Underworld
Deep within a building made primarily to resemble an ancient european castle, a huge party was currently being concocted. The kind of party where most Devil nobility would have fun and enjoy their time with one another, where there was nothing wrong or could go wrong. It was a gathering of social events, fundraising or special events.
For the attending devils, this gathering was mostly just an ordinary one where they could show off their status and wealth. The every day citizen could see this as just a simple dick measuring contest beyween the higher and lower houses disguised behind the veil of civilty. These gatherings usually happened only when special events important to their society had occurred like grand weddings, the emergence of new adult pureblood devils, or even as a way to wind down from a mass orgy party… also known as a bukake party. They weren't nearly as common, but they did happen sometimes.
Though for this one, its not either of those. Instead…
"We're dead, we're dead, we're dead, we're dead, we are so dead!"
Almost all of the devils could be seen in a panicking frenzy, a couple of them were even hugging their knees close to their body while rocking back and forth, repeating those words like they were a sacred mantra. Children clung to their parents while crying, the adults trying to soothe their children but that only ended in vain especially since none of them could hide their own violently trembling forms even under a layer of pride like they usually did. Some Devils even thought hiding under some tables would be a good idea.
The reason why almost all of the devils were panicking…
"Calm down this instant son! Your embarrassing us!"
"Who gives a shit about that mother-"
"Don't you talk that tone with me young ma-"
"Face it mother! We'll be dead the moment they are here! Don't try to interrupt me, you know as well as I do what those monsters are capable of!"
"..."
"Their coming mother…. Hellsing is coming."
Those words that left a single rambunctious young Devil's mouth as tears streamed down his cheeks, all but compounded the fear, terror and dread everyone felt inside. The main reason causing all the devils to tremble before terror was that today was the rating game between Riser Phenex and the royal order of the protestant knights.
One specific family was sitting at a table, which happened to be the Phenex family who looked PARTICULARLY disgraceful and ashamed of their third son Riser Phenex actions. One could practically SEE the clouds of depression and despair flooding them at this moment, but no matter what NONE of that would be saving them from what was coming.
The male of the two, a man who went mainly by the name of 'Lord Phenex', resembled a spikey blonde haired, blue eyed man in his mid twenties, two bangs framing the sides of his jaw. He wore a very ornate-looking crimson suit with golden ornaments over the shoulders, forearms and knees with each one sharing a bird motif, a single badge strapped to his chest above his heart shaped like a phoenix's head.
Beside him sat his wife, Lady Phenex, who looked like an older version of her youngest daughter Ravel, with her blonde hair styled up high with ornamental decorations. She wore a mostly conservative-looking crimson dress save for the hole in the torso that showed off a not so insignificant amount of her bust, something many male Devils would have loved to oogle at when they thought she wouldn't notice if this were ANY other time and place.
Sitting opposite them were two people who had equally troubled expressions on their faces, both of them more than aware of the levels of fucked their friends were. One had the appearance of a middle-aged, handsome looking man with long crimson hair tied in a loose ponytail with a black hairband. He had bright blue eyes just like his two children, Sirzechs and Rias Gremory alongside a short and red stubble. He currently wore a clean, pristine white suit with a golden collar, black buttons, matching white pants and black dress shoes.
Sitting next to him was a youngish woman who, judging by the wedding ring on her finger that matched the man's, was his wife. This wife looked very much like her daughter with shorter flaxen hair and violet eyes, sporting a similar physical age to her son which was about her mid to late twenties.
They were both Zeoticus Gremory and Venelana Gremory, the parents of Rias Gremory and Sirzechs Lucifer.
"Quite an evening party isn't it?" Soon the matriarch of the Gremory spoke to Lord Phenex who spoke in a sarcastic tone to him. He faked a smile at the matriach of Phenex family before sneering and gripped his fist hard enough for his bones to crack. "A large gathering of devils who all came here to witness the downfall of the devil species and your family, Lord Phenex."
Lord Phenex put his hands on his face, looking like he wanted to crawl into a hole and die for all the shame and humiliation coming his way, the fact that he had no way of stopping it making things worse for him. "I never intended this to happen Zeoticus." he mumbled mournfully, wondering just HOW things had ended up as bad as they had.
"Never intended this to happen?" Zeoticus repeated those words to Lord Phenex in a fit of stunned disbelief. Though the following seconds saw the man's eyes narrow and start glowing a dim red as a sign that his demonic power was about to flare up in response to the agitation inside. "It was because of your son who can't keep his arrogance in check! If you had disciplined him none of this wouldn't have happened!" he snarled at his friend.
BAM!
Outraged, Lord Phenex slammed his fist onto the table hard enough to cause a loud boom, though not one that as loud enough to silence the rest of the room. "Do not try and shift my son's blame onto me, Zeoticus! How I raise my children is none of your concern!" he bellowed furiously.
The Gremory patriarch wasn't having it however, slamming his OWN fist onto the table as a way of fighting back without the desire to strangle his friend for his idiotic parenting skills. "The hell it is! All of the underworld is facing consequences born from that spawn of yours, and now Hellsing's wrath is upon us!" Zeoticus declared, standing up while pointing an accusing finger at him.
"Don't you dare call my son a spawn, Gremory! I know what my own flesh and blood has done and I'm ashamed of it! Do you not know the amount of disgrace he has brought upon my family?! In fact you came to me when you proposed a marriage between your daughter and my son!"
Both their wives opted to remain quiet to let their husbands vent their frustrations, knowing that this was their way of coping with their inevitable destruction. Plus Zeoticus had every right to be upset considering how he had thought his friend's son was respectable and smart enough NOT to antagonize a faction practically EVERY supernatural faction was scared shitless by. Sadly he had been mistaken in the worst way possible. The fact that Gremories were notoriously known for their strong emotional bonds wasn't helping matters either. "I only wanted what was best for my daughter and for my family! You say that your family's facing consequences?! Hah! Your not the only one facing the consequences of your son's actions! At least my daughter knew when to act on her emotions and didn't face Hellsing's Judgement, but your son…..He embodies the sin of pride! A sin he was most likely born with!"
The patriarch's dark crimson aura surrounded him while almost releasing his power of destruction into the room, gripping his fist as hard as he can.
Lord Phenex made to say something in retaliation, but stopped right before the words could leave his mouth. As much as he loathed to admit it, the man cannot find any fault in his friend's rant, his son was mostly born with a sin that embodies the devil itself. At first he allowed Riser to do what he wanted since he believe if he grew up he'll be mature but that was the opposite case whenever he see his son act so arrogant and many complained report that his son was acting out of his age.
He did not like what his son was becoming, he feared the worst was was going to happen and it came true when he announced a rating game between him and Hellsing. Now he's suffering for his negligence.
Uncaring for his friend's dismayed features, Zeoticus continued to speak while speaking in a grim tone. "Death is approaching to us soon the moment they arrive. Why? Just didn't you stop your son from committing to this madness, Lord Phenex?"
"I TRIED! I tried! But he wouldn't listen to a word I said! He just kept leaving the premises before I could put him under house arrest. This latest one was the worst! I tried to find him for a month by scouring every corner of the earth, but I couldn't find him!" Lord Phenex raged back, though soon enough his rage slowly left him resulting in the man having a tired facial expression before slumping down to his seat and putting his hands over his face again. "The Elders have simply pushed the marriage between Riser and Rias while ignoring the original marriage contract devised largely by your son with your son's queen's support. They were WILLING to spare both my son and daughter if they simply followed the contract. They showed mercy to our children, but Riser just didn't listen, arrogance and pride clouded his mind making him resemble the old devils back in the dark age."
Zeoticus stayed quiet while slowly descending to his seat, listening to his friend's words. His judgement told him that Lord Phenex had been waiting to vent all of this frustration out, and now the floodgates had been opened there was no stopping them now.
"I should've been stricter with my son, none of this would've happened. I'm sorry Zeoticus, I never wanted this to become a disaster like this. Hellsing was merciful to our children and Riser has angered them for the last time. Now all of the underworld is paying the price for my negligence." Lord Phenex laminated to the current situation while his wife put her hands on her husbands back while looking sad.
Seeing all of this, it didn't take long for Zeoticus to lose his angry expression in exchange for a solemn one. "Forgive me old friend, my emotions got the better out of me." He said while looking at a large, empty screen hovering above the party like some kind of judge waiting to condemn them to eternal damnation, one that would project an outside view of the rating game. "I can only pray to Lord Satan that Hellsing is merciful to your son once more."
"... I only hope so as well."
When after saying that, a magic circle got conjured near the Gremory family. Zeoticus and his wife turned their heads to gaze towards it and saw various individuals came out of the magic circle: their daughter and her peerage. She, along her peerage, looked like crap despite wearing party clothes as extravagant as the rest of the Devils in attendance. Their faces looked to be wrought with exhaustion like they had been running marathons nonstop through the sahara desert, add in the looks of sheer despair in their eyes and one could tell that they weren't having a very good time.
Strolling towards her parents, the group took their seats across the table, slumping like puppets cut from their strings as they allowed their full exhaustion to show probably for the first time in days. Although they wore those fancy dresses and expensive-looking suits for the males and females respectively, none of them looked at all as presentable as they should have been which only further exacerbated the worries within the Gremory matriarch and Patriarch. Even Lord and Lady Phenex nearly did double takes from what they were seeing.
Venelana furrowed her brows before getting closer to her daughter. "What happen to you Rias? You look so….exhausted. Have you gotten enough sleep?" She asked her daughter while worrying for her mental state. Considering the recent activities Riser had done, she wouldn't blame her daughter if Rias said she hadn't had a good night sleep. Though she hadn't put much stock in the rumors that had circulated around Riser and his conduct due to not wanting to be too narrow-minded, she couldn't help but wonder if they had some stock to them after all, seeing the situation that had unfolded for the Underworld.
Rias shook her head in negative to her mother. "Its fine mother, I did sleep well… most of the time." she said before muttering the last part under her breath so her mother wouldn't hear.
The mistress of Gremory wasn't convinced by her daughters word and she almost heard what she said under breath. "Are you sure about that dear? You can tell me what happen and I wo't bi-"
"Mother can we PLEASE not talk about this?" Rias interrupted her mother insistence, her begging gaze pretty much stating that she didn't want to talk about the subject.
Venelana was almost taken back by her daughters insistence. She would normally would continue to dive in to the matter but in her mind, Venelana theorized it had to do something with the Hellsing. Not wanting to cause any more negative to the situation, the worried mother nonetheless nodded her head in compliance with her daughter's wishes. "If you say so Rias." Deciding to shift the topic to something else, Venelana shifted her attention to the screen as well as Rias and her peerage.
A few feet away from the Gremory and Phenex family, Hijikata Toshizo leaned back on the exquisite couch he'd perched himself atop of, making himself comfortable with his arms spread across the couch's back. He ignored the devils scared expression since it was a typical thing for them to be scared of Hellsing literally.
As for why he was here, well, it had to do with something he wanted to do before the Rating Game had been allowed to begin. It had been a hassle, convincing the Devil authorities (IE Sirzechs) to let him arrive, but once he had gotten a certain response from one specific individual, his trip here had been all but certain. Hence why he was currently lazing about right now, waiting for that individual to show up. Although to say he was excited yet nervous about the upcoming meeting wouldn't be that far off either.
Breathing out through his nose, the man closed his eyes while leaning his head further back, remaining silent for a few moments before he spoke out of nowhere. "I was wondering when you would finally come say hi." he mused casually, opening one eye to see a lone figure confidently strolling over to the couch. The figure stopped before it, before turning around and sitting down next to Toshizou who offered no resistance to the figure's presence. "You always were the lazy one back in Shinsengumi…" Opening his other eye, Hijikata fully turned his head to gaze at the figure with a knowing smirk spreading across his lips. "…..Souji Okita."
The figure, Souji Okita, didn't verbally respond at first. He appeared to be a mild-featured young man with short, light brown hair and red-brown eyes. He wore the standard Shinsengumi uniform: a white cravat around his neck tucked into a black vest with a yellow lock. This was beneath a dark, unbuttoned jacket reaching to the thigh with a collar, decorated with gold buckles, buttons, and triangular-shaped cuffs. His black trousers were supported by a brown belt with a silver buckle while his sheath holding his signature weapon for his time: his Katana, currently lay strapped to his hip. Over his feet he wore black, heavy boots with a small heel.
"Its good to see you again, vice commander." Okita responded to his former boss in a grateful tone, despite their current surroundings being rather hectic for lack of a better term. One could almost say the two were lost in their own little world right now, which wouldn't be too far off considering their history. "You know, I almost did not believe that you were back to the world of the living, commander. Its almost unreal to see you alive, flesh and blood, sitting near me. Its almost feels like a dream."
"Do you want to wake up from this dream?"
"...I guess not."
The both of them was silent for a few minutes before Hijikata sparked up another conversation topic, by glancing at his former ally and noticing the aura of demonic energy being emitted from his form. "So…you joined the devils side, haven't you?" he remarked with a neutral expression.
A simple nod came first from his former ally who returned his gaze. "I have commander." Okita answered, looking a bit ashamed. "Are you disappointed in me, sir?"
"Why would I be? You choose your own path, I respect that." the former samurai assured his fellow soldier with an easygoing grin. He wouldn't be a hypocrite in admonishing his former subordinate for joining a widely viewed 'despicable' faction when he himself had done just that. "Besides, if anything YOU have the right to hate ME." he told him, to Okita's surprise. At this, Hijikata's gae focused downwards, darkening with sadness only an old war veteran could express. "Remember, I'm the one who drove us to extinction…"
PAT!
"?"
His depressed reverie got broken when he felt a hand place itself atop his right shoulder, grasping it firmly yet not too firmly that it would become uncomfortable. He raised his head to look at the source, that being a serious looking Okita whose gaze resembled a firm drill instructor. "You didn't commander, you did the best you can. None of the squad hate you for what happened sir, they followed you for a reason." Okita assured his former vice commander. "Do you remember the time when one of our squadmates asked you to be his best man at his wedding and gave a speech about you? He never regretted saying those words…" he spoke, stunning Hijikata into silence. That silence didn't last long however, for a snide smirk formed on Okita's features. "…well except the time you made the entire Shinsengumi broke."
"Hey that wasn't my fault! I was throwing the greatest bachelor party for him! Its supposed to be an eventful for him!" the former vice commander protested, having lost much of his prior depression in exchange for a more childish demeanor.
In response, Okita looked at him like he were a parent disciplining an unruly child. "And how much did that cost you? All the sake, booze and the entire red light district?"
For a moment Hijikata tried to counter his former subordinate but no words came out of his mouth. So in the end, he hung his head in defeat. "...You got me there." he remarked through gritted teeth while rubbing his hand over the back of his head.
Nodding in satisfaction at his usually stubborn former commander's relenting to him, Okita smirked triumphantly before he turned serious once more. "The point is, none of us hated you for bringing Shinsengumi down to the ground, sir. We can't change the past no matter how much we may want to, so instead we should focus on the future instead of being trapped in the past. Its time to accept that we are no longer needed, the Shinsengumi is no more." Okita lectured, patting Hijikata's shoulder a couple times.
"I guess your right Souji." Hijikata said while deflating himself, like as if a massive weight was lifted from his shoulder. That wasn't entirely wrong either, hearing that none of his former comrades hated him for his flawed leadership clouded by rage against the west's capitalist invasion into his homeland felt like he had been reborn or something.
"If it makes you feel better, we're not gone completely. One of the Satans, Sirzech Lucifer actually, is why we're alive right now. He used some means i'm not allowed to disclose to revive myself as well as the rest of the Shinsengumi to act as the underworld's secret police force."
"?!"
Now THIS completely surprised Hijikata down to the core, to the point where he almost fell to the ground when he heard the news. "What? What did you say? That siscon revived the Shinsengumi!?" he shouted in disbelief, though thankfully none of the Devils noticed due to being too busy moping about their inevitable fate.
"I imagined that would be a surprise to you, commander." Okita nonchataly respond to Toshizo. He couldn't help but grin at the dumbfounded features the former vice commander was currently sporting right now. "Apparently, the New Satans needed some muscle to help bring order and stability to the underworld, considering how we are most likely the most hated faction after the UK one, the number of arrogant devils has doesn't help either. Its a hard job to get done, considering this is the devils we're talking about." Okita shook his head with a rueful chuckle, his gaze slating down towards the ground. "We only managed to stop a few pillar heirs from acting out, but not the rest. Handling civilians back in Japan was childsplay compared to this."
Hijikata put in a concerned expression aimed at his former subordinate, not liking what he was hearing about the underworld's situation. "Is that good news or bad news?" He questioned, though internally he felt like bashing the current Satans for not having a tighter grip on their subjects. Meredith had hit the nail on the head in her admonishment of Sirzechs back then, didn't she?
"Do you even want to know the worst of it? I'll admit that the devils are getting closer to extinction if they continue with this behavior." Okita rebuked at Hijkata before looking at the ground. He sighed after a few seconds, his shoulders dropping like they were puppets cut from their strings. "(SIGH) I miss those times, before I was reincarnated into a devil when I used to be human." Lifting his head and brushing back some bangs from his eyes, Okita shifted his attention to his vice commander. "You know, you could visit us when you have time. We'd love to go out for drinks some time, though I doubt we'd be free very often."
Hijikata thought about it before he added in his input. "I could give a hand around with the…New Shinsengumi, if i'm free since I have my own duties. Right now, I am bound to my duty to Hellsing for now so if the opportunity arises, I would show that we are not to be reckoned with." Slightly lowering his gaze, his upper face slightly darkened as a dark gleam shone behind his eyes, a dark smile forming on his lips. "Maybe a bit of discipline can help out with the naughty devils."
A small laugh escaped the Devil beside him, amusement at the memories that look dredged up from the back of his mind, revolving around the Shinsengumi's early days. Oh, the nostalgia. "That would be great, sir. The boys would love to spar with you like old times." he remarked, a wistful smile forming on his face. It then shot up a layer of awkwardness when he said the following. "As for the discipline, I don't think you need to do that because right now, we are about to witness the downfall of the third son of Phenex family." Okita shift his attention to the screen. "I think it will become a bloodbath, wouldn't you say so commander?"
"...You don't need to know my answer, you already know what its gonna be."
Elsewhere - office room
"Oh dear Satan, why did I ever take the Lucifer position?" A familiar red haired man laminated, hands converging over his face whilst he preoccupied himself with trying so hard not to fall into the same despair affecting his people like a sickness spreading throughout their ranks. Though with the upcoming unpleasant business, that task proved to be increasingly difficult.
Sirzech Gremory Lucifer currently isolated himself within his office, strolling back and forth along the carpet beneath his feet akin to a schoolgirl awaiting a text message from her crush. Whilst he still looked like the regal lord he should be in terms of appearance, his currently fretting expression betrayed the underlying fear and despair flooding his system at such quantities he had not felt since prior to the Devil civil war. Despite his office being exotic it couldn't help him get rid of the impending doom he's feeling inside right now. No amount of wealth could help him this time just because of how massive the screwup had been. Not only had Riser angered Hellsing, but he'd also brought a massive calamity towards their race.
Hellsing had initially at least kind enough to interfere with politics to where it was possible to allow his sister to be free until she graduated college or university, like how the original contact stipulated of which he had been using that excuse for a longass time to delay the machinations his fellow kin kept concocting to speed up the marriage. He was grateful for them, specifically Meredith Ordinton for reading the original contract instead of the devil elder pushing the marriage and Riser in his infinite arrogance and pride, not to mention that apparently unlike him, the elders didn't wish to entagonize Hellsing for fear of being deported to the afterlife. Something anyone could get behind, but it still expressed the frustrating reality of his lack of respect and authority throughout the Devil race.
Leaning against a wall, Sirzechs trembled in place when he remembered when word got out that there was going to be a rating game between Riser and Hellsing, how shit went down FAST.
It all started faster than he would visit Rias if he heard she had broken an arm. Serafall had instantly teleported to his office to ask if what people had been saying was true and regretfully he confirmed it was true.
Needless to say, Serafall naturally did not take this news very well, considering how much demonic energy she released that day wound up not only freezing his entire office and floor… but a good portion of the entire Underworld. A downright BLOODTHIRSTY Serafall then took it upon herself and gave Sirzechs a VERY hard lecture about the consequences the match between Hellsing and Riser Phenex would have on them, no matter who won or lost… those consequences being cataclysmic. It didn't help that during her fury the security had to battle against almost 'living ice' that had been conjured into existence via the female Devil's power, her own fury reflecting the sheer ferocity the ice fought back with.
At the end of it, she just furiously stared at Sirzech before teleporting back home where he could guess she and her family are preparing to at least please Hellsing. Never before had Sirzechs EVER seen her so furious, so downright willing to commit mass murder and downright genocide that made her resemble the original leviathan. More so than even the natural descendent of said bloodline who was part of the old satan faction. That fury of hers had chilled him not to the bone, but Sirzechs' very SOUL, making him wonder if that power could have made her a Super Devil like him, Ajuka and… one other who he should not name.
"Oh who am I kidding. I don't deserve the title Lucifer or New Satan." He bemoaned a fact that had become increasingly apparent the more days that passed by. The weight on his shoulders proved to be too much for the man, resulting in him putting his hand on his face in both frustration and tired. Sirzechs really wished he could just retire and give his position to a more fitting role for Lucifer. Maybe an experienced or retired general who has great amount of influence to the devil soldiers.
This made him think about in the past, before he and the others took the Four Satan positions, all the way back to when the originals still ruled the underworld. In the past when he was young, he never agreed with the whole 'superior devil' philosophy that had dominated their race at the time, in fact he believed that everyone was equal to one another, that peace should be something to be striven towards instead of all this conflict that had been destroying many innocent lives. The humans during the vietnam war had the right idea with their slogan: 'make love, not war'. It didn't help that there had been countless times when the originals abused the power they had, keeping an almost iron-like tight grip on the subordinate Devils with fear and might.
The thing was, after the originals finally perished during the Great War, their direct children Rizevim Lucifer, Bidleid Beelzebub, Tsufaame Leviathan and Damaidodu Asmodeus had been expected to replace their parents. However one of them who was still alive today didn't care for the role so the other three had taken their mantles instead.
Ever since then, thanks to the way that they handled the power balance and the growing strife between the different Devil classes a bunch of tensions had been sown into their society. Nevermind how the Satan clans based their power on both their combat strength and heritage, it didn't take long for future heirs to be intimidated by the new Satans as well as the 72 pillar houses quickly realized that they were seen as lesser than the Clans who had the Satans in the first place. Basically like expendable pawns.
That had sown further seeds of discontent throughout the Devils, only exaggerated further by how in response to the three new Satans declaring their intent to continue the great war, the houses of Bael and Agares planned a coalition to stop this from happening. Not only was their race practically BATTERED by the Great War with countless problems as a result of their almost single-minded focus on proving their superiority, but the absence of the TRUE Satans, the originals, gave rise to greater discontent due to their successors not having even HALF of the power the originals had.
Things had finally came to a head when the 'Lucifaad Massacre' happened in which a Beezebub descendent ordered a resistance in the city be slaughtered without care for the civilians caught in the crossfire, something that absolutely happened with hundreds of innocent Devils caught in the crossfire… at least that was the OFFICIAL number. The true numbers had been kept hidden from the public by those up top at the time, and those who had tried speaking up found themselves either exiled, executed or straight up tortured into debunking their prior claims.
THAT had been the cause for the Devil Civil War at last, and at the time Sirzechs alongside his fellow Satans knew which side they had been on.
Just when Sirzech started delving into more of the past with the intent of trying to figure out where it all went wrong...
"Yo!"
"HHAAA!"
BOOM!
Sirzech literally jumped when someone suddenly scared him to death by announcing their presence without warning. It caused the man to literally skip a few heartbeats as he accidently released his Power of Destruction in the form of a small blast, almost destroying part of his office. Smoke covered the figure thanks to the shot landing close to them, though the redhead Devil could still see their silhouette.
"Was that any way to greet someone or has the position made you more of a scaredy cat?" Sirzech heard a voice comment with a mischievous, nonchalant chuckle before the smoke dispersed. This wound up revealing a figure to be casually lounging on top of the redhead's chair, a pair of crossed legs dangling atop his desk like they were marking their territory. Soon enough Sirzechs noticed it was male, and when the smoke finally cleared in full his eyes nearly flew out of their sockets. 'Goddamnit, can I just have a BREAK from all these surprises?! Just one break, that's all I ask!' the man whined in his mind, almost breaking into crocodile tears from the stress.
Just from the large sword laning next to the chair alongside the man's physical appearance, Sirechs could easily comprehend his identity. Though that didn't decrease his stress by any. "What are you doing here Jin Toujou or better yet, how did you get here?" Sirzech asked the culprit, a man who could be almost as notorious as Alucard throughout Devil Society:
Jin Toujou
Said man rolled his eyes at the obviously distressed official while calmly smoking a cigarette. "Oh thats simple." He stated, rolling his shoulders before raising a hand. He then pointed to the open window behind him with his thumb. "I just hopped on through the window." he stated as if he were casually talking about the weather.
"Bullshit." Sirzech bluntly stated with an 'i'm so done with this' kind of expression before marching across the office to stop before his desk. He was about to ask more but he wanted to get the clarification from Jin. "Just why are you here Jin? You couldn't have come at a worse time than now when there's a situation that is out of my control."
Once again, the uncaring Jin shrugged his shoulders before he lowered his legs from the seat to plant them on the ground, standing upright afterwards while grasping his sword's hilt. "Well I was lounging around the neighborhood for a while, doing some photography and posting them on twitter before I heard that a single devil has challenged the queen's bodyguard." he then sat down on the Office's nearby couch. "That's is something I gotta see, just wondering how many seconds he has before he realized he's screwed." he remarked, sniggering at the images conjured into existence within his mind.
Such amusement was NOT shared by the current Lucifer however, judging from the sheer death glare that he sent the human's way. "This is not a joking matter, Jin. My race is on the verge of extinction because Riser couldn't keep his arrogance in check and you are talking about how long he has to live?" he snarled while gripping his fists, restraining himself from lashing out. Although this man before him may be a normal human, but his reputation spoke otherwise and Sirzechs had been made aware why various factions didn't want to mess with this man.
Speaking of said man, Jin rolled his eyes at the angry Devil in his pretty standard nonchalant manner. "Hey, its not my fault that he wasn't properly raised. If I were you, I would've retired and be done with this shit." He takes out a ciggarate and lights it up before he smokes. "I mean come on, you need a break once in a while instead of trying to keep the devils in check."
Sirzech shook his head before heading to his desk and sitting it back down before putting his hand on his head. "If it only was possible, but I can't Jin. You know as well as I do that Hellsing follows that 'actions speak louder than words' policy of theirs. I have to at least make sure that the Rating game goes smoothly because if this doesn't…" his face turned grim when he said the following. "I will be meeting with HIM shortly." He lifted his head to then turn his attention to the now stoic-looking hero. "Now that your here, can you at least assure me that nothing will go wrong?"
Jin was silent for a few minutes, his cigarette still smoking while he debated within his mind on what to tell the man. He wasn't someone who had any optimistic bones in him, real life had taught him a harsh lesson on that shit, resulting in him being silent for some time before he finally reached a conclusion. "I can't promise you anything, Sirzechs." he stated grimly, much to the Satan's dismay. Although he hadn't been hoping for much it had been something Sirzechs had been hoping for anyways. Taking his cigarette out his mouth, Jin held it in his free hand whilst he puffed out a cloud of smoke. He looked up towards the ceiling before his gaze fell onto the redhead man's, his sword now strapped to his back. "Things are getting intense now, in no small part due to what your people have done. I wouldn't normally agree to this since I also do NOT want to meet with that monster again but, for our sake….lets hope that nothing goes wrong with the match. If the worst comes, I will at least help out with the situation."
"That is all I'm asking." Sirzech gratefully said to Jin, not having expected anything else. If there was one thing that he knew about this man, it would be that he at least kept his word when it counted, and that was usually what happened with him. Every time he made a promise it had been done taking in the variables of a situation, meaning that there was likely a good chance that he'd have to keep it. Something which added a new level of worry to the ones piled like junk in Sirzechs' gut, but mollified by the confirmation that he had Jin's help to fall back on if necessary. Using his supernatural hearing Sirzechs heard some increased activity coming from the main hall prompting him to leap into action. He did so by checking his mental clock, noticing that it would soon be time for the Rating Game to begin. "It has began."
Rating game
"Hello everyone, I am Grafiya, a maid from the house of Gremory and today I will b arbiter of the unofficial Rating game between the house of Phenex and…the house of Hellsing."
The wife of Sirzechs lucifer declared the prior stated announcement through her magical speakers with the impartiality her station required…for the most part since she paused for a moment near the end. The various Devils each burst into chatter upon hearing the announcement, mixed messages being sent across the ballroom. They already knew who was gonna win, they were just preparing for an incoming bloodbath that was going to take place in the aftermath. Although they had little choice but to arrive, nonetheless none of the Devils felt even a SMIDGE of safe in their seats at the moment knowing one of this rating game's player's patchent for causing mass genocide.
"In the name of my master Sirzechs Lucifer I will be keeping an eye on this match. By the insistence of Hellsing, they requested the battle will take place in London, the capital city of England."
From there, the screen started showing the city of London after a bright flash briefly overtook it. Following this, lights began to turn on through the streets of london, making it a magnificent sight to the viewers. Across the streets, house lights were turned on as well, London bridge and the Big Ben. The crowd will have to admit that London looked so beautiful during night, a glorious sight for tourists whenever they explored London.
"The location where both teams were transported will be their base. Riser-sama base would be in the Buckingham Palace, located near St James' park. And for Hellsing, their base shall be in the Westminister Palace, located at the north bank of the River Thames."
BOOM!
Thunder struck at the Westminister palace, making the devils shriek and almost faint like little pansy bitches. The lightning struck as if it was to intimate or scare the devils…in which case it definitely proved super effective.
Westminster palace
Inside of the palace was the Hellsing group, consisting of Kuroh, Vali, Theseus, Mio, Maria, Issei and Meredith.
Their faces were clouded in darkness as Kuroh and Vali sat on opposite sides of a couch, looking at the ground while Meredith sat on a chair behind a desk, crossing her legs over one another and interlocking her fingers over said desk.
Mio stood beside Meredith like she were her secretary, having quickly assumed her Demonic transformation in prep for battle while having her lance and her fathers sword stabbed into the floor on either side of her hips.
Maria sat on the side of Meredith's desk with her legs idly kicking the air.
Issei crossed his arms while leaning against a wall, already looking like a badass at the moment which he cheered himself mentally for recreating the pose.
And as for Theseus…
CRACKLE-CRACKLE.
He stood on the palace rooftop, scorched marks surrounding his figure. When lightning struck the palace, it had hit Theseus directly but unlike when it'd hit a NORMAL person it did not harm him. Instead it only added lightning effects to his form, electrical arcs dancing around his body like he were a lightning rod. His non-weapon hand had been positioned into a claw-like gesture whereas the other currently grasped his trident's shaft, the weapon gleaming with the same intention of it's wielder.
"Now its the time for the commencement of the battle between Hellsing and house of Phenex. This match will be continued until both participates kings are defeated. So, Game starts-"
Meredith raised her head, her eyes glinting through the darkness. "Theseus." She called out to him through a magic circle that had appeared beside her, another one appearing next to the blonde male who didn't show a verbal response. "You know what to do."
Theseus eyes glowed in green and his mouth opened, showing his sharpened teeth when he performed a dark snarl. "With pleasure." he spoke in a deep dark tone, making everyone's eyes glint in darkness. Their plan had been set in advance, so all they had to do was wait for the maid to start the game or as they call it, a bloodbath.
"- now."
Fake London - Riser's office
"How has our offensive been so far?"
Commanding his Queen to give him a report of the initial engagement from within the buckingham palace's throne room, Riser sat atop the throne that was MEANT to be used by the UK Faction's monarch, the blonde Devil felt particularly good right about now. It hadn't been long since the whole initial preparation period for the contestants had ended, and things were going along swiftly for the most part. Most of their imminent surroundings had surveillance and trap spells put in place to at least provide some level of security so that sneak attacks on their base wouldn't be possible. That just left the enemy, whose apparently got competent scouts because any initial attempts to scour their base's defences were met with failure.
Fortunately none of his peerage members had been disqualified from the game just yet due to them following his orders to keep to their side of the field.
Speaking of the field, if one were to look at the map through a bird's eye view, they would see that the map covered only a specific section of London: from the west was Buckingham Palace which he had been allowed to claim as his home base, from the north lay a piece of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth memorials, to the east lay the Westminister palace Hellsing currently occupied, and to the south lay the embassy for the korean republic (south korea). There looked to be plenty of landmark facilities, streets and districts one could use in a Rating Game as either lookout posts or places to corner the enemy in deadly traps.
Overall, a rather interesting map in the Phenex Devil's opinion.
Certainly more interesting than just playing within that boring school his fiance attended.
Once the initial prep period had concluded itself, Riser had immediately ordered a couple of his Pawns (Ni and Li, alongside Mira) to launch a simple recon mission towards the area's centre which took the form of St James' centre of the board was usually the most advantageous position to hold, and he expected that human bitch to know this too, so he wanted to scope out the possible defences that would be placed there.
As for the rest of his peerage, everyone stood in the room alongside him, lining up either side of the crimson carpet. The sight of it caused the man to grin smugly, leaning his head against the back of his hand as Yubelluna stepped in front of the steps leading up to his throne (yeah, THAT had a good ring to it) before kneeling in front of him. "Lord Phenex…" she began to speak, her voice full of maturity and a seductiveness only an adult woman could conceive. "Reports came a few minutes ago from Mira. They arrived at the designated area, but found no obstacles barring their path. There was no sign of Hellsing's members, no traps, not even a trace of magic tampering. It is a completely bare capture zone ripe for the picking."
Hoh? Had he overestimated that bitch Meredith's foresight? This was some splendid news indeed! Riser's grin spread further across his lips as he contemplated this newest piece of intel. It would appear that Hellsing was either foolish or they were playing a defensive battle knowing the numerical difference between them and the superior Riser Phenex Peerage. They were probably too scared to come face to face with them on the glorious battlefield, which suited him just fine. He'd set up shop on the centre of the battlefield then he can press forward to go for the enemy's throat, perhaps he wouldn't even need to make any kind of moves himself.
Off to the side of his throne stood Ravel, who unlike her brother fidgeted nervously as she tried to decipher this piece of news from a different perspective. Every instinct in her was screaming that there was something bigger at play here, just from what she had researched about the woman who currently led the Hellsing forces, Raven didn't believe Meredith had no intelligence neither did she see her as some kind of fool. There had to be some kind of play going on for not taking the offensive when it was best advised: during the initial engagement period. But what that could be eluded her, and that didn't sit well with the young girl. The more she thought of it the more certain she became that something was up.
Yet she couldn't tell her brother what she was thinking, for just with one look alone she had seen that he was too far absorbed within his self-pride to listen to reason. She would have liked it if she herself could have gone and viewed things from afar, so she could see whatever happened to the chessboard centrepiece for this Rating Game. However Riser had forbidden her from going out just yet until the middle of the Rating Game, so she could only stay here and stewer in her own uselessness…
Hopefully everything she had done prior would work out.
"Alright, i've decided!" Riser declared as he stood from his throne and threw a hand forwards. "Burent, Marion, Shuriya, Mihae! Rendezvous with your comrades at St James park, the rest of you will form an attack force North east around number 10 Downing Street! Once we've established a base in the chessboard's centre, we shall commence a pincer assault on Hellsing's home base at Westminister Palace!" he bellowed, prompting several claps and cheers of joy from his peerage members before they all set off to perform their tasks.
Ravel meanwhile began to sweat nervously, her instincts getting more proactive in telling her something was wrong.
Fake London - St James Park
Silence dominated the atmosphere, a thick and heavy silence that a bunch of Riser's peerage members had made ample use of. They had all regrouped with one another on top of the Guards Museum which had been close to St James Park where the massive lake was, as this building offered them a vantage point to scour their surroundings while they started setting up defensive spells in the area.
Right now, Mihae stood atop the museum's roof whilst chanting the necessary incantations for the spells to be put into position, since her specialty as a Bishop lay in the magic arts. Whereas surrounding her atop various corners of the rooftop were her pawn defence team, each of them looking around and using their senses to pick up any signs of magic or aggression. However, so far none of them had seen anything yet…
Which resulted in many of them growing bored.
"Seriously? I thought those guys were supposed to be super scary or something,..." one of them, Ni, a girl with red eyes and blue hear while wearing a schoolgirl outfit, bemoaned. She sat perched like a cat would, observing the streets below and afar but had quickly started complaining due to the lack of action so far.
Her twin, Li, a girl who wore the same outfit but with blue eyes and red hair, moaned out her agreement with her apparently twin sister. "No kidding, all I've seen is nothing. You think their reputation's bogus?" she questioned to herself, not really expecting an answer from anyone.
However, the two got an answer anyways from the Peerage's one of two maid-like women: Marion. "Cease your whining and stick to Riser sama's orders!" she bellowed with a narrow set of eyes. Unlike the two catgirls, she stood diligently on top of the rooftop to Mihae's left flank, her fellow maid Burent standing next to her while Shuriya stood in front of said Bishop. Compared to the twins none of the trio looked like they were willing to deal with any bullshit today. "Just do your jobs and nobody will have to go without any attention when we earn our lord his victory against these riffraff."
"Kaaaaaay!"
Ignoring the minor commotion going on, Shuriya looked around the city with a frown on her lips. "So, this is London, huh…" she mumbled barely above a whisper. She scowled moments later. "What a horrid place, my homeland has much more beauty and care for nature… huh?" before she could spiral further down into a rabbit hole of a rant about how dirty London looked, something quickly caught the woman's attention. "What is…?"
That something soon got everyone's attention, it being the surrounding areas starting to get a little… misty for lack of a better term. "Fog?" Mihae wondered, having just finished her incantations for the defensive spells around the area. Mihae took the form of a traditional-looking japanese brunette woman, wearing traditional japanese clothing. She tilted her head in confusion at the sudden change that she was witnessing alongside the rest of the group. "I DID hear that Britain suffered from… unique weather. Apparently that was what stopped it from having any revolutions during the 1840's…" she remarked, recalling how a march had been planned by people wanting to deliver a petition to the UK parliament at the time but stopped at the last minute because it had been raining.
"This… doesn't look like ordinary fog though…" Burent muttered with a suspicious scowl, watching as the fog grew increasingly thick and spread across both the space between them and the Hellsing base, as well as the entire southwestern to the western section of the Rating Game map. It spread pretty quickly too, and while she may not be an expert in weather phenomenon but this sight had begun raising multiple red flags in her mind. "Mihae, can you increase the number of spells on this place?" she then questioned as a growing pit of unease started spreading within her stomach.
DRIP!
In the ballroom
The observing devils each became very confused when they saw through the screen how the streets of london were suddenly covered in fog, making it very hard for them to see what was actually happening. None of them could see how much was being covered, so they assumed that it was just going over everything.
At the table, Zeoticus furrowed his brows in confusion. "Fog?" He whispered slowly in confusion. "How did the streets of london get covered in fog all of a sudden? That makes no sense." He puts his hand on his chin and tried to figure out this mystery. "As far as I'm aware, there shouldn't be any weather in the rating game." Weather wasn't really simulated in a Rating Game, it was part of a set of rules that dictated how such things were run. So seeing such phenomenon appearing out of nowhere caused multiple alarm bells to ring inside his mind.
Beside him, his wife frowned as she tried coming up with an answer which unbeknownst to her at the time aligned with that of her husband. "Maybe its because one of Hellsing members has cast a fog spell. Either that or….." she trailed off as a certain possibility entered her mind, one which if true would cause no small amount of headaches at the political implications. But she couldn't say she would have been surprised if that had happened.
"He could be one of the storm god's demigod children." Zeoticus finished his wifes deduction, his features pretty much stating that he thought down the same lines of his wife. Although, judging from what he knew of Susanoo he didn't seem like the type to dally in such matters in lieu of protecting his followers from adversaries. He WAS one of the figureheads for the militant faction within the Shinto pantheon last he recalled, and gods rarely changed their ways. Just look at the greeks, and speaking of the greeks a certainlightning god appeared in his mind when he thought of womanizing manwhores. "He could be one of Zeus children instead, he might have been born despite he and his brothers swearing to never have any children again after the second world war. We both know how Zeus doesn't keep it in his pants."
Several shudders travelled down her spine at the thought of that perverted letch as well as a few times when she'd caught him leering at her despite her husband's presence. She didn't understand why Hera had bothered with sicking with that guy and just divorced him, it wasn't like he would be changing in the future if ever. "He might be, Zeoticus." Venelana thought about it for a while before returning her attention to the screen. "We just have to wait and see until then dear." she grabbed his hand and gripped it firmly. "If he is what people say he is like…. HIM."
Zeoticus also gripped his wife's hand as well before looking sympathetically at the rating game, images of a certain blonde appearing in his mind. Like many Devils, he too was aware of the fact that Alucard had a successor, and he knew that he had been who his wife was referring to. "I pity the poor boy being influenced by the No-life king. For going through all the suffering needed to make him into such a bloodthirsty monster." he sadly stated, dejected at the thought of someone going through such a hell in the first place. As a parent, seeing such things saddened him since it reminded him of what his eldest son went through during the Devil Civil War.
Off to the side, Souji raised an eyebrow at this sudden act before shifting his attention to his vice-commander. He already had an idea on what was going on due to having talked with Hijikata about the teammates he worked with. "Is there a reason why that boy covered the whole capital city of London Vice-commander?" he asked his former superior, wondering what the end game was. One idea he had in his mind was to conceal something from view but what? And to use a trick which didn't seem to rely on magic either…
Hijikata just stared at the screen, his gaze not leaving it as he gave his response. "Normally this wouldn't be the case with the fish boy, since he prefers to skewer them alive. I can only suspect that Meredith has somehow managed to convince him otherwise." He turned his attention to his former subordinate. "Have you ever heard of 'Always expect the unexpected'?"
"What does that mean, vice commander?"
Hijikata formed a fanged grin, reminiscent from his Samurai days. "Heh…..you'll see."
"...Huh?" Marion blinked several times when she felt something land atop her forehead, raising her hand to wip it across said area before lowering it so she could identify the source. It turned out to be a strange clear liquid, probably water, which only served to heighten her curiosity.
DRIP-DRIP-DRIP!
Soon enough more droplets of water began to cascade down from some dark-looking clouds that had begun forming atop their heads from seemingly out of nowhere. The sight of them now REALLY started to unnerve the group, this was NOT natural weather none of them could believe that from what they've been seeing. The more seconds that passed, the greater and colder the dread inside of their guts grew. Abrupt weather changes like this could only be possible with…
"Mihae!" Shuriya shouted, getting said Bishop's attention who made a light squeak before shifting her head towards her direction. "Is there any magic causing this?" she bellowed.
"N-No!" the Bishop frantically shook her head in response, her voice shaky as she struggled to regain her composure. "Th-There's not a shred of Magic in the air!"
Burent narrowed her eyes and huffed. "Sounds like this could be a Sacred Gear's work then…" she mumbled, finding that possibility to be more plausible. What kind of Sacred Gear could do this was a different matter altogether, but none of them had time to focus on that right now especially when they could see the fog condensing around them like it were trying to cut them off from their way of retreat. "That's the only explanation I can think of for…"
"Huh? Hey Ni, look!"
"Eh? What is it, Li?"
Once more the situation took a different turn for the group, for whilst they watched the area with rapt attention and more than a little caution, the catgirl twins noticed something within the smoke or to be more specific the area to the left down the road leading to number 10 Downing Street. What it was exactly they couldn't tell due to the fog's density obstructing their vision, but from the looks of things the entire group considered it to be a pair of figures leisurely strolling down the road unbothered by the fog.
Mihae narrowed her eyes at the sight, the possibility of this being the cause for the strange weather being present in her mind although she couldn't be one hundred percent sure. This also reeked of some kind of trap planned by Hellsing, she didn't get why she thought that so deeply but Mihae had survived enough engagements to trust when her instincts were telling her something was deeply wrong. Ravel may have had a point in doubting whether Hellsing was as foolish as Riser considered them to be in this case.
Turning her head, Mihae opened her mouth to warn her comrades. "Guys, stay within the building! This has got to be-!"
"Nya, lets get him, Li!"
"Cut them up, cut them up!"
…However, it appeared she had been too late for the majority of the group, led primarily by the catgirl twins, had already darted off the rooftop towards the silhouettes intending on getting some additional points for their side.
'Goddamnit! Those fools! They're always like this, thinking that they could survive enemy contact no matter what comes their way like some giant narcissists!'
Only Mihae remained atop the rooftop, the said woman gritting her teeth as she cried out the following demands. "All of you! Get back quickly! This is likely a tra-"
"?!"
That's when something happened, something which caused every fibre of her being to grind to a halt, every spec of her skin losing all color in favor of turning paler than a ghost. Her blood turned cold, and any mobility got drained out of her like she had been the victim of a vampire attack. Being teh victim of such a thing in london felt kind of ironic considering the usual matters Hellsing oversaw, but she didn't ponder that.
From her vantage point Mihae could see what the rest of her team saw, and that had been the figures abruptly vanishing into nothingness like mere mirages in the middle of a desert. This sight had caused each of the girls to freeze in place, having landed on the road itself just before entering the fog. Now having sensed something having gone wrong, each of them shared a brief glance of confusion with one another before getting into cautious, defensive stances in preperation for any ambushes…
An ambush that NOTHING could have prepared them for.
Within the fog's depths, a pair of eyes shot open…a pair of hollow green ones that bore an intense bloodlust so great that it bordered on madness, sheer insanity and deranged psychotic intent BURNING within it's irisless and pupiless gaze. The pair of eyes bore down upon the group, leering at them with enough bloodlust to frighten even the most top dog of predators. Each of the girls froze at the sight of it just like their overseeing Bishop, sweat pouring down their brows from the anxiety and fear coursing through their stomachs.
But if they thought that those eyes would be the least of their problems, they would have been sorely mistaken because things were about to get worse… a lot worse. Case in point, seconds following the opening of that pair of eyes, more sets started opening within the fog… more, and more, and more, AND MORE…
Before long, one couldn't even see a SMIDGE of fog without a pair of green eyes peering out to the surrounding areas… sea green eyes to be more specific.
"...eep."
A little squeak popped out of Marion's mouth, and as if that were some kind of signal… a bunch of water sharks burst out from the fog in a furious frenzy, a massive mass of fangs and fins creating a slithering mess that advanced forth towards the now petrified group with high speeds. They came from both the front and the sides, streaking forth like a roaring tidlewave releasing no small amount of howls, roars and snarls reminiscent of their master.
"What the?!
"Oh my Satan!"
"AAAHHHH!"
"OH DEAR LORD!
"Mommy!"
"Quick! Cover your eyes!"
"Don't look!"
All of the devils become scared and terrified as they bore witness of such brutality it almost rivals to a pectuliar vampire that loves to leave a mess wherever he goes. Seeing the peerage members being teared apart while being alive frightened the devils doen to their very cores. A few of the devils fainted or a couldn't take it.
Thanks to the fog the camera that showed the Rating Game had to move to another angle, resulting in them seeing what could only be described… as a damn bloodbath. The shocked and panicked group had made to quickly retreat back to the Guards Museum rooftop where their spells would have worked to protect them. However, it hadn't taken long for the sheer NUMBERS of these Water sharks to overwhelm such defences and shatter them, resulting in them pouncing on the nigh helpless Mihae…
Barely raising her hands in time, Mihae created a circular barrier around herself and pumped it with a lot of magic, barely holding it together even then. Though her efforts only served to irk the sharks further as they constantly slammed against the barrier like a battering ram against a wooden door.
"AAAAAAHHHHHH!"
"No please no!"
"Satan help us!"
"Anyone! Please anyone! Save us!
The screams from Risers peerage was enough to make the devils become dizzy and quickly left somewhere to vomit their stomach contents out while the adults covered their young childrens from witnessing such sights though the screams will haunt the young devils for a long time. Thanks to being Devils of the Phenex house they could use their magic to heal themselves in a similar way to the main Phexex family members, but it wasn't anywhere NEAR as effective plus it had the same weakness as theirs did.
In his office, Sirzechs became pale as he bore witness the brutality and carnage that Hellsing was inflicting, and to think that this was just but one of their members inflicting pain upon Riser's peerage.
Beside him, Jin didn't look all that affected by the bloodbath because he already know what was coming. Though it didn't stop his hands from shaking because this scene reminded him of his memories of a familiar vampire king he tried so hard to repress. "I did tell you, either that or someone else must have told you to not ever get involve with that organization's duties, but did any of you devils ever listen? Because there is an old saying. You mess or try to eliminate one of the royal protectors of UK faction." He stopped for a moment before his left eye shone with intent while saying the following. "Hell's wrath shall be least thing for you to worry about."
