tried to wipe a few tears from her eyes that were intent on falling out.
"Here you go," Professor Dumbledore held out a handkerchief to her. "Dry your tears and please let me know what happened."
"Thank you sir." Hermione wiped her face before starting to speak. "Well sir, we, that is to say Harry, Ron, Neville, Luna, Ginny and I were sitting at the dinner table tonight when Harry's scar started to hurt him. He never got a good hold on occlumency, so I believe that Voldemort planted a vision in his mind. He believed that Voldemort had Sirius tied up in the ministry, torturing him. He got us rounded up and we snuck out to go save him. I see now that it was a trap and a mistake."
"I do believe Miss Granger, that you are right. Voldemort has figured out that Harry's mind isn't blocked like it should be. He has made use of that connection and I'm sure he will again. Is that all Miss Granger?" Professor Dumbledore had a knowing look on his face.
"No sir, once we got to the ministry it was awfully quiet and deserted. We should have turned back, but we kept going. Voldemort I believe wanted the prophecy, but no one but Harry could grab it. Harry pulled it off the shelf after Lucius Malfoy imperioused him, but dropped it thanks to Luna. All anyone heard when it shattered was neither can live while the other survives. What does it mean Professor? The order came seconds after the words were spoken and tried to get us out. Sirius had gathered our back together, but somehow we wound up in this room with an archway that was whispering at us. I was standing next to Sirius when Bellatrix showed up and they started dueling viciously. Sirius took the killing curse in the chest, making him fall backwards through the archway that we found out was called the Veil. I don't know what I did wrong sir, but now Harry and Ron hate me, blaming me for Sirius's death. Harry has said I'm not allowed at Grimmauld Place for the funeral and that he never wants to see me again." Hermione leaned back in her chair, emotionally drained. "I was planning on helping the Order since I am of age now, but I guess I can't since Harry is the one who now owns Grimmauld. With him banning me, I am not sure how I can be of use."
"Oh dear, I'm sure Harry and Ron didn't mean to speak so harshly. I will have a talk with them later. You are, of course welcome to help with the Order so you care able to access headquarters. As for your questions, it means exactly that. Harry nor Voldemort can truly live while the other one survives. We shall talk about that later at a meeting. As for now dear girl I will send you on to headquarters and you can rest there." Dumbledore got up from behind his desk and went to the fireplace.
"But sir, they've started calling me awful names. They, well… they've called me a mudblood sir." Hermione nervously twisted the handkerchief in her knuckles.
"I'll have a talk with them dear. I'm sure they're just upset as we all are. Just give them some time to accept it." Dumbledore held out his pot of floo powder. "Why don't you go ahead and floo to Grimmauld, the wards are set to alert me and not Harry of who comes and goes. I'll have a house elf drop your things off later."
Hermione reached out and took a pinch of green powder. She stepped into the fireplace, threw it down and shouted, "Grimmauld Place!" She was taken away from Professor Dumbledore's office in a flash of green light.
She didn't see the pensive look on his face and didn't see him call a house elf to get her things. She just stumbled out into a dark, lifeless and cold kitchen. No one else was here in Grimmauld except for Kreacher and he didn't like her very much.
"The mudblood is back. Filthy she is, the mistress will be so upset. Master allowed her in his house, but master is no longer here. Kreacher doesn't like the mudblood, but he must be nice to her." Kreacher was mumbling under his breath again.
Hermione should be used to it by now, but she wasn't. It still hurt that Kreacher didn't like her. She was nice to him and this was his repayment to her. "It's ok Kreacher. I don't need anything. Professor Dumbledore said he was going to have a Hogwarts elf drop my things off in my normal room." She wandered off up the stairs quietly trying not to set Mrs. Black's portrait off.
Meanwhile, back at school in Dumbledore's office he had called an elf up to him. Winky popped into the headmaster's office. "You called sir? What can winky do for you?"
"Yes winky, would you please go and get Miss Granger's trunk and things and send them to her bedroom at Grimmauld Place? She will be staying there for a good long while." Professor Dumbledore looked over his glasses at Winky. "She may be a tad upset so just ignore her if you do see her. You can just drop her things off and then come back here to the kitchens." He sat back down at his desk and took a quill to a piece of parchment.
It was time that he got Harry and Ron up here to speak about what would happen next. He also needed to send a message to Mr. Jablonski who was the solicitor for the Black family. After all, there was the problem with Sirius being dead and Headquarters now being in the hands of a fifteen-year-old.
Harry
Would you and Ronald come up to my office as soon as you get this letter? There are things that must be discussed and as Miss Granger is no longer here in the school, you two are the next logical choice to speak to. Miss Granger is too distraught to finish out her year here so I went ahead and sent her home. There are only a couple of weeks left till the end of the semester here anyways. She will be fine.
Dumbledore
After completing the missive to the boys and sending it off with an owl, he started his next letter to Sirius's solicitor. Hopefully there would be no issues getting the boy to transfer headquarters to him after the will is read.
Mr. Jablonski,
I'm sorry to bother you, I know you must be a busy man. It seems that a Mr. Sirius Black has passed beyond the Veil. The funeral will be in the next few days, but we need to have the reading of the will soon. If you could send me a list of dates within the next three weeks that work for you, I will send back the date that works best for the Black Heir.
Best Regards,
Professor Dumbledore
Harry and Ron were still sleeping when the owl from Dumbledore knocked on their window. Rolling out of bed, Harry opened the window only for the owl to drop the letter on his head then fly back out the window. Harry opened it up, reading it quickly. Waking Ron would be a job in and of itself with him being a deep sleeper.
Harry closed the window and threw a pillow at Ron. That didn't wake him, so he turned around grabbed his wand and shot Aguamenti at him. Water hit Ron square in the face making him shoot straight up in the bed spluttering.
Dripping water Ron hollered. "Ahhhhh! What was that for?!"
"Ron, RON!" Harry came into Ron's view. "Dumbledore's sent us a message, we have to go to his office now. He says the mudblood has gone home for the break already. We don't have to see her face anymore."
"Good, that's good. I didn't want to see her anymore anyways. We need to come up with a plan to knock her down a few pegs anyways. She's a right bloody terror." Ron was fully awake now, thinking of the ways to make Hermione miserable. "Well, I suppose we should go see what Dumbledore wants now."
Harry waited to open the door until Ron was up, out of the bed and changed. The common room was quiet when they went downstairs, no one being around. It took them a few tries to get to Dumbledore's office. The staircases kept changing on them and they still had not figured out the spell to stop them from moving.
"Ugggh, the mudblood would know the spell, but I don't want anything from her. She's the reason Sirius is gone and I've got no family anymore." Harry was disgusted for even thinking about asking Hermione anything at all.
The gargoyle had been waiting for these two to come along. He was sentient just like the castle was and heard everything that had gone on in Dumbledore's office earlier that night. He locked the office down tight and wouldn't let Harry or Ron in. The gargoyle had a soft spot for Hermione and although he couldn't talk he knew who the real issue was. You didn't call someone mudblood and get away with it.
"Cockroach clusters." Harry tried sweet after sweet to get the Gargoyle to open up. "Blood Pops, Pepper Imps, Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, Acid Pops, Fizzing Whizbees."
"What the fuck is wrong with this Gargoyle? Why isn't it letting us up to Dumbledore's office? Peppermint Toads, Fudge Flies, Exploding Bon Bons, Cauldron Cakes, Ice Mice, Pumpkin Pasties." Ron started listing sweets off too, getting more frustrated with each one. "Chocolate Frogs, Chocolate Wands. We've never had this much trouble getting into Dumbledore's office." Ron's face just kept getting redder and redder. He was about to explode.
Finally, the gargoyle jumped aside, he had his fun. If he could laugh, he would do it. He was sure that wouldn't teach them anything, but he could have fun with these two dimwits while he got the chance too.
Harry and Ron were too busy trying to think of other sweets or anything else Dumbledore would have used for a password, that they didn't see that the Gargoyle had jumped aside. When they did finally notice, the Gargoyle almost shut while Harry was walking to the stairs.
Climbing the steps they got to the top, complaining vehemently. "Dumbledore, your Gargoyle is bang out of order mate. It locked us out for the longest time and then just about pushed Harry into the wall when it shut while we came through."
"Yes, well he does that sometimes. I'll get him fixed for the next time. Anyways, I called you up here because one, we need to plan Sirius's funeral and two, I needed to ask Harry if it was ok that Grimmauld can still used as Headquarters. Then three, I have a mission for you two to complete once the funeral is over with." Dumbledore sat up, clasping his hands together on top of his desk.
"Yes of course you can still use Grimmauld as Headquarters. We'll be at school for the most part anyways. As for the funeral, well I didn't know Sirius very well. I was just getting to know him when he was killed because of that slag we used to call a best friend." Harry was getting upset all over again, clenching his fists angrily.
"Yes, well that's part of why I called you here. She has no place to go or will have no place to go soon. I told her she could stay at Grimmauld, that way you two can keep an eye on her and do what you want to make her life miserable. I also want you to kill her parents and hide her wand within a dark book in the Grimmauld library. Wait till she's asleep to get her wand though. I'll tell you a potion that you can give her to make sure she won't wake up while you steal her wand. We must make sure that she's as isolated as possible or my plan to defeat the Dark Lord won't work." Dumbledore implored Harry and Ron determinately.
"I don't want that bitch in my house, but we'll do as you say. We trust you." Harry stood up and started pacing the floor. "I'll make good and sure that bitch pays, it's her fault Sirius is dead. She was always harping on and on about me learning occlumency when she knows I'm shit at it. I can't block my mind, she should have just shut up! In fact, maybe we should just kill her to get rid of her too."
"Now that's a good idea Harry. I can get behind that." Ron was a follower, always following Harry. "There's so many things we could do to her to make it a miserable few months before we kill her."
"Slow down boys, you can't kill her just yet. We do need her brains, but once we're done with her; by all means kill her. She's only useful for so long." Dumbledore wasn't fond of the know it all either, but he could recognize that she was useful. "Remember boys, not a word about this conversation to anyone. I'll send you both along to Grimmauld as well. Just let me know what night you chose to put our plan in action."
"It doesn't matter, one night after the funeral. Maybe we should be nice enough and let her get her things from her childhood house before we kill her parents. We have to use fiendfyre on the house though, it has to look like Death Eaters killed her parents." Ron for once had a good idea. It wasn't common, but occasionally he could use his brain.
