Chapter 2: Sleepless in Hinamizawa

I can't believe it took me a month to publish this chapter! I first wrote it on Wattpad, then copied and pasted it to , but I kept forgetting. (Honestly, I was just being lazy lol!)

Subaru spent the rest of the day wandering around Hinamizawa, the weight of his situation pressing heavily on him. As the sun began to set, his anxiety and fear grew stronger. Separated from his friends and lost in an unfamiliar place, he felt a sense of dread settling in.

He found a secluded bench and sat down, staring at the ground. Tears welled up in his eyes. "I just want to go back," he whispered to himself.

Lost in his thoughts, Subaru didn't notice someone approaching until they bumped into him. He looked up quickly, startled. A man with a camera stood before him, looking equally surprised.

"Sorry about that," the man said, adjusting his camera. "Didn't see you there."

Subaru quickly wiped his eyes and tried to compose himself. "It's okay. I was just... lost in thought."

The man nodded, offering a friendly smile. "I'm Jirou Tomitake. I like taking photos around the village."

Subaru forced a smile. "Subaru Natsuki. Nice to meet you."

Tomitake glanced at his camera. "Hinamizawa has some pretty interesting spots. Ever thought of exploring it?"

"Yeah, it's... different," Subaru replied, his voice trailing off as he thought about his predicament.

Tomitake sensed Subaru's unease and changed the subject. "So, what brings you to Hinamizawa?"

Subaru hesitated, not sure how much to reveal. "I got lost while hiking," he finally said. "Ended up here."

Tomitake chuckled. "Happens to the best of us. But don't worry, people here are pretty helpful once you get to know them."

"Thanks," Subaru muttered.

Tomitake nodded and waved before heading off, his camera clicking as he took photos of the village. Subaru watched him go, feeling a mix of gratitude and despair. His stomach growled, a painful reminder that he hadn't eaten all day.

With no money and nowhere to go, Subaru lay down on the bench, staring up at the darkening sky. He hoped sleep would come quickly and take his mind off his hunger and fear. As he closed his eyes, his thoughts drifted back to the strange girl he had met earlier, Rika.

Rika had been kind, but Subaru couldn't shake the feeling that there was something she wasn't telling him. He also couldn't understand why he felt so out of place in this village. The more he thought about it, the more confused he became.

As Subaru drifted off to sleep, his mind was a whirlwind of questions and fears. He clung to the faint hope that, somehow, he would find a way back to his own world. But for now, all he could do was wait and hope.

Suddenly, he felt a light poke on his shoulder. Startled, Subaru opened his eyes to see Rika standing beside him. Her expression was calm, but there was an intensity in her gaze that made him feel uneasy.

"Rika?" he said, sitting up quickly. "What are you doing here?"

"I saw you lying here and thought you might need some help," Rika replied softly.

Subaru felt a mixture of relief and suspicion. "I appreciate it, but I'll be fine. I don't want to trouble you."

Rika shook her head. "It's no trouble at all. You look hungry and tired. Why don't you come to my house for dinner? I live with my friend Satoko. We would be happy to have you."

Subaru hesitated, unsure of what to do. His stomach growled again, reminding him of his dire situation. "Are you sure? I don't want to impose."

"It's really okay," Rika assured him with a gentle smile. "We have plenty of food, and you could use a good meal."

Subaru looked at her, feeling a sense of gratitude and vulnerability. "Thank you, Rika. I really appreciate it."

As they walked, Rika glanced at Subaru, curiosity evident in her eyes. "So, Subaru, why are you really here? It's unusual to see someone new in Hinamizawa."

Subaru paused, considering how much he should reveal. "It's complicated," he finally said. "I ended up here... unexpectedly."

Rika nodded, sensing there was more to the story but not pressing further. "Well, whatever brought you here, I'm sure you'll find your way."

Subaru managed a small smile. "I hope so."

They continued in silence, Subaru feeling a mix of apprehension and hope. Maybe, just maybe, things would start to get better from here.

As they approached Rika's home, Subaru noticed a cheerful voice calling out. "Nipah~!"

Subaru turned to see Rika smiling mischievously at him. "Nipah?" he echoed, curious about the greeting.

Rika giggled softly. "It's just a little word I made up. It's like a friendly greeting. You'll get used to it."

They entered the house, and Subaru was surprised to see a young girl with short blonde hair standing in the hallway, looking at him with wide eyes.

"Huuuuuuh!?" Satoko exclaimed, clearly taken aback. "Who's this, Rika?"

Rika grinned. "This is Subaru. I met him today and thought he might like to join us for dinner."

Satoko eyed Subaru suspiciously, her distrust evident in her expression. "Okay, but no funny business, okay?"

Subaru nodded quickly, feeling a bit intimidated by Satoko's directness.

Rika chuckled softly. "Don't worry, Satoko. Subaru is just a lost traveler. He's harmless."

Satoko shrugged, still eyeing Subaru warily. "Fine, but I've got my eye on you."

Subaru swallowed nervously, realizing that gaining Satoko's trust would be harder than he thought. With Rika's reassurance, however, he followed them into the dining area, hoping that dinner would go smoothly.
