Chapter 10: Sue found the Trap

(At the School Parking lot…)

George paused and readied his boom mike as he and Sue walked through Ewen High School.

"Okay, we're speeding. Three, two, one." Sue replied.

"Yeah, just introduce yourself and tell me what you ate for breakfast." George replied.

"Um. Sue." Sue replied. "Toast."

"Okay, um, maybe a little more. Tell me a joke or something." George replied.

"A joke?" Sue asked in concern.

"Mm-hm." George replied, as his idea and his boom mike.

Sue gulp.

"What do you call a dead polar bear?" Sue asked in concern.

George nodded.

"Anything you want. It can't hear you now." Sue replied.

George laughed at Sue and took his headphones off.

"That was funny." George replied, as he pointed. "You're funny."

Sue smiled and walked.

"Pretty hilarious joke." Sue replied.

"Fun fact: Did you know Chamberlain has more dead residents than living ones?" George asked.

"Yeah, that's how cemeteries work." Sue replied.

George pointed out at Wertheimer's Hardware.

"Wertheimer's Hardware, run by the Illuminati. Lizard people." George replied.

"Lizard people?" Sue asked in concern.

"Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein, and Beyoncé? How do you think we got the pyramids?" George asked in concern as he walked back.

"Slaves?" Sue asked in concern.

"Movie theater." George replied. "That one's haunted."

Sue paused to George.

"I don't believe in ghosts." Sue replied.

George stopped and turned around to Sue.

"What? How can you-? I mean, all the evidence! You don't believe in spirits?" George was shocked and pointed out.

"No. I think we're all just kind of meat puppets." Sue replied.

George got an idea.

"There's something you need to see." George replied, as he dashed off. "I'll grab his wheels."

George turned around and walked, Sue followed him, they rushed out of her Silver Volvo Hatchback car…

(Later at Shandor Mining Company…)

Sue and George in her car the gravel road to the entrance to the Shandor Mining Company property. The broken fence was still not repaired from her grandfather Egon ramming it.

George got an idea to convince Sue that ghosts exist. They went to the Shandor Mining Company property. Sue the read the warning signs:

EST 1927 SHANDOR MINING Co, ROAD CLOSED AHEAD, NO TRESPASSING.

"Are we even allowed to be there?" Sue asked in concern.

"Oh, yeah. Totally. The mine's been closed since the '40s. They just put all these signs up 'cause of hazardous chemical leaks and on account of dynamite. I do this." George replied.

George demonstrated his safety measures, covering his nostril and mouth with his shirt. As Sue and George walked towards a giant old cloth covering an entrance into the mine.

"The whole town was basically a mining operation. They bore out this mountain like grapefruit and smelted everything into cold-riveted selenium girders." George replied.

"Why would you make a steel beam out of an electric conductor like selenium? Right?" Sue asked in concern.

"Weird. Until one day, they were forced to close down the whole enchilada." George replied.

"Why?" Sue asked in concern, as she turned to them.

"One by one, miners who had worked for years began leaping down the mine shaft to their death. They called it the Shandorian Curse." George replied.

George backed up behind a raggedy cloth covering up an entrance and vanished. Sue peered in and followed. They looked at carvings against a stone wall that matched those on the mountain.

"Who built these?" Sue asked in concern.

"Depends who you believe. One day, they just showed up without explanation." George replied.

"Cool." Sue replied.

Sue looked up at the carvings…

(Later at the Farmhouse…)

Tommy ratcheted under the hood of Ecto-1 in the barn then closed it. A headlight casing fell off. He sighed, picked it up, and walked to the driver's side. He pulled the cover off, revealing all of Ecto-1.

"What a shitbox." Tommy replied, as he watched Ecto-1.

Meanwhile, Sue and George are in Sue's car alongside the gravel road to the Farmhouse.

"So, what's your boom mike about?" Sue asked in concern.

"Oh, um, mostly mysteries and the unknown, conspiracy theories, occasional restaurant reviews." George replied.

"Maybe I could check it out sometime." Sue replied.

"Really?" George asked in concern.

"Yeah." Sue replied.

George handed him a his Little Pony flash drive and gave Sue.

"The show really finds its voice on Episode 46." George replied.

"Okay." Sue replied, as she accepted it and tucked it in a pocket.

"Uh, hey. Look, this is totally cool if this is a "no." Zero presh. Uh, but, um… Do you wanna be my lab friend?" George asked in concern.

"Well, I don't think we're gonna be doing any labs, but yeah. Yeah, sure, I'd love to." Sue replied.

"Cool, cool. All right." George replied, as he was happy.

"Yeah. George, open my car, please." Sue replied.

"Sure." George replied, as he got out of Sue's car, he was standing.

"So, we saw Carrie." George replied.

"Yeah. Everyone laughs at Carrie." Sue replied.

"Hmm, yeah. You laugh at Carrie?" George asked in concern.

"Uh… No. Not yet. I did not laugh at Carrie. You laugh at Carrie?" Sue asked in concern.

"No, I did not laugh at Carrie. Chris and her friends laugh at Carrie?" George asked in concern.

"I know." Sue replied.

"Mr. Ulmann has a crush." George replied.

"Yeah." Sue replied.

"Too bad." George replied.

Sue turned her hand and pointed.

"Well, this is me." Sue replied.

Sue revealed the Farmhouse was her stop.

"The Dirt Farmer's house, right?" George asked in concern.

"Yeah, he was my grandfather." Sue replied, with a smile.

"No way, Sue!" George replied, with surprise.

George was surprised and he then got out his camera phone and held it horizontally.

"So you're just gonna your body in?" George asked in concern.

"Are you recording me?" Sue asked in concern.

"Yeah, just in case your body was pulled apart into tiny pieces by an unseen dark force." George replied.

Sue nodded.

"All right. Bye." Sue replied, her wave to goodbye George.

Sue turned up going to the Farmhouse's driveway…

(Later at Sue's bedroom in the Farmhouse…)

Sue walked into her bedroom, she looked at her new red dress to the prom, she smiled…

(Meanwhile, evening…)

At the Farmhouse evening, Sue brushed her teeth then spit into the sink and walked back into her bedroom. The two rooms were connected. As Sue turned to her red dress, turned, watched, and knelt down and realized a white knight had moved one square. As Sue moved a pawn to the square between the black pawn and her knight. She watched as a pawn moved on its own and stopped next to the white knight…

"Okay, so this is happening." Sue replied.

After Sue processed that, she advanced her knight and took a pawn. The white knight levitated and knocked her knight off the board… She moved aside then noticed the P.K.E. Meter was on and registered an entity. She jumped on her bed and faced the meter. Sue tried to communicate…

"Hello?" Sue asked in concern, as she looked around.

No verbal response. Sue hopped off the bed and picked up the P.K.E. Meter. She registered a stronger reading. She turned around and the arms lowered. As Sue waved it towards her door and it registered again, her closed bedroom door opened wide, she slowly peeked out into the hall. One by one, the hall lights turned on as she stepped forward. She followed the lights and meter reading downstairs. The meter arms dropped as Sue found her parents sleeping at the dining table with a glass of wine, a light turned on behind her. As Sue turned around and the meter registered…

The armchair suddenly slid forward and scooped her up then spun around. Sue gasped, checked, and turned her head to her parents... Eleanor and Edward's head moved a little but she was still asleep. As Sue looked down and noticed her shoes were on an odd pattern in the floor… She went on her hands and knees, placed the meter down, took a panel off and saw a covering. Sue slid pieces of floor panel around. It was a floor puzzle. She solved it and looked into a hidden space… Sue reached in and pulled out the Trap that her grandfather Egon hid before his death and watched to her parents…

(Later at the White Residence…)

Later that night, Carrie sat on her bed reading a book about the original Ghostbusters. She has been reading about telekinesis throughout the entire day whenever she had the chance (though maybe not at lunch since the bullies kept knocking her books off the table) and so far has learned a lot. She brought the books she borrowed from the library and took them home so she can keep learning more. Her word on what she said early in the day, she began to practice her powers.

Carrie closed the book she was reading. Turning slightly to her left, Carrie looked at the book across from her nightstand. She concentrated hard on it using her mind. The book started to lift and float in the air.

While Carrie was looking at the book across from her she uses one of her hands to make all of the books on her bed float and move in the air. She looked at all of the books floating in front of her as she started to smile…

Then one of the books fell to the ground as the lights started to flicker.

Margaret who was downstairs washing the dishes heard the loud noise and noticed the lights flickering as she looked up…

"Carrie?" Margaret asked.

Carrie using both of her hands started to make her whole bed levitate while at the same time the books were still floating in the air. She started gasping, seeing that she was starting to get how to use this ability much faster than she thought.

Downstairs, hearing her daughter not answer her, Margaret grabbed a knife and started to make her way to Carrie's bedroom as she started to think a lot of crazy religious thoughts.

When she got to Carrie's bedroom, Margaret grabbed the door but it was locked.

"Carrie?" Margaret asked.

Hearing her mother call her name and trying to open the door, Carrie felt scared as she immediately stopped levitating her bed and the books. Margaret opened the door and looked inside and saw… Carrie sleeping on the bed… Margaret was a little confused. She could have swore she heard something strange coming from her daughter's room.

Margaret places the knife on Carrie's nightstand and walks over to Carrie and strokes her hair. She begins to put a blanket over Carrie.

"I'm not going to let anyone hurt you, little girl. You're safe here with me." Margaret said to Carrie.

Though Margaret doesn't know Carrie is hearing her the whole time and recognizes what she put on the nightstand. Carrie couldn't believe her own mother may have tried to kill her.

Wanting to scare her mother a little, Carrie used her telekinesis on the knife and made it fall from the nightstand on the ground.

Margaret turned around hearing that and saw the knife had somehow fallen to the floor.

A small smile formed on Carrie's face. Maybe for the first time ever, things were gonna change for the better. At last…
