Chapter 6: The Jewel:
Cinduri's POV:
I had to do all my house chores. After putting the last bundle of clean straw into the animal pens, I ran off toward the lake.
. . .
Cinduri: Godfather Snake, oh Godfather Snake
Godfather Snake of the magic lake
Come to my help,
For your daughter's sake!
The snake appeared and I told him my troubles.
"My beautiful little Goddaughter, you deserve one magical evening," he said, "see this beautiful jewel in my forehead? Take it!" I then took the jewel, but it was too hot to touch. "Don't drop it! Now turn round and round, like this." I then watched the snake twist his body in a circle, and I copied it. As I twirled around, I felt myself being wrapped in cloth of the purest gold threads. Magnificent jewels appeared in my hair and my throat. When I heard my feet tinkling gently, I looked down at my ankles. I saw two of the most beautiful anklets I have ever seen, decorated with tiny belts and covered with diamonds that sparkled in the moonlight. "Go to the festival, but at midnight, when they light the candle, you must return home. The magic will be over."
"Thank you, Godfather, for this beautiful gift," I said, "no matter what happens, I promise to leave at midnight."
