Justin Finch Fletchley was on the verge of becoming a first time father.
Indeed, his son was due in a fortnight.
When it came to what name he would give his son Justin became very reflective.
It had been a little over three years since the Battle of Hogwarts had ended with the true defeat and death of Lord Voldemort.
But it wasn't the end of Voldemort's second reign that was on Justin's mind, but the beginning.
For when Voldemort had first rerisen, Justin had lost a housemate.
Not a Bestie or BFF. Justin didn't really have those. His best friends were Ernie MacMillan and Hannah Abbott, but they were much closer to each other than they were to Justin. Justin was a bit of a third wheel in that friendship even though Ernie and Hannah were genuinely good friends to him.
The housemate Justin had lost had been two years above him at Hogwarts and he and Justin had never been close at all.
But, as Dumbledore said, "His death has affected you all whether you knew him well or not."
He was Cedric Diggory.
Justin could still vividly remember how sick he felt when Harry Poter had come back into the maze clutching Cedric's dead body, and he wouldn't soon forget seeing and hearing a sobbing Amos Diggory yelling "THAT'S MY SON! THAT'S MY BOY!"
Justin was proud to know that Cedric had been a Hufflepuff. The story of how Cedric had wanted to a replay of the Gryffindor-Hufflepuff Quidditch in his third and Cedric's fifth year because he realized that Harry had been affected by the Dementor's really stuck with Justin.
That was Cedric.
Cedric Diggory, was, as Dumbledore rightfully outlined, "Exceptionally hard working, infinitely fair minded, and most importantly, a fierce fierce friend. "
Cedric, gone as he was at the way too young age of seventeen, would obviously never have any children of his own.
But his legacy deserved to be carried on.
That thought popped into Justin's mind as he sat alone in the bathtub, contemplating how he would name his son.
Ultimately, Justin reached the decision that, "In the loving memory of the late Cedric Diggory and in the fond hopes that my own son will grow up to exemplify the core values that define Hufflepuff, I shall name my son Cedric Finch Fletchley.
It is my dearest desire as a father to see my son grow to embody the qualities of friendship, loyalty, fairness, and honesty. Those are the traits that distinguish Hufflepuff house, and few people ever lived up to that better than Cedric Diggory.
When his son got old enough, Justin would sit Cedric down and explain to him exactly who he was named after and why it was so significant.
Hufflepuffs were a family through and through.
About six years ago, one of their own had been ripped away from then in sudden and shocking fashion.
Now, Justin was in a position to be to honor him, and he was going to use that position to make sure Cedric's name carried on into the next generation.
Sometimes, you just know that a decision is the right decision to make.
For Justin, this was one of those times.
He would be naming his son Cedric in honor of Cedric.
