Gil sits in his window seat on the plane back to Vegas on a warm Saturday morning. It's been a month since he learned he was a father and he and Sara had tried to start something back up again. He knew his heart only belonged to her, but that doesn't stop two humans struggling to communicate both near and far apart. He wanted to come earlier but Sara told him to wait because Henry had a busy week starting preschool and Sara had a couple intense cases. Gil would have rather seen his son start preschool and told Sara that but she still said no. Regardless of having a child, they still clearly had things to work on before they were "smooth sailing."
"Ladies and gentlemen, Delta Airlines welcomes you to Las Vegas…" Gil hears the intercom of the flight coming over. He smiles slightly hoping for this trip to be a good one. He had most of his stuff packed away and shipped to Vegas and the rest of it is in storage in Los Angeles at a place close to his mother. Selling the boat wasn't hard and he asked a fair price for it. The Research Team understood his resignation even if they didn't have all the facts so moving to Vegas wasn't going to be as hard as he originally thought. The one thing he needs to do is buy a car when he gets to Nevada since he sold his back when he bought the boat. He will need steady transportation. Gil grabs his bags and exits the plane. The warm desert air hits his face and he remembers why he liked this city in the first place.
Gil gets his bags and gets a rental car and heads to Sara's house. He wanted to see Henry as soon as he could. Sara of course sent pictures, but he still wanted to hug his son desperately. As he rode past the strip on his way to the house he smiled knowing he would get to see them both soon. Gil pulls up almost 30 minutes later to the house and Gil gets his things out of the trunk. Henry comes out to greet him in dinosaur pajamas with smiles and giggles. Gil can't help but stare at his son and just take him in. He's grown and I missed it… again. Sara comes out to the front door in a robe with a cup of coffee and says, "Henry, come here. Let Gil come inside first." Gil smiled at Sara and said, "It's fine, I like my welcoming committee." Gil kisses Sara on the cheek and holds his bags. "Can I leave these by the front door?" Sara nods, "Would you like a cup of coffee? We haven't gotten very far this morning as you can see." Gil nods, "that would be wonderful."
They step into the house and Gil slips his shoes off. Henry goes over to the living room coated in children's toys and he walks into the kitchen to get his coffee from Sara. "I know the way you like it." Sara says handing him the warm cup. "Sometimes those little things are what I miss most." Gil accepts it gladly. Sara refills her mug and says, "So how much more moving things do you have to do?" Gil sighs taking a sip and remarks, "I've got everything packed and shipped at this point. The thingsI'm not taking with me are in a storage unit near my mom's place. I found an apartment close by and already put my deposit down. I sold the boat and so now I need to get a car… that's the most important part now. I've looked at a couple, but I need to just pick one." Sara nodded. "Wow it looks like you did a lot this month." Gil smiled slightly, "I wanted to come back. I was motivated." Sara nodded again. "That is very evident clearly." He really wants to be here… I think for the both of us. "I'd like to stay for a couple hours if that's alright, I could grab us something to eat?" Sara smiled, "I forget how well you feed me. Jack and Louis are much more the chefs than I am, but I have definitely gotten better." Gil smiled back and touched Sara's hand, "I want to take care of you, Sara. Both of you… I'm not good at it, but I want to try." Gil turns away and pauses. Sara paused. He has grown too… differently but he has grown. "I appreciate the effort, Gil."
He nodded and walked over to play with Henry. Sara went to take a bath and Gil played with Henry. She knew he would be fine, but it was still difficult doing it for the first time. She laid in the bath and closed her eyes for a moment. She heard giggles outside her door and she breathed a sigh of relief. At least they were safe. Sara got out of the tub later and dried off, putting on some clean clothes and heading back to the living room. She saw Henry and Gil sitting and reading a book and she smiled. She wanted to give them just a moment together without her there. She smiled. He's still a good man… he deserved to know his son… They finished the book at Henry looked up seeing her and ran to her side. Gil looked up and smiled at both of them. "I need to get him dressed, would you want to start on lunch? There is peanut butter and jelly and if you want to start on the mac and cheese (Henry squealed with glee) in the pantry, that would be helpful." Gil nodded. "Can do, dear." Sara paused and smiled. He used to call her that all the time. It was nice to think that old can once again become new.
