Augustus could not believe what had happened on the last day. He had entered the factory, set on nothing but enjoying all the chocolate that the place offered. Indeed, the factory tour itself was magical. A room completely filled with edible chocolate. An inventing room with the most mysterious candies with interesting side effects. An entire room full of squirrels that manages the nut supply. An experimental television room able to broadcast live candy into any television in the world. To Augustus, it was a dream come true, being surrounded by nothing but his favorite thing in the world.
But what made this dream better was that, now it was all his.
It was difficult in the chocolate room. Since everything was edible, Augustus was distracted by just about everything. The weird plants growing from the grass? Augustus immediately swallowed them whole. The weird chocolate berries growing from the trees? The trees were picked clean by the time Augustus was done with them. Heck, Augustus would have gone for the chocolate river had the tour lasted just a bit longer in the room.
Instead, as his stubby legs were bending down towards the thick, warm river in the center of the room, he was immediately pulled away by his mother. "Augustus, what are you doing?" Mrs. Gloop said. "Don't just wander off like that. The tour is about to continue." Just like that, Augustus's chocolate river dream was quickly smashed as he was dragged onto a candy boat. Sure, Wonka provided everyone with a cup of the river chocolate, but it was just not enough to satiate poor Augustus.
And so, for the rest of the tour, Augustus was completely distracted by anything that was chocolate. The chocolate that will never melt in the sun? Augustus was gladly snacking on it as everyone watched Violet chew her gum. Squirrels producing chocolate-enhanced nuts? The railing was too tight for Augustus to squeeze through, and all he could do was stare at the nuts, ignoring Veruca pleading to Wonka as she was thrown down the garbage chute. Chocolate teleportation? Augustus was too focused on the giant piece of chocolate to notice the commotion going on the television, though the Oompa Loompas were able to hold him off. Alas to Augustus the only "magical" thing that mattered was the chocolate.
It was this aloofness to the rest of the tour that somehow led to his victory. Next thing he knew, he was in a weird glass elevator flying across an ocean, chewing on his hundredth chocolate bar. As he saw Germany appear in the distance, the reality of this entire situation hit him hard. The factory tour was over, and he did not get enough chocolate.
"Mistah Wonka, where is the chocolate you promised?" Augustus asked as the glass elevator landed in front of his father's butcher shop.
"Well, here's the best part out of all of this," Wonka said. "I have been looking for a heir for many years, and it seemed like I found one in you."
"Me? But I don't want to run the factory. I just want a lifetime supply of chocolate."
"And you'll get that chocolate, if you just come to the factory with me."
That was enough to get Augustus to come with Wonka back into the factory. Nevermind that his poor mother was left behind, screaming at Augustus to come back. His mind was set. All the chocolate in the world, and it was at his fingertips.
And here he was, standing in the very room that the tour began in. The massive room filled with chocolate. Truly, a dream came true for the fat German boy, and he was going to live in this dream forever. Ignoring Wonka's request to meet him about an upcoming chocolate shipment, Augustus dug into the chocolate room, his pudgy arms clawing at the dirt as he stuffed handfuls of chocolate grass into his mouth. He waddled towards the chocolate trees and bit down on its bark, shredding the entire tree within minutes. Day after day, Augustus would do nothing but eat everything in the chocolate room. Whenever he felt thirsty, he would walk to the chocolate river and drink straight out of it, disgusting the Oompa Loompas and Wonka. But there was nothing they could do. Augustus's cravings for chocolate was insatiable, and his desire to do nothing but eat it has taken up his entire mind.
The days became weeks, the weeks became months. Soon, it became clear that the chocolate in the room was starting to run out at an alarming pace, especially with all the plants completely consumed by the gluttonous freak. Still, Augustus seemed to pay no attention, not like he could move anyways. His months eating in the chocolate room had left him big and swollen, and the injuries he sustained from clumsily rummaging around the room were left untreated, leaving him crippled. Somehow, even his injury and worsening stature did nothing to stop his rampage across the room. Augustus ate and ate and ate until one day, he felt great pressure on his chest before falling over on his face, where he laid for hours until the Oompa Loompas, having abandoned the room a long time ago, discovered his corpse. Augustus had died of excess chocolate.
An autopsy showed that, due to how much he was consuming, Augustus's body had effectively turned into chocolate. His chocolate heart was pumping out streams of molten chocolate, causing strain on his body as the thick chocolate began blocking his arteries. His heart eventually gave out and exploded into a chocolate mess, which was what sealed Augustus's fate.
Wonka could do nothing but stare at the damage done. He had lost millions of pounds of chocolate within a few months, and was nowhere near closer in getting a proper heir. It was as if choosing Augustus had just hastened the factory's demise. Sighing, Wonka turned around and looked at the chocolate boy. There was only one thing left that he could do, to salvage what was left of his factory's chocolate and make the most out of Augustus.
And so, Wonka released his last new line of chocolate, which was a hit around the world, with many complimenting its unique taste. However, the new income was not enough to balance out the chocolate shortage, and as such, the factory was forced to close, Wonka refusing to sell his factory to any competitor. A legendary factory, forced to shut down all because one boy was unable to think about anything else. Thus is the fate of Augustus Gloop.
