It had almost been 1 month since her dear husband was killed in battle due to injuries sustained from upper moon 3. Nanami began to embrace widowhood taking one day at a time the pain still there but becoming more manageable. She had been visited often by her fellow hashira checking in on her more Tengen and Ryuu since they were honoring Kyojuro's wishes.
Nanami sat at the table in silence drinking a cup of tea she had made. When there was a knock. She wasn't expecting any visitors today. When she opened the door she found Tanjiro Kamado standing in front of her. "Tanjiro, what brings you by?" She asked moving aside to let him in. "I came to visit you and see how you were doing. I also have something to tell you." He said. Nanami poured Him some tea as he sat down beside her. He took her hand in his making her look at him she could see the determination flickering in his eyes just as it did her husband's.
"The mission I went on with Mr. Rengoku. I have a message for you from him before he passed. He said that he loved you fiercely and that you were his guiding light and that no matter what happened he was always with you to watch over you." he told her. Tears welled up in her eyes but for the first time she smiled. "thank you Tanjiro. I needed to hear that. And he's right. I can feel him with me always. The warm breeze feels like a gentle caress. This home we built with love is like a blanket full of memories that I hold dear. He has now become my guiding light that I hope to make proud." She said Tanjiro smiled glad to see she was doing better. "There's another one I wanted to tell you about, it's about your father in-law Shinjuro. I just visited them before I came here but I may or may not have head butted him." he said his tone full of embarrassment as Nanami took a drink she ended up choking on her tea at the words headbutted.
"what! What happened?" she asked. Tanjiro began to tell her that he had went there to give them his last words as he had done with her. Senjuro was who he was talking to first when Shinjuro came out in a drunken rage yelling at Tanjiro. Senjuro told him to stop but Shinjuro had shoved Senjuro and that's when Tanjiro had head butted him knocking him out cold for a few. Nanami knew she had to visit them soon, poor Senjuro. He's had it rough. His big brother was his idol, someone he could look up to. "I went there to ask about sun breathing. There was a book but the pages were ripped out." he said to her. Nanami sighed before standing up " don't worry about Shinjuro I'll talk with him later. Thank you for sticking up for Senjuro." She told him.
Nanami and Tanjiro walked back to the butterfly mansion together when they heard a scream. And there was Tengen holding Miss Aoi over his shoulder while Kanao pulled on his clothing. "if you're going to be unflashy then say something!" he yelled. "Tengen what's going on?" Nanami asked just as Inosuke and Zenitsu had joined the commotion. Tengen turned to see Nanami out of her solitude.
"There she is the beautiful wisteria herself. You see, I need Miss Aoi here to help me locate my wives." He said. Nanami stared at him before Zenitsu blurted out "3? Did you say three wives?" He yelled. Nanami let out a small giggle "Tengen put her down, the three of us will go instead." Tanjiro said. Tengen looked at the three before putting Miss Aoi down. "OK then fine we need to infiltrate the entertainment district to find them. They are currently disguised as courtesans in the main whore houses. They has sent letters stating that weird things have been happening that relate to a demon. The letters since then have stopped coming and I'm worried about their safety." Tengen said.
"I'll go with you then. You need a woman right. I can go and help." Nanami stated. Tengen shook his head "I'm sorry Nanami but I can't risk your safety. Ryuu told me about the mission you went on where you hesitated. I can't have you doing that again and getting hurt."
Nanami stood her ground "It was one time Tengen! I'm better now since then. I can do this! Please let me help!" she said the determination flickering in her eyes. "If anything helps Uzui I'll go too." Ryuu said. He had shown up when Nanami had offered to go. Tengen bent down to study Nanami carefully before letting out a sigh "fine you can go but you do as I say if I get a glimmer of weakness you are to leave do I make myself clear?" He asked.
Nanami nodded "crystal clear and thank you. Let me run back to the estate real quick to get changed and pack a kimono and make up." She told him. Tengen nodded as she hiked up the hem of her kimono and took off running. Tengen smiled seeing the sight of the Nanami he knew she was coming back to her old self again.
Nanami rushed to the estate where she quickly undressed to change into her demon slayer uniform. She went with the sleeveless option like Tengen and went to grab her haori but she saw a box hidden behind it. Curiosity had taken a hold as she took the box and opened it. Inside was a beautiful white haori that had not only wisteria petals on it but flames.
touching The silk fabric she smiled it was made for her symbolizing the love she and Kyojuro had forged together. It even had the shoulders cut out like her old one. She put it on over her uniform and she could feel his spirit uniting with hers. The fire in her eyes was burning brightly. she quickly grabbed one of her most elegant kimonos and her makeup before putting it in a suitcase. Before she left she looked at the pictures on the walls before she went to the altar she had made in honor of him. "I'm leaving my love. Please continue to guide me." She said to the picture of him.
She stood before quickly leaving her home. When she caught back up to them the carriage was waiting. "Nice haori, it's very flashy." Tengen said. Nanami smiled, "It was a gift from Kyojuro." She said Ryuu watched her with pride. She had become more of herself again. He had faith in her. He knew she could do this mission.
Night descended over them as they arrived at their destination The bright lights along the streets hordes of people in every direction. "OK everyone, keep your cool and stay in the carriage," Tengen said. Nanami and Ryuu nodded Zenitsu and Inosuke on the other hand had abandoned ship leaving Tanjiro to chase after them.
After rounding back up they were in front of a small inn. They all changed into the outfits they would be wearing to look the part. Nanami put her makeup on and when she stepped out She laughed at the sight before her. Tengen has put makeup on Tanjiro and Inosuke "Tengen don't quit your day job!"she exclaimed. Tengen glared at her but his gaze softened at her. She was laughing. He watched her wipe the makeup off of Tanjiro and Inosuke's faces before reapplying the makeup."There now you don't Look like a bunch of clowns, " she said.
"Looks like we should have left the makeup to a woman." Ryuu snickered. Tengen laughed, "You're right." One by one Tanjiro, Nanami and Inosuke were taken by each of the whore houses. "Are you sure our girl will be alright in there?" Ryuu asked. Tengen nodded "she will she's got her husband looking out for her. Now let's gather intel." Tengen said as Him,Ryuu, and Zenitsu left the inn.
Nanami quickly got acclimated to her surroundings. Whispers amongst the ladies saying her beauty was rivaling lady Warabihime. Something about this place seemed off. Nanami was shown her room where she placed her makeup inside. She was told what was expected of her. Nanami knew she had to lie low and do as she was told.
as Night turned into day Nanami knew there was something definitely going on. She could hear some slithering around through the boards. Also she got into a conflict with the oiran Warabihime. While she was beautiful she had a very nasty attitude. She was terrorizing one of the younger girls to clean her room and Nanami had stepped in.
She had written a letter for Tengen's muscle mice to deliver for her. Now they just wait the demon would make it's appearance soon. It was just a matter of time.
