Chapter 4

Vi set off, heading back to the bridge. Hours had passed since she had seen Jinx. She went over their conversation multiple times, wondering if there was something more she could have done. She knew if she had pressed more, that there was a greater chance that Jinx would be triggered and have it out with the voices in her head. She thought the best approach was to be calm, and not too pushy, hoping to give Jinx the chance to think without the chaos inside.

Vi began getting closer to the bridge. The time nearing 11:30 pm. It was almost time to meet Caitlyn and Ekko. As Vi approached the bridge, she remained out of site, and continued topside. She took a moment to look back, as her heart felt heavy with guilt, knowing she was only giving Caitlyn another reason to not trust her. But she needed Caitlyn at the bridge for the next phase of her plan to work.

As midnight came closer, Vi made her way in darkness through the calm quiet streets of piltover. She thought it was way too easy to sneak topside, but I guess since Caitlyn is now sending supplies to the undercity there were less reasons for them to try and come up top. She gazed up in the night sky admiring the stars that filled it. Things of fairytales sang to young children in the undercity, for stars didn't get to exist to them. Another luxury stolen from them Vi thought.

Just then Vi reached the golden gates. She made her way to the side where part of the gate was broken but hidden well by the hedges. She knew this because this was not the first time she had used this entrance. She then made her way to the back window. She was sure the owner of the window would not be behind it but made sure to be extra quiet just in case. After all, getting caught breaking into the Sheriffs bedroom is not something that would be taken lightly. She slowly lifted the window, while peeking inside to make sure the bed that filled the room was empty. She then slowly climbed inside, making her way to the wardrobe on the other side of the room. Vi slowly opened the cupboard's while keeping her ears vigilante, knowing the owner of the room was not the only resident of the house.

Vi peered inside as a large smile began to form on her face. Her gauntlets sitting right in front of. "I knew she would keep them safe" Vi thought. She reached down grabbing both large gauntlets and stuffed them in the bag she had removed from her shoulders. She then reached in her pocket and placed the 3rd note she had written earlier with the name Caitlyn written on top, in place of the gauntlets.

Now it was time for Vi to violate Caitlyn's trust on a whole new level. She exited Caitlyn's room and made her way down a large hallway. She stopped next to a large door that remained closed. Vi reached for the handle, hoping it was unlocked. As she entered the room, the moon shined bright reflecting off the gold and silver trinkets lining the walls. Vi had taken a tour of this room weeks previous to this heist. She knew it contained multitudes of wealth. Gifts from around the world given to the council women. "Probably all bribes". Thought Vi, but immediately felt guilty for the thought, with the council women now being gone at the hands of her sister. Vi grabbed a few small items, ones she hoped wouldn't be missed, but were worth enough to buy her way out. Vi filled a small bag that she then tied to her waist and set off back to Caitlyn's room to exit back out the window.

Vi reached to pull herself up, before becoming frozen with fear at the sounds of a bolt being pulled back, while moving a bullet into place.

"Well, isn't this a familiar site, although last time you weren't robbing me". Came the familiar voice from the tall blue haired women.

Vi kept her face towards the window, not wanting to look at the disappointment on Caitlyn's face.

"Cupcake I"

But Caitlyn cut Vi's words off quickly. "My name is Caitlyn, but you may call me Sheriff".

Vi winced at these words.

"Did you really think I would trust a meet up with you. The second Ekko told me, I knew something sinister was up, but I sure didn't expect you to be robbing my dead mother's trinkets". Caitlyn began stepping closer to Vi.

"You know I could throw you back in Stillwater for this".

Vi immediately turned and began advancing on Caitlyn, backing her into the wall. "Sure, Sheriff throw me back in Stillwater, because 7 years for a crime I didn't commit wasn't long enough". Vi then reached forward grabbing the barrel of the rifle and pulling it into her own chest. "But I'm afraid Stillwater is not an option. You either pull that trigger ending this all now or let me go".

Caitlyn's heart was beating quickly, her mind spinning, ready to throw insults at her once friend. But before she could respond the glow of the moon fell inside Caitlyn's room, reviling the person in front of her more clearly. Caitlyn could see what the past weeks had done to Vi. She looked weaker, tired and hopeless. As Caitlyn looked deeper into Vis eyes, she could only see darkness, the sparkle that was once there was gone. She felt she didn't even recognize the pink haired women standing in front of her.

Caitlyn instinctively reached her hand forward towards Vi's cheek but stopped herself replacing it under the rifle.

"You don't need to do this I can help you. You don't need to be an enforcer, but please stay".

Vi stared deeply into Caitlyn's eyes, as she pushed the barrel of the gun towards the floor. "You can't save me cupcake, no more than you could have saved your mother".

Tears began swelling in Caitlyn's eyes. She wasn't sure if this was meant to be a hurtful statement, or to show neither of them could escape the guilt they both felt for the deaths that day.

"It wasn't our fault", screamed Caitlyn as she tossed her rifle and began moving closer to Vi.

Vi began backing up quickly, looking to exit the window. But Caitlyn grabbed her arm and while looking at her spoke softly. "I wouldn't have made you choose you know".

Vi stopped moving and stared back at Caitlyn with a puzzled look. "I would have never made you choose between me and Jinx".

Vi slowly pulled her arm away and began climbing to the window. Before she jumped out, she turned to Caitlyn one last time. "That's the problem cupcake, my heart chose you anyway".

Vi jumped from the window and ran across the yard to the broken fence, as Caitlyn watched her friend leave her behind once more.
