Chapter 2: Jason:

Jason's POV:

My name is Jason, and I am 20 years old. I was just watching the sea when an oracle came. "Jason, I know this is going to sound... strange," says the Oracle, "but I want you to dress as a Magnesian and head to the Iolcan court."

"If you say so," I said.

. . .

I did as the Oracle told me to and then I saw an old woman. She was about to fall into the muddy Anauros. I then helped her, but I lost my sandal at the same time.

"Oh, thank you," says the old woman.

"Are you alright," I asked.

"Oh, I'm fine, you just continue on your way," says the old woman. I then walked.

. . .

I saw the King making a sacrifice to Poseidon.

"It is I, your King, Pelias, and my son, Acastus! Now, for the sacrifice..." He then stops and sees me.

"UUUUUUUUUmmmmmmmmm... hello," I said.

"You there... What would you do if an oracle announced that one of your fellow-citizens were destined to kill you?"

"I would send him to fetch the Golden Fleece," I said... but I don't know why I said that!

"I would like to have a talk with you," says Pelias.

. . .

"Jason..."

"I don't believe I told you my name," I said.

"Yes, well... I'm being haunted by the ghost of Phrixus," says Pelias.

"What," I asked.

"Haunted by the ghost of Phrixus," says Pelias, "he fled from Orchomenus riding on a divine ram to avoid being sacrificed and took refuge in Colchis where he was later denied proper burial. According to an oracle, Iolcus would never prosper unless his ghost was taken back in a ship, together with the golden ram's fleece."

"So, that's why it's so special," I said, "but I have never even heard of it, so why-"

"This fleece now hung from a tree in the grove of the Colchian Ares, guarded night and day by a dragon that never slept," says Pelias, "I swear that if you were to retrieve the fleece, I will give the throne to you!"

"Me," I asked.

"Yes, you are my nephew," says Pelias, "your father was my half-brother!"

"Incredible," I said.

"Will you obtain the fleece," asks Pelias.

I then thought about it. "I shall," I said, "Uncle!"
