Gil and Sara take a moment and look at each other. Taking a breath, Sara pauses and says, "Like I said. We are taking this very slow. Henry has had enough change lately with you coming into our world, I don't want to run before we can learn to walk." Gil nodded. "I understand. There is also clearly things that I need to get together before we can move forward." Sara nodded. "I want to keep this to ourselves for a little while longer. But the biggest things Gil is that we are going to have to communicate. There was a reason we got divorced…" Sara trailed off. Gil paused. Can I really do this? Can I love Sara and our son? "I understand Sara. I don't want to come in and wreck everything. I'll start by getting things together for me to leave San Diego and I will communicate with you as details get settled. I'll try and come up in two weeks to see you both and we can talk about next steps." Sara nodded. "One other thing… I kinda have our old room and Louis and Jack have the other one that Henry isn't in. So we are kind of a full house…" Gil nodded, "I'll plan on looking for my own place. Like you said I don't want to move back in and all the things until we are sure." Sara also said, "I think we need to spend some time looking at a good co-parenting strategy. I'm still not ready to introduce you to Henry as his dad. I want to make sure that you both get used to each other for a while before throwing him into a new doesn't have to be now but I want us to think about it at least a little." Gil nodded, "I'm not going anywhere but that will be easier to communicate when I live in Vegas full time."
Sara took a breath. Okay, we can do this. We can make this work. Henry is okay it's all going to be okay. "Alright, well I think we should head back to the house so I can make sure everything is alright and you can get some sleep. Do you know when you are planning on leaving?" Gil looked at her and said, "The case is wrapping up so I think I will head home in the next few days when I can get a flight out. I want to start working on getting things put together soon. Would it be okay if I shipped some of my things to the house as I pack? I totally understand if not, I can check if Jim would be okay with it." Sara turned to Gil, "No that's fine. Just depends on how much because space is at a premium." Gil nodded, "I'll keep that in mind."
Gil opens the car door for Sara and they start heading back to the house. Gil tries not to smile, but he's happy. For the first time in a long time, happy. I'm still nervous that its not going to work, but I have to do my best. I want to help raise my son. I know I'll have to work at it, but it's worth it. Both of them are worth it.
