Chapter 34: The Victors

"And now, the final match with Team I and Team P." the referee declared. "Begin!"

Wasting no time, Yuno shot off towards Team I.

"Here he comes." Rill was excited.

"As we suspected, that newcomer is heading for Captain Rill." Ruben noted. "Now's our chance." he and Nils headed off to Team P.

"Wind Creation Magic: Wind Blades Shower!" Yuno let his attack loose.

"Painting Magic: God's Game!" Rill countered.

"He's definitely not like anyone I've faced before." Yuno admitted, using the 'Towering Tornado' to shield himself from the reflected attack.

"That's our number one newbie." Rill grinned. "I expect no less."

"The enemy's crystal is right in front of us." Nils shouted, speeding towards Noelle and En on an ice slide.

"Let's do this." Ruben agreed.

"Ice Magic: Ice Needle!" Nils summoned his ice spikes.

"Sandstone Magic: Rock Fall!" Ruben also sent out his sand spikes.

"Leave the ice magic to me." En spoke via the 'Talking Mr. Mushroom'. "Fungus Magic: Towering Mr. Mushroom." he summoned an oversized Pleurotus eryngii mushroom.

"What!?" 'Talking Mr. Mushroom' exclaimed in shock when Nils' attack took out the newly summoned mushroom.

"Water Creation Magic: Sea Dragon's Nest!" Noelle blocked out the two attacking waves with a water barrier of her own.

In response, Nils and Ruben reformed their elemental spikes into spike walls.

"Wind Magic: Tornado Fang!" Yuno was engaged in an aerial fight against Rill. "Plus Crescent Kamaitachi!"

Rill countered by shooting through both attacks with a magic beam, before raising an earth wall of block out Yuno's next wind bullet. "Here we go." he manipulated the earth cubes that Yuno's attack had cut through, embedding them with red paint and allowing the cubes to launch a rain of fire magic at Yuno.

"Bell." Yuno summoned Sylph. "Wind Magic: Gale White Bow!" he fired his wind-powered arrows, boosted by Sylph's magic.

"Nice." Rill beamed, his hiding spot was blasted apart and he took off running across the stream with Yuno following closely behind. Freezing the water under his feet, he rose the ice into a frozen pillar, prompting Yuno to follow after him. "Here we go." he splashed a stroke of red paint on the ice block and jumped off before it broke apart. "One more time." he release a swirl of red and blue paint which turned into fire and ice and fired it at Yuno. "Maybe I was wrong about you." he mused, landing on the closed hands of his creation, having trapped Yuno within it, only to have the wind user break free with a 'Towering Tornado'.

Yuno then let loose a flock of 'Swift White Hawk', only to have Rill land on the ground and block out the attack with an earth wall.

"Your spirit friend is a cutie." Rill chuckled. "This is starting to get really fun. But this isn't enough to get the inspiration for my ultimate masterpiece."

"Bell, we're going to do the thing." Yuno informed Sylph. "I planned to use this against Asta in the finals." he landed on the ground. "But I'm up against a Magic Knight Squad Captain personally hand-picked by Rhiannon. You're a worthy opponent." powering up, he took on his 'Spirit Dive' form.

"That's amazing, Yuno." Rill was getting pumped. "I feel like I can draw anything right now."

"Wind Spirit Magic." Yuno charged up.

"Picture Magic." Rill grinned.

"Spirit Storm!" Yuno released his magic beam.

"Phantom Dragon Vouivre's Shout!" Rill's summoned beats fired a countering magic beam from its mouth. "Wait!" he panicked in shock when his team's crystal shattered under the magical onslaught. "Why?"

In the audience...

"Idiots..." Rhiannon muttered. "With the immense amount of magic Rill was emitting, the crystal simply broke under pressure."

On the battlefield...

"Captain Rill has destroyed his own team's crystal." the referee announced. "Therefore, Team P: Yuno, Noelle and En, wins."

Afterwards...

"This concludes the Selection Exam." Julius addressed the participants. "First of all, let me congratulate you on your victory. Also, the other teams may have been defeated, but that doesn't mean you are out of the race. Freyja-sama and I will be going over all of your battles from today and will probably select and announce about 10 to 20 Royal Knights at a later date."

After everyone dispersed...

"Companions who believe in each other, huh?" Zora mused, sulking off. "What the hell was I thinking?"

"Are you leaving already, Zora Ideale?" Rhiannon asked. "Thank you for pointing out the faults of everyone who lost. Even though you could have said things a little more nicely, those who want to improve can actually take those words to heart and become stronger. Your trap magic and information are vital."

"What the hell are you talking about?" Zora scoffed. "I'm sure you already know who I really am. See ya." he dropped the Purple Orcas coat and walked off.

"A long time ago, before he became Wizard King, Julius met a certain Magic Knight on the battlefield." Rhiannon started. "His name was Zara Ideale. He gave his all to protect this country and was a model Magic Knight. They were the ones who thought up of the star system so that people like him would be acknowledged for their efforts and not due to their upbringing. Unfortunately, there were still some misguided Magic Knights back then. I suppose it's about time you put on the robe of your own Squad, don't you think?"
