A honeyed beam of dawn filtered through the windows in the living room, casting a golden glow over the room. Hairi stretched lazily, leaning up against Nanami as they sat on the couch, sharing a loose knit blanket. His arm was wrapped around her shoulders in a loose embrace. His usual seriousness softened by the rare tranquility they had a moment to share.

Yuuji was sprawled out on the other side of the couch, his hair a wild mess from his sleep, still unkempt in the freedom of his day off. He flipped through the channels on the TV, looking for anything to watch. Early mornings with nothing more to do didn't come often, and they seemed to make him feel calm and content.

Hairi carefully slipped off the couch, careful not to disturb Nanami as he was beginning to doze off in the warmth of the sunlight. She wanted him to have whatever rest he could get. With how often she urged him to nap any other day, she'd feel awful interrupting the one time he actually had the chance to. In fact, she had thought that Yuuji joining their lives would mean more stress on his shoulders, but he had actually seemed to relax so much more.

She stepped into the kitchen, the aroma of fresh coffee filling the air as she brewed up a pot. Pouring out a couple mugs of the hot beverage, she couldn't help the smile that crept onto her lips. The quiet mornings, the shared laughter, the simple joy of being together… it was like a dream she hadn't dared to dream.

"Everything alright?" Nanami's deep voice broke through her thoughts as he joined her in the kitchen. Nanami wore a simple tee and loose gray sweats. It was a treat to see him dressed casually, he didn't choose to do it very often. She lifted her head and pulled a third mug from the cupboards, filling it as well.

"Yeah, everything's fine," Hairi replied, handing him one of the mugs and setting aside the piping hot one for herself so it had a chance to cool. "I wanted to let you nap for a bit."

He shook his head, accepting the cup and taking a sip. "We just got up, I don't need to sleep more," he wrapped an arm around her waist and set his cup aside in order to hold her. "And I can't resist the scent of your coffee," he said with a soft chuckle, his eyes warm as he met her gaze.

Yuuji bounded into the kitchen shortly after, his usual enthusiasm bubbling over as he deeply inhaled the delicious smell in the air. "Ooh, the coffee smells delicious. What's for breakfast?" he asked as he peered over Hairi's free shoulder.

"Do you feel like cooking?" Hairi turned the question over to Nanami.

He gave it some thought. "Sure, Yuuji, can you set the table?"

Yuuji quickly gathered the plates and set the table while Nanami cooked them breakfast. Hairi helped where she could, but ended up sitting nearby and listening to Yuuji as he recounted the events of the latest Human Earthworm movie. Nanami chuckled every so often at the absurd events he retold, a faint smile playing at his lips.

Hairi leaned her chin on her hand, her heart swelling as she watched the warm, domestic scene before her. She never thought she'd have a moment like this. But with Nanami and Yuuji, she found a little alcove in life to finally rest. She hoped they felt similarly. Safe and happy.

Nanami finished cooking once Yuuji was done retelling the recent movie. He set the delicious and simple spread on the table, joining them around the table. "Enjoy."

"I didn't know you could cook, Nanamin," Yuuji said as he piled his plate.

"We were working, it wasn't the time nor place for small talk," Nanami said simply. Yuuji frowned slightly and dug in, barely taking the time to breath between stuffing his face. Hairi smiled and shook her head.

In this quiet, soft morning, surrounded by her new family, Hairi felt so content. Here they had found a moment of peace, a brief calm outside their duties and the dangers of the cursed world. In that moment, Hairi knew that no matter what lay ahead of them, they would face it together, as a team strengthened with the love that filled their home.
