Chapter 226 Disposition Of Destiny
In the dark alley, Evan observed the vampire girl.
It was evident that she had no intentions of biting or sucking his blood. She had also achieved her goal, and there was no reason for her to stay there.
A considerable amount of time passed, and the persistent stalemate was proving highly unfavorable to him.
Nonetheless, she didn't move or release Evan. She gazed at him with her eyes wide open, looking dazed.
"What else do you want to do?" Evan asked abruptly, realizing he had gotten himself into a predicament. Dealing with this vampire girl was truly challenging. She seemed to have more to say.
"Nothing, after eating this candy, I'm even hungrier!" She picked another bloody lollipop, examined it for a moment, popped it into her mouth, and vaguely commented, "It tastes somewhat alike, but there doesn't seem to be real blood inside."
Naturally, there was no real blood in the bloody lollipop. It was just flavored.
If Honeydukes' sweet shop dared to use blood to make candies, it would have been shut down long ago.
Evan recoiled as he realized the girl couldn't help but glance at his neck again, as if feeling a strong attraction towards him.
It seemed like she might lunge at him at any moment.
"Are you scared?" the girl teased, her lips slightly curved.
"I'm not scared, I'm just wondering how you plan to let me go..." Evan spoke haltingly, trying to gather magic, but it wouldn't work.
The strange magical fluctuations emitted by the red iron chain on his body prevented him from using any magic.
Because their power source differs, vampire magic is vastly different from regular magic wielded by wizards. Without understanding the principles of that magic, breaking it is difficult.
"You have courage. My uncle said ordinary people like you have a natural fear of us, fear of contacting us, fear of our strength," the girl's cold hand touched Evan's neck's skin as she slowly said, "if you aren't afraid, let me take a bite. I haven't eaten anything since this morning."
After uttering those words, the girl didn't ask for Evan's consent; she simply bowed her head and approached him like a cute kitten.
Evan could see two sharp fangs in her slightly open mouth. They weren't very prominent; they were like a normal girl's fangs, but a bit more protruding.
"Wait! Don't bite..." Evan hurriedly shouted. He watched as the girl came closer and didn't know what to do.
He struggled to retreat, and the chain on his body made a constant noise.
Deep down, he would rather face a cunning Death Eater or a ghastly Inferius than deal with such heartless and irrational vampire girl.
She was stronger than him, and there was no way to communicate.
Evan hadn't felt this at Hogwarts before. Now, upon reflection, the magical world is brimming with dangers everywhere.
Who would have thought you'd randomly encounter a vampire in Diagon Alley, the busiest street in the magical world?
It was an unexpected calamity, an unforeseen danger.
Fortunately, this girl seemed a bit confused. If it had been another vampire, Evan's blood would have been drained long ago, and he'd be a mummy by now.
"My blood tastes bad. If you're hungry, I can guide you to find blood from other animals. What flavor do you like?" Evan hastily spoke.
It was only after he finished that he realized the peculiarity of the topic. He was discussing blood flavors with her, as if inviting her to dinner.
"Besides dragon blood, I usually don't consume blood from other lower organisms. I was just exploring. Clearly, you're scared, but you said you weren't afraid!" The girl swallowed again and forced herself not to look at Evan's neck. "My uncle was right, wizards are very cunning and never tell the truth."
Evan was speechless. In fact, he couldn't discern whether the girl was actually telling the truth.
As he looked at her, it was clear she was starving and on the verge of collapsing. He couldn't help but feel the temptation to suck blood, but she refused to be honest.
Fortunately, she couldn't express it. If she were sincere enough, it would be a true misfortune for Evan.
The atmosphere was becoming warmer and less uncomfortable, and the girl was becoming more talkative.
"Don't worry, I'll let you go." She snuggled up and sat next to Evan, with her peculiar hoarse voice, she said sorrowfully, "I'm waiting for that man, and then I'll leave. I'll use 'Obliviate' to make you forget what happened tonight."
Damn it, Obliviate again!
From Evan's perspective, although this spell was not dark magic, it was more sinister than most dark magic.
He didn't want to be a fool who knew nothing and ended up in the hospital like Lockhart.
"Who are you waiting for?" he asked hastily, perhaps this was an opportunity.
Listening to the girl's tone, the person she was waiting for shouldn't be a vampire. If he was a sound-minded wizard, he still had a chance.
"I don't know, in the prophecy passed down in the family, we were only told that we would meet that person. He will help us and get the family out of the crisis," the girl shook her head. "I don't know where he is. My uncle has already gone to look for him. I also wanted to help, so I left the family when no one was around. This street is where wizards are most common. If it's fate's will, I believe I will find him here..."
Evan blinked, and the girl was now speaking with the exact same tone as Professor Trelawney and the Centaurs. It was an incredibly illusory prophecy.
He didn't know why so many magical creatures believed in these kinds of things?!
The results of prophecies are not absolute. This magical power out of nowhere can only make people see some fragments vaguely. Everyone has different interpretations of these fragments and adopts different strategies to deal with them. The final results can be quite different.
The most obvious example is the prophecy about Voldemort and Harry.
If Voldemort hadn't heard the prophecy and hadn't taken the initiative to choose Harry as his opponent, the following sequence of events wouldn't have occurred.
Evan didn't believe much in such things.
So far, including the one the girl had just mentioned, he knew of three real prophecies.
But compared to the first two prophecies he knew, this girl was too casual.
She talked a lot about the man she was looking for, but upon further thought, she knew nothing about him. Simply because she felt she might encounter the one mentioned in the prophecy, she fled from home to Diagon Alley, where all the wizards were, and said it was fate...
